Oh yea @Chaharly,, just a quick reminder,,, in a camping need emergency = try to remember Puc's - watch me pull the perfect camp ground out of nowhere routine. Sometimes ya just gotta do what Cha (pun intended) gotta do brother:
-
Thats only cause your forgetting to switch the tape measure in your lop eared young man varmint's brain over to geezer measurement Cha - 1' = 50' in geezerdom .. That said, here are a couple vids of geezer camping in NON Grizz country.. Notice the difference in distance between these and the one of the three of us camping in Grizzland above? and basically,, YES,, that is what we are saying = when it comes to CTFW, that grain of salt routine is the way to go IMHO:biker::biker:!!

Probably a CommieFornia thing Jack. Around here in the AR15 land of Michigan, eth free gas is plentiful and common. It is a dollar more a gallon (right now our gas prices are hovering at 2.80 and eth free at the local is 3.90). I use to actually add alcohol in fuel for high compression motors, doing so made a HUGE difference in decreasing pre detination = worked AWESOME IMHO, sort of a positive side of eth I reckon = thinking from that adding eth may actually increase octane. I have also noticed a decrease in combustion chamber carbonization since the onslaught of the Fed mandate for eth usage.. I do know that the ill effects of the stuff on carb components is real but have found that as long as I keep em running and not let em sit for extended lengths of time that it helps in controlling rust from water gathering in the fuel and carbs gunking up. About the only time I now buy non-eth is at the end of the season for storage purposes but even then, start my bikes at least once month and let em warm to operating temp = wick em up to "lube" the main jets (and intice some adrenaline too) and let em know I love em..

Trunk removal
cowpuc replied to Spicermech's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I have installed numerous quick detach docking setups on the HD's thru the years and think I would look into building an adapter to mount and use one of them on the SVTC if I had one. Maybe we should tear Don's bike apart at MD to see if that would be possible.. If so @Freebird, we could go into the business of making adapters and get rich quick off SVTC owners wanting an instant bagger Hey Spicer,, maybe get a peek at an Eluder shop manual and compare it to the SVTC shop manual to see how they each come apart and see if they mounting methods are different.. I got a hunch that Mom Yam used the same frame for both scoots and comparing notes may help in assessing the process.. Sounds fun and doable = all the best in coming up with something and would appreciate any thoughts/pictures of what you come up with! -
Not MC, but fun for the gearheads, Surface Grinder build.
cowpuc replied to Flyinfool's topic in Watering Hole
WOWZY WOW WOW WOW = how cool is that !!!!! I can hear the "zip, zip, zip, zip" sounds of valve shims being ground and that wonderful music of "click, click, click" as the bed indexes brother!! Funny thing that can hear all that without the inticement of surface grinder project PICTURES though ... WOWZY WOW WOW WOW Jeff,, now you can sharpen your own end mills :cool10:!!! So,, did you roll that heavy little sucker down the stairs into the basement or did you leave it out in the shed by the White Washer so I can play with it when I stop to stuff rags in those nozzles? GLAD TO HEAR ALL IS WELL ON THE NEW TUNER BROTHER and congrats on the surface grinder!! -
NICE!!!!!! Can not WAIT to hear the long version of the story,,, perhaps with a pic or two,, or even three (its the code ya know!!). Ride safe and have fun out there!!

I KNEW you would win !!! Congrats brother

Yep,, cheap Russian Steel Case with hard primers.. I am shooting after market trigger group and had a light pound hammer spring in that works great with the softer primers in the Tracers we were firing.. Now I gotta swap in a heavier spring and retest... For the first time in the field, it did GREAT though and even was able to go boom with about 90 % of that Russian junk I love tweekin on these shooters too

I'd stay the course and make a general heading toward Glacier.. CTFW up into Yellow Stone from the south entrance,, thru Jackson Hole,,, watching the mountain weather as I traveled.. If it looks cold and snowy,, forget it and skirt around ol Yeller around the west side so your not catching the mountain weather.. If doable, I'd drop a tent inside Yellow Stone and exit the west entrance to avoid longgg lines of slow MTR Homes and head up across Montana toward Browning (east side of Glacier ) but would be taking my time exploring the National Forest out there. TONS of awesome CTFW and AWESOME tent dropping opportunities to play with the Bear, Elk, Deer and the like = C 1st Vid. The Road To The Sun (GORGEOUS) is 50/50 on being open that time of year IMHO. Ya just gotta take toss caution to the wind and accept the fact that it may be blowed shut again BUT that is part of CTFW IMHO.. Either way,, it's always best to have WARM clothes if your gonna play in the mountains,, any of em from my expeirence. If I got froze/rained out while tossing the intersection coin while CTFW (our CTFW MO = no map = no GPS = toss and coin and let it decide left or right turns) I would indeed head to the Canyon and the surrounding National Parks. The North Rim is where I would head,, much better off road instant camping and WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, camping on the rim is FANTASTIC!! Also, Kanab Utah is a fun town and located between Zion NP and the North Rim. Also, the ride around the Canyon up thru Page and then down to the South Rim is GREAT!! If ya get to the South Rim, drop down to Flag and then down 89A to Sodonna and then down a little farther to Jerome AZ = YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID!! By the way, when heading to Page from Kanab Utah, maybe take a second for some Ghost Towning = before you get to Page is a good time to begin that process. We followed a trail back to one once that was an AWESOME ride (C 2nd Vid) = AWESOME overnighter back there too = sleep with the tent down and hug the ground,, you can still hear the wagons rolling in to build the town that is long gone!! Another really often overlooked CTFW adventure would be the Flaming Gorge ride. If I got chased outa Montana cause of foul weather, I would drop down to Buffalo Wyoming, take the cut across over the Big Horns to Ten Sleep (UNBELIEVABLE BEAUTY) and then CTFW down to Green River WY and set a course around the EAST side of the Gorge. Then I would ride the edge. I would also make sure that my ride down th east side of the Gorge was before 1 p.m. as it takes the sun shining into the gorge to make it REALLY flame up in endless beauty. If you ride the west side you cant get as close to the edge of the gorge = still GREAT riding but just not able to see as much of the gorge IMHO. I would follow the gorge down into the Uinta mountain range (the only mountain range in the U.S. that runs East and West as far as I have ridden and FULL of awesome camping and WOWZY wildlife) and then drift west into Utah, hook onto 15 and head south toward Zion but dont miss the NP's along the way.. My gosh Cha,, I just wrote a book,, sorry bout that,, to answer your question = short version = yep, I would head to Glacier and see what happens and KNOW that Tweeks, Tip and I wish you NOTHING but the greatest of adVenture no matter where you decide to CTFW brother!!

Tippy would consider that border line spousal abuse Bossman

,, so you reckon it would be possible for 2 different drivers of Slingshots to be able to chose whether or not to wear a helmet if riding in a State that has a Helmet Law due if they are from different out of States State:doh: Kind of confusing,,,,,,,, so in the end,, one person may be required to wear a helmet if he is from one State and the other person would not be required to if he is from a different out of State location Mornin Bongo
-
While Tip, Tweeks and I were CTFW in California one time, we got in Helmet Law trouble cause Tip's helmet was White in color and looked like a police officers helmet (cost us 500 bucks for that one). Personally I would advise following State Law to the letter the law and er to the more conservative side of it, especially when CTFW in States where you are unsure of whats legal. Therefore, I would default to the old "When In Rome" rule and if it were us riding/driving or being towed in a Slinger in a State that required helmets when riding a scoot you can bet your lop eared varmint last dollar we would be helmeted up,,, and probably not in white helmets either
-
While not one to buy into the "mother nature" routine of science,, I do gotta admit that I am suspicious that, by design, someone had to have planned ahead for future forest fires.. I discovered this years ago while CTFW (on my HD Lowrider) out to Lake Tahoe to visit my Sister who was out fighting the forest fires that frequent our countries west coast. I was amazed to learn that forest fires can actually be beneficial to some plant life whose very existence depends on them.. Amazing what a person can learn if one just stops to smell the roses occasionally while out CTFW,, or in this case,, smell the smoke
-
Thanks brother, glad you find em enjoyable.. I LOVE your pics too Leo = WOWZY WOW WOW WOW that Shasta area is nothing short of AMAZING IMHO and us bikers do nothing but make it all the betterer IMHO!! on ya my friend,,,,,, on ya!! You do "Weed" up there (no ya bunch of lop eared mind in the gutters varmints,, not THAT kind of weed) Leo?? Tip and I LOVE that mountain town... Just BEAUTIFUL!!

Front Brake Causes Gauges To Go Out
cowpuc replied to happypunch's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think if it were mine I would be looking closely at the brake light switch that is activacted by the brake lever itself. I would unplug it, stick an ohm meter on it and check it for continuity thru the switch and also check it to ground as you work the switch. I have had bulbs short out at a broken filment back feeding to ground too but if that were the case, it seems you would be seeing it when using the rear brake too.. Another possibility is if you or a PO swapped on MK2 forks are you are using the electric anti dives that come on that swap? If so, it might be possible your issue has something to do with a short that system.. Also check your battery connections and fuses (known issue) where they lay in the holders if your scoot has the OEM fuse box.. -
No Clutch, now no start also!
cowpuc replied to SundanceKid's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Might try bleeding from the banjo at the master. If that dont work, maybe pull the line from the master, hold your finger over the banjo hole on the master and bleed off your finger there to see if you can get master piston fluid push against your finger (bleed the master) then, once you know the master is properly bled so its pumping against your finger tip, put the line back on and bleed from the banjo.. For the slave, I attach a clear line to the slave bleeder and drape it over the seat so I can see the fluid in it as I bleed. Also, having fluid building into the line keeps air from being drawn back into the slave as the air bubbles flow upwardly in the line.. Once ya get the hang of it its very easy to do.. -
Exalted Ruler gets my vote:

Specially if a cold front comes thru

No Clutch, now no start also!
cowpuc replied to SundanceKid's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I don't know diddle squat about the Royal Stars but :sign yeah that::sign yeah that: Now if we were talkin one of my has been 1st Gens, I would probably start with making sure the scoot is in neutral, flip up the kick stand (got an interlock safety switch there) and hold pressure on the clutch lever so the lever is in the fully engaged position (it has an interlock too) to make sure my scoots safety switches are not what causing the bike to be electrically challenged. Those little switches can be a pain in the neck. I would also suspect air in the hydraulic clutch system as to why the clutch went inoperable. Possibly a loss of fluid from the slave if the master ran dry. It does not take much of an air bubble in the system to produce an unproductive clutch system.. -
If it were mine I would spend the time to play with belt tension to get the alignment I wanted. Just get the tension to where I liked it (I tend to be one who also likes the belt looser rather than tighter = its a cogged belt = should be fine running on the looser end IMHO). I would then creep the adjustment nut on the side where the belt is running against the pulley back until the belt rolled away from the pulley while free spinning the wheel with the rear end off the ground.. Then bring the belt to center as a final adjustment and button it up. I have also done this on my chain drives, including my R1, thru the years instead of trusting the little marks usually found stamped or molded into the swing arms as those are just "guides" (IMHO) to get me into a reasonable location..

please help, what would you do?
cowpuc replied to made2care's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
:sign yeah that: or at a minimum, pull the starter apart and clean the dust off of the armature (I have always had good luck with the OEM 2 brush starters if I keep em clean). I think I would also double check the stater and make sure it has been updated and tests good. Also may as well check the water pump - if its an 83 - to see if it has the updated impellar. Could pull the cam covers, do a valve lash check and prelube the journals for start up too and drop in some new gaskets on top.. Make er ready to roll. GOOD point @Prairiehammer!!!
