Video proof of the clubs 2019 Maintenance Day @Freebirds!!
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
GOOD POINT = Thanks Roller!! In Steve's defense though, it was raining and I had taken him away from the business of MD madness to cover even the ground he did so it was sort of a rush video on our part.. Also, when we finally got home from MD fun, there was a PM from me from Steve with the step by step link that outlined the entire process (including the res you mention here - THANKS FOR CATCHING THAT CHUCK AND REMINDING ANYONE READING THIS OF IT!!) that I linked up on the post of the vid for @VentureFar.. Hopefully Neil either followed that link or returns here to find this to assist in his coolant swap project -

You are welcome Corporal Newkirk and thank you for taking a second at MD and showing our viewers what a little bit of personal determination and imaginengineeration can produce brother = VERY WELL DONE ! Nice to finally hook up brother!! -
But in the spirit of Maintenance Days now past and in a whole hearted effort to keep this thread alive and give the OP here a little more time to respond, :Im not listening toabout the "Gen 3 Venture" that Mom Yam forgot to drop the V-Max motor in could be entertaining ... Short version of this... While viewing @Freebirds GORGEOUS new scoot and figuring out that, indeed,, the upper section of those amazing lower fairing intake grills are absolutely nonfunctional. A while back this was discussed with someone claiming that this was not so and that the complete louvered area on those lowers were functional for passing air thru to the rider and engine. I/we debunct this thought and discovered that only the very bottom louvers(bottom 2 or 3 as I recall) are actually functional = the large area of louvers are indeed fake. While discussing this with the owner of bike ( hi Don) and discussing the other methods of getting air movement into the cockpit besides utilizing the foot coolers (the actually functional louvered window at the bottom of the fake louvers) that our Bossman had mounted on his steed (side air deflectors mounted on the lowers - I believe Don mentioned those were a factory "option" = looked great IMHO) , the point was made that his new Gen 3 had the appearance (when looking at it head on) of a planned V-Maxed Gen 3 Venture!! If you look closely and consider the area/size of those lower "air scoops" and the evilness that the headlight assembly displays = it really looks like Mom Yam was actually thinking 1700cc V-Max motor with its FI intake needs being fed by jet fighter style air intakes :cool10: = its a BEAUTIFUL thing!! Then it was like something happened.. Like someone at Mom Yam Inc. got wind that touring people aren't go fast people and the planned REAL industry changing :guitarist 2: 3rd Gen Venture with the V-Max motor was dropped for a more reasonable (both in RnD cost and final sales outlook predictions) for the more common and normal air cooled V-Twin platform.. The intakes were sealed and their housings were filled with doo-dads and the aft area behind the fairing was designed around the historic HD look/feel platform with some pretty cool astectic lines built in... As we chatted the night away at MD like a bunch of teenagers debating Fords/Chevys and Mopars in the days of our childhoods, one of the more astute VR members (may have even been Mr. Nelson himself) mentioned the fact that perhaps Mom Yam could have saved herself some embarrassment and actually increased the profitability of the 3rd Gen (we also debated whether or not the new bike is actually a "3rd Gen" = SOOO MUCH FUN THOSE MAINTENANCE DAYS ARE ) simply by not having named it a "Venture" at all.. A name such as "Star StratoTourer" was mentioned and a hearty won out from the majority of attenders of that great debate... There ya go OP,, bought cha a little more time

and in this little vid we check out some AWESOME Corporal Newkirk (@RDawson ) folding pegs and wayyy cool armrests!! We all know how important it is for us riders to be able to move our feet into a variety of positions for long distance, high mileage, long hour touring but many times we forget about the same importance for our passengers.. :clap2::thumbsup: on a job well done brother!!! I am not sure but I believe the Corporal may be going into or already producing these as a sideline?? Where does that stand Daws? -
GOOD RIDE = OUTSTANDING CORPORAL NEWKIRK :dancefool::clap2::thumbsup2:!!! It was an honor and pleasure to FINALLY meet you brother!!! Sooo much fun,, so many great memories!!

No matter whether our VR family members are in attendance at a rally or phoning in from thousands of miles away with questions,, us lop eared VR Club member varmints take our memberships and friendships very seriously.. @VentureFar called and asked if I would see if I could find out how to swap out the coolant on his RSV so I had a heading for another adVenture = an adVenture within an adVenture as it were!! Neil, this video and attached link to text description from the clubs tech area (found here: https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?37353-Some-Tips-on-Changing-the-2nd-Gen-Coolant is provided by @M61A1MECH in response to your question brother. We hope that this successfully gets you thru your coolant exchange so you can get back out writing those AWESOME bike and product reviews for Ultimate Motorcycling as shown here (this is Venturefar's latest product review = another AWESOME read IMHO): https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2019/06/11/joe-rocket-alter-ego-2-0-motorcycle-pants-review/ Anyway,, here you go Venturefar,, and anyone curious about what kind of adVenture awaits you if your thinking its time for new coolant: -

IMHO,, something to always consider is the unchangable math behind the torque/hp curve on any internal combustion engine.. That being that at 5250 rpm exactly the torque curve always falls below the horsepower curve and above this RPM, Horse Power is what your building on/for. Also note that above those R's = engine internal balancing becomes more and more a critical issue.. That said, it would be best to consider that the 1996 thru 2001 Royal Stars did NOT have an internal balance shaft like the 83 thru 93 Ventures, 1999 thru 2013 RSV's or the 2005 thru 2009 RSTD's had/have. For understanding and clarification = Here is a parts diagram showing the crankshaft assembly in the 1996 thru 2001 R.S.'s: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50043cccf8700209bc78d813/crankshaft-piston and here is the parts diagram for the others (this is of the Royal Star) WITH the balance shaft shown: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50045f42f8700209bc794d80/crankshaft-piston IMHO, part of the detuning and tuning for "torque" that Mom Yam did on the 96/2001 was in decreasing the carb sizes to 28mm (no need for bigger carbs without the ability to reliably spin the motor up into HP heaven that us balance shaft people enjoy). Also, by its detune design, there is no need for the balance shaft so why carry the extra weight of such, so it was dropped.. Adding V-Max performance parts or any other parts that are designed to function in HP Heaven is not a good plan on the 96/01, IMHO, in the unbalanced 96/01 V-4 as it, IMHO, is not designed for higher revs.. Tossing gearing at the bike to encourage performance thru gear ratios is the better option IMHO, unless, of course,, one doesnt care about engine longevity,, again, IMHO. It does go without saying though that the first thing to do with ANY engine is making sure it is in good tune,, diaphrams are whole and carb syncing is spot on.. Changing air flow and/or pipe design is rarely a plus when considering performance unless you have the internal parts (both top end and lower end) requiring those changes to utilize the performance design/outcome you are looking for (again, IMHO). In the end,, all the parts and pieces have to work together to bring the performance outcome you are looking for.. Some thoughts: Puc

Just got in here,,, I am not sure how many 's I took of our GREAT time at the 2019 VentureRider.org Maintenance Day that the lop eared Mr. Nelson varmint and his lovely wife Eileen hosted in Oberlin Ohio but I will gladly share them @Freebird.. Now the big question is, I do know that I also have a couple short video's being baked on U-Tube as I type,,, would you prefer those to be posted in the official "LOOK what you lop eared varmints missed :rasberry:" pictorial account thread too?? THANK YOU for the AWESOME time Bossman and wife!!! You two Nelsons is awesome hosts and hostesses:big-grin-emoticon: P.S. = them was good beans too

I always just carried a cheapy plug kit and one of those little 5 dollar HF Compressors and had good luck with such Cha. Have had numerous opportunities (both on my own tires and in helping others = see vid/ask @videoarizona as it was almost exactly 1 year ago today that he and I got to play with plugs ).. Personally,, I never got comfortable with CTFW all over America and Canada knowing my existence was depending on a little rubber worm glued into Tweeks tires,, I always opted for the more traditional non punctured tire carcass and swapped on a new 65 dollar Shinko as soon as possible cause I never really enjoyed riding a touring bike down from high speeds to stop with a flat tire that much but thats just me:missingtooth:.

Glad you got er back on er feet brother.. Was there more than you intitially thought was wrong and thats why your headed back to Iowa? MD is good place to swap in a new pump IMHO,, with all those lop eared club member varmints standing around :Im not listening toI'd almost bet that one or two of them yakkers with great 2nd Gen knowledge and intellect would be willing to assist in the swap . Either way though Rodney,, GLAD to read you got er back up and running!!

Sounds like fun,, nothing but best wishes for an AWESOME time on The Dragon from my end brother.. Advice ,, ride your ride and pull to the right a little to let the faster riders slide (kids on dirtbikes with street tires on em ), watch your speed cause The Dragon is monitered pretty well, spend LOTS of time riding figure 8's in a parking lot with all the gear onboard if your gonna switch to a smaller front tire = The Dragon is no place to be learning a "new" feel IMHO, double check your brakes for operational function (check for sticky calipers) and tire air pressures.. A thought on CTFW down there,, I would definitely take the time to ride the full Dragon/Cherahola loop but would also drop down into Kentucky and ride/explore the Red River Gorge.. It is BEAUTIFUL CTFW and is much quieter then the side of Dragon for dropping a tent if your into such adVenture:happy34:.. Ride hard, have fun but be safe! Puc
