IMHO,, something to always consider is the unchangable math behind the torque/hp curve on any internal combustion engine.. That being that at 5250 rpm exactly the torque curve always falls below the horsepower curve and above this RPM, Horse Power is what your building on/for. Also note that above those R's = engine internal balancing becomes more and more a critical issue.. That said, it would be best to consider that the 1996 thru 2001 Royal Stars did NOT have an internal balance shaft like the 83 thru 93 Ventures, 1999 thru 2013 RSV's or the 2005 thru 2009 RSTD's had/have. For understanding and clarification = Here is a parts diagram showing the crankshaft assembly in the 1996 thru 2001 R.S.'s: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50043cccf8700209bc78d813/crankshaft-piston and here is the parts diagram for the others (this is of the Royal Star) WITH the balance shaft shown: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50045f42f8700209bc794d80/crankshaft-piston IMHO, part of the detuning and tuning for "torque" that Mom Yam did on the 96/2001 was in decreasing the carb sizes to 28mm (no need for bigger carbs without the ability to reliably spin the motor up into HP heaven that us balance shaft people enjoy). Also, by its detune design, there is no need for the balance shaft so why carry the extra weight of such, so it was dropped.. Adding V-Max performance parts or any other parts that are designed to function in HP Heaven is not a good plan on the 96/01, IMHO, in the unbalanced 96/01 V-4 as it, IMHO, is not designed for higher revs.. Tossing gearing at the bike to encourage performance thru gear ratios is the better option IMHO, unless, of course,, one doesnt care about engine longevity,, again, IMHO. It does go without saying though that the first thing to do with ANY engine is making sure it is in good tune,, diaphrams are whole and carb syncing is spot on.. Changing air flow and/or pipe design is rarely a plus when considering performance unless you have the internal parts (both top end and lower end) requiring those changes to utilize the performance design/outcome you are looking for (again, IMHO). In the end,, all the parts and pieces have to work together to bring the performance outcome you are looking for.. Some thoughts: Puc

Just got in here,,, I am not sure how many 's I took of our GREAT time at the 2019 VentureRider.org Maintenance Day that the lop eared Mr. Nelson varmint and his lovely wife Eileen hosted in Oberlin Ohio but I will gladly share them @Freebird.. Now the big question is, I do know that I also have a couple short video's being baked on U-Tube as I type,,, would you prefer those to be posted in the official "LOOK what you lop eared varmints missed :rasberry:" pictorial account thread too?? THANK YOU for the AWESOME time Bossman and wife!!! You two Nelsons is awesome hosts and hostesses:big-grin-emoticon: P.S. = them was good beans too

Speaking recurves.. quick pic of Puc's Recurve Training School back when da youngens was youngens... The baseball bats worked pretty good too,, a primitive tool but very effective

I always just carried a cheapy plug kit and one of those little 5 dollar HF Compressors and had good luck with such Cha. Have had numerous opportunities (both on my own tires and in helping others = see vid/ask @videoarizona as it was almost exactly 1 year ago today that he and I got to play with plugs ).. Personally,, I never got comfortable with CTFW all over America and Canada knowing my existence was depending on a little rubber worm glued into Tweeks tires,, I always opted for the more traditional non punctured tire carcass and swapped on a new 65 dollar Shinko as soon as possible cause I never really enjoyed riding a touring bike down from high speeds to stop with a flat tire that much but thats just me:missingtooth:.

Glad you got er back on er feet brother.. Was there more than you intitially thought was wrong and thats why your headed back to Iowa? MD is good place to swap in a new pump IMHO,, with all those lop eared club member varmints standing around :Im not listening toI'd almost bet that one or two of them yakkers with great 2nd Gen knowledge and intellect would be willing to assist in the swap . Either way though Rodney,, GLAD to read you got er back up and running!!

Sounds like fun,, nothing but best wishes for an AWESOME time on The Dragon from my end brother.. Advice ,, ride your ride and pull to the right a little to let the faster riders slide (kids on dirtbikes with street tires on em ), watch your speed cause The Dragon is monitered pretty well, spend LOTS of time riding figure 8's in a parking lot with all the gear onboard if your gonna switch to a smaller front tire = The Dragon is no place to be learning a "new" feel IMHO, double check your brakes for operational function (check for sticky calipers) and tire air pressures.. A thought on CTFW down there,, I would definitely take the time to ride the full Dragon/Cherahola loop but would also drop down into Kentucky and ride/explore the Red River Gorge.. It is BEAUTIFUL CTFW and is much quieter then the side of Dragon for dropping a tent if your into such adVenture:happy34:.. Ride hard, have fun but be safe! Puc

I am with Roller,, I always LOVED shootin instinctive and took great joy in shooting Bear Recurves (could never bring myself to let go of the big money for a Black Widow back in the day) but when killing time came, I grabbed my Compound cause I was always more accurate with it and despised chasing/tracking wounded White Tail any more then I had to.. That Samick is one BEAUTIFUL arrow flinger though there Radar !! CONGRATS:guitarist 2:

IMHO and according to The Code, its the actual CTFW experience and not what bike, or who owns the scoot that matters.. Most lop eared CTFW varmints abide by this but understand the true meaning of The Code as laid out in the vid below and allow for extremes such as touring Manhatten on a moped for acceptance into "I have ridden" claims. Some things that are direct violations of The Code though would be I.E. = sitting on your bike and running it thru the gears on a dyno and then claiming CTFW honors (bad idea), having someone else ride your bike and then claiming their mileage as your own = double bad idea, buying a used bike and claiming the previous owners CTFW experience as your own = triple bad idea - I am sure you, of all lop eared CTFW varmints understand all this 100% Lenny so INDEED,, rent that bike, tour California (Puc Advice = if you get out on "1" and come to "Stewards Point" = follow the bikes yearning to jump on Skaggs Springs Road and CTFW out to Geyserville.. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW will you be GLAD you did!! Here is short video of the last time we visited Skaggs out there in Trooper (even I aint crazy enough to ride one handed and video that puppy while while CTFW).. Thinking about The Code and cameras = dont forget 's to go along with the AWESOME ride report that will back up your filled in State of California claim on the map brother!!

Hey Kisa,, where did you come up with the intake manifold?

Beautiful:173:!!

ever notice how the faster ya ride the dryer ya stay? Stopping for fuel can be a soggy adVenture though but popping up an umbrella at speeds below 25 can help with that though

Also make sure your Master Cylinder fluid level is not to full, there needs to be an air gap between the fluid and the cap.. -
Friend need a Water Pump for 87VR
cowpuc replied to Statussymbol's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
All the necessary rebuild parts are still available as shown here Stat: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50042b09f8700209bc789751/water-pump IMHO, if he is gonna pull it down to replace the pump, he is better served with rebuilding with new parts than dropping in an unknown conditioned old one... -
Dont know anything about "Edge" Randy but if it were mine, I would do a system restore in an attempt to take it back to an earlier date. If that failed, I would write down my passwords, move wanted pictures/documents that you know are clean to an external drive and then do a complete cold reboot restore taking that puppy back to as new,, a complete reinstall if you will = wipe out the bad stuff = all of it.. Sounds to me like you bumped into some kind of virus/bug/worm/scammer that is killing your puter.. Another method that was HIGHLY successful was doing exactly what you have done here by posting on the site. As a result of me doing exactly that, one of the guru's on the site took over my puter once thru some program that allowed him to access my machine from miles and miles away. I sat and watched him work on my computer (WOWZY WOW WOW WOW was that strange!!) and make necessary changes that brought it back up to excellence (THANKS AGAIN MY DEAR FRIEND!).. That was fun and VERY interesting (watching stuff being deleted/changed/corrected right before my eyes without touching the keyboard = WAYYYY COOL!!) - maybe someone with such talent and skill will chime in offer assistance in this way..

Another thing to consider, possibly, Graham is that, IMHO, when a bike tire wears it wears "square" so you are basically no longer riding on the radius of the tire. Your tire patch to the ground is greatly increased as it were. When you put a new tire on (unless you are a Dark Sider) that contact patch instantly becomes very minimal compared to a worn tire. This does result (again, IMHO) in a major change in the "feel" of the bike when riding and can also affect tire road noise with some brands of tires.
