Stop the boat,, STOP THE BOAT!! Carl,, you wanna rephrase this before @Flyinfool see's it?? Actually @Wrecit,, ya gotta be careful when dealing with those lop eared Kanuckian VR varmints = the clubs snow maker responsible for covering you and your new bike (CONGRATS BY THE WAY = HOPE YOU GET IT!!) and your home and your State and all innocent bystanders is Fool and he and his Wisconsin White Washer are located in Wisconsin!! The rest of the banter your hearing coming out of the great North land is pretty factual though..

OUCHY OUCH OUCH OUCH,, THIS IS HORRIBLE!! Brings back some horrible feelings of when a neighbor of mine and a group of other riders from our area were doing their annual ride around Lake Michigan when some wacko in a car decided to go bowling for bikes, crossed the centerline and took out the whole group over in Fon du lac Wisconsin = what a mess!! Hopefully this one is not the same!! Regardless, PRAYERS UP for all involved.. What a tragity

Oh yea,, spent numerous hours on em.. Followed the 111 engine build all the way out to the Daytona launch of the engine then attended the world launch at Sturgis in '13 with great anticipation.. Gorgeous piece of work right from the get go IMHO.. I still think that as far as repops of the Indians go, Polaris did the best,, closely seconded by the Bottle Capper but definitely a piece of art work IMHO.. I love the ride, sound and feel.. Personally, I even actually LOVED the original real leather that Polaris used on the '14's that everyone bad mouthed.. I love how it rapidily faded into coolness but thats just me. I also thought the 111 always pulled well and that Polaris did a good job in setting up the steering geometry and suspention - good rider IMHO. My beef is/was with Polaris. A list of why?: 1. At the launch in Sturgis they announced an increase in MSRP of 4 grand from what we were told at Daytona just a few months before. 2. That same night they also PROMISED to the Victory riders/dealers that their Victory models were gonna stay intact and become their mainstay tour bike. They held that line chat, even promising new Vic bikes/models were coming all the way up to the day they announced the line was closed. This was VERY hard on dealerships (who got the same lead time on the closure as the consumers did) and consumers alike. They were selling brand new Vics at MSRP 1 week before the closure at the International Bike Expo knowing the closing was coming and knowing those new bikes were gonna drop hugely in value overnight. 3. As soon as Polaris bought the Indian name that started the legal process of closing down all part suppliers for the vintage bikes. At that time, the early Indians had a very good after market supply line for bikes going all the way back to the early 1900's bikes. Polaris single handedly all but ruined any form of reasonably ($$ wise) being able to get an old 40's chief back on its feet.. In the real restore world of motorcycling, Polaris is scum. 4. Polaris seperated it self from the Indian name they own in an effort to give the image that Indian Motorcycles are once again alive by producing a fake company called Indian Motorcycles all in an effort to trick buyers into thinking they are riding real Indians instead of Polaris repops. I know,, its all about making money,, after all,, who would pay 30 grand for a Polaris Motorcycle thats made to look like an old Indian.. My problem is the ethics behind all this.. It's not an Indian,, it's a Polaris and the dishonesty behind the dishonesty speaks a lot of the culture one is buying into when dealing with a company such as Polaris leaving one to wonder just how much you can trust them in the future,, all IMHO of course.

Getting This Tool Kit Together
cowpuc replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Gonna be the LONGEST 10 days of your life Cha,,, pace pace pace,,, is it time yet,, pace pace pace,,, ahhhh the life of a true lop eared CTFW varmint,, pace pace pace... STOP STARING AT THE CLOCK,, tick tock tick tock,, pace pace pace Sounds like sooooooo much fun brother,, wish I was able to join ya!! IMHO, I would include in my maintenance department as well as the stuff already mentioned: 1. A package of BLACK (they are stronger) 11" zip ties from HF. 2. A hand impact driver with adapter for the 1/4 drive sockets. 3. A small pack of hex drive bits and screw drive handle to fit em. 4. Wire strippers. 5. Torch/flashlight kit like this = PERFECT for staring campfires, lighting cigars, soldering AND it is an AWESOME LED flashlight all in one: https://www.menards.com/main/tools/torches-soldering-tools/turbo-blue-self-igniting-butane-torch/22225/p-1538548473678-c-8533.htm?tid=-1824177539966927428&&ipos=97 6. Piece of 2x4 cut to size of center stand to rock bike up on so the rear tire can easily be rolled off. 7. Use cheap (6 bucks for 4) ratchet straps to as tie downs for tent/sleeping gear instead of bungies = much more secure AND can be used for LOTS of stuff like balancing tires or even tow straps ect ect.. 8. 3' section of clear fuel line to use for lots of stuff,, including removing vent hose from fuel tank and pressurising tank with mouth to force fuel into carbs if the fuel pump goes south - sounds dorky but will save your butt out in the desert!! Pack it all and may Murph take a short leap off a tall cliff and HIDE when he hears your tools jingling brother!! P.S. = when you windshield gets buggy resist the urge to scrub to remove them,, wet it down with windshield cleaner at gas station or even just water - rub circles with your wet finger tips to loosen the bugs, keep rubbing till ya cant feel their bodies stuck to the plexi any longer, dont use paper - pull out a cheap micro fiber and wipe it off.. These will keep the shield from keeping those tiny little scratches in it.. Works AWESOME on helmet shields too!! WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, wish I could join ya,, YOU are gonna have a BLAST!! Cant WAIT to see the 's, vids and hear the stories!! RIDE SAFE out there Cha!! -
That is an AWESOME read @Du-Rron!!!!!! MADE MY NIGHT!!!:clap2::dancefool::dancefool::thumbsup: My thought immediately after reading that went something like this: "one of the engineers in Mom's Yam's RnD department who was complacent in offing the V-4 that should have went in the 3rd Gen picks up a biker read,, notices the review I just finished here, reads thru it,, hands it to his buddies sitting there drinking coffee in the break room,, they read it,, the room goes deathly silent,, all of a sudden and in unison there is heard this deep, gutteral sound of "OOPPSSSS" heard so loud that a whole row of test bikes fall over in the RnD department THANKS DUEY,, I NEEDED THAT :big-grin-emoticon:

WELCOME to "lop eared VR club member varmint" land W!! Please listen carefully to the official club tune that is played for those members trying to depart after they have figured out exactly what a lop eared varmint is and see if you suddenly don't realise why the rest of us lop eared VR varmints are  knowing who the REAL sucker is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2C8EieZq_c

IMHO, the downfall of the early Yamaha Royal Star Classics is/was the detune. Dropping the balance shaft so they couldn't reliably be spun up to far above the 5250 HP range, changing the cams and dropping to the carbs to 28mm all for torque was a mistake IMHO. Also, IMHO, It was actually a waste of RnD and design (V-4's are far more expensive to design and build) dollars to do so and limits a person who wants to build one to perform up to V-4 capabilities. I have a hunch that the claimed 78ish HP of those early bikes would actually appear as a very putzy meager 60 horse at the rear wheel. Fact is, I have seen numerous early Classics for sale in the $1500 range and probably because of exactly the point I am trying to make. Nice bikes,, sure,, but a decent running V-twin of comparable size will hang right with it and, if it's a HD of the same year the resale will always be greater... All IMHO of course.. If I were still in the game I would DEFINITELY be looking at one of the 05's or later..

PERFECT!! You BETCHA @Chaharly - you are welcome and ANYTIME = pleasure is/was mine brother!!! Now keep those AWESOME pics a rollin in!!!

Sometimes reading the fine print helps when trying to figure where the truth is located:big-grin-emoticon:: """Rich Duprey has no position in any of the stocks mentioned. The Motley Fool owns shares of and recommends Polaris Industries. The Motley Fool has a disclosure policy."""

,, looks like you got your pic posting thingy figured out brother,, GOOD ON YA CHA!! We been seeing the wet weather here to Cha with areas similar to your post of water over roads.. I look at your pics though and cant help but think to myself how may times Tip, Tweeks and I were out CTFW refusing to give it up after "magic hour" (that 1 special hour of time just after the sun drops behind the mountains and the air becomes ohhh sooo sweet,, you know what I am talking bout) and end up CTFW for a few hours in the darkness - I cant imagine coming over a little down hill while doing that in an unknown area just to discover we were in 2 foot of water IMHO, spots like your picture deplicts can be very dangerous for bikers,,, good for the ducks,, bad for bikers Beautiful pics though,, glad you got er figured out cause NOW = no excuses :photographing::photographing: P.S. = LOVE the video too brother!! LOVE the one handed camera handling = SIC EM CHA = PUCS PROUD OF YA!! Word of advice,, at least IMHO,, slow down a little so we can hear your voice and then do a commentary as you ride explaining where your at, what you see/smell/feel and about that GORGEOUS 1st Gen thats carrying you thru thick n thin = your scoot will LOVE you forever!!!! And reach out, turn the camera towards your loped eared varmint mug and like only a real deal genuine bug filled teeth CTFW varmint can do!!! WELL DONE MY FRIEND - WELL DONE!! Puc

Also maybe pull the starter and check the bendix for engagement.. Sometimes they hang up from being dry and will do exactly as you describe.. Couple drops of oil on the shaft the bendix rides on and poof,, all better till it drys out again..

Actually there has never been any real way to know for sure just how much of a bite Polaris's Indian repops or other +900cc models were/are taking out of the Motor Company cause Polaris never releases actual unit sales. The consumers and HD themselfs never found out about the 17,000 units thru the entire life of the Polaris's Victory models until it was all over for those models and Wine let it out exactly how badly they sold. Polaris likes to try and convince the consumers that they are a challenger by saying they are making strides with false claims and not releasing actual units sold, they did the same thing with the Victory but in the end their total sales thru the years didnt even come close to one year of sales just for HD's Sporsters.. I still think that Mom Yams, and Polaris's decision to go after the HD market is simply based on market size.. A tiny piece of a HUGE pie like HD's is still wayyyyyy better than a bigger piece of the small pie that Honda has developed in the "Wing" market.. Simple math IMHO. One thing for sure, all those markets are shrinking as the Baby Boomers time out and the future generations of could be CTFW varmints choose to get their thrills from video games and smart phones,, again,, IMHO..

Does anyone know how to increase top end speed?
cowpuc replied to Petersilva71's topic in Watering Hole
What dahh heck,, seems like we might be going backwards in the laws of physics or something... Like to go faster ya gotta go smaller motors (blows the old saying of no replacement for displacement that as kids we were always taught)... Here's Maggies little 1000cc motor churnin it up = she had another gear left (she is a 6 speed) that I have absolutely no doubt she would happily bounce the rev limiter in too.. Not bad out of 4 little 3 inch pistons burning 87 octane (spec) .. She'll do 103 in first gear (and the new BMW American 1600 is speed limited at 101?) and face plant ya when shifting 4th to 5th if ya aint careful with her throttle:missingtooth: .. Even Crud the V-MAX, with his extra 200cc's felt like he had a rag stuffed in his v-boost compared little Maggie (he'd pull 150 but it took some stretchin to do it)! Good grief I LOVE motorcycles -
Hey Kretz,, gotta ask,,, why couldnt your Brother just have ordered it online and had it shipped directly to your home address?
-
Thanks Cha,, that there is testerone in motion I tell ya!! They were just here for their mom's sisters wedding and when asked what was the most fun over that week of wedding vacation time,, the older grandson's response was "shooting the 308 AR10 and bustin clay pigeons with Grandpa ABSOLUTELY". Cant wait to get back out to California "play" with that pair:thumbsup:!!!! P.S. = that is pic that my daughter took with her phone and text to me to Tippies smart phone. I saved the pic on Tips phone, downloaded to the computer via cord to the USB port and did the resize thing to post here...

Does anyone know how to increase top end speed?
cowpuc replied to Petersilva71's topic in Watering Hole
Dont know how I missed this.. After allll the years and years of debate of which is faster,, 1st or 2nd Gen,,, now I find out that 117 is it on the 2nd Gen and you lop eared 2nd Gen varmints knew it:no-no-no:,,, I can vouch that +130 is definitely NOT out of reach for a MK1 1st Gen and they will run 110/115 for hours and hours like they actually enjoy it,,, eatin up miles like a kid gooblin down skiddles .. No doubt about it,, you lop eared varmints been me/us 1st Genners thru the years cause NOW we KNOW which is faster :checkeredflag: Now we gotta start the debate on the 3rd Gen ... Here's what I think: 1st Gen = ,,, 2nd Gen = ,, 3rd Gen = :big-grin-emoticon: -
My 1st 1st Gen came with headsets and cords.. Will those cords work on this modern stuff? @Woody, can you snap a pic of the plug-in on the upper cord and on where the lower cord plugs into your scoot? I may be able to set you up for free!

Been a long hard month and needed some time of therapy,, sometime to relax a little before heading to my grandson's graduation open house today.. Grabbed the AR10 (308/7.62 Nato), a couple hundred rounds of ammo, kissed Tip bye and headed to the State Land swamp for some RnR.. Didnt bother taking any video but just discovered some proof of that time of relaxin: :duck: them tracers is MIGHTY purdy

and on top of that,, with all us geezers getting geezerly and driving motorhomes/trucks/cars to MD instead of CTFW in,, even Don's yard is getting to look more and more like a Sturgis rally instead of a VR MD too :mytruck::mytruck1::auto::auto: :stirthepot::stickpoke::backinmyday::backinmyday::backinmyday::backinmyday: may as well all be riding Hardlys I reckon

@Slyvester,, you may get a kick out of this thread too! came back twice to correct the spelling in your name Sly and was like,, what on earth am I doing wrong,, thought my brother had abandoned me,, then I noticed the above Sly,,, its not SLYvester,, it's @Sylvester LOL

I am trying to produce a pic tutorial video,, got teichnical difficulties (camera died) and gonna try again,, hold on @Chaharly.. @Freebird,, hopefully it is ok to use YouTube for this? It will mean the VR web page pic munipulation will be exposed for the world to see.. If that is a nokno no please let me know and I will remove the vid...
-
testcu,,, This was the first shot area where my camera died while videoing... I am currently loading a vid of pic manipulation/management to YouTube that may (or may not) be of assistance to those having issues uploading pics to the site. Don I did send an inquiry (PM) as to the club rules/legality of using Utube for the process but hadnt heard from you (I KNOW you are a busy bossman) so I just figured what da heck - worse I can do is have to remove the video and continue on the path of being a club Out Law locked back in the penalty box.. If this happens,, toss Chaharly in there with me cause he is the one who I am trying to help LOL Looks like its gonna be about an hour to finish the upload,, enjoy your freedom Cha!!
