TOTALLY !! If there is any form of a law suit involved most attorney's look for deep pockets and lots of em, knowing that - I highly doubt that the DMV and company he was working for at the time that he killed those bikers will come out unscathed either. Sadly though,, the ones who lost their loved ones and the riders who were slain on that dreadful day are the ones who paid the highest price, especially the children who lost their Dads.. Soooo sad.. Scale it any way ya want but I still think this is all a result of the loss of accepting personal responsibilty - something that has gotten mighty thin in the world today IMHO.

WAYYY COOL ROLLER!! A lot of folks don't know this but I love starring in videos, especially ones that involve eating Ice Cream
-
Now there ya go ya lop eared Ice Cream slayin varmint,,, presenting a challenge that you really do not know whether or not you can win!! I have eaten many many Ice Cream kings under the table so you best be careful Big T. My credentials are known throughout the country including winning a World Championship held at Leatherby's out in Oak Grove California where the challengers were world class varmints. If we are in town during the WNY Rally and there is anything left of me after the Grandkids out west get done working me over (I have a rebuild of a mini-bike out there to perform) Tip and I may very well make the trip and take you up on your challenge ya varmint so you best be careful!!

87 VR, carb problem
cowpuc replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
 IMHO, it almost impossible to completely clear jets with just compressed air and spray carb cleaner cause you really dont know if what your seeing at the end is actual sized correctly jetting. At a minimum a piece of wire trimmed off a wire brush and then carefully scraping the jets wall is prudent IMHO.. I have been using Jet Cleaners for a good while - they are very similar to Torch Tip Cleaners if you are familiar with those? They have a knurled surface on them that allows you to clean at a smaller size and visually see if your removing crud as you work. I would also advise spraying carb cleaner into the low speed jet housing in the carb body and make sure the carb spray is coming out of the tiny delivery hole(s) so you know that the passages thru the body are open. I like to use Propane for testing for vacuum leaks.. Just take a small propane torch, open the valve but dont light it and shoot the gas stream around the intakes with the motor idling.. If she is pulling air - I generally can hear a tone change or idle change. You could be (and probably are) dealing with only one,, maybe two, cylinder's not functioning properly. Start it up from cold using the choke, tempt test each header as it warms up and see if you can find one that is not coming up to temp to isolate the issue. These bikes tend to be fairly cold blooded and dont run well until they warm up normally but, due to Mom Yam's choice of spaconrk plug size ("D" plugs), the plugs will easily blacken and become fouled if the choke is over used = move the choke off as it warms up and your monitoring the header heat. Hesitations/stumbles right off the bottom are not always fuel/air - carb issues.. As a matter of fact, I have encountered exactly what you wrote (see Red above) numerous times thru the years and more times then not - discovered the issue was ignition related. Blackened plugs, carbon tracking on plug caps, the notorious corrosion at the plug cap/wire connection, cap gone to high resistance, corrosion at plug wire/coil pack connection and even corrosion at the pins on the TCI.. Another area to check is the vacuum at the spark advance module and module itself.. IMHO, just because adding fuel to the fuel/air mixture via the enricher circuit causes it to run better does not necessarily mean it is carb related. In that you have already been thru the carbs and know they are up to snuff - I would consider looking elsewhere.. -
Motor Locked up from sitting so long.
cowpuc replied to snyper316's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Grab a cheap bore scope off ebay and take a look around - never know what cha might find.. Couple tablespoons of Marvel Mystery down each intake in an attempt to free up the valves that are rusted closed. Then do the same with each pot and leave the plugs out. After sitting for few days, put a socket on the stator rotor nut with a breaker bar on it and rock the crank back and forth. This doesn't always work though,, I have had em so stuck from sitting that I had to drive the pistons out with a hunk of oak wood and beater. Bottom line, even if you do get her broke free you very well may end up with a rebuild project as corroded cylinders with a ridge built up from rust doesn't always fair well with ring faces... All IMHO of course! Good find Snype!! -

Pace pace pace,,, couldn't sleep,, couldnt eat,,,, just pace pace pace... Way it worked around here was always - "This is rediculous Tip,, we may as well hit the end of the drive way and toss the coin for a heading cause I can't handle the pacing no more ).. Of course, retirement and having grown and gone kids has it's advantages in that department .. GO FOR IT CHA!! CLEAR SKIES, WIND AT YOUR BACK AND HAPPY CTFW BROTHER:thumbsup: -
So sorry to read this Brenda! You and your family have my deepest condolences and prayers as you work thru the grieving process sister. Thank you Snipe for posting this up!!

Anyone interested in those Aquilla 9's for 7.99/50 count that @Sylvester turned us onto, here is a link to them: https://www.ganderoutdoors.com/aguila-pistol-ammunition-1027641G.html#q=9mm&lang=default&start=1! Scroll down when it uploads,, 115 grainers for the price Sly mentioned (THANKS SLY)!! I have bought a LOT of Shotgun shells for my AR12 from this company and had REALLY good luck with em = fast ship right to the front door. I will add though, and I might be wrong in this case, that it appears you do have to purchase over 99 bucks (easy to do) worth to get the free ship - Sly, did you finalize the deal and did your cart bottom line show the free ship activated after purchasing 1000 rounds? Does this sound correct Sly = 99 bucks to get the free ship?

Venture sacrilege
cowpuc replied to Wrecit's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I always though a fixed fairing designed to open like the hood of a car to make easy access to all the goodies hidden under the fairing would be wayyy cool.. Maybe some sort of a slide out fairing or backwards opening car hood type would be a remarkable advantage for putting a whooping on any Gremlins that get trapped under there while out CTFW.. A carbon fiber hand laid, lighter weight fairing in that configuration would not only be a huge plus to the far rider but would also add MPG's plus,, and probably more important,, make the amazing highway dominating 1st Gen even that much more :checkeredflag: -
Heyyyyy,,, look what the kind winds blew in,,, sup Tater?? Things been pretty good around here,, Bossman got himself one of them new 3rd Genners so he thinks his pretty cool but can't keep up with us V-4 riders no more, YamaMama held the Huggin Contest again at MD and Saddlebum won, me and Dogman had a pretty good laugh when Dogman noticed the motor in Carl's spyder was missing, been raining a lot but most of these lop eared varmints got duck blood in em or something cause they just keep on riding although there was an abnormal amount of RV's at Don's MD but I surmised that was more due to age of attenders than being skeered of the rain, got myself 2 baby grandsons now and another on the way = LOTS OF FUN:big-grin-emoticon:,, probably wont see us out east at the NY Rally cause one of those kids is out west... Say HI to all for Tip and I though.. What you been up to? Any inside info on the big news surprize coming for the rally in NY that @Big_Tom keeps about ya wanna leak out,,, or rumors ya wanna start ? Is Mom Yam gonna drop the putzy V-Twin and stick a 1700cc V-4 in that thing like she shoulda done in the first place and Big Tom is gonna announce it:missingtooth:? Is there a new flavor of Ice Cream that Big Tom has discovered ? Good to hear from ya Taters!!! Puc

Clutch not disengaging first start in the morning?
cowpuc replied to luvmy40's topic in General Tech Talk
Sounds like air is gathering at the banjo up on the master 40. Try bleeding from that point 1st thing in the morning after the bike has sat for a while for tiny little air bubbles to gather up there.. Be sure to cover the area so you dont get fluid on the fairing. That is where I would begin if it were mine brother.. -
Heartbreaking to say the least.. Prayers Up for all involved in this tragedy! https://boston.cbslocal.com/video/4110628-7-motorcyclists-killed-in-randolph-nh-crash-identified/ https://boston.cbslocal.com/2019/06/24/randolph-nh-crash-volodoymyr-zhukovskyy-charged/

Hah,, wha,,, there ya go waking me up again,, ears were just ringing this morning and I shoulda known why,,, lop eared door bell pushin varmints .. Problem around here is that summer is to short.. Got grandkid chillin's out in California that keep Tip and I on our toes during the summer months. Plus, WOWZY the western states to get lost in between Michigan and them chillins to get lost in = endless opportunites to be absent in mind, makes for mighty iffy eastern travel possibilities.. Tell you two varmints what, if we happen to be back home in that time frame we will catch a easterly drift and point mayhem in your direction!! Would LOVE to test my Ice Cream eating capabilities against Big Tom's and have another shot at the Hugging King's throne again too !!

Dear lop eared Wiz varmint and wife: The suggestion has been made to give Mrs. Wiz and yourself away as prizes at Freebird's 2020 MD. What a high honor this would be!! The only issue I can foresee with such a significant and honorable undertaking would be if Slyvester ended up being the winner of that drawing. In the way of an FYI/heads up please note that I offered myself as a prize to Slyvester at one time and was willing to hitch hike down south to his home = trusting the varmint to only provide food, shelter and endless ammo to shoot during my 5 year stay with him as the Grand Prize (I was going do the hitch hiking so no shipping fees would apply). I was somewhat alarmed when I read Slyvester's response to my notable and sincere offer - it read something like this: Dear Puc, I have open space in my storm cellar to lodge you for a night and a one way ticket for the row boat with one oar that will be arriving 1 day after you appear in our community. Das One Oar Boat will be transporting you to some 3rd World offshore country. Please bring lots of dramamine, skeeter repellent, sun screen,,, and perhaps some K-Rations for your journey to that far away country as I am sure, by the time you depart from my home on the ship and I wave goodbye to you, you will be somewhat hungry..

Getting This Tool Kit Together
cowpuc replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
For many many thousands and thousands of clear windshield wonderful miles I have used this on my windshield: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Meguiar-s-G12310-PlastX-Clear-Plastic-Cleaner-Polish-10-oz/16550253 Even though the windshield on Tweeksis lost it's factory protectant veneer (her shield has been on 3 of my 6 1st Gens = it's a keep sake covered in earned stickers and I refuse to give it up ) I have been able to keep it crystal clear by using Plastx. I carry a bottle of it onboard along with a couple microfibres to apply the stuff. Simply clean the shield first with a gas stations windshield water/cleaner by soaking the shield and then rubbing it with my fingers until the bugs are all loosened up, then wiping it clean with a micro (NEVER paper of any kind = scratch city!!), then a squirt of Plastx across the shield, fold up a micro and buff in circles while the Plastx remains fluid, buff off and BINGO = no spider webs or scratches. I also used the stuff A LOT in business for taking old quad/three wheeler plastic back to a gorgeous, OEM almost brand new looking shine! Cha, I also have done the fairly common no no of using Rain-X on my windshield for years. You gotta use the spray on RainX though and not the little wipeys if your try it. On my shield that is missing the veneer the RainX wipes would scratch my freshly Plastx finish but the spray on stuff, applied right after the PlastX with a micro fibre worked awesome.. I carried a small spray bottle of the stuff so I wasnt lugging a big Rainx bottle onboard.. Something to try = if you dont like it or it causes ya issues, a follow up Plastx application will remove the RainX pronto.. I too would go back to the short windshield routine - I have a cut down somewhere that I sized perfectly for my ride height.. Problem with that in my case was/is I very seldom rode 1 up when out CTFW and Tip/the kids always needed the xtra shield height. If I were doing the one up thing, I would do exactly that!! Simply take er out and up to speed, get into your favorite long distance ride position, put your hand up above your head so you can feel the slip stream of air, cut the shield down until the slip stream is just above the top of your head = you will now be looking over the top of the shield and have ample shield height to hide behind when the rain/hail/snow/road debris from semi's starts pelting your mug -
,, NO WAY!! I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT THAT SLY!!:dancefool: One of my very favorite past times as a youngster was Frog Hunting.. As a kid I would do exactly what you describe only with my Crosman 760 and flash light.. Took LOTS of Bull Frogs by sliding the light beam in the weeds, couple little beady eyes staring back and WHOOP = instant frog legs!! Tip, Tweeks and I were playing around at night down in the Everglades and I noticed those gator eyes shining back on several occasions and actually mentioned to her of my wondering if anyone ever tried the Bull Frog shining routine on em = THAT is AWESOME Sly!! You eat em? I had my first taste of Gator meat down there on Alligator Alley too.. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW was it DELICIOUS!! If I lived down there in gator country those critters would be destined to become hard to come by cause I could live on that stuff = brother,, THAT is good eatin!! If you have dressed em out for cookin Sly,, how difficult is it to clean em? I am guessing you start on the underbelly as I cant imagine trying to cut thru that upper body hide/skin/armor? WOWZY my friend,, we are in totally unchartered territory for this ol lop eared Northern varmint = WAYY FUN!! Also,, did you have to hit in the eye socket to get into the brain with a 22? Seems like that skull would just ricochet a round? FASINATING!
-
:sign Rock On:,, and to that sweetheart of a 22wmr = !!!! Never owned or even shot a wmr = impressive Sly,, very impressive results!! So are the coyotes down there in the summer clothing (short hair) or still in winter fur? Up here they get kind of mangy looking during the summer but WOWZY are their winter furs are gorgeous!! Good deal brother and best of the best in thinning the herd of those sneaky pests down there!!
-
WOWZY WOW WOW WOW RED,, SHE IS A DANDY:scared::thumbsup:!! CONGRATS!! I particularly LOVE those fender guards and tips = just beautiful!!! THANK YOU for taking the time to figure out the pic posting routine = you made my morning getting to see such a beautiful motorcycle this pouring rain morning!!

WOWZY WOW WOW WOW = AWESOME PICS OF SOME AWESOME CTFW BROTHER!! Thanks for allowing us the privilage of a ride along!! BEAUTIFUL P.S. - how were the bugs? I have done a fair amount of CTFW out in that area myself and always loved the no bugs routine.. With all the wet weather happening, I am curious if the buggy wind shield routine is on the rise out there on the prairie?
