  1. I was guessing that the little triplane and biplane looking symbols had something to do with the Luftwaffa?
  2. For long distance riding, especially into the vast high wind area's of the west, my experience with the Fork Mounted Fairings vs Frame Mounted Fairings vs no shield touring on a Chopper for 2 up touring has been: The frame mounted fairing on my MK1's proved a LOT more stable and easier on the shoulders in cross winds (like well known in Wyoming/Montana/Utah open prairies) hit me/us. Fork mounted bat wings worked ok but were tiring after a long day of battering in constant cross winds from the constant motor muscles seeking to respond and correct where the full fairings would allow for a no feeling of change in the front end feel as the fairing delivered all the "push" directly to the frame of the bike. Long bike "open" riding was by far the most comfortable for one upping it but be it known that there were times that even after a few hours of sleep, my skin was still tingling:big-grin-emoticon: (ohhhh to be young again). Another matter of interest concerning the full fairing scoots in my experience is the comfort for the passenger that the side covers provide in keeping heat off their lower extremeties - especially when those constant and variable cross winds are doing all they can to knock the bike and its riders off the road. Of course,, none of this would apply if we were talking about riding a 350 Honda Motosport cross country,, now that was brutal!! Looks wise,, bar none there is nothing purdier than an old school Amen framed, 18 over California Springered 750 SOHC Chop in all its glory, seconded by a fork mounted fairing bagger and nothing uglier than a fairing mounted scoot,,, IMHO.. :think:Maybe others agree with me and that is why not even the British would take the old tour glides (currently known as Road Glide) when we were shipping HD's off shore a few years back:stickpoke:
  3. Here is a point of interest that is applicable to our gun thread here.. While playing out west earlier this month I had the honor of handling and actually shooting this genuine German Luger from WW2. I was wondering if any of you shooter experts had any idea of what these markings are all about? This little piece of history was in remarkable condition and still functioned flawlessly!! It DEFINITELY is living proof of just a small slice of what the Allies were up against in facing the battle before them in making sure our way of life continued to this very day!!
  4. OUTSTANDING you lop eared white washin, ice in the veins varmint!! SOOO GLAD TO READ THIS Jeff!! THANK YOU for the update my brother:thumbsup:...
  5. , just got in from the farrrr west and now we're thinking of heading back out to grab some Sturgis time.. The rally starts on the 2nd this year... Hey Or,, if ya see a couple of lop eared loafer varmints camped in your campground in a Blue Hyundai PLEASE dont toss lead or call the Law... I promise I ain't wild like I used to be (waking you up at odd hours) and have lost most of my teeth so even my bite is deminished to nothing!! Would LOVE to see you and the gang and will definitely stop and say HOWDY if we head atta way brother!! Either way though,, hope your annual rally is nothing short of amazing as ALWAYS!! :bighug: from Tip,, :bighug: from Tweeks and :bighug: from me to both you and Sharon!! Love you both!!!
  6. So sorry to read this brother,, brought tears to my eyes!! Prayers Up for this fine man's family as they work thru such a great loss. Thank you for sharing this Wayne!
  7. Prayers up bongo!! Love you brother!!!
  8. Had to cut it somewhat short to come home and check on my mom who had a stroke while we were gone (she's in Rehab now but doing pretty good = thoughts and prayers would be appreciated) but over all - another FANTASTIC time of CTFW's!! Having just got home, we pulled Tweeksis out of the garage this morning for a quick "get some local riding in" and hooked up with a group of over 100 bikes passing along the lake shore and Tweeksis got a whole day of lake shore riding in doing what she loves the most = chasing down HD's .. The weather back home here is AWESOME = BEAUTIFUL for local CTFW here!! Hope you all have been out getting it done!! :biker:,, with NONE of this !! Concerning our west coast fun,,,, let's go back to where it all began with: This video shows how easy it is to create a Mini Motor Home out of the most fuel effecient production vehicle in the world - the Hyundai Ioniq. After spending a lifetime of motorcycle touring America and accumulating well over 1 million miles of tent camping doing such and getting knocked off the bike by cancer - Trooper, our 2018 Ioniq seen in this series, came to our rescue and is doing a WONDERFUL job of keeping us out there enjoying the freedom of the open road.. Get out ride (or drive) while you can!! Trooper is AMAZING when it comes to high speed cruising out in the vast endless regions of the Western U.S,, a known no-mans land where a guy and his wife can get run over if they can't maintain +90 mph.. In one of my other cross country trip video's I showed where Trooper's cruise control was functional all the way down to 16 mph (even when he is running soley on electricity while flowing thru the narrow paths of our countries majestic western mountain regions).. Finding out that Troopers cruise also works up into triple digits as shown in this video is also a HUGE plus in my opinion.. THANK YOU Hyundai!! This little hybrid is definitely an amazing little road mate who has long since won a special place in our home and in our hearts!! We love him!! This video doesn't really do this rainbow show justice but is better than nothing.. This is actually just the very tail end of gorgeous complete double rainbow that appeared right after a monster of western storm, the type of storm that actually had both my wife and myself rejoicing that we had a roof over our head (although we have ridden thru worst on our bike) this time - guess we are just getting up there in the years..
  9. Good point Bossman!! I am not in the market any longer so I didn't even bother to look that deep but INDEED,, that would make it a no go for me too!! Zip tie the plastic on and ride the socks off it and covering it with stickers from all the places it took ya then the shine is irrelevant .. I was thinking it was new enough that the 2nd Gear wouldn't be an issue but,,, as Don pointed out,, it's pre 2nd gear rehab makes it a $400 scoot at best IMHO..
  10. See if this helps in showing off those purdy new grips Tuffy..
  11. :scared:WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, those are PURDY:178:!!!
  12. Read em weep ya bunch of lop eared varmints,, read em an weep!! https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?141644-1985-Yamaha-Venture-Royale-1985-Yamaha-Venture-Royale
  13. Cause, like most engines, adding extra fuel when cold makes the other cylinders that may be firing properly run right while warming up. IMHO, these V-4's actually run fairly well on just three pots and supporting those three pots when cold with extra fuel/playing with the fuel/air mixture just a little can make em run a little better allowing them to cover for the misfire. Funny you mention an EGR valve and it causing similar issues.. I have experienced some of the same issues on vehicles with faulty EGR's due to that valve failing and causing em to suck air and causing lean conditions but truthfully Patch, I did not even know these scoots had an Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve (dont recall ever seeing one on one in all these years of playing with em:doh:). I thought the exhaust systems on em were pretty straight forward with no return connection back to the engine = not even sensors as they are not EFI.. My bad,,, I gotta pay better attention in class:happy34:!! Gearhead,,, as Patch suggests, you might wanna put the EGR check on the list too brother!
  14. :sign yeah that: I would also make sure the slide is easily sliding in and out of its tunnel from top to bottom by moving it with my finger = making sure it is not getting hung up along the full length of its travel. It should move/slide effortlessly with only slight pressure from one finger. Also double check the seating of your new diaphram and make sure it is seated properly into the collar on the slide. Make sure when seating the diaphram into the groove on the carb body before you slip the cap over it that it is not sneaking out of the groove and that the little tab on the diaphram is resting in its home on the carb body. Make sure the little O-Ring that surrounds the vacuum passage and seals against the cap is in place. Make sure that you have the spring lined up properly on the tangs on the cover interior face as you slide the cover on and carefully watch the diaphram alignment in the groove while setting in the cover in place.. Make sense (I only ask because sometimes I dont )..
  15. EXCELLENT!! Good on for a job brother!!
  16. :sign yeah that: also remember,, if things went south enough that the jugs have actually collected water in them, the probability of moisture having collected in other unwanted area's is increased substantially IMHO.. Bearing surfaces dont take to kindly to rust formation and any associated pitting from such. It would be a tearful moment to spend hours splitting the cases and pulling the pistons to toss a new cross hatch on the jugs and then put it all back together only to discover a couple thousand miles later (or less) that the cams are jumping up and down in their saddles cause they didnt get the attention they needed at rebuild.. IMHO,, there are lots of other things to think thru if your really gonna rebuild/build a motor out of the bunch Snype.. Personally,, I think you should pull em all down, sort thru the parts and pieces tossing a set of Micrometers at the pieces as you go so you can get the best of the best for your build.. Take the top case in and have it bored 1st over so your starting from fresh bore, drop in a new 2nd Gear thrust assembly so your good to go on the tranny, inspect the crank bearings for water/rust spots, watch the bike swaps for a decent Springer front end of at least 10 over variety and then set up the best of the frames on a platform so the bottom rails are level with the ground when the rear wheel is touching the ground so you can layout the amount of rake you will need to bring the Springer to the trail geometry you are looking for (I always liked as close to zero while staying in positive trail on my +10 over builds) and then proceed to cut the frame/work on frame design. LOTS to do,, LOTS of fun!!
  17. You are mixing your metaphores and murdering the Kings English Bum by swapping "I's" for "E's".. I am sure @Marcarl is still desired at home just like he is here.. I have no idea about the Sireing aspect of this great discussion other than what he wrote as that side of the coin is frankly non of my concern
  18. Not to get us away from the importance of our Ice Cream challenge and another thread here @BIG TOM but I gotta ask this.. Is the Rally still held at the Dealership where I have been told it always has been held at brother? If it is, do you know if they handle/sell Honda's as well as Yammers? If so, could you see if they have one of the new Wings that they might be demoing? I would LOVE to get a spin on one!!! Thanks T,, .. Dont let that go to your head though when it comes to this Ice Cream challenge thingy though
  19. As a little Puc I ended up having to eat my share of soap as a result of using improper choice of words when working on my Mini-Bikes and soon enough learned to use the word "Icky" of just "Ick" on the occasion when I discovered something that didnt fit into my world of gearheadedness Corporal.. That term and the usage followed me thru the years and can even be found in my CTFW experiences when talking about "Ickspressways" and so on.. I know brother,, I am one strange varmint
  20. To all those giving advice in this thread I give a healthy fellow lop eared tire swappin varmint a double dose of !! Coop,, I know it is frustrating as all get out but take a minute or so and watch the first minute and a half of time to gander the following video to see that you are far from alone on what you have discovered about dealership tire swaps.. IMHO, the frustration is probably due to the amount of time it takes to do a tire swap properly. Most shops are ran as establishments "for profit" and the back room guys simply dont have the time to treat a scoot as if they were working on a bike of their own. This isnt meant as an excuse on their behalf but a simple reality check.. Ask the Star of this video (@VideoArizona) about his experience with the same as you have discovered. Hey Vaz,, you ever get back with your tire swapper on what you found when you and I swapped out that rear tire? Be interesting to hear their reply if you did By the way @coop,, you are welcome!! Always happy to share some free advice and video or two
  21. I prefer to live by The Code and not keep receipts around when it comes to motorcycle fun (or buying shooters/ammo/fishing stuff/toys for the grandkids too) as doing so seems to invite auditing by Tip when I do which can result in times of deep darkness visiting Pucland.. I do know that little things can quickly add up to big dollars fairly fast though but it sure is fun when you ride off on the finished product and watch in the rear view as the Lady has that great big on her face after CTFW for 30 days of 16 hours per day of amazing adVenture with no stops for repairs
  22. By the way @Gearhead,, another issue I have ran into with these older bikes is leaky wires, they can cause the same issues you are dealing with too.. A good way to check them IMHO is to pull the bike into a dark area with the side covers off, turn off the lights in the room, drop a rag over the lights, start it up and let it idle and watch the plug wires for leaks. It actually works even better if its really humid out. If you discover your wires are leaking by seeing the light show going on, I STRONGLY advise that you replace with Wire Wires like the wires that come on them OEM. Another similar related issue that I have bumped into dealing with misfire right off the bottom and under a load like you mention is;
  23. ""When it's "good n hot" it almost runs right, but still doesn't quite respond correctly right off idle, you feel this when taking off from a standing stop. Mid range and top end are great.""i is exactly what I have experienced with faulty wires/caps, fouled plugs ect. Patch and that corrusion that Sky mentioned is present and cleaning em up with a 1/4 inch snip is a big part of the solution to correcting the stumble in many cases, especially coming up off idle when the engine is under a load.. It is amazing what doing that and a new set of plugs gapped to 32 thou will do for erradicating a right off idle stumble IMHO. Definitely something that is easy to check.
  24. Ohhhhh,,, I think I finally get it,,,, the Sire has been di-Sired and reduced to swatting skeeters ,,, not a good plan.. Thank you for straightening me out on this brother and to the lovely Marca for doing the same on your end!!
