When I was just a very young driver back in the early 70's a guy near my home town decided to open an exotic auto lot that featured the then new to the market = Pantera mid engine sports cars.. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW were they GORGEOUS and AWESOME machines!! Because of affordability I had to stick with my Mach 1 but would have loved to owned such a magnificant machine. The mid engine weight distribution was nothing short of magical in handling and talk about PURDY (oopss, already said that didnt I).. Even though it took a good while, I too commend GM for taking the plunge = I gotta hunch this is gonna be big!! Thanks Casey for the link!!

:clap2:!!!! ,, might not be a bad idea to pull the seat, remove the fuel sending unit on top of the tank and take a peek at whats laying in the bottom of the tank = be a shame to suck up a bunch of nasty stuff off the bottom of a tank that hasn't been used for a while!!
-
GREAT PLAN THERE SLY-VESTER :clap2:!!! I was starting to smell a little funny here since it hadn't for a good while till today.. Besides,,, maybe the stuff will also enhance floatability so if that raft your sending me off to parts unknown in gets a hole in it I can still make it to those lands unknown where the land is covered with lop eared varmints who will freely clothe and feed me and let me ride their bikes for free while out going from corner to corner with my "need $5 for a hamburger" sign.. Love you too brother!!

,, = actually it all began the day we ordered Trooper brother,, shoulda seen the look on Robb's (Sales Manager at the new car dealership where we purchased Trooper) face when I told him the only way I would hand him the cash was if I could get Trooper undetailed with ALL of his original stickers intact and in place.. He was , ,, about trying to figure out what that was all about until I took Tweeks down to the dealership to show him... Then was = .. Took some doings on his part with the higher ups to get it all approved but he did and thusly,, Trooper's take over of the circle of sticker life began

Pain of selling a bike... The comedy of finding a new one
cowpuc replied to GrahamLFCkeeper's topic in Watering Hole
I know,, it's another flaw in my vastly flawed character but I always found the looking for em, looking at em (even junk), chatting with PO's and shopping for em really really fun,, almost to an addiction on my part... Weird eh.. -
We have belonged to a family oriented motorcycle club named VentureRider.org now for many years. Having met some of the most awesome, friendliest lop eared varmints in the world thru our club, I thought christening Trooper into the club at some of America's most gorgeous (pun intended) touring areas known to man, The Flaming Gorge, would be excellent - so we did! A special thanks to the founder of our club = "Freebird", for his dedication to making the club what is today! I also pay homage to our local Hyundai dealership and the Sales Manager there who provided Trooper with his awesome nameplate. Another special thanks to Robb (Sales Manager) and the other staff at Betten Baker Hyundai for going out of their way to provide such amazing service to their customers in this episode!!

I know the carbs are different on em but not so sure on Valve or Ignition Timing or whether any of the top end parts are different. I also know the MK1's will turn 12's in the quarter, top 130 fairly easily and pulls solid from bottom R's to top R's and the need to stay in R's above 3 grand to make the smaller 1200 perform effeciently/effectively when two up and loaded is a myth (it'll lug at the bottom with the best of any Big Twin and slay em at the top), not sure on the MK2's? I also got a hunch that come tire swappin time (especially at road side or in a dealership parking lot in the desert heat) you will miss the 20 minute wheel off time of the simplisity of the MK1 but will LOVE the advantage of top opening - much bigger bags. Hey Rich,, maybe devise a quick detach for the bags on the MK2? I also got a sneaking hunch you are gonna LOVE the brake updating on the 2 as well as the clutch, the tranny (bye bye 2nd gear ??'s), the water pump, and the frame but maybe not the seat = oh gosh I LOVE the MK1 OEM seat!! I am with ya on the hype of all the bling and add on's and am more of a "give me the simplisity of just two wheels and a motor" lop eared touring varmint myself Rich but definitely see why some folks like the stuff and glad they do = anything to keep our sport alive.. Being relocated to strickly local riding these days and a good mix of demo riding therein,, I am anxiously waiting for the chance to play on the new Wing with it's slimmed down MK1 sporty touring bike look to see if Honda is taking a shot at going back to slimmer days = sort of opposite of what you are having fun playing with. Good thread brother! Looking forward to hearing what other club members have to say about it all! Also, all the very best in your Venture adVenture!! Keep em rolling my friend:biker:

Crappy, clunky, difficult shifting
cowpuc replied to Semi-retired's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Actually VAz, I never had a good clutch in one of my 1st Gen's before Tweeksis, who has a full Barnett clutch in her. The typical MO for my previous scoots (all MK1's) was for the clutch to slip in the top gears when hammering on it and hitting the hp above 5 grand.. I did replace springs and plates in a couple of them but never really had a good one after a very short time.. I always thought the Mom Yam wayy undersized the diameter of the plates PLUS the half plate (buffer) in the bottom of the stack always seemed like a weak link (although VERY functional in its purpose). As far as actual failure though, you are 100% correct,, I never ever did experience an actual failure with the package but was always mindful of how I hard a wicked em up in those top two gears when riding two up and loaded to the gills.. Combine that with the need to short shift the missing 2nd gear that each of them had and you gotta KNOW how much fun we had wearing out those 400 dollar, cross country rippin Kings of CTFW!! -
looking to buy
cowpuc replied to wickster's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
A quick peek under the scoot may have shown where/what/when the fuel is coming from. The bowl overflow tubes end right in front of the mono and are easily identifiable as there are four of them sitting side by side. The fuel pump sits on the left side and is plumbed with rubber lines. I personally have had more issues with the inline filter mounted beside the pump when it comes to cracking/leaking. IMHO, accessing/removing the carbs on a 1st Gen Venture compared to the Honda Magna = the Venture is somewhat easier. If you have successfully removed and rebuilt the Magna carb bank you should have no problem with the Venture. If you do end up with the scoot, it might not be a bad idea to pull the seat and pop the top on the tank where the fuel level sending unit access is located. VERY simple job and being able to look directly into the interior of the tank with a pen light can be revealing as to what may be holding a float valve or two open... For restore pu2rposes and return on investment, be warned that these old Ventures wont compare to a Magna on resale (IMHO of course). I only say that as it is very easy to get upside down on investment dollars if you do end up doing a carb job plus.. Perhaps an even greater thing to consider here may or may not be the fact that in that you are looking at the 1200cc Venture, the probabilty of the bike being one with 2nd gear issues in the makings is high. By the way Wick,, -
HEAR HEAR!!! Spot on Wulfster!! Matter of fact,, due to them missing 2nd gear, all of my 1st Gens prior to Tweeksis were 4 speeders and they did just fine.. Short shifting 2nd was only a pain on mountain grades above 10 percent but even then it wasn't that bad and, as you mention - doing so actually added to the fun and challenge of the adVenture.

Getting to shoot the Springfield SOCOM 16 (Garand/M-14) was also a ton of fun!! Styled after the M1 Garand and chambered in 7.62 Nato, this treasure of a shooting machine was amazing in both its accuracy and its function. The SOCOM comes ported in stock OEM form and it's porting is remarkably functional in its ability to keep this shooter from climbing during rapid fire. All one has to do to stay on target while shooting a fast semi-auto shoot with this one is focus on correcting its creep to the right (at least that was my experience).. What a fun day!!

This little pump action WRF 22 reminded me a lot of the shooting gallery 22's of a time long gone bye. Although it was stamped "1890" it's action worked flawlessly after I figured out I had to eject the fired round in its chamber. It was also still very accurate and would still be a good hunting rifle in my opinion although I am not sure how available the Ammo is for such a relic. A very cool little shooter for sure and a real pleasure to shoot!

So what cha do if memory is serving me correctly is remove the nuts and slide the bolt out of the upper clamp. May take some banging but they should just slide out.. Just thought of something here,,, are we talking about removing the studs that the nuts screw onto?? If so,, I never did try to pull them,, I gotta hunch that those may be a machined pressed fit and or even welded in place for safety sake.. I think you may be in for a replacement part as a whole unless you are wanting to mod it.. Hold on,, let me check a parts list and see what it shows.... Yeppers,, take a peek at part number 10 on the link.. Is this what we are talking about? If so,, I gotta hunch those studs are not removeable without some work beyond just unscrewing... Maybe not but thats what it looks like to me.. https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/5004247cf8700209bc787e41/steering

What cha ridin there RR?? I always felt my 1st Gen MK1's coulda shoulda had a 6th gear but, unfortunately,, they predated the modern 6 speed trannies.. They really do pull hard all the way up to the top in 5th though dont they? I also ride an R1 that is smaller motored and has no issue bouncing the rev limiter in 5th (its a six speed but as shown in the video, +170 in 5th is/was about my limit even with that little 1000cc motor. I did run one of my 1st Gens out on the Bonneville tapped out in 5th and saw +130 fairly easily = perhaps Mom Yam thought that 5 forward gears was all the modern day drifter of that day and age out CTFW on one of their touring bikes was all they needed to have a pretty good time.. Speeking of modern day trannies, bigger motors and running triple digits,,, I am still somewhat as to why companies like Honda with their new Wing performance and Beemer with their WOWZY WOW WOW WOW 160 hp new touring bike decided to go to all that work of upping the displacements, do all the fancies to claim amazing HP curves on the dynos and then speed limited em to 112 for the Honda and 101 for the Beemer (imagine riding one of those gorgeous things and having some old geezer on a 74 inch Shovelhead come blowing by:buttkick:)... It all confuses my pea brain brother!!
