Don hit the nail right on the head. I use a set of vacumm gauges, set me idle at a grand, sync in order by the book.. I really have never concerned myself with exactly what vacumm I am pulling (would be if one was uncontrollable) but more concerned with getting them equal.. The base carb (the one you end up tuning the other carbs to) is basically unsettable.. Again, in my opinion syncing is about "balancing" the carbs so they are pulling the same vac.. One thing I do like to do, dont know if its correct or not, is when I am done I run the bike up to 3800 just to see what the "balance" looks like in the range I usually run it.. I have in the past "tweeked" on the sync screws to get it as close to exact balance at higher R's but I dont think this is by the book, just me screwing around.. I am sure the sync order is attainable here on the site, if you cant find it let me know and I will gladly take a pic of my book and post it... Puc

Randy, lilbeaver,, Yammer,,, anyone who cares.... Do we KNOW these specs to be accurate?? (I think Randy may have answered this down at Vogel for me but I learned soooooooooooooooo much down there and the ol memory fails me).. Not to be overly skeptical of yammy specs but it would be great to know if one of my buds actually saw the gear differences in person, counted gears, what ever.... Terrible pain in the,,,, aint I... and yes YammerDan,, I did FINALLY find the REAL Yammer hahaha

Hey Buddy, just wanted you to know that Tip (my wife) and I are praying for you and your wife. Hoping and praying they find the problem and you have a total recovery! We went thru some simular stuff, 5 surgerys later and NO more dirtbikes (was deeply into MX/Harescrambling ) , ended up selling most of my bikes (was in the business).. Those were VERY difficult years (woods riding is in my blood) but we found something we could do together in streetbiking.. If it happens again we will shift gears again and find something else to do together.. I can relate!! Puc

Sandman and I FINALLY got a chance to meet today, we dont live to far apart (think he said 130 miles??) and he drove allllll the way over just to say hi.. THANKFULLY he didnt give up trying to find our home even though our home phone had died - a true NO-QUITTER that Sandman is!!! Got to chat about Ventures (and other bikes) most of the day with this very knowledgable fellow VR guy!!! WAIT,, theres more,,, THEN Tippy and I spent the evening on some great riding with him... Not sure, never worked on a 2nd Gen but, I wonder if you looked up a wire diagram and checked to see if the fuel pump and headlights work off a common relay that would be a start... Got to be either that or voltage is sneaking in somewhere to activate the relay(s).. I had an old Virago that the wire harness got "pinched" at the neck of the bike and it pinched enough to splice some wires together and this caused some issues like you are talking about.. Maybe try turning off the key and wiggling wires around and see if the lights go off, simple but you never know..

Sounds to me like a relay is stuck on..
