WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,,, I'd be mighty careful with those kind of challenges when messing with Flyinfool my sweet brother.. I know of folks as far away as Southern Cal, Arizona, Washington (the State of), Florida, the entire eastern seaboard and all of Canada including British Columbia who ended up on the "bitter" end of Fool excepting challenges like that.. I will NEVER forget the time he got such a challenge from another southern gent down near Atlanta Georgia who :stickpoke:Fool in a similar way and to my recollect,, Fool and his Wisconsin White Washer stopped all traffic, shut down schools, closed airports and even almost canceled Christmas for millions of cute little southern kids with just a mere 5 inches of his special mix Wisconsin White Wash,,,, and all that was with hand filed nozzles.... Sadly,, due to your old buddy quoting you here,, the ability for you to delete your tempting post that I am sure will have Fool salivating thru his lips of blue has long since departed so your defensive options are narrowing down.. Being a very dear and close friend of yours and continually looking out for your best interests,,, you might want to consider selling a couple of your shooters and special ordering a snow shovel, snow blower (make sure you get at least an 8 horse/double stage blower), a snowmobile (so you can get groceries), a truck with a snowplow on it so you can plow your neighbors out and keep them happy (you don't seriously think their feelings toward you are gonna stay on the + side once they find out who is responsible for the WWW covering their environment do you?).. I know,, right about now your probably thinking - I wonder if Fool would accept a simple begging for mercy... Thing about Fool brother Sly is the Ice in his veins and his sheer joy of producing powder.. Also his pitt-bull attitude about being challenged.. Matter of fact,, I highly suppose he is out pulling the nozzles on the WWW as I type and is fitting up a jig to them that will set on his Surface Grinder so he can produce a special precision ground nozzle just for your location so I highly doubt you will slow em down at this point... My goodness Slyvester,,, what have you done:backinmyday: -
Ahhh yes,,, another positive outcome from shooting thru precision ground nozzles..

Looking AWESOME brother!!! It makes me just thinking about the performance difference between hand filed White Washer nozzles compared to precision ground ones,,,, looks like we poor friends of Fool on the other side of the pond will find out -
You made me cry Stang,,, I miss em.. The world does not have enough people in it with hearts to match the size of our friend Bongo's.. He was truly the real McCoy.. THANKS for sharing that story my brother!

Tip and I rode Tweeksis 2 miles down a very loose sand two track (the trail was freshly groomed for the upcoming snowmobile season) to get back to an abandoned blue berry patch to pick blue berries to send my fruitfly daughter who lives in California. Tweeksis's excellent throttle response keeping the front end light like a dirt bike kept us from going down numerous times.. What an amazing motorcycle these old Ventures are brothers and sisters.. Get out and ride! Puc

Not to sound redundent but reading this thru again makes me still think the probability that you have a Stator and/or Regulator issue going on. While far from a battery expert, I have found that it is not uncommon for a good battery to gain a recharge just from sitting after it has gone dead from not being recharged properly via a functional charging system. That would explain why after it dies and sits for a time, the battery recharges itself enough to restart the bike and run for a while (not so sure if this works with Lithium batterys but have experienced it numerous times with lead acid batteries in the past). As stated earlier, if you haven't done so, I would expose the battery so you can put an ohm/volt meter across the battery leads. Now start the bike and let it idle, put the ohm meter on low DC voltage (20 volts) and test across the battery leads, you should see about 12 volts. With the leads still attached on the leads, rev the bike a little and the voltage should jump to around 14.5 volts. If this test fails, you need to gain access to the Stator leads coming from the Stator to check the windings in the Stator. All doable, check at the battery first and if that test fails we can explain further testing of the Stator/Regulator system.. Bottom line, dont give up, it can be fixed,, it's just a matter of eliminating one potential issue at a time.. EDIT: Ooppsss,,, my bad,,, I missed the comment that you did do all the above and found the Stator system check to be fine,, meaning you did see at least 14.5 volts on the meter when you revved the scoot = right? That being so,, I will go back to reconsidering options..

Tip and I are also hoping to make it over to honor the life and times of Bongo, Carl, and share in the grieving of the communities loss and in the rejoicing that Bob's suffering is over and he is standing pain free in the presence of our Lord. As it stands right now it looks promising for us to make the trip. To your knowledge, are there any roads crossing Canada that we should avoid (road constructions?) brother? By the way @Marcarl, THANK YOU for posting up Bongo's Obit! It was greatly appreciated! I can't help but wonder if that should be moved to a thread of it's own so no one misses it.. Regardless,, THANK YOU for getting it posted here my brother! Love ya Puc

Here ya go Slyvester,,, your chance to meet Bongo pre your own heaven bound journey.. As yourself, the man was an amazing individual from all aspects and a good friend who, like you, loved The Lord, and who was never shy about sharing his love for Jesus, his fellow man and motorcycles. I am sure the crowns I lay at the feet of our Savior on that great day will pale compared to those of this giant of a man,, our friend and brother - BongoBob.. and quick vid of Bongo's well wishes/showing his love when another of our brothers (Yammer Dan) went down a while back..

My heart is breaking,, this is so difficult.. My deepest condolences reach out to Becky, Bongo's family and all his friends far and near. What an extremely special person our BongoBob is/was and what a blessing to have gotten to know him and share in his friendship. Thank you Lord for blessing us all by sharing him with us.. Thank you too Big Tom for keeping the updates coming even though it was very difficult.. Tip and I are continuing in prayer for you and your family as you work thru the days that lay ahead Becky. Bob was a truly great man who will be missed by many many people! Rest in peace my sweet brother! Puc

My deepest and most sincere heartfelt condolences go out to Becky, Bongo's family and friends at such a grievous loss as that of my brother and dear friend Robert "Bongobob" Scharf.. My mind is just swimming in sadness in hearing this,,, my gosh what are we gonna do without Bongo,,, as sad as I feel I can't help but have a broken heart for Becky,,, Becky,, if your reading this,, PLEASE know that Tip and I are thinking of and lifting you up in our prayers sister.. Bongo I am so sorry you had to suffer thru all you did at the end my friend and one of the first questions for the Lord that I will have when I join you in His presence up there is why... On the same token though I will follow up that question up there as I do now with a HUGE thank you to our Lord and Savior for blessing our lives with your presence! Your love of our Lord, family, your fellow man, motorcycles and willingness to share the knowledge that God himself blessed you with will never be forgotten my brother. Our loss is Heavens gain... Sounds like your summer fun is being held captive .. Pick up the bike, take very good and exhaustive pictures of the damage they did before you leave the dealership and ask for a a copy of the list of parts they ordered, tell em to call you when the parts are in and finish out the summer enjoying your ride - even if you have to hold it's body together with stickers and zip ties . When the new parts come in just take the parts and install them yourself BUT don't tell him you plan to do that or you will probably never get your parts!!

Prayers Up this morning Bongo! Hope your situation continues to improve my brother!!

Even though we can't tour on a bike anymore, it is no reason for not attending the rally. Here is a pretty good sample of the second day of the rally from a innocent bystanders on foot perspective. -

The day before we left for a couple weeks on our 2nd Tour of the season we went to check the blueberry ripening progress at the abandoned berry patch on Tweeksis (our 83 Yamaha Venture) and on the way home I noticed this really neat tricycle sitting in someones garbage. After strapping it on the back of our motorcycle and getting it home, we were pleased to find it in very functional condition. We dropped it off at Birdies house (my 2 year old grandson) on our way South West to New Mexico the following day and Birdie absolutely LOVED his new ride!! -
Prayers Up this morning brother!!

Draining the fuel tank
cowpuc replied to Herm1221's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Herm, pleasure meeting you and !! If the bike were mine I would pop the seat off and remove the sending unit from the top of the fuel tank. Then I would syphon it from the sending unit hole and be able to inspect the tanks internal condition with a flashlight. I would also take a mirror and look at the tanks top section for stalagtite rust growth just to be sure future carb plugging from rust was not going interrupt my fun while out CTFW (chasing the front wheel) a few hundred million miles from home. After that I would put er back together and refill with fresh gas. Open the drains on the carbs, turn the key on and cycle the fuel pump by turning the kill switch on an off to make sure my pump is working and she was pushing fuel to the carbs and that each carb is getting fuel. Next I would pull the diaphrams and try cleaning the carbs thru the drains with carb cleaner but that involves more story telling here and you are probable bored with this and have enough to do with draining and checking the tank so I will stop there Sorry to hear of the passing of your father,, I know how it feels. It is wayyy cool that you inherited and are working on getting his scoot up and going though. Congrats on the wonder challenge that lies before you and alllll the very best in getting that sweetheart back to life on the road!! Puc -

To quote Capt'N Jack Sparrow,, "not all treasure is Gold or Silver" and to anybody who is a motorcycle purist, this video defines Jack's iconic saying. While it does take a little treasure hunting,, scoots like this 1959 HD FL Pan can still be seen roaming the Prairie and "The Hills" during the rally..
