  1. I got chur 6 more weeks of winter right here Phillll,,, .22-250, 200 yards, cakes all dough... Never met a ground hog I trusted with my riding future!! Now that little curly haired girl singing "the sun will come out tomorrow",, her I trust :cool10:
  2. Never worked on a 2nd Gen so I am not sure what plugs are in em BUT the 1st gens use that little "D" plug.. The smaller plugs seem to foul easier than the larger "E" plugs that a lot of other bikes/snowmobiles and stuff use... If its actually been flooded out or over choked it may be time for a new set of plugs... Think thats bad, the little Honda's - Ct70's, 90's, Z50's take a smaller plug yet and they are horrible when it comes to blackened plugs... So,, if it were mine,,, I would pull the plugs, make sure the kill switch is off, crank er over a few times to get some air in there,, stick in some new plugs and try er again..
  3. If Red River Gorge is in the area it is WELL worth the touring time!!
  4. Don thats a very good point.. I have watched for years as the Metric bikes keep creaping closer and closer to HD in new sale prices (NOT TALKIN CVO's HERE), almost like they have about evened out.. I have also noticed that the Metrics usually have a steeper depreciation point... Hmmmm.. It also seems that HD has the best Nation Wide dealer support (IMHO)... They have come a longgggg ways since the shovel head/AMF days.. It would be interesting to hear some comparisons on parts costs these days,, brake pads - clutch plates - head light bulbs - tune up parts - oil filters..... Back when HD was my regular cross country bike (78 Low Rider) a Clutch Cable cost 47 bucks to replace, throttle cable was 60.. Same cables for a 750 Honda were about `15 bucks a piece... Wonder how close to even parts have come.. Anyway,, good point,, opppss, hi jacked another one,, SORRY BERT!!!
  5. Them Urals dont NEED no stinkin bags,,, got enough space in the side hack to put all your tools, camping gear, generator, air conditioner, artillery and ammo and still carry that fresh killed Muley back to camp laying over the spare tire... We done watched all those vids you posted,,,,,, very carefully :rotf:
  6. Oppppss Ion,,, sorry,, its patented :rotf: Shhhhuuurrrrr go ahead,, BUT if ya havent got what cha need when ya need it DONT BLAME ME!!! Other pointers, use actual motorcycle tie downs to hold tent on (work far better than bungees - lots of other uses like towing bikes, hanging close on, strapping broken bikes on trailers, stabilizing bike against tree to change tires), use luggage net over tent - place wet clothing/towels/wash cloths and stinky socks in netting - sun drys cloths and gets rid of stink, also carry cheap bike cover in netting.. Forgot the rest of the bike,,, cover bike in stickers from sites ya see (cheap souvenirs - help holds bike together when ya roll over on mountain trails) , animal horns on mirrors (even the nastiest of thieves wont touch your bike), party beads and ohhhh yea - have folks alllllll across the country sign your bike so you take your precious memories with you every where you go!
  7. Seems like whatever I pack its never the right thing:confused24: and I always find it out at the most inopportune times:rotf:. Right side bag = maintenance department= 1/4 drive socket set - deep and shallow with extentions, screw driver bits that fit 1/4 inch drive, set of open/box ratcheting wrenches with pivot, long reach needle nose, wire stripper/side cutters, 4 dollar ohm meter from HF, small roll of Duct Tape, variety of Tie Wraps, tire irons, 16 inch channel locks (favorite hand tool of all times), 5 foot of gas line (can hook up to tank vent and pressurize tank if pump fails), xtra brake pads, shrader valves, small spool of 14 gauge wire, small spool of safety wire, rubber bands, small flash light, lighter, shop rag and a little waterless hand cleaner.. Left bag = weather emergency stuff, balacalava's, snowmobile gloves, dirtbike googles, rain gear, old hoodies x 4, couple large garbage bags, toilet paper.. Trunk = clothing for the summer which amounts to weeks worth of clothes for the wife - an extra pair of socks/shorts/a shirt and jeans for me.. Top of trunk = Leather snowmobile jacket for wife - leather biker jacket for me.. Rack on back = Menards 2 person tent with sleeping bags/pillows/couple wash clothes and towels, squished moskeetoes rolled up inside.. Antenna mount = gallon jug of fresh water Fairing box (where cassette player was at) = medical department = Sunscreen, oral hygien supplies, pain killer (excederin, Ibuprofen), first aid kit, batteries. Tank bag = wallet, camera, small bible (need all the help I can get), knife, small flashlight (non emergency), camera batteries, clear and sun glasses, tire gauge.. Dash board - extra ball cap, plate to put under kickstand to keep bike from falling over on the desert floor - doesnt always work..
  8. Awe,, please tell Taters we send our love!! Glad your feeling better Tom! Puc and Tippy
  9. NICE Eck!! Thanks a gazillion!! Swear I saw something exactly like that cup holder last year at a Sturgis vendor for 69 bucks :rotf: LOVE your new boards too!!! Puc
  10. I smoked a turkey over Christmas for the kids,,, WOW did it come out fantastic.. Brined it in 50/50 water,Apple Juice - 1/2 cup Salt - 1/2 cup brown sugar per gallon, brined for 30 hours, smoked at 250 till the bird reached 165 in breast meat (took about 5 hours),, THE BEST TURKEY I EVER HAD!!!! Wonder how Harl,,, Hog would come out like this:confused24:
  11. :rotf::rotf: RATS!! I really really wanted to jump in earlier and say "I have smoked many a whole Hog on my old 1st genny" but was being polite, giving folks a chance to give some serious advice first,,,,, I waited way to long and let a Texan beat me out,,, that will teach me to be nice!! :stirthepot: Even harder to light, Bob,, even harder to light!!
  12. Went and test rode em late last fall. It was amazing the difference the water cooled heads made, its was also pretty neat how well the Motor Company had hidden the whole water cooling system.. That rear cylinder hot leg was a LOT better.. Also, I have a hunch that the valve timing, EFI settings are also different (maybe cause now they dont have to run em so lean to get by regs now ) cause the one we rode ran better than any of the other non water cooled bikes did.. Funny thing happened, we left the parking lot, this voice comes on and says - turn right at next intersection - so I did (thinking the folks at Sandys Harley in Fremont had programmed the factory gps for the demo route).. Few miles later it says - turn left - so I did.. Few miles later - thing says turn right - so I did.. About 15 minutes later the wife says "this is the longest and best demo ride we have ever had.. Another twenty minutes we come to a gravel road and the unit says,, turn left (down gravel road).. I stopped, looked at the wife, looked at the gps and said to it - "tell ya what, I will gladly go down that gravel road but before I do I wanna run home and get our tent ).. It didnt answer me back so I turned around and went back from whence we came.. Got back to the shop and the sales guys were TICKED.. I explained to them what happened and then they all started laughing.. Finally one of them looked at me and said "dont feel bad (I didnt - I was riding a 40k bike ), we tried and tried to figure out how to operate that stupid GPS system and nobody here could:rotf::rotf::rotf: Have since learned that the new water cooled bikes have been having problems with purging the coolant (burping on floor)... Maybe caused from to small of an area being cooled (only cools the exhaust valves).. Dont know if they have they ironed out or not... GORGEOUS bikes though, lots and lots of $$$ but still gorgeous!! Puc
  13. Froze solid:backinmyday:
  14. Forget the "sleeping in space",,,, I wonder if anybody ever,,,,,,,,,,,,, rode a 1st gen in space
  15. Years ago we ran actual snow tires in the snow, back then most "snowies" came pre-drilled/molded for studs, I actually had a set of snowies with walnut shells imbedded in the rubber - best snowies I ever had... Now studs and chains are illegal here.. Since radials came out and All Season radials became popular it is almost impossible to find any thing other than the All Seasons,, except for truck tires of course... I wouldnt be a bit surprised to hear that your "southern tires" are the same as ours now,, probably lots of folks with these All Season radials ripping around down there that dont even realize they are running snowies :rotf:
  16. Carl, Over here on the other side of the state, the tow-ers cant touch the tow-ies unless the authori-tees are there to do that paper work thing first... Detroit may be filing bankruptcy but Muskegon aint far behind!!!
  17. Jim: How far is he willing to drive (Michigan?) and is he looking for the newer model or one of the older ones??? Seeing a few around here at pretty good prices... Puc Might wanna check the VR classifieds!!!
  18. "DIAMOND" If he would have bought a Beemer, "Das Boat" would be a good one:rotf: hmmmmmmmmm,,,, spring must be coming, getting better..
  19. Way to go Bob!!! Now,,,, keep the memo you didnt get on time,, stick it in your "Ride Time" file - than when its ride time and ya show up the day after the ride hand it to em and say,,, I just got this memo that said we were closed cause of snow :rotf: Good on ya for being a loyal employee brother!!
  20. I am trying here Annie,, I am really am.. I just knew there were at least a couple folks on here who didn't/couldn't get out and get some of those VR adventure riding pictures and thought I would "engage the masses" and at least say HOWDY to em:bighug: As for the rest of these yahoo's,,, it's as entertaining for me to as it seems for them to have their :rotf: TOO young ladie!! Puc Hi Barry! No one knows it all,,, if we combine our knowledge and skills just think what we can all learn!! I thank em too!!! Puc I love Mark Twain,, fascinating chap:thumbsup2:,,, if I recall another one of his favored quotes was: "Our opinions do not really blossom into fruition until we have expressed them to someone else.":stirthepot: For a guy who was the silent type he sure wrote a lot of books, told a lot of tales and had a lot of opinions he liked to share... :rotf::rotf::rotf: DragonRiders response here may be very valuable to this thread!! If there are any of you folks who are reading this "Hello" thread who cant get out and meet people and have had this thought - "I wonder if these people really do exist,, or is VR actually just some guy writing all this stuff" - I CAN VERIFY AND CERTIFY these people REALLY do exist - some arent allllll there BUT ... And I sure hope the trail out from under the ROCK hard ice this spring finds us riding together again Randy!! The pleasure was mine good buddy!! Puc HI ya Bones!!!! Your wife sounds like mine,,, ready to hit the road!!!!!!! Shoot brother, sounds like you may find out that those thieves did ya a huge favor!!! Time for less and more !!!!! Tippy and I may very well make B2's "We Cruise and Fish Lose" this year too, maybe see you folks there!!! Puc
  21. Lets see here,, this "Splenda" sweetner I am putting in my coffee is suppose to be 3 times sweeter than sugar ,,, hmmm,, "SPLENDA",,, 3 times sweeter than SUGAR...
  22. And who says ya cant take it with ya eay:stirthepot: They better hope some low life grave digging thieves dont read that,,, around here they will steal a kids mini bike from the living,, imagine what they would do to a dead guy who cant protect his highly sought after 67 Harley..... Guess I shouldnt be so judgmental though,,,, there are still lots of folks who believe in the "let sleeping Hogs lie" philosophy Interesting story, thanks Donna! Puc
  23. Now if we were talking beach sand, 12 pounds of pressure works great!!! Keep it up down there and I will have to go into the "selling tire chains in the south" business!
  24. Now thats COOL (pun intended) IronMike, YOU my friend, earn your name!!! You made my day!!!:cool10: Puc
