  4. Ditto! Actually I noticed right away that the OP already has the ultimate in home defense (IMHO) - 12 gauge shotgun specifically made for home defense.. Ya just cant beat a short barrel 12 with a flashlight strapped on the side for looks, stopping power, pointing and shooting at close range AND easy access to over the counter ammo!!
  5. Condolences and prayers for you and your family Lewis!! Loosing a good friend who has been there thru thick and thin is one of the hardest things to go thru - may God be with you all as you go thru the grieving process!! Job well done Snickers!! RIP Puc
  6. Done. Tell your son I wish him well in his endeavor and I send a giant - THANK YOU - for his service to our Country!! Puc
  7. Indeed,, what a tragic and horrible thing to happen!! Condolences and prayers to all involved.. Terrible, just plain terrible!!!
  8. Depicted on the shield is a lake with a yellow sun rising over the blue waters. A man is standing on a peninsula with one hand raised in a greeting of friendship and the other hand holding a rifle. An Elk and a Moose support the shield between them and a Bald Eagle grasping an olive branch and arrows in its talons is shown above the shield. http://www.netstate.com/states/symb/flags/images/mi_fi.gif [ LARGE PRINT [ LARGER PRINT ] [ COLOR ME ] Three mottos are shown on the coat of arms: E Pluribus Unum (From many, one), Tuebor (I will defend), and Si Quaeris Peninsulam Amoenam Circumspice (If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you). These mottos are reflected in the coat of arms pictorially. E Pluribus Unum, also our national motto, aligns with the depiction of the Bald Eagle. Tuebor is represented in the arrows clasped in the eagle's talons and the gun held in the man's left hand. Si Quaeris Peninsulam Amoenam Circumspice is supported by the warmth of the sun, the man's friendly greeting from the peninsula and the olive branches held by the Bald Eagle. The Bald Eagle represents the United States and the Elk and Moose represent Michigan Really neat thread Randy!!!
  9. I would buy the freshest, lowest mileage, cleanest, newest 1st gen Venture I could find and be a VERY happy camper,,, but you said it has to be new.. Hmmmmm.. We are talking about a new long distance touring bike that the wife and I are gonna be spending all summer touring on,, right?? At this time I would have to say I would buy a Venture (only because I know em, these old 1st Gens have proven themselves over and over and over again to me - I trust em).. However, having never ridden one of the Gen 2's I would want to ride one first, test it with the wife on the back and take it from there.. I would also want to test a Wing (never rode the 1800) and the GTL too.. One of the things that I really have to have is shaft drive, I am to hard on belt/chain drive systems. That rules a lot of bikes out for the above usage.. Now,, if we were talking a rally going, town rippin, back street show bike,,, my choice would be totally different..
  10. Your welcome Randy! Nope, never did get the chance to ride a Diana.. Thats what you grew on wasn't it? Your dad probably heard that the old H1 was the fastest production bike on the market at the time and didnt want to put a monster like that screamin triple in the hands of a new rider,, cant blame him!!
  11. Many years ago I made a really strange discovery.. I had at the time a .22 ruger MK1, a Smith 29 .44 mag 6 inch, a 629 Smith 8 inch and a 1911 .45.. While screwing around "point shooting" (without using the sites) I was shocked at how much more accurate I was with my old beater 1911.. Just out of curiousity, I then pointed them at the target without looking down the sites and then looked down the sites to see where they were aimed. I was shocked at how far off the guns were in a natural point of aim (hope this makes sense).. After I discovered this I started checking handguns everywhere I went to see if I could find out which breed came to the closest accuracy between point shooting and actually aiming.. Because it wasnt necessary to actually fire em to test this, just hold it - left it up and point it at a spot on the wall, look down the sites and see where it was aiming, I could check em anywhere anytime.. By going thru all that I discovered that the Beretta 92f was spot on for me.. Food for thought..
  12. Hmmmm,, pipe looks like an old HD and front end look like an Indian..
  13. That single pushrod tube makes it look like an old Croker speedway bike but they were single cylinder.. While traveling out west a many years ago I stopped at a real old dealership with a mountain of bike frames out back.. This really neat old guy that owned the place was a genuine speedway racer many years ago, OLD trophies lined the wall - really neat!! He still had a number of old speedway bikes and had a Croker, wayyyy cool!! Got yapping about bikes of yesteryear, my love for Hare Scrambling/MX'n in the 60'70's, looked at the beat up ol 1st Gen I was riding with stuff hangin all over it, walked back inside and handed me a set of keys and said "there's a barn out back full of motorcycling history that you will love - lights are on the left side as you walk in - enjoy yourself". Spent 2 days digging around!! AWESOME!!!!
  14. While thumbing thru my old book I noticed something.. Look closely at picture number 7, the one showing the Duc 160.. Notice the Suzuki 350 Rebel shown beside it, see the writing above it? $770 for a brand new 350 Rebel, $975 for a brand new Titan 500!!
  15. Yea Dan,, go ahead!!! Tell ya what, you finish what you were gonna say, we'll all keep it a secret and 20 years from now when we celebrate Skids whipping cancer party, at the same time we will throw her a surprise birthday party and reveal our little secret.. By than you will be to old for her to
  16. Remember when you were a kid and all the boys were collecting baseball cards?? I do,, like it was yesterday.. Maybe the reason why I remember this was baseball cards just didn't trip my wire. My "bent" was bikes, bikes and more bikes.. It can be a traumatic thing being "different" (they say we remember trauma more than pleasure) and back then a kid wasn't exactly "admired" for his hearts passion of bikes, bike shops and for those that rode .. Today, while goofing off in our basement (MAN CAVE), I ran across something that brought all those memories right back to the surface. Memories of while all the other kids were spending time buying packs of bubble gum with cards inside, I was busy collecting motorcycle brochures and hanging out in local bike shops.. I always loved drooling over bikes, bugging the shop sales people, watching the mechanics, hearing bikes start and the smells - oh the smells!! There is just something really special about the mixture of the smell of new tires, spare parts, exhaust fumes, freshly uncrated bikes and repair shop odors that hit me like a high octane drug - it was (still is) intoxicating!! After spending hours carefully going over all the bikes, bugging the sales people and getting my fix I could hear little voices calling me from the brochure racks.. If I wasn't being pressured to leave the establishment, I would dig thru the racks until I found the brochure that was speaking to me and it would follow me home.. At home I had a little blue notebook where I carefully clipped in each new brochure that was now mine.. I would spend hours going thru my little note book, bonding with each of my prizes - tattering their edges as I admired and studied each bike.. Oh the memories.. Today, as I walked past a box in the man cave, I thought I heard those same little voices calling me back to the brochure rack.. Bewildered, I opened the box and this is what I found...:cool10:
  17. Have fun!!! THEY ARE AWESOME!! If we were out there I would go with ya in a heartbeat!!:cool10: We missed riding em at Sturgis last year (long lines) but did the demo in Michigan late last fall.. Pic below was of my favorite Indian (bike behind it was actually my favorite one there) ,, GORGEOUS bikes - I thought Polaris did a great job with em!! We went on the first day of the demo's, it was a Friday with very light turnout. Spent the whole day riding everything they had.. A buddy went the next day and waited 2 hours to ride one bike.. Only real issue I found was I noticed my left thigh/butt getting pretty warm thru the seat on em. Be curious if you guys notice the same thing.. If so and possible, ask the Indian folks about it, I did and couldnt get any kind of response from em...
  18. Good point!! Truth be known,, I was just trying to bring this thread back to the top without having to type "back to the top" (like I am doing now ).. Thanks for keeping the voting process honest and fair Yammer..
