This is sort of Venture Related - google street view
cowpuc replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
WORD!!! Little by little taking away all the fun in life cause everyone knows that adventure on a bike dont begin till your good and lost!! GPS = Go Park Somewhere,, we're ridin!!! -
The only disparity between my opinion and yours would be RSV's involved in accidents (no bike photo's look good here) or being hauled in a trailer instead of ridden (I think some other brands were actually made to be photogenic here)... Only bike that tops em is my old beat up fully loaded Gen 1,,, everyone has a right to their opinion!!!

No Skid, your right, havent had the honor of meeting her yet but when I do I am gonna shake her hand, give er a big hug and tell her THANKS for having your back!!! Being the wife of a LEO is NO easy task - I know cause my mom was one!!! Oh yea,, you are more than welcome my friend! how can you remember her when you cant remember which one you even is?? Prayers up!! -

Thanks Raider!! I have bought/sold a number of belt drive bikes (mostly HD's) and, mainly cause everyone seems to be getting away from shaft drive, have always wondered about em.. Never kept one around long enough to find out if they really are trustworthy for taking out for the summer.. Another part of my inquiry comes from the number of Strats/Roadliners I am seeing coming up for sale at really good prices.. Personally I like the looks of that "touring" Strat that Joe posted up, and by the sounds of things (stated mpg, durability, smoothness) they would make a worthy longgg distance machine!

That 14/17 looks really good for Tippy and I too Randy!! Be really good for the bikes emotions too after getting shunned out at Sturgis the week before!!!
-
All those possible complications are worth the risk just to get rid of the constant need to scratch that itch Good luck on the surgery Bob!!!

That kid in the video acted like he had never seen a kick start bike before:rotf: Hopefully this "step back in time" attitude of mother Yamaha is gonna eventually lead them to reintroducing a brand new 1983 Venture!!! Tell ya what Yamaha, put em together with upgraded stator's and tranny's this time, add on 10% to the original MSRP so you make a few bucks and they would sell like hot cakes!!! Oh yea, and PLEASE leave the cassette deck on the new ones,, it just wouldnt be one of our bikes without it!!!!!:cool10::cool10::cool10:

Its not just the air cooling that I am curious about, the Strat/roadliner/raider line is also belt drive and also a HUGE pistoned/push rod motored scoot.. Raider,, if you dont mind me asking, how many miles you got on her, how does it do as far as vibrations during long distance touring (got any 8hr plus ride days on it?), how is it on fuel economy at steady highway speeds, any belt drive issues?? With all the move toward giving in to the "V-Twin" demand I can see where Yam will do exactly like the pic of the "Tour Strat" for their tour bike,,, it is gorgeous but sure am gonna miss our Ventures.. :rotf:

Or,,, with the post of the recent thread about waiting for the new Yam to be unveiled I hope it doesnt come out to mean, we Waited Hopelessly Yamaha!! If so, why?

I think Bongo's just boogied cause he didnt get a chance to say it first :rotf: I might be wrong but I just cant picture Bongo being overly concerned with a bunch of unemployed joke crackers,,,, maybe though:stirthepot: IT WAS A GOOD ONE!!!!

That is the coolest Birthday well wish I have read in a long time,, brought tears to my eyes!! You got yourself a keeper Sleeper!!! Happy Birthday!! Puc PS - Tippy just read what you wrote and now ya got her ,, guess we are just a couple of old sensitive bikers who think the world needs more of what you guys got..

Yep,,,, same here Randy!!! Of course I get a lot of riding buddies with those $70 Hand Pumps (cool pumps, even have "HD" (which stands for heavy duty I guess) stamped on em, who laugh at me but hey,, at the end of the day I usually get home safely AND have a few bucks in my pocket for some of that Fried Chicken,,, mmmmmm mm..

I know this sounds NUTS but I carry one of those $7.00 (on sale with coupon) Harbor Freight pumps and cheapy lil plug kits from Walmart.. I have used my "kit" on numerous occasions both with mine and other bikes and LOTS of cars!! Its a little yellow plastic cheapy throw away pump that has always worked!! I like carrying the "throw away" model cause then I can afford to give it away and replace it (which did happen) during one of those days when "Murphys Law" is trying to get the best of someone.. Also, I know lots of folks who ride lots of miles on repaired tires, I am not one of them, flats on a loaded out dresser with a passenger on the back are not much fun to ride down,, I am one who will plug it, fill it and head to a bike shop to get another new tire and mount it up (carry tire irons too).. I too have carried the CO2 cartridges (years ago) and they do work good unless your dealing with reseating a bead or helping out a cager.. Better than nothing though!! Funny this thread came up.. I used my little piece of junk Harbor pump the other night to help a guy at the gas station.. He needed air and the stations pump was froze solid (-5),, little yellow worked great!!! Puc

I have been doing the same thing Jake, been a crazy winter for bike prices for sure!! I have been SHOCKED at the Craigs bike prices (and Ebay) in California, Florida and Texas all winter.. For what its worth, I picked up a 2007 HD Super Glide Custom with 19K on it a couple months ago for $4000. The PO's grandfather owned a HD shop in upper Michigan. After I paid for the bike I inquired as to why his grandfather didnt just put the bike on the floor for him and get "list" out of it.. Guy told me his grampa had only sold 1 bike since October of last year!! While we were chatting his Grampa walked in and verified what the guy was saying.. Bottom line, they (and all our shops around here) are VERY nervous of what the combination of really bad economic times and this crazy weather is going to do to bike sales this year.. I did turn around and resell the bike , made a couple bucks (1200) but it was not an easy sell!! Sure got me scratching my head!! The reason why is, HISTORICALLY SPEAKING, when values on HD drop all the other brands drop too.. Real scary if your in the business! EVERYONE around here is hoping and praying that its all due to this crazy sub zero weather BUT, the reality of that is yet to be proven!! Good post, THANKS!! Puc

There's a learning curve to every aspect of life!! Prayers up!! -
Yes, your thread too!!!

OUTSTANDING!!!!

See what we get for all our game playing this winter,,, threads like "Why", "naming yammers bike" and the latest "got a surprise coming Monday" has not only affected us but has now affected Yamaha themselves and got them doing it... Tried to tell you guys all that foolin around on the internet was gonna come to no good..... Its infectious I tell ya,, worse than the black plague!! On the same token,, be pretty cool if it was the unveiling of the new V-Max motored Venture we have all been waiting for!!

Kat, if all Mike did was adjust the valves in it there is a good chance that he has a valve or two to tight, the 800 uses the same kind of valve adjustment as the old Honda's - bolt thru a tappet with a lock nut - very easy to get em to tight.. Not sure if they have a compression release, if they do it could also be as simple as adjusting it.. Neither of those require a tear down so the costs might not be that bad...

Yep, know what exactly what cha mean Vern!!!
