  1. I think that is FANTASTIC Eck!! Our own little Memorial Day... Count me in!!!
  2. Super good post here Bay,, sure brought back lots of emotions, memories and describes my life to a tee.. Back in 1960, a little Puc in Kindergarten kept getting himself in huge trouble cause he didnt fit the societal mode of "normal".. Instead of playing with little boys collecting ball cards - playing little league baseball and such,, he was busy drawing pictures of Choppers - collecting motorcycle pamphlets, tearing up his grampa's lawnmower just to see what made it run.. Definitely a problem child.. NO ONE back than understood the meaning of "its in his blood" and the little fellar got many a whoopin to try and drive those "feelings" far from him... It didnt work cause you cant change who or what a person is... Still to this day,,, doesnt matter what I am riding,, be it a moped - dirtbike - minibike or full blown dresser - I still get that same feeling you are describing everytime I am riding.. Yea,,, 11th amendment should have read as follows,,, Government shall pass no laws infringing on the right to keep and bear motorcycles.. All other forms of transportation shall herein be considered secondary and subservient to the above.. In that motorcycles have a soul and provide the means to "the pursuit of happiness" all forms of taxing and harrassing associated with motorcycling qre herein deemed unconstitutional.. Going down that long lonesome highway,, bound for the mountains and plains,, sure aint nothin here gonna tie me,, and I got some friends I'd love to see again,, one of these days I'm gonna,, settle down,, but till I do I wont be,, hangin round.... Sang it for years and still do too DJ!! Gotta say though,,, looking back on my years of "going down that long lonesome highway",,,, I have gotten sooo spoiled by my Venture seats that the thought of the seat on Bronsons sporty for all those miles makes my butt ache
  3. And hear is another short vid of todays outcome.. Man what a fun day,, springs coming!!!
  4. Got a BUNCH in today,,, working on an old cop bike made me think of our friend Skid!!! Prayers Up!!
  5. Crazy aint it Jim.... Drives me nuts too,,, my wife keeps telling me to stop looking back when I point stuff like that out (easier said than done..),, Puc, she says,,,, look at all the fun you had living thru though years,,, yea I say,,, but if I would have only known.. Michigans the same DJ on the plates,, I have several of those Historic Plates and run them A LOT.. Here,, you can get a 15 year "Historic Plate" (bikes gotta be 25 years old) for 30 bucks OR you can get an old plate that matches the year of the bike (like the one on the back of this Cop Hog,, and it DOES NOT even have to be from Michigan) and pay 5 more dollars and have that plate permanently attached to that bike.. Been running em on my Ventures for years and EVERYTHING that falls inside of rules.. This will make ya laugh,, my neighbor says,, cops are gonna take your motorbike away from you for running that fake plate on there.. I says,,, why,, its legal, nothing fake about it... He says,, those are for parades only.. I said,, ya gotta read the rules,, you can be going to and from shows/events,, be working on your bike or test riding after working on it.. I love test riding my bikes,, I always stop at bike events, I am always showing - off,, and I have NEVER owned a bike that I am not constantly working on:rotf::rotf::rotf: Concerning the fairing,, it came with the windshield attached, the fairing was unattached and I just laid it up above the lite to show what it looked like... GOOD EYE DJ!! Not ready to let that cat out of the bad yet Bill,, this one may very well end up on E-Bay and I would hate to have that info floating around out there in Cyberworld during a sale,, could be not good.. Ask me again over a camp fire this summer,,,, man I miss camping.. Ok,, got the first vid up,, this vid was intended for the deceased PO's family (great kids!!) so thats why I mentioned their names.. I promised them I would post one up for them as soon as I got it running.. The son of the PO wanted soooo badly to hear his dads old bike run again but it just couldnt happen in its condition at the sale so I did the next best thing... Gotta love the relationship between a gear headed biker and his machine,, the girl - Jillian - said I reminded her soooo much of her father it wasnt funny... I love bikes but I love people more... parts bike

Indeed,, selling for a penny and charging 50 shipping and HANDLING (I call em scammers) seems to be the wave thats been white capping for the last 6 - 8 years... Stupid economy... Oh well,, at least we are all in it together - thru thick and thin... Ya know,, I read something really cool on here a while back.. Somebody mentioned a "Pay It Forward" thing that was done in the past.. What little I know about it, it sounded like a lot fun and a good way to help each other out... What ever happened to that?? Hope I am not opening a can of worms guys, that is not my intent,, just really liked what I was reading... I junked 2 old 1st Gens a couple years ago,, still had a few usable parts and I felt really bad but this stuff can accumulate sooooo flippin fast....
  7. Thats cause he is saving it to get reinvigarated after putting around on his 2nd Gen OPEN DA GATE AND GET OUT DA WAY,, YAMMERDAN COMIN OUTA CHUTE 9:rotf:

Rbig,, I am with Bongo,, to me thats pricey.. Because its missing second gear, the only way I would hand over 500 bucks for it is if it were other wise in exceptional condition or if it were totally rideable and ready to go (I have rode these puppys thousands of miles with no second gear BUT,, thats about what I have into them too) so I could hear, see, smell for myself whats going on internally.. You probably already know this but if second gears out of it its probably got at least 30K on it, plastic water pump has probably dissolved and stator issues, are a given unless already upgraded.. Carb diaphrams and cleaning... Stuff just adds up so flipping fast... I have been watching the market really closely (its how I make my living) and have seen a number of them ready to go for around that $1200 mark and most are still out there.. Personally,,, and this is coming from an area where bikes are plentiful so ya gotta consider that,, I think $250 for a parts bike is fair... On the same token,, if ya need the parts and can off the other parts to offset your costs,,, heck ya... Oh yea,, I parted bikes out on E-bay a number of years back,, did really really well BUT, times are different.. A lot of the stuff that I was seeing 150 - 200 bucks for have been in the 10 dollar range... Good for the buyers but really tough to make a buck at it nowadays.. Just a thought,, hope it helps... Puc
  9. This one came out of an Estate sale that Tippy and I went to Sunday.. I was surprised by the lack of interest in it,, maybe cause its a "Police Special", maybe cause it obviously had not been ran (tank was 1/2 full of fuel turned to molasses),, at any rate - it followed it us home.. Story was that the old guy who had passed away aquired it from the Detroit Police.. I am (as my neighbor says) unique in what catches my eye,, and ol bikes always seem to.. On the way home Tippy says,, sooooo,, whats your plan,, resale like it is or ya gonna dig into it and,,, I stopped her.. I said,, you know me,, I cant wait to at least clean the carb on the thing,, did you see the carb?? She's like,, what?? It has a Keikhefer Quick Silver carb on it,, never in all my years have I seen one so I at least gotta clean the tanks and the carb right??... Spent the day out front on the slab (YES - a WHOLE day outside FINALLY -- NA NA FLYINGFOOL - you and your snowstorms are slipping buddy!!), tanks cleaned, carb cleaned (pretty interesting internally - good shape but I aint NEVER seen anything like it - float valve lays horizonally - is brass with an actual ball bearing used as a valve - neat stuff), new plugs, points cleaned and set, oil changed... Pulled a line off at the oil cooler - oil pump doing its job.. Had to jump it with the car (battery is shot of course).. By the time Tippy and the daughter got back from the movies ol Pucster was cruisin the hood on it.. Put 73 miles on the old girl!! BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR AN OLD SCHOOL FOOL ON AN OLD SCHOOL HARLEY... 1970 Harley Police Bike, pre AMF, 74 inch Cone Shovel, 4 speed, Lights all worked fine, Very very little oil leaking (I am thinking that the little bit I got from it is from the chain oiler - oh yea chain drive, I was shocked - NO SUMPING after sitting all those years, numbers matching frame and cases, no cracks in any of the fiberglass (UNREAL), 23k miles that I have a hunch are pretty accurate... TAKE A LOOK AT THAT OL COP TRUNK - IT IS HUGE!!! I know it aint no new Venture, Indian or Harley but to me,, these patina covered ol scoots just make my heart palpitate... Thought some of you folks might enjoy hearing about it.... And Lord,, if your listening,, thanks for the beautiful spring weather yesterday and today,,, finally working outside,, hands all covered with gassy smell,, grease smeared across the chin,,,,,, it was awesome!! Puc PS,, got another short video or two of it running,, when I get a sec I will toss it up on you tube so you guys can see.. I also yapped with the previous owners daughter about the bike,, I promised her I would make her a video of me riding her dads old bike when I got it going,, her name was Jillian,, real good people!!! Might hear me mention her in one of the vids.......
  10. WOW,, waaaa WOW WOW WOW is that GORGEOUS!!!! Lucky it wasnt me taking it out for a ride,,,,, I'd a been headed for the coast (and,, ahhhhh,, good luck catching on a wing - unless its the 1800 of course LOL),,,, tent just a floppin in the wind,, Tippy sleepin on the back and people just snappin pics as we fly by em... YEEEEEEEEEHAAWWWWWWWWWWW:thumbsup: giving real meaning to that archaine saying.. RIDE IT LIKE YA STOLE IT!! Masterguns,, that is AWESOME!!!
  11. ME AND MY BIG MOUTH:ignore:,, FF,,, with friends like you,,,,,,,, may as well sell the bike Venture and buy a snowmobile Venture,,,, sheeeesh,,,,KNOCK IT OFF WILL YA!!!! Send this batch down to those rebel suthna's,, like YammerDan, Ventura's and Dragon Slayer,, they like the stuff.....
  12. WE NEED A HEAD COUNT!!... PLEASE!! Lots of info and hard work has been posted by LoneEagle for the VW14 gathering at http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ture+West+2014 Now we'd really like a head count. VW14 is 80days away and it's time to start planning in earnest... We have a few things up our sleeves besides arms... Just quote the last reply to this thread and add your name and location at the bottom of the list. That way the last post to this thread will have all the names in one post. Thanks.. #1 Lone Eagle Concord CA #2 Condor Carmichael CA #3 Rable Portland Oregon #4 #5 MikeWa #6 Cowpuc and Tippy, Muskegon Mi
  13. GOOD ON YA BROTHER DAVE!!! Gobble up some miles for me too!!!!! Glad everything turned out so well on your bike,, heres to a GREAT riding season!!
  14. Living right on the Lake Michigan shoreline in Muskegon Mi and having friends like FLYINGFOOL in Wisconsin who sends me all of his left over snow and ice gives me a chance to know exactly how you feel Sexa,, we use TONS of salt to get rid of this,, pretty white stuff(blood pressure control)... Problem with waiting around here is that it might be June before all the salt is gone (remember, as the ice mounds melt on the sides of the roads they are putting salt right back on the freshly rain cleaned roads) and it will certainly be mid July/early August before the road patchwork is complete (if even them).. I personally dont wait.. I take every advantage of riding that I can BUT I also dont ride big dollar stuff either.. If I KNOW I am riding thru salt water and dont end up riding in rain I might stop and squirt it off BUT,, even salt dust wreaks havoc on Aluminum... I have several times in the past shot down my bike (no,, not the brakes or seat,, come on you guys,, be real)) with wd40 to slow down corrosion and it helps... This last winter TXSTURGIS (Brian) posted a thread about some stuff they use on Air Craft that is suppose to be extremely anti corrosion,, I am still waiting for some with the intent of trying it for a bike bath in just the application we are talking here (I really wanna try this stuff on electrical connections - riding a pitted out ol beater I dont mind,, when they die cause of a corroded up electrical connection - I MIND... Around here,, if your concerned about pot holes or gravel spots built up from plowing being a problem ya probably should think about another mode of transportation.. We have had it so bad the last few years that there are actually some main roads that the county has just allowed to go back to a gravel/pot hole asphalt mix.... Bottom line for me is,,, I aint letting no salty roads or pot holes keep me off the roads,,, now the cold weather at my age,, different story.. I have a couple buddys who ride 30 thousand dollar bikes and we dont see them out and about until July 1,, nice bikes - great guys and all that,, they just dont get the riding in that I do.. I TOTALLY understand their point - thats a LOT of money to take out and destroy... Ya know,, I wonder if VR folks who live near oceans have the same problems,,, if they do,, I wonder how they deal with it...
  15. Nice,, REAL NICE FIND!!! I have picked up a number of little bikes like that over the years, cleaned em up for resale.. Been a LOT of fun.. Couple of real quick suggestions for you if you dont mind.. Double check the tank for rust - look carefully along the interior seams (good lite and a little mirror) - even the smallest amount of rust can work thru filters and mess up a good carb cleaning.. Pull the plugs and the tappet covers, put a 1/2 teaspoon of mystery oil in the jugs, bathe the cam(s) with oil while spinning it over (I like to take off the stator cover - put a socket on a drill and spin it with the drill while squirting oil onto the cam journals - easier on the starter) - most bikes I have worked on are line-bored aluminum journals on the cams and they dont fair well being started dry.. Pull the carbs, check the diaphrams (if they are CV), if they are iffy and ya cant find replacements a little smear of Yama Bond #5 works great.. Clean the carbs (sonic with vinegar works marvelous) making sure those stupid little passages leading to the ventura are open.. Check the airbox for mice nests.. Toss on a new battery. Shoot a teaspoon of gas into the jugs, stick the plugs in it, press the button, air up the tires while its sitting there purring like a kitten and ride away into the sunset.... LOOKS LIKE YA GOT A REAL NICE BIKE THERE GODLOVER!! CONGRATS!!! Puc

    Why?

Why are we trying to lose Mickey now too,,, why am I confused again...
  19. Another marriage/family that evil and all his helpers failed to destroy,, GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN US THAN HE THAT IS IN THE WORLD!!! Congrats to you and your bride on your victory over the biggest plague on our nation - the destruction of the American family.. Cher and I will be uplifting the both of you in our daily prayers as you continue to seek Gods mercy, grace and protection while you two continue in your daily spiritual battle for rekindling your love for each other.. We have been thru almost exactly the same senario as you described Don.. Both became Christians and loved serving the Lord long before we knew each other, met one another in Church - became best friends - fell in love - got married - I got distracted in my relationship with God (life gets VERY complex in a hurry after marriage, not an excuse its the truth) - lost our "IN LOVE" for each other - stayed married for the kids - last one left and out came the Michigan Divorce Manual (my return to drinking after 30 years of sobriety made it HELL on all of us) - went to MANY counselors (both Pastoral and Secular) - was told by most that it was over - quit drinking and we made the decision to seek God and try to restore our marriage - we both prayed a LOT asking God to show us the path to restore the friendship we once had AND our lost "IN LOVE" feelings, God led us to a website called "MarriageBuilders.com" - out of ALL the counseling (friends, pastors, shrinks, family) Dr. Harley with Marriage Builders is the ONLY human we ran into (THANK YOU LORD!!) that REALLY understood the absolute need for the "IN LOVE" part of a marriage relationship (we never lost our "love" for each other, we lost our "IN LOVE" for each other and were begging God for its return) - we started reading Dr. Harley's book called "Fall In Love - Stay In Love" and ended up going thru his AMAZING course for rekindling friendship/love.. Don and Eileen, Marriage Builders is a strongly Christian based organization that has taken on the spiritual battle of fighting the plague.. God put us thru a LOT of research (Cher was studying while I was drinkin) and we found these folks to truly be one of kind.. They deal with ALL scenarios of marriage destruction (from Affairs to Drug Abuse and beyond) all built on the premise that our God can and DOES restore the "IN LOVE"/best friend part of Marriage and that God WANTS us to be "IN LOVE" til death do us part!! Don,, I am sooooo happy to hear that you two have chosen to go on in your marriage!! God bless you both as you begin another great adventure together with Him! Prayers Up Puc
  20. Prayers up,, Blessings down...
  21. Donka Rooster!!! "Mention" = people (if I recall correctly),, meant to be read - I love the German people.. Herbort produced, among other things, cherry pitters.. A group of investors decided to try and open a production plant for pitters here in 81, I got hired as Mechanical Supervisor.. 3 of us went to the mother plant in 82 for 6 weeks of training.. The company gave us the choice of housing with some German folks in thier homes or moteling it.. I chose to stay in house with real German folks.. Lived with a family on a farm, had a BLAST!!!! Knew NO German, they knew NO english.. I started making my own Deutsche "Vertaboo" (dictionary) at day one (still got it stored in my Herbort Memories) - I would point at an object - they would pronounce it and i would write it down phonetically, they did same with english. Worked GREAT!!! By the third week I was able to jump on a train (lots and lots of train travel there) and navigate all over Germany, even traveled down by Austria, LOVED ULM AND STUTGART!!! Did a LOT of bicycle travel too, given a choice to get a drivers license but didnt need it.. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it... Guden Tag Puc
