    Old bike

Yooooo bigbob,, wassup... One of my daughters grew up on a RV125,, green one, rode the socks off it,, really fun little bike.. She was short legged compared to the other kids so it fit her well.. Those things ride like a giant marshmellow,, a real blast!! Have also bought/sold a number of them over the years.. Tops on resale for me, as I recall, was 1800 bucks but that was for a spotless turgoise (90) that had just over 300 original miles on it and back before this stupid recession. It also still had the little hand pump that hung under the frame tube above the engine, original paper work, tool kit, blinkers and ran perfect.. I noticed a pair of them recently up north of us for 300 bucks each, passed on em cause ROI on my trail bike sales has really shrunk last few years.. About the one your lookin at,, those ol Suzy's like to loose crank seals and suck air - destroys top ends,, just ask him what seals he replaced and see if he mentions em.. Also, the primary shaft (behind the front sprocket) takes a whoopin pretty good,, see if its got any oil gathering in that area.. Tires aint cheap for em cause of their size.. Nowadays, I would probably steer clear of a nice clean one above a few hundred bucks and, if I bought it I would expect to sell for 7 to 9 with a little savvy but its always a risk.. Would be sticky above that.. All my dealings were with the 70's 125/90 two strokes,, if memory serves me correctly,, they were all 4 speed boxes x2 givin em an 8 speed gearbox, not 5 speeds.. They arent really that rare as they made a lot of them - early 70's all the way thru the 70's,,, maybe even into the 80's.. Seems like if there were any collectability to em it would be the real early ones.. His title should tell ya year,, if no title google and engine/frame number and you can find out.. If nothing else,, if its stock color tell me what color it is and I can probably hit er pretty close.. Got lots of old brochures that I can double check.. On the the other hand,,,, I think Suzy re-introed the RV in a late model,, thinking it was a 4 stroker,, know NOTHING about em,, have never even seen one (I see a LOT of bikes, if I see one I have never seen before my interest pick up),, perhaps that is the type your looking at?? If it is one of the 4 strokes,, possibly only made a couple years,, than yea,, I smell the potential for some collectibilty there... Best wishes on the flip if ya go there!! Puc
  4. Do this Kat,, I will gladly watch over Larry's and Mikes shoulders and breath fish breath on em while they tune Mikes bike,,,,,,, cant wait to see ya'll again~~
  5. Thats probably a whole lot more acceptable than my method,, I prefer a gallon jug of water hangin on a my flag holder,, reach back, grab da jug, take a swiller AND than dump a nice cool douse over ya head an down your back and belly -- ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  6. o Been torturing myself,, and my wife for years too Sailor.. Can honestly say,, nope,, it never ends,, its an on going search for parts/pieces, hopin that 18 over front end ya just picked up is as straight as it appeared at the swap meet, busted knuckles, clothes that smell like a weird blend of taco bell and gasoline,, and sleepness nights wondering if you torqued those cam bolts down on the engine you were putting together when your neighbor stopped by to say hi.. :rotf:
  7. Yeahh Oldodge,, I truly do.... You, my man,, are welcome for the ride! Glad you enjoyed it!! Puc
  8. Man I really like where Neil took that writing.. I might add that it is very easy to get caught up in the "how many miles we ride" thingy,,, in a competitive kind of way (I actually mean this in a positive sense - I am just like lots of folks out there,, get a goal and chase it till I win hahahaha).. The other side of that coin is that is just one small aspect of biking.. I personally have had many many 50 mile days of two-trackin that have been just as much fun as any high mile day ever ridden... When it comes to bringing a new passenger into the realm of touring I strongly suggest you verbally let it known that riding is allllll about fun and if fun for the newbie (especially a spouse) is going for groceries, a sunday afternoon 40 mile ride and lunch or whatever,, listen and cater to THEIR needs and build on it.. Establish the rule of "we are in this together and doing it for fun for BOTH" right from the beginning and you may very well end up finding something within that other person that will AMAZE ya,,,, scare em off and it could ruin something that could have been very very special... Last year, Tippy and I came out of the east side of Yellowstone, pulled into a small grocery store located before Cody.. Some guys from NYC pulled in, were staring and glaring at our dirt covered, weeds hangin ol beat up Tweeks of a bike.. Guys were riding new Duc's and Beemers.. Tippy says,, are you sure you wouldnt rather be like them,, riding with your buds.. One of the guys over heard our conversation and chimed right in,,, said, I think that beast you two are riding is the prettiest bike I have ever seen, he also said how much he longgggg for his wife to ride with him.. Said he really messed up by "pushing her" and now wished he wouldnt have.. Looked at his buddies and said,, out loud so they could hear,,, "these guys are my good friends but my wife is my BEST friend and I miss her"..
  9. I used to wear a pair of spandex type shorts with a shammy cloth like liner in them for racing dirtbikes.. Had my share of problems down yonder before doing so.. If you could find a pair (I am sure they gotta still make such a thing - in the mountain bike world maybe) it would be well worth a try!!
  10. Tippy and I flip a coin for the same purpose on a regular basis Bongo,,, that spinning of the bottle has other adventure connotations not nessecarily fit for VR..
  11. Indeed Sailor,, I can sure understand why... This thing is the slowest (ok, it'll do 60 but is happiest at 42 miles an hour, hardest riding thing imaginable (hard tail - pogo seat that lets ya know it aint happy if your slightly overweight),, most complicated operating bike I have ever ridden.. Things gotta be right just to start it,, much less going down the road on it.. Every corner,, whether in traffic or just out messing around, you have to go thru a barrage of manuvers just to stay moving, if your not the type to "feel" gear engagement I honestly think you could destroy the tranny within a few hundred miles, has the oil tank where the gas tank is on most bikes - folks complaining about engine heat on a modern air cooled bike have NO room to complain.. ON THE OTHER HAND,,, it is the absolute FUNNEST bike I have ever ridden,, some due to all of the above (I know, I know,, been told over and over again - I am one strange person),,, mostly because it just wreeks of survival, FREEDOM and of folks who gave it all for an American way of life that has all but disappeared, kinda like some of the same feelings I have gotten touring small cowtowns out west where easy rider rifle racks are everywhere.. The thing also gives me a strange new respect for what our Veterans past/present and future have gone thru/going thru for freedom's sake,, God Bless em all......

    Why?

You guys ever watch "Lion King" with your kids (probably a number of folks here with 1st Gens who have watched it without the kids while waiting for your buddys with 2nd Gens to catch up:stirthepot:).. Remember the part where the Higheeenahs say,, "Mufaaasah" shiver and say - "say it again",, "Mufaaasah" ohahha, Mufaasah mufaasaa mufasah.. Why is it after this past winter everytime I hear the name "FlyinFool" I feel like one of those Higheeena's sayin Mufaaasah,,, shivers and all..:rotf: Why is cabin fever sooo hard to cure.... Why do I think after a month in the desert sunshine this year I may be feeling normal again..
  13. Hi Mike Just wondering,,, how much experience does he have,, if he is starting from scratch with no experience and you have access to some off road riding area - or even a big yard - the little XR100/XR80 kinda bikes are perfect trainers - learning off road first is best case senario IMHO (lots of folks dont agree with that).. Lotta bikes for sale out there,, watch Craigs in your area (use Adhuntr - all of Craigs),, you will find him what he needs!! Best wishes in doing so!! Puc
  14. Money, the 1st Gen's bars, like already mentioned, are adjustable on a 2 axis basis (an INCREDIBLE design by the way). I adjust my bars inward and down so when I am touring I am leaned back against the passenger (or bed roll if riding single - or back rest if not touring), I have them adjusted so with my feet up on the engine cases my knees can contact the bar ends - I DONT condone anyone doing this but I steer with my knees a lot on the open road while eating dinner and such,, gonna catch heck for admitting that but what the heck .. In this configuration I can also stretch out with my legs hanging from foot pegs attached to the crash bars, almost lay down on the bike, tipped up in the torso just perfectly comfortable and can ride for hours and hours like that in total relaxation.. For stretching I will also ride with my toes on the rear pegs or standing up at times,, being able to "move" around on the bike from position to position tends to keep stiffness at a minimum and has enabled me to ride a lot of miles daily and cover long distances in real comfort. I have never found it necessary to mod a first gen seat, in all the years of riding these old bikes I have never, or had a passenger rarely, complain about a hurting butt from the stock seats - given though,, I have always ridden the 83/84 models, cant speak for the MK2 1st Gen seats.. I have actually anticipated my first encounter with either a 2nd Gen Venture or RSTD and intended to figure out a way to mount one of my 83/84 seats on one,, probably look like a frankenstein bike but I dont care,, for me - comfort is everything.. On the same token, I have heard many many good things about the "Butler" mod.. I wouldnt hesitate for a second to send a seat to him for design change.. At this point, I have just not found it necessary to do so for my needs.. I did do a fair amount of touring on a 73 650 Yam back in the 70's,, you talk about a sore butt,, To bad this Rick Butler guy wasnt around back than cause he sure could have saved me a LOT of pain!!! Have fun out there!! Puc
  15. Hey Don,, I go to add that into my signature with the rightful owners name attached,, the sites filter wouldnt let me put his name as stated... Had to change it a little but got it done!! Thanks for the input!! Puc
  16. With soooo many cherries on the tree to pick from it sure sounds like your son picked a dandy!!! Gotta admit,, Honda sure has come out with some awesome bikes thru the years and that 919 is one of them!! Tell your son CONGRATS,, hope he has a safe and FUN time on it this summer, and many more to come!! Puc
  17. WOW - do I like that!!! That is sooo perfectly put Crazy... Craze, would you mind if I stole that line for my signature area here on VR?? I will gladly put your name on the end of the quote so as not to be declared a plagerizer.... I LOVE that line,, it is sooooooo true!! Puc

    Surgery

WOW!!! Never heard of that one,, sounds fasinating!! One of your Dr's names isnt Dr. Kimbal Pratt is it 1-Up? Pratt is the one who did my surgerys.. The reason I ask is I know that Dr. Pratt was working with a company call Depleag (or something like that) years ago in developing new stuff like you are discribing.. They were working out of the Chicago area, I sent my porfolio in to them to try and be a development guinee pig for them but my back was to far gone.. 1-Up,, what you are describing is AMAZING!! WOW,, they have come a longgg way,,, just incredible!! Definitely praying for you and for the Dr.'s as they do their thing and that the final outcome is nothing short of miraculous!! Puc
  19. A i Playboy,, that Vic would have taken about as long as takes for me to pack it up and head west for it to grow on me,, THAT IS GORGEOUS!! I have spent a little time playing with the Victories too,, I still contend that there is NOTHING on two wheels that handles like the Vision 8 Ball,, LOVE the 106,, buddy had an earlier model than yours and had some electrical issues,, I am sure these newer ones are way better.. On the plus side, Victory treated him great with their warranty - something that seems lacking in today market place.. At any rate, congrats on your new baby,, here's to many many trouble free fun miles!! Puc Hey Eck,, I have a Honda Helix that Tippy and I ride allll the time as an around town bike.. Things a BLAST!! It is soooo much a moving couch it aint funny.. I have only had one bad experience with it in all the time I have owned it.. Got a flat tire on the rear, had Tip on the back and a bunch of groceries packed on it.. I have had my share of flat tires on motorcycles in my life,, everything from dirtbikes to fully loaded Ventures with passenger and all the gear and I can tell ya,, I have NEVER had a trickier bike to ride to a stop with a flat rear tire than that Helix!! It was scarey UNREAL.. Our neighbor has a Honda Silver Wing, absolutley LOVES it!! Talk about FLY - and talk about AWESOME brakes,, the ABS on the new scooters are nothing short of amazing..

    Surgery

YOU are on my prayer list 1-Up!!! Been thru 5 of those surgeries myself (only they had to do rods and saddles cause of broken bones - was paralized from the waste down),, not a picnic.. I remember my Neuro Surgeon sitting in my hospital room talking to me a couple weeks after one of my surgeries telling me how unusual cases like mine were,, he said that usually they are able to go in and remove portions of the disc(s),, still paralized, I asked him how many of those types of surgeries he had been successful with.. Assuming this is what your having done, his response to that may be very important info for you (probably heard it a million times over already).. He said "those are successful to almost 100%, the problem that I have faced with that surgery is getting people to be very very careful until the "pocket" where the disc section was at before removal has a chance to fill in - if a patient isnt very careful during that crucial time the remaining disc will pop out into the void and when that happens we are right back to square one".. Beg ya bother,, listen very carefully to your doctor no matter how "good" ya feel a few days after surgery.. Follow his instructions to the tee!! Dont overdo it.. I wish you the absolute best recovery possible!! Puc
  21. Well Foyerboy,,, got baaadd news for ya brother,, with that kind of philosophy your chances of ever growing up are very very slim.. Been tryin for many years and, for some reason, it just never takes..

    Why?

    bumps why speed?
  23. Goes both ways Dale... Tippy and I just came in from our first ride together on our Honda Helix,, in tears Tippy says,, lets go home, saddle up "Tweeks" (our beat up ol 83) and head west early... Gotta love the way that lady thinks.... OUCH!!!!! Praying for your Mother-in-Law Hugger!! OUCH!! :rotf:your rotten :rotf: When our kids were little I would make trails of rabbit food (hunks of lettuce, carrot pieces) on Easter Morning through the house,, little notes along the trail (i.e. - no basket here - follow the trail to the bath tub).. Had a friend tell me I traumatised my kids by not giving them a "normal" Easter Day... If I traumatised em by teaching em to be good rabbit hounds,, I wonder what telling em they are eating the Easter Bunny does to em :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:
  24. Your ex was a grocery cart:confused24: Man I am losing it here:backinmyday:
