Been in the business for so long Randy it is VERY difficult to separate inventory from keepers.. If I did do it it would be strickly business.. A brand new Ultra has a vastly broader scope of potential buyers than the WLA,,,,,,,, the WLA IS wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cooler though,,, plus the guilt thingy, yea... The potential "trade" would be done with someone who,, though very very wealthy, has a VERY patriotic background,, war veteran family and would be an excellent home for the bike.. It would, undoubtedly get no where near the ride time that it gets with me BUT would still be used in honor parades and the like,, we talked for quite a while about that.. Got an invite to a huge Veterans Memorial Rally in Kokomo Indiana couple days ago,, offer being if I bring the bike it wouldnt cost me anything for the week of camping... Apparently this shin dig is in September (perfect timing for Tippy and I,, we usually have our summer touring wrapped up by Sept 1 as the mountains get dicey) sometime.. Guy took my home phone and offered to call me and remind me of his offer later this summer.. IF I still have the bike, I plan on calling the previous owners son (who I bought it from) who was "Special Forces" in Nam and invite him to go with us to go down, attend the rally and "reclaim" his Dads bike for the week,, I would gladly just step aside and let him go with his comrades in arms... I told the guy who made the offer of that idea and he started crying (Vietnam Vet too),, said that would be soooooooo cool... Asked if I was Vet, told him no - just a simple lover of bikes who has enjoyed the freedoms so many have fought for.... You ever been to the Kokomo Rally Randy?? I know your a Vet,, way this guy talked it is AMAZING!! Havent googled it yet but gonna.. Puc

I have used Muratic Acid for many years,, stuff works FANTASTIC - especially on prepping badly rusted tanks!! Problem is ya gotta really make sure you get a good neutralizing when your done and get right with painting or whatever cause it rust back real fast!! THANK YOU Red for the suggestion of Grape Kool Aid - I will try it and let you know how it works for me!! Cant be anymore nasty to work with the Muratic Acid!! Thanks Puc

Soooo,, got a visit today from one of our local Harley Shop owners (guy smelled like $$'s - certainly didnt have that oil/grease smell that seems to follow me ).. Came by to take a peek at the WLA.. Offered me a new Street Glide straight up... Told him I couldnt do that and said I would consider a new Ultra Limited, closer to matching "book" values.. He went away .. Said he would let me know in a few days... Interesting day to say the least:backinmyday: Another day in the life of Puc

Nothin to it Money,, just gotta remove a few more items to get at it.. IMHO,, you hit the nail on the head (no pun intended - nail/flat tire) about handling a flat tire on the road,,, practice makes perfect for that moment in time when a flat happens!! If you can do a front, you can do a rear.. Up front info on the rear,, there is a washer/spacer on the axle that goes against the rear caliper mount,, remembering whether that goes against the swingarm or rear wheel is the hardest part of the whole project..

You make us PROUD D.G.M.!! Down right proud!! COPY/PASTED from the "Dang Tire" thread to follow ya here Midnight.. Now THAT brings up an interesting topic Midnight:scratchchin: Years ago I bought into a batch of cheap Michellin tires (yea, I know,, "cheap" and "Michellin" never went together so I shoulda known something was up) for the back of my KX500 M/X bike.. Brand new tire, go single trackin with some buds, guy behind me pulls up at a break in the action and says "I keep getting hit by hunks of rubber from your rear tire".. Took a look and I was literally missing over half the knobs on a brand new rear tire.. Have always wondered if there was something to the thought of tire manufactures sourcing out "seconds" or maybe even "thirds" and having them land in the hands of people like me tryin to ride on the "cheap"... If that is the case,, there is a really good chance that in my lifetime of destroying motorcycle tires, I have NEVER owned a "good" set of tires in my life:rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rot f::rotf: Another interesting thought on the tire subject... I gotta bud down the street who always buys the best of the best.. He buys some kind of multi-rubber tire for the rear of his 2010 Ultra Classic.. Suppose to be hard in the center (to fight wear) and soft on the outer (maintains good grip),, I know he paid a lot of money for his rear tire,,,, I think its a Dunlop,, but he has over 10k Michigan miles on it and it still looks great... Just a thought...

Sounds like your dealing with the same place that tried to sell me a 404 last year out at Moab - they wanted 230 bucks for a 404 (thought they had me,, rode to Richfield and got the same tire for $135ish (still got took but not quite so bad).. Here's am Amazon 404 [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-D404-Metric-Cruiser-Rear/dp/B0043Y77L4/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=07DWY86RPH5D41D178HC]Amazon.com: Dunlop D404 Metric Cruiser Rear Tire - 130/90H-16/--: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31%2Bc-euuz9L.@@AMEPARAM@@31%2Bc-euuz9L[/ame] 93 bucks free ship

I went thru a couple of 404's last year Snag,, I liked em but found they disappeared pretty quickly - 5 thou and they were gone (desert touring).. Handled the road real well though.. Like already mentioned,, if you can land an E3 do it,, much better wearing tire... On the same token though,, E3 is usually gone for me in 8,, if you can get the 404 for 1/2 price of an E3 and dont mind tossing on new tire at that 1/2 way point,, could work.... Just dont get caught like I did out in Utah and have to pay premium E3 price for a 404... I just picked up a Conti Tour for the front of my bike from Amazon for less than 1/2 price (60 bucks) SHIPPED - only took 1 day to get it here, might wanna check Amazon!! Its on,, cant wait to see how it wears!!! Running a 70 dollar new Metz on the back with it,,, we will see how that combo goes as soon as this winter is over...

Hi Brian If you are talking about the pan gasket and it were mine I would probably just go get some gasket material and, like you mentioned, trace it - outer edge first, cut it out - lay it in and mark the bolt holes , cut it with some shop scissors, punch the holes with a paper bunch or leather punch if ya got one.. I think the last time I bought gasket material I bought it from Ace Hardware but most auto shops probably have it.. I would get the thicker cardboard/paper material not the paper thin stuff.. After cutting/punching the gasket I would also get some permatex #2, squeeze it between my pointer finger and thumb, put the gasket between my fingers and make a nice even smear covering both sides of the gasket material.. I would clean both surfaces, pan and tranny, with carb cleaner and a rag so they are nice and clean, lay the gasket on the clean pan surface, start all the bolts making sure they all go thru their proper holes in the gasket and than tighten em down.. If you are talking about a tranny area that the gasket is part of setting precision clearances between bearings or whatever you will almost have to locate the proper gasket for it BUT, if all it is is the pan,,,, no problem doing as above.. Hope this helps a little.. Puc
