Driften around out here in southwest texas trying to break in our new stator (thanks again for everything bikerjohn and squidley) by exposing it to extreme extreme temps gave me an idea... I told tippy,,, ya know,, that there Squidley brother is pretty dog gone good with a wrench and I bet he is also a pretty good parts judge too... So I says,, what say we give that new stator the ultimate test and take it to the limit,, what da heck... So we catch a trade wind in that general direction... That direction being xsome of the harshest summer time environments in the U.S.A.,, Big Bend... we pretty much had the park to ourselfs although I swear I heard someone on the other side of the rio grande yell during the night. Speaking of aliens, we are headed for roswell to go alien hunting and I told tip that had about a 98 percent more chance of actually seeing one wading across the rio than landing in roswell... spoke to some boarder patrol guys while at the park and that substantiated that theory. saw a couple road runners, praire chickiins, an orange/copper colored snake while touring the park last night and today.. really desolate place this time of year,,, just the way I like it.. currently in comanche springs cooling off on the way to carlsbad cav, roswell.. Spoke with txsturgis yesterday about this Ural Rally thingy in NM.. He sent info about it, we may very well get caught up in that rabbit trail cause I get all geeky at the the thought a bunch of crazys on 2wd side hac rigs out having fun,,,,, gotta see whether or not we catch an alien space I guess... get out ride! Hi dave, never had the chance to ride one with the voyager kit. Always wanted to try one for kicks... seems like the application is more in line with the traing wheels concept than a trike app. I would be curious to know if the two outside rear wheels on that bike have independent suspention.. if it does, it seems like, because your still actuallly running on the center original wheel andsuspention, that it could be setup to ride with the same charectoristics as an actual motorcycle. Trikes are totally different. I have looked at a couple voyagered bikes and, if memory servesme corre tly, its a bolt on kit that is easily removed. Maybe a better option would be to keep your bike, buya kit and install it? Have seen those kits aroud for well under 2k. IMHO 4600 is to much money for an 85 with a voyager kit.. puc

Gorgeous rig there ghost! We are close to big bend np waiting for the temps to drop a little before hitting the park. High winds here to all day too, kinda reminds tippy of wyoming, close but no cigar really... I like the wind for that feeling of flight.. You folks hitting The Dalles rally? Would love to me you folks. Will keep an eye out for your bike, please do the same with ours.. real easy to spot now cause the stator cover is signed SQUIDLEY in blue ink, if you see one signed by him in anyother color its not us, Puc -
Indeed, welcome home rj! And thanks for your service to the cause of freedom. Hope to see you on the road in the future. Ride safe out there my friend,, its a different kind of war zone but, non the less,, it is one.. puc

Yea that.. Guess this means we gotta park our bikes on the 16th n walk bongo.... think I will ride a few xtras miles over the next few days and stick em in escrow....

Oppps,,, sorry never was much good with directions, more a ride by feel kinda guy... makes it hard too cause when someone asks how to get to something cool we saw while out chasing the wind, most of the time I haveno idea how to find it again... anyway,,, thatshould have read,,, north 50 miles, west 41 miles, north 82 miles west 41miles and so on,,,, kinda forming a zig zag line west by n8rth by northwest... whereever this little southwest texas town is that we arein right now it is 110 and beautiful riding,,,, in small doses...

I have used autozone a number of times too like mentioned about wally world. We are south of ya ghost, down near big bend np in texas. 110 right now, taking a break from the heat. I am very fortunate that tweeks, our 83 is so tired. It averages 1000 miles to a quart of oil so every 4k I have an oil change, never have to drain it..... wish i were closer....... puc

Beautiful texas nite here, gotta be 85, very dry air about 250 due west of san antone. Those are under left body side cover on 1st gens. The connector with 3 white wires going into it are the stator wires. Stock Connector is two blades side by side and one across. You look and see the terminal box getting brown from heat its time to replace. I should have hardwired those three wires instead of using a new connector back when I replaced it, hindsite 20 20. When squidley and I were putting it back together he offered to hardwire this time and I agreed. The connector that melted was not that old. Tweeks, my bike, has very minimal amp draw, use dialelectric spareingly on all my connectors, still failed. I am not sure on the second gens where the stator wires are in the harness. Squidley, or others will have two answer that, never worked on one. I am sure though that they do have a 3 phase system so it should be a simple matter of following the harness coming out from under the forward bevelgear bearing housing, probably be two harness sets there, trace the one you can feel 3 larger wires inside of.. it dont take much corrsion on that connector for heat to start.. I looked at mine before I left and it was fine, but,,, I believe I used to soft of a connector plastic wise when I put it together.. it was rated properly but some of these connectors coming from offshoremake me wonder.. tell ya one thing, if it fails again it wont be from 2 phase wires making contact,, that squidly,,,, he can wire ! mans its nice here, amazing how much drier the night air is than in san antone..... puc

Mine appeared to have been the result of using resistance at one spade on the stator harness terminal gettin hot n melting thru enough tocontact one of the other two wires. Stator was toast. Between bikerjohns and his wifes kindness and assistance and squidley and his wifes kindness and assistance tweeks is back on the road and doing greatl I have much more to write about the whole deal but it is hard on this tab... will say this, there are 4 texans out there now that I cant thank enough,, on my heros list! puc

Problem is, tippy has made it clear,,,, if we have a trailer we have to get a second gen.. now i am not opposed to getting one, my problem is I am not sure whether or not tweeks can handle a trailer with the 2nd gen on it as well as all the xtra clutch plates I will need to drag it all on a tour out in this heat.. not sayin,, just sayin:whistling: -

Hmmm,, you have no idea how accurate your obsevation is brian,,,, I thought I had everything covered, maybe even over packed a little. Then we dropped the landing gear in round rock texas, noticed my blinker was slow. Than noticed my volt read 11 volts. Coast ed into bk, ol tweeks died under the shade of a texas burger king. seems I should not have packed so lean and should have stuck a new stator in my maintenance department.. take that back,,,,,, if I would have I may not have had the honor of meeting up with and being helped by 4 more of ventureriders finest. wont spoil my future ride report with full details here but, will say that tippy and i got treated like royality! Heres a quick riddle for anyone who cares,,,,,, tweeks broke down and needed the touch, riding packed lean I had not that much, just when itlooked like we ran out of luck, here came a local texan with a big truck. Made a quick phone call to someone 3 hours away, now we are all friends and for sure will stay! 25 miles to the alamo! puc -

On this tablet, hard to type with this little pen . I have fat fingers... got lost in windy city, looked for a carlsburg, couldnt find no help from marcarl, he must have been sleepln. rode 57 down to avoid problems mentioned on 55. made down to to a small town in missouri called newburg on edge of mark twain national forest. Drove 2 tracks 8 miles into national forest. Found perfect camp spot over valley. 1 4x4 truck went by at 2am, gorgeous nites. Sleep. Rode bunch of route 66 out of missouri. Hopped on 44, toll road into okie was terrible boring so jumped on 69 down thru indian res. Muskogee is cool, mid okie has huge lake area for miles, indians loved the horns on tweeks. Met guy with blonde 83 on trailer. Looked like new. Told him of vr. He signed tweeks. Finally made it to texas, now in dennison. Folks are very nice here, most arefraid of tweeks. Hope I got road names right an in proper order, gettin tired:rotf: Its warm here, actually gettin my riding tan back, tippysdoing great. Bike loves the carb needle drop. Went to .068 on shim height, stock is .122. Perfect results for old tweeks. Getting kicked out of mcdonalds so must go. More in future. -
I had heard rumors (probably based on the warm weather we are having) that Flyingfool moved but had no idea he was so eager to crank things back up:stirthepot: Sorry you guys gotta put up with em! Wow, THAT is awesome!! Puc

BEAUTIFUL!! I have always appreciated the kind of folks who create stuff like that.... I have often thought about building a bike around a Diesel engine from the generator out of a Semi for a power plant.. For a moment I thought I was seeing that idea come true... THAT is a work of art Silvr, thanks for posting it up! Puc -
