  1. Hi phoneman,, tippy and I were passing thru that area today too and thought we saw the same thing.. I was fortunate that that Tip is quick with the camera, let me see if I can help you out here.... I am sorry you folks had to miss the rally! Hopefully we can meet IRL in the future! By the way, only believe half of the rumors you hear about things that went on up there, it has been suggested by several people that persons who were not present should run all rumors about VentureWest past myself for varification before passing them on.. reluctantly, I agreed to the task in order to maintain civility and truthfullness here in the watering hole. sincerely yours Puc
  2. Squidley, WE MADE IT! We are at THE DALLES IN OREGON and YOU ARE RIGHT HERE WITH US BROTHER! You KNOW your words go both ways my friend! I gotta find out whether these west coast pranksters pulled a scam on us or not, as of yet, our bike - tweeks belongs toyou too knowya know - is the only thing around here that even remotley looks like a venture! Love ya brother, give Lonna, pinks and brownie my love too! puc ummmmmmmmm,, cept that pan dude was fake,,,,, SQUIDLEY IS THE REAL DEAL!
  3. Every since I was a little kid people always told me howmuch like joey from thefamily circus I am.. come on, admit it, you arent that much younger than me, you gotta remember him... he wasthe one that hismom would send out for the news paper and you would see a pic of him getting sidetracked, thru the mud puddle, pet the dog, chasethebug, and two hours later.. any way, we keep getting sidetracked on our route to THE DALLES and VENTUREWEST RALLY.. after a very exciting evening in and around Klamath we finally put the landing gear down about5 miles north of there.. found a gorgeous little pull off, small streem, no NO camplng signs whichmeant we could camp.. woke up this morning with ICE on thebike! It was cold! I set about building a fire while tippy slept inthe warm sleepning bags,,, such a fineman am I.. noticed tweeks had developed the ability to leak antifreeze aroud the front drain valve, no panic though,, none of my previous 1st gens could hold thier alchohol when freezing either.. soon as the girl warmed up the leak was healed. Look carefully at pic oneandyou can see her spot.. also noticed that mt. Shasta had a Whole lot more smow on her than she did the night before!,, got side tracked again at newberry volcanic monument.. drove up to the cauldron, very steep but GORGEOUS VIEW! Surrounded by snow capped mountains, sharing life with my best friend tippy, smelling the good clean air fragranced by ponderosa pine,,,, nuff to make a grown man cry.. We are now about a 2hours from all your friends at THE DALLES,,,,,, UNLESS OF COURSE LITTLE JOEY HITS ANOTHER SIDE TRACK RABBIT TRAIL! Ride em if ya got em puc
  4. CONDOR!!!!!! Shoot guys,, I knew that and we arent even there yet... Sooooooooo coffey, what did ol pucster win this time? Hope its not snow for our morning up there! if I am wrong, and no body else wants it I will take it,,, promise I will take very very good care of it!
  5. Woe woe moderators,, talking about Weed as in the town of Weed,,, easy does it,, ol Puc aint no druggy,, cant change the names of these towns outhere ya know! So, before we left wilton ca this morning I had to get a new pair of riding boots.. my old ones were melted pretty bad from the hot tarmack in south west texas and Tipsaid they had a real strange odor to em.. I needed something that was light, agile, classy, a lil uncommon and make me look tough... the look tough part cause I dont carry my handgun while touring so I gotta depend on looks.. SCORED EM, SEE PICS! sitting in weedup to our eye brows right now. Hi everyone! Mount shasta is right outside of the window at mickydeeees I am looking out of! Unlike us, it really is high.. Quick note on finding Weed. One of the gangstas headed toward The Dalles venturewest rally leaked it out that a bunch of those elbows were meeting at a motel 6 in red bluff.. as we were going past red bluff, I pulled in, went inside a gas station and asked where the local 6 was at.. got directions.. tip asked whati wasdoing, isaid just follow my lead.. walked in and, with debonair and style only Puc possesses I convinced the clerk that I knew some folks thatmight be staying there tonight.. named acouple first names,, caught a glimps of the room names for the night n said thats them.. wrote a really nice message to them, addressed to VR riders... she seemed like a very considerate person, this clerk at motel 6 inred bluff.. she promised they would get it this evening... lets all wait in anxious anticipation while seeing if any of those fel fellerlers will acknowledge this existance of said note.. Beautiful country out here,, got a hunch its gonna do nothing but get prettier as we leave Weed behind.. oh yea, no time to tell you all about the pic with tippy, myself and the older guy in it but,, WOW, what a story.. stay tuned for the next installment.. give ya a hint,, he is a vet, rode a wla as a military police... Thanks for riding with us tippy n puc
  6. NAIL EM AGAIN TOM, NAIL EM AGAIN... AN BUST UP THAT WISCONSIN WHITE WASH WEATHER MACHINE TOO WILL YA...
  7. And bingo was his name...... Hurts me to even read storys like you just wrote money but the truth is, thats life... I sure can appreciate the outcome though! Sieze the day brother cause THATS livihn! puc
  8. Well,, here we go again,, chasing the wind.. was a good break but went by way to fast.. seems to always happen that way when your having fun.. gotta new sticker for tweeks today though, a real unexpected one. We had lunch at this place called Smack Pie in Lodi California.. place was awesome. The way it works is you get an 11 inch pizza and they put what ever toppings you want on it, build your own basically.. REALLY GOOD PIZZA! They had shirts with thier logo and I commented how much I wish I could get a stricker for my bike. Manager asked where we traveled from, I told her. She says, stay right there I got something for you. Came back with the coolest sticker.. her and the assitant manager signed it for us and wished us safe travels whever the road leads. Oils changed, tweeks purrs on the new 20,50.. tires at spec for air, mono holding a steady 78 pounds, brake pads all looking good, got new tire ordered from a place called JCCYCLE in irving ca and should be here at daughters when we return from Oregon, Washington touring, tents strapped on, jackets packed, tanks full and we are off to the VentureWest rally in the morning! Sure hope those west coast troublemakers can put up with us for a few days! I read somewhere that when hanging with that bunch ya gotta remove your seat and your battery and lock things up at night for some reason.. at this point its just a rumor but if there is any truth to it I WILL BE REPORTING FACTSVBACK HERE IN THE WATERING HOLE AS THOSE GOPHERS POKE THIER HEADS UP! Aint to worried about Tweeks cause she has a way of taking care of herself, last guy that messed with her ended up with a mixture of grease and red georgia clay all over him that I am sure he is still trying to get off. Its actually Tip I am most concerned with.. I pitty the person that gets caught causing her to either hhave to hitch hike or push the bike very far! Last time that I was responsible for either of those I woke up with a really funny looking haircut, my bald spot had moved down onto my neck... No idea what The Dalles area in oregon is like as far as puter service, hopefully we will be sending pics and word up as the rally proceeds but if we dont it doesnt mean we arent having the time of our lives... besides, being that far from roswell I gotta hunch the threat of abduction is over so those hoping to be rid of us permanently is a lost cause.. You folks back in the artic circle of which we call home, I am sending a heat wave your way. Shiuld last at least thru the 4th.. Let it go FLYINGFOOL, LET IT GO! Puc
  9. and we sure do some goofy, crazy things... Gotta go with the "God has a sense of humor" crowd... Got lots of Prayers Up time in while working on da kids pw80.. Lord and thanks for the double dose of patience ya granted that grandson while helping me work on his bike..
  10. Now that would be fun Neil,,, aint never got no chance to spin a wrench on one of them new fang dangled jobs... Goofy things probably got zerks on it just to ruin all our fun.... Hey,,, didnt I read that one of the guys,, Condor maybe,, anyway,, someones coming with a truck full of tools, air compressor and all the good stuff?? Lets start with the swingarm and than check the crank bearings just for kicks ol buddy.... Get gramps going and ya never know what you might end up riding home!!!:rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf: Sounds like I better give that Squidley a call to for warn em,,,, me and Squidley,, we make a great team,, I tear em up and he shows me how to fix em :rotf:Keep an eye on them two dogs, Pinkie and Brownie though... They didnt pee on ol Tweeks but a real pretty bike like yours Neil,,, I am pretty sure that them hounds would see the need:backinmyday: I feel like I am stuck in that old Johnny Cash song: I see the rally coming,, shes coming round the bend - man I aint felt the saddle since I,, dont know when,,, I'm stuck down here in Elk Grove and time keeps DRAAAAGIN on,,,,, but I am glad I made it out of Texas,, and not back in San Antone
  11. Or,,,, that Harley Dealer got high book on the Harley too so he dont have to worry about paying bills for good while...Ooooops,,, gotta stop that,, back in the dog house for ol Pucster:whistling:
  12. DITTO + WORD BROTHER!!!!!! I am totally in tune with these Speaker BUT,, there is a handlebar steering manuver that has actually saved my life a couple times.. Try this,, on a nice open stretch of highway get up to speed,, say 65 mph, lightly hold your grips in your hands so your kinda going no handed (I steer with my knees and go no handed a lot out on the open road but aint gonna even suggest doing something that stupid on here).. Now lightly press on the inside of the grip on your left side and see what happens.. Learn to use your new discovery!! You will find that you are now able to, in a millisecond, switch lanes - avoid potholes - avoid deer - avoid fallen riders and on and on, with just a bump on your grip!! All that being said,,, this does not equate into smooth cornering,, there is nothing like tossing down on the throttle, steering with knee pressure and throttle contol while your bars bow to the motocross track/ice/flat track clay or pavement.. and then the feeling of a controlled cross over slide,,,, nuff of that,, adrenaline goin...
  13. 400 bucks and I will assume all responsibility for how it does or doesnt handle in the corners......
  14. Boy,,, I dont know,,, thats a ways to travel for us ol geezers on the other side of the state,, hmmmmmmmmm.... We get home in time from screwin around out here on the road we will do our derndest to make it Raggy!!! Then I get to see that 69 of yours right??? Oh yea,, gotta ask,, any of you yahoo's over yonder got a spot a grass we can drop a tent on for a couple hours sleep or is that area pretty much covered in crete now adays?
  15. +2!! Me and Fool,, we know,, ya just cant be to careful when it comes to knockin off dirt!! YamaDuck,, this site and the members here never cease to amaze me,,, been reading this thread and you done got a good bit of great info going here!!! Happy belated Fathers Day to you too!! Puc
  16. those wiki people dont know nuttin bout frogs n toads brian.. the BIG difference, as all us knowledgable frog people know, is you can EAT frogs and days down right liscious,, toads on the other hand,,,,,,, well,,,, ya can eat them too butbthey taste really weird...... nice mower,, honda builds some great stuff! BROTHER, FOR A MINUTE THERE I THOUGHT THE URAL WAS A GONER AND YOU WERE MOVED ON TO SOME NEW FANGDANGLED HONDA POWERED DUNE BUGGY OR SOMETHING! Be careful teasin us ol timers ya whippersnapper,,, some of us have weak hearts ya know....
  17. Nope Theres a significant routine that I am finding myself in these days in dealing with my oldest grandson.. it goes something like this,, gramps is coming I better get busy and break something on my dirtbike so he and I can fix it, gramps shows up, fixes the bike, tells the grandson he wants to see em ride it now, grandson shakes his head no and informs gramps that he forgot to inform gramps that the back brake,, she no work.. gramps smiles and says I bet we dan fix it. With gramps bike lift back in michigan being to heavy to carry on his motorcycle all the way to california, a method for lifting the bike up for repairs must be found.. gramps suggests we hang the little feller,, the bike not the kid ya bunch of copperheads,, from a tree. the california relatives get some more needed insight into how this old man thinks,,, the nut house draws closer.. gramps finds out in short order that california clay drys hard as a rock, like some of the midwest clay he remembers from his harescramblin days of years ago. Gramps smiles as he digs the impacted clay out from the wheel, removes it and begins digging the stuff from around the INTERNAL brake assembly! Once again, ol puc, the grampa in this case, smiles as he remembers how many times he had to go thru this exact same scenario on his 69 250 enduro and also on his brand new 1973 honda 250 elsinore after a long day of racing many years ago... only difference was, gramps was smart enough to not let the stuff harden like steel before he tried to remove it... the grandson taps his grandpa on the shoulder and asks what he is thinking about.. gramps looks at his grandson and says,, I was thinking how much I wish I would have had a grandpa that would fix my bike with me like you do Deadeye (thats my nickname for him). Now nock some more of that clay off that swingarm will ya.......
  18. gotta say here bee,, this is only our third year of team tippy and puc doing this motorcycle touring together.. I did it with my kids when they were young likevyours, we have 4 all grown and living on thier own now.. the kids could tell you story after story of cross country touring with thier dad, east coast to west,, the really sad part of that is tippy always stayed home with 3 while I bonded with 1, she is an amazing woman! We did a LOT of motorhoming too as a family, in my own defense here, but tippy really really wanted to bike travel too. After raising 4 kids her and I have an agreement, the bike dont leave the garage without her on it! Enjoy thevspecial age of those kids NOW bee! The stuff you get to do after they are grown and gone will come. One thing to remember,, mtou can nevervget the young years of the kids back, grab every minute of every day with them.. and than when you get to the time when you and your lovely wife are alone again, as in our shoes, aapply the same rule cause ya never know when it will be over... purposely build memories cause they wont build themselves! Outsstanding advice randy, thank you! and glad you are enjoying my ramblings brother!
  19. Ohhhhh yea! When ya get to the bottom of the spear fish canyon ride you will come to a great big beautiful lodge. It is sitting on a bend in the road and has a wo track that veers to the right in front of the lodge. If you look closely at the side of that two track you will see a sign that says waterfalls, I think its less than 5 miles into that two tracck is where the falls are, they are gorgeous! If you follow that two track after the falls, camp 15 miles in you will hear elk bugling all night, awesome.. then stay on the two track,, a few miles of quad trailing and you will come across a small, 2x2 sign that says, wyoming state line,,,, keep going and you will come out no more than 20 miles from devils tower. Hooked up with a major in the rangers who had just gotten home from his second tour of duty from iraq out in sturgis a few years ago. He was riding a brand new harley with less than 2k miles on it, long story but we became best friends after I met him out there that year. Long story short, he followed me thru all those two tracks on a brand new harley, camped and played all week with me and said it was the best riding he had ever experienced on a motorcycle! The scenery and riding was spectactular! Once again, not the place for towing a trailer BUT certainly a really great day ride if your already camped at sturgis and want to escape the madness of the crowds.. personnaly,, I could spend a whole summer in those mountains and the only sadness I would have is leaving them. Later his new harely cleaned up just like new again,, ya dont have to worry about destroying your bike on this one! puc
  20. brian,, THAT is awesome! Gotta give ya a salute for a job well done! Most definitly hasme scratching my head in thinking about its applicati8n to our ride style,, most definitly has merit forfuture consideration myfriend. Thanks q zillion for sharing the pics and info.. NOPE, I HAVE NOT!!!! WOW DOI LIKE THELOOKS OF THAT!!! Bill, is the lower trunk mounted on a receiver platform? I really like carrying our tent with the sleeping bags, 3/4 foam, pillows all laid out, folded in half ane rolled up. Thats the bulk I carry on my rear carrier. Its really not as heavy as it appears but it is bulky.. I have been doing this years cause it allows for very fast setup/teardown time.. after a 16 hour day of riding I can literally pull into a field, parking lot, walmart,, whatever and within 5 minutes be sawing logs,, no joke.. With very little tweekin I think you could b3 on to something that would actually make off roading a venture even easier.. I have an 87 with decent glass at home.. I may very well glean from your idea,, but do some tweekin to make it fit our needs.. I could see actually removing my rear trunk, build a backrest for tippy to lean on and then placing the tent/bag roll directly behind her where the trunk now is.. than taking the 87 trunk (bigger than the 83). Mount the 87 trunk as you have suggested. I definitly see a much lower center if gravity on that trunk and carring heavier objects in that rear trunk would actually add to off roading capabilitys.. I REALLY LIKE WHAT YOU DID BILL! Thank you for sharing your creation, it is really appreciated! puc
  21. Raising to 250.. and you keep the trailer
  22. Yea,,, a day for us dads to get it all in perspective,, there things in life that are totally separate page of importance than even bikes.. what a privelage to have children to brighten our days.. Jeff, sorry to hear about the lack of contact with your 3. Cant be fun.. maybe take the bull by the horns and try to contact them just to say hi.. tough stuff but I guess thats why we have a special day for us dads,, being one is not an easy task... puc
  23. WOW! Be sure and tell your brother ol puc says CONGRATS! THAT IS ONE GORGEOUS MOTORCYCLE! I was telling the wife not to long ago how surprised I was that we hadnt seenn1 new indian on our fwhole trip out and then BAM,, WE GOT TO RIDE INTO THE NORTH RIM OF THE GRAND CANYON WITH A GROUP OF THEM! Theybare truely beautiful!
