  1. Just for clarification Don and certainly NOT to be a smarty pants,, should we also cut the chatter about buying and selling in the Watering Hole? I know we have had lots and lots of chatter about so and so selling this and that, that may be the kind of activity that makes people feel like "double posting" or just posting in the Watering Hole gets them better exposure.. Should "I am looking for,,,,," chatter be handled the same way? Not trying to add to your burden my friend,, YOU have a very tough job and are the bestest ever boss we could ask for,,, just wanna make sure we are all on the same page.. Thanks for keeping the site organized and very well ran! Personally, I LOVE our site just the way it is in design and organization and think removing the other sections would be nothing but chaos!! Sorry for the frustrations we caused you and and THANK YOU for straightening us out!! Puc
  2. ANOTHER WINNER AND A BONUS ICE CREAM CONE FOR MYSELF!! You did read the rules didnt cha EUSA? and another,,, ya know,, I must be the only one with pictures of VR members... Here we go...
  3. always gotta be a fly in the ointment,,, rats.... OK, I am a sucker and always playing against the odds,, that word "may" is not the same as "will".. Hugger said the basic concept has already been successfully done with the upgraded tci so we know it can be done.. I wonder if anyone has actually tried and blown the original TCI,,, just how close to the edge is the load, can the resistance issue be caused by small wiring leading to the coils and can that wiring be changed to a larger wire size or simply control the load on the tci with a resistor,,, come on,, you elctronic wizards,, think here,,, help us 1st Gen riders out...
  4. :dancefool::thumbsup2::clap2::clap2: Its people like you Larry that keep us 1st Gen lovers miling and smiling! YOU DA MAN! Puc
  5. and we have a WINNER!! and chur prize is a GARGANCHUAN (I think thats a word but I have no idea how to spell it) THANK YOU for being willing to play the game Rable!! I also think we shall name this game "RABLE" in honor of you being so thoughtful!! I will see if I can edit the title of this thread!! Indeed Coff! Addendum written into the game rules reads,, "any VR member guessing the time and place said picture was taken shall result in bonus points given to COWPUC in the amount of 100 points per correct guess, for each accumulation of 100 points the said guesser shall be willing to purchase COWPUC an ICE CREAM CONE to be redeamable at any VR Rally that the two friends happen to meet at"... That what ya had in mind Coff:bighug: No,, no,, no, no... Well,, wait a minute here.. Maybe,, maybe your right... Hmmmmm,, he did laugh like Santa,,, smiled like santa,, sure liked ice cream like ol santie... Ya might be right Dan O',, I wonder if Condor really is Santa Clause.. Knock it off Bongo,, you got a nice bike already.. Well,,, since no one else wants to post a pic up to keep this game going I will do another... Keep in mind,,, I have over 12000 pics of VR folks and am willing to play the game alone if I have to,, may get boring and one of those lowly moderators may kick me off the site but I will take the chance... In this pic we are guessing the person on the blue trike.. Double bonus points for the person guessing time and place:rotf:
  6. Lets and get to know each other, put up a pic and see if we guess who we are,, who they are, you get the point , and herrrreeee we go....
  7. Just hadda an epiphany cause of you Hugger,,, leave the OEM's, reroute the wires, make a new add on harness if ya have too and stick the COP's on.. No idea if its possible but what da heck,,, this is an "open round robin" right?
  8. So are we praying for both Skid AND his new Harley?? Ok,, this is plain weird,, I just jumped on here after coming back from sitting in the car having Prayers Up for Skid while waiting for Tippy to go into Walgreens to get her "free" tea!! Prayers Up!!
  9. Oh man,,, wish it was earlier in the season,,, LOTS of great deals out there on left over new bikes a few months ago.. Lets see,, what would I do,,,, buy a nice 1st Genny for a few hundred bucks and take the rest of the cash and TOUR THE COUNTRY :rotf: cant believe I said that... Buy a bike to get by on and wait till off season and buy a new left over and work the deal so the dealership that I bought the left over from would put my "get by bike" on their floor when the ride season started back up, thats what I'd do.. THAN I would take my brand new left over RSV and commence to wearing that puppy out!!! Seriously Mike, sounds like the insurance company is treating ya good! Sorry to have heard about your accident but glad your OK brother! Like Coff, I too will be keeping an eye open for you around here,, ya NEVER know what might pop up!! If I find that super deal here locally you could fly in to GR, I will pick ya up and house ya while we get that puppy ready for ya to cruise on home on! AND,, may take a little sweet talking on my part but I could probably talk Tippy into her and I following ya west a ways just to make sure that new bike is road worthy!
  10. WORD,, or in geezer language,, DITTO, or in suthen lingo, SEE YA'LL THERE, or in RANDYS dialect, DONT FORGET THAT GORGEOUS BLONDE 1st GEN CAUSE DEM DARE 2nd GENS and HD'S ARE GETTING THICKER THAN WARTS ON A HOGS BACK, or in my manner of speakin, WHAT DA HECK WHAT DA HAY - ROLLINS IS COMIN NOW I GOTTA GO!!
  11. Wow Randy,, THANK YOU for the invite and the kind thoughts! And THANK YOU for understanding my thoughts on the bike,,, it sure aint that I wouldnt LOVE to undertake that project but it really does come down to some kind of common sense (something I am told I lack at times ).. Speaking of common sense,, you might wanna reconsider on the "motivating others" idea with Tip an I showing up.. After I crawled under the tables at the gorgeously catered dinner at Cousins Resturant at the VentureWest Rally I thought I heard some giggling from innocent bystanders and Tippy told me I was lacking in manners,, cute,, but lacking in manners.. Later in the month I held my very first Meet and Greet in Elk Grove California.. Knowing how much everyone on here likes ice cream, I chose to really do up my first Meet and Greet royally and to have it at a top notch ice cream parlor named Leatherby's.. I invited well over 12000 members here on VR to attend and noticed right away that the count was less than expected and, of the ones that did show up, Tippy and I were the only ones on a motorcycle.. Tippy said she thought they chose to cage it cause they thought they may need a quick get away and that the low turn out was probably due to people noticing my bad manners back at The Dalles.. While I still enjoyed my Banana Nut Ice Cream thoroughly, I tend to be thick skinned when it comes to ice cream, and I did notice that EasyRiders 6 year old son sitting next to us enjoyed himself too, I was still kinda shocked at the folks who didnt at least come out for ice cream no matter who was actually hosting the gathering.. Bottom line,, Not sure your ploy will be successful.. Matter of fact, it may backfire on ya and end up being just you, Linda, Tippy and I toasting Somores and eating ice cream around the camp fire brother!! But,,, its your call..... Check your calendar and notice ya got us down for a definite maybe... Next time ya go past that campground where your gonna be camping please put a 7x5 foot X in the corner of your site and write "PUC" across the top of it,, if ya wanna put a little cross over it and make it look like a grave thats ok - we could pull a little trick on some of these VR folks and make em think they are coming to my funeral,, dont laugh,, may get a better turn that way.. Also,, ya might wanna make sure its downwind of you,, last time we slept in the tent I think the tent ate a pair of my socks. It has been having indegestion and I noticed it smells funny.. Also, if my friend YammerDan decides to show up, would you mind making sure he parks his 2nd Gen next to our tent,, I heard he uses his bike to rope his tent up to and I may need to borrow his bike for the same purpose.. That 2nd Gen of his should have the parts that I will need to make the tranny change on my next 1st Gen right? He wont mind if I borrow em,, I will just toss an old gearset with second gear missing out of one of my ol parts bikes into his while you keep em busy eating,, he will never notice cause I hear he doesnt get out of 1st gear on his new bike anyway.. Really look forward forward to seeing you guys again Randy, riding those gorgeous mountains down yonder and having you show us around to some of those hidden best riding places.. Like I was saying before,, its a ways off for us to totally commit but we will do what we can to make it happen!! GET THOSE INDIANS DOWN THERE TO START THE SUNDANCING NOW WILL YA? IT WORKED FOR LONE EAGLE FOR THE VENTUREWEST RALLY!! WE RODE THAT WHOLE TRIP WITH VIRTUALLY NO RAIN, save some sea mist going into Portland while heading to St. Helens!! DANCE BABY DANCE!! Puc
  12. CONGRATS ON THE NEW BIKE MECH!! Gotta admit,, those wings are GORGEOUS!! PLEASE dont forget those pics,, lifes to short not to get to look at pics! Ya know, this kinda concerns me though cause if this keeps up the only place a person is gonna get to see a RSV equipped with a cassette player is setting next to a 1st Gen on a museum floor. Terrible,, just terrible:backinmyday: Heyyy,, wait a minute here,, I am forgetting about supply and demand and all that stuff.. Hmmmm,, maybe those ol Ventures will start appearing at my favorite clothing store,, Goodwill, with everybody jumping ship.. Than, we die hards can tell our wifes we are going to look at clothes and come home with a couple of 1st Genners and a 2nd Gen purchased at half price cause they had a green sticker on em.. :rotf: All kidding aside,, I wish you nothing but the best with your new bike and nothing but the best in selling your Yam Mech!! Oh,, dont even think about leaving the site,, you WILL be hunted down and flogged for even thinking such a thing! Puc
  13. Huh,,, I always pictured you working at watchin the warden work,, that can be down right exhausting watching someone else work... Oh well,, I must have confused you with someone else..
  14. ROCK AND ROLL HELL YEA!!:cool10:
  15. Yamagrl,, I thought that was an AWESOME read!! You are an amazing person to tackle an undertaking that a lot of people would deem undoable!! YOU GO GIRL :happy65: Amazing, just amazing!! Spinning wrenches is fun BUT it can get overwhelming,, stay focused, believe in yourself (as you obviously do) and you will end up with something really special!! Best wishes! Puc
  16. Thank you Randy for the info! Makes PERFECT sense! While not math minded like a lot of folks on here, I can certainly see where those numbers add up to a VERY special back roading 1st Gen! It would be GREAT to have a lower 1st gear to putt around thru the bushes with AND,,, ol Tweeks wouldnt know how to act without me short shifting her past second.. After thinking about it all night though I kinda come to the conclusion that I may wanna wait until Tweeks has rolled her last roll and I am blessed with my number 6 1st Gen before considering the project.. Tweeks has well over 200k on her (speedo died in Texas on this last trip at 244560 miles) and is getting very tired throughout.. While she does run good, she makes a lot of strange noises and groans and I would hate to put the time and effort into doing something cool like we are talking and than go a couple thousand miles and have a crank snap or something.. Now,, about that invite down there,, while its way to early for us to make a decision,, got those 4 kids pulling tricks on us all the time - we may end up back out in Sac this summer, WE CERTAINLY WOULD LOVE SEEING YOU FOLKS AGAIN!! I will let you know when we get closer to that time frame!! SOUNDS LIKE FUN!! Love ya bro! Puc
  17. WOW!! OUTSTANDING READ, GOOD ON YA YAMAGRL!! May that bike of yours carry you many many enjoyable miles and the wind always be at your back!! This place never ceases to amaze me! Puc
  18. This went to second page,, not on my watch,,, Prayers Up!!
  19. Oh,by the way,, Tweeks is not a true Blonde, only her side panels are Blondies (from my 1st 1st Genny back in 87),, those panels have close to a million miles on em so she wears em with pride.. Her true colors,, seems like I just answered that for VentureFar,, is a Heinz 57 Maroon, Black and Blonde:confused24:
  20. WOW,, thats heavy my friend.. Hmmm,, I was just yakkin with Tip about it. Looking at dates and noticed it would cost us Sturgis this year BUT with you upping the ante like that,,, wow Rand,,, ya SURE ya wanna do that? Aint cha gonna be a little busy during that time frame?? Think that thru very carefully,, change of minds are ALWAYS not a problem in our relationship my friend!! Of course,, you would also be willing to sign, in permanent signature and on exterior parts that you had your fingers on Tweeks right?? Hey,, it aint that bad,,, Squidley did it and as far as I know he is still alive, has all his fingers and is still welcome on the site.. Would it be allowable for me to purchase the Vmax drive and have it shipped down to you? Really sounds like fun ya lop eared gearhead!! Anyone interested in what Randy is talking about us doing to poor ol Tweeks may wanna pay attention to his anwser to these following questions,, unless ya already know all this stuff, which I KNOW lots of you do but which I DO NOT.. Randy,, give me another synopsis of what we will end up with if we do what you are talking about.. Gear ratios, affect on cruising speeds vrs R's at those speeds (havent you done this already to your bike?), fuel economy, low gear crawling ability and the like.. What extra stuff should I purchase and send your way to complete the build,,, bottom end gasket kit, new u-joints, seals,, maybe forward gear bearings, tranny bearings?.. Randy, Tweeks complete exhaust system is a disaster blend of brazing, wire feed goobers and holes.. If we did this I should go ahead and see if I can find a decent collector and header pipes for her too.. Than there is the question of her clutch.. I have NEVER had a good a clutch in ANY of my 1st Gens,, by that I mean a clutch that would actually stay engaged in high gears, loaded with two up and nailed at 5 grand,, any thoughts from your experiences on the guarenteed fix for that as long as we are gonna open er up? Probably oughta let you decided if you REALLY want to do this and if so, I will put together a quick build sheet of what I need to purchase and take a look at costs.. Seriously folks,, out of all the 1st Gens I have owned and allll the miles we have piled on em I aint NEVER opened one up! Lots and lots of other bikes, trannies, clutches, cranks, heads, cams, valves and on and on but NEVER a Yam V-4.. I have always bought em cheap, rode the life out of em and bought the next one,, pretty much 100% all went to rest with well over 200k on em too.. I ride em cause I get tired of working on bikes all the time.. These Yammers are the most durable, fair priced, fun lovin motorcycle ever known to man! This could be interesting Rand! On the same token my friend,, even if nothing comes of it,, THANK YOU FOR THE OFFER!! Your a real keeper my friend! Puc
  21. YOOOO,, RUFFY,, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YA MY MAN! I would have made ya a really cool card like MAMA did but Tip is hoggin da laptop an this tablet is a pain in the carb jets.. thought that counts one for me will ya? Puc
  22. Heyyyy,, that come with an offer to camp on your site Randy? BEFORE YA ANSWER THAT CHA MIGHT WANNA CHECK WITH JAMIE N MISTY, or more recent references,, BikerJohn and CMCoffey as any of them may advise you otherwise.. Bottom line my friend,, not ALL entertain in life is welcome nor healthy entertainment:rotf:
  23. IMHO, more likely than not, as already mentioned, you have a small air leak in your exhaust system somewhere. It doesnt take much air being drawn in to create a combustion.. if the pipes check good, blow a little smoke around em and watch for movement in the smoke, a good tune up may help alot. With part of the tune up being a carb diaphram check up, intake manifold check, wires and plugs, air filters, carb sync, choke mechanisms checked and maybe a valve clearance checkup.. lots of things can cause it.. Let you in on a little declassified info.. Tweeks, our 83, has had the big boom thingy going on for a very long time.. I prefer to call it Tweeks Anti Cell Phone Device instead of a Backfire though.. She has this very very nasty habit of pulling up to the drivers windows where clearly the cager is in deep conversation on a cell phone or, worst yet, looking down and texting and just at the precise time,, KAAAABOOOM! Cantankerous old thang that Tweeks can be.. Oh yea,, she likes doing this when a car is sniffing around her pipe outlets to close, in tunnels, bridge over passes, teenagers who wave and people who point and laugh at er too..... She has developed some nasty habits in her old age, hopefully your bike just needs a gasket and is not coppin an old age attitude brother! Puc
  24. GOOD ON YA ECK AND CONGRATS ON GETTING TO SEE YOUR KIDS AGAIN (his wife is your kid too now ya know)!! Our children and their lives are on a totally different than motorcycling,, as fun as it is,, can EVER be!! Tippy and I are on the same wave link as you are talking brother!! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and hope you completely enjoy the special time you have been blessed with to be with them!! Sieze every minute with em Eck!! You made my day reading what you wrote in this thread! The main reason Tippy and I came home from our recent bike trip when we did was cause our youngest daughter, in her mid 20's, has been sick with some high temps.. She's an adult BUT we were both very concerned with her health.. We have friends that thought we were crazy,, Tippy wanting to come home and feed her chicken soup and all.. To us, parenting doesnt end just cause they become adults!! They are our children forever and when away from them, especially as long as you have been, YOU REALLY REALLY miss them!!!!! Bless you folks! Puc
