  1. Ol Murph catch up with ya brother? Hope all is well and you got him straightened out!!
  2. :rotf: Heyy,, wait minute,, those V-Rods run pretty dog gone good... Funny though,,, I gotta hunch they would have been really BAD TO THE BONE if they would have included another 2 cylinders!! :cool10:
  3. I cant help but wonder if they meant to state it in inch pounds,,, for some reason that sounds heavy to me Prairie.. It sure dont take much to over squish that seal...
  4. Knockin down hornets nest - got Prayers Up!!

    Holy Crap

Karl,, that sounds like no fun what so ever!! Thankfully it sounds like your getting to the bottom of it all!! Really hope and pray you get to feeling better now! Puc
  6. Now that is fact Bill! I too have been approached while traveling to join other "groups".. I always respond with, I am a member of VentureRider.org and very very happy with our "family". It just dont get no better.. Plus, until I can find a way to be in several places at once - I cant imagine being involved elsewhere.. Fortunately I havent ran into that person who talks down our family yet (knock on wood), its usually the other way around - stuff like - "oh yea, I have heard of that site and it sounds like a fun place" or "I will have to check you guys out".. Of course,, being a Harley lover too (its in my nature - I LOVE all motorcycles and the people that ride em) and really enjoy going out to the Sturgis Rally and the like, I am careful about suggesting that those hard core Harley guys/gals think of joining us (specially while they are pointing and laughing at Tweeks).. Now, thanks to Don, I can send em to TouringHogs.com and maybe, just maybe, get a chance to see em again in a few years when we have that great big "YamaHar International Rally"
  7. :rotf: Actually, that "pile" is my "camping department" - it wouldnt be right to put "maintenance supplies" there.. Left bag is "health n beauty aids" - no way Tip would allow it there.. Trunk is "mens and womens clothing" - NO WAY would that pass.. Right bag is the "maintenance Department" - filled to the brim with waterpump, fuel pump, hoses, tie wraps, tools, tape, old wires, fuel line, rags and hand cleaner..... Maybe I could duct tape the dog gone thing on the windshield:rotf:
  8. Ya gotta wonder what effect quantity of bikes sold has on these stats.. I am no numbers guy but it does seem that the more bikes by a certain manufacturer there are out there the higher the chances of complaints of problems. This interests me cause I know Harleys sales numbers gotta be HUGE compared to Yam and I am certain that Honda's Wing sales gotta be up there too.. Maybe that has something to do with both Harleys numbers and Honda's numbers being above Yam's, lets face it - not everyone appreciates our love for cassette decks and carbs:rotf:.. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE our bikes but I know that HD has come a long way's and those 2009 to 2012 years included some of their best in improvements.. And I dont remember hearing anything but good on the Wings of that period.. There Boss,, hows that for sucking up,, hope that moves me down the list at least a little ways... Dont know what I would do without my family here!!
  9. Pete, this one would definitely require the wheel to be off the bike and laying on a flat surface.. Scott
  10. Hey B, never owned or worked on a 2nd Gen but it sounds like a wet TCI connector.. Maybe just wet plugs plugs too.. Maybe a night to dry out will help, one of my favorite sayings is - things always look better in the morning.. If not, pull the plug terminals off the tops of the plugs and, blow em out and squirt em with WD-40 if ya can first.. If this dont help, pull the connector on the TCI (PAIN ON A 1ST GEN - NOT SURE WHERE THE TCI IS LOCATED ON A 2ND GEN) and dry it out, if you happen to have, or can get some dielectric grease - make a light smear on the connector to the TCI before snapping it back together - not heavy buy enough to help seal it - if it were mine I would then coat up the wires leading into the back of the TCI harness... Hopefully someone with more knowledge about your bike will respond!! Will be watching to see how this comes out! Sorry ya got caught in the rain! Puc
  11. Well, I gotta say, I am very impressed with the Full Bore tire I stuck on Tweeks before leaving Sacramento a while back.. It performed its duties very well, handled the mountain twisties of Glacier just fine, made it thru temps well above 100 degrees, put up with some pretty rocky two tracking and came thru a major pothole collision at speed in flying colors.. Personally, I would have NO problem going Full Bore again!! Kudo's to Full Bore! While I dont have an actual mileage for it - speedo went boing way back in Dennison TX, I will say that the west coast has always been a two tire trip for me no matter what I run and, IMHO, the Full Bore fit right into the normal zone.. While the new Metz 880 that I stuck on the back just before we left for Texas did seem to last a little better in the desert heat, the Full Bore didnt chunk out at the end of its life like the Metz did,, I am with Squid - Metz wont get another chance unless absolutely necessary (gotta leave room for those OH NO times).. Amazing to me cause the Full Bore was almost 1/2 price of the Metz.. For my next new tire here I grabbed a Michelin Commander. Mounting of it today went fine except for the examination of the valve stem seal showed a crack in the outer edge.. When replacing the stem I got thinking about a recent thread I had read about someone having a flat and accident due to valve stem failure.. Over the years of swapping out tires I have noticed at times, an over tightening of the stem nut resulting in damaging the seal of the valve stem.. While I am NOT suggesting that this is what happened in the recent accident associated with a failed valve stem, I have seen it numerous times thru the years. I am including a vid here that I made addressing this bad habit.. Hope it helps someone.. The little 15 dollar bead breaker I picked up from Harbor Freight a couple years ago is still working outstanding!! Gotta figure out a way to carry it on the bike - it sure beats the sledge hammer and wedge I used in California!! The Conti Tour I stuck on the front before we headed west this spring is doing GREAT!! Wearing like iron and it has really been thru the paces!! Kudo's to Conti too! Hope ya'll are having as much fun as Tippy and I are wearing out tires! Puc
  12. Good one Midnight! :rotf::rotf: I am with you,,, aint no way I could have passed that up either!!
  13. Was probably someone who bought a new 2nd Gen and had one of these smarty pants VR members with their old 1st Gen's (to many on here to even guess who it was) blow by em and was to busy hanging on to his bike to wave.... Nope,,, couldnt have been that,, cause that dont constitute a bullcrap story....:rotf: Met the wrong VR member at the right time... Hmmmmmm,, bullcrap,, bull poo poo,, who deals in bull poo on here.. Heyyyyy,, wait a minute here,, I think I met a bunch of those Star folks not long ago.. Seemed like really nice people to me,,, hmmmm,, maybe there is something to your question there Snarley..
  14. 2nd picture in on the top row, look at the guy with the beard sitting down just to the left of the shoulder of the guy standing up... Sure looks like LoneEagle to me BUT,, I could be eatin crow again too,,, its ok if so - I am getting to really like crow!!
  15. I know Gary,, I know,,, that love for gets the best of me sometime:rotf:
  16. Hey Don, was there any discussion with your Harley shop about the removal of the converter and affect, if any, on your warranty? If it had no affect on your warranty, did your Harley shop have to do the work to keep the warranty going? Also, concerning the heat that you guys are talking about,,, Tip and I have test rode several of the new HD models and have had on a number of occasions, experienced the "rear cylinder shut down mode" on them.. I am sure yours is equipped with such, do you find this "mode" to help with the heat issue compared to your Evo? I follow you on the "never being sensitive to heat on bikes" thought.. My 78 Lowrider LOVED the desert and I loved riding it out there.. Problem now is I havent been a solo rider for years,, like I was back then... How does your wife, as passenger, feel about the difference between the two (RSV/Harley)? REALLY enjoying this thread! Thanks for posting it up Don!! Puc
  17. Old Timers disease INDEED Dingy!! I KNOW I see LoneEagle in one of those pictures and I suspect that picture had to be at a VentureWest Rally.. Aint no mistaken that LoneEagle!!!
  18. CONGRATS!!! Let us know if we need to start watching for that 07!!
  19. WOW GS - GLAD YOUR OK BROTHER!! I hate having flat tires, specially on motorcycles!! My guess,, and its ONLY a guess (dont spend the money on another bike based on this), is between 2800 and 3400 if its the Royal Star, 3100 to 3700 if it the Royal Star Touring Classic... I have friends who have totaled bikes, the ones who had the bikes towed to their homes after the collisions were able to remove add on parts, the ones who's bikes got towed to a garage/service center were unable to do so.. I agree with the suggestion to see what buy back is BUT, if you decide to buy it back dont forget it will be coming with a "salvage title" probably and that doesnt help in resale on a restored bike.. Not to discourage, just to inform... Again, glad your ok my friend! Puc
  20. Well,, lets see here,, sorry Eck ya caught me sleepin... First off, I was SHOCKED at the amount of International riders I saw and met.. I gotta say, the Canucks came out in full force, were VERY polite people and represented their country with honor, dignity and wholesome fun.. I am a little absent minded (cant remember 1 rally from another) and I am terrible with names so if they would kindly chime in and identify themselves in the pics below it would be appreciated.. The U.S. of A. was also well represented with all the people I met being just as friendly, polite and thoughtful as the Canucks were.. One guy in particular, noticed someones bike needing a horn and he jumped right in and did the install right in the middle of the Rally!! His actions were supported and supervised by a group of very knowledgeable and VERY serious minded folks.. The caterers of the food did a superb job, the main cook thereof - a funny guy with a love for grilling, was an outstanding chef who should receive some kind of an award for his cooking abilities.. I believe I have pics of him too.. It rained just enough to make us draw closer as a group and it (the rain) actually helped us stay in group discussions - always fun!! My only complaint about the Rally was it went by way to fast.. Ok, I also have another complaint.. The directions for the Rally werent exactly clear,,, we were suppose to turn on M-5 West.. When we got to the spot this intersection was suppose to be located we found M-5 North and M-5 East but no M-5 West... We spent about 45 minutes in the dark figuring that out,, I feel like that 45 minutes could have been better spent harrassing or being harrassed by some of the folks at the International Rally.. Thankfully, my internal calendar and clock, dynamic sense of direction coupled with a "feel" for the presents of other VR members saved the day... Thank you for asking and here are some pics of how the Rally went for us.. Puc
  21. WOW what a story B2Mom and Dad of an AMAZING young man, what a blessing to have you share that!! And, my goodness,, those pictures are PRICELESS!! PLEASE give your son a hug for Tip and I and let him know how proud of him we are! Also Patti, you can count on us to share the story and pass the dynamic words on that your son exemplifies: you can be anything you want to be, if you want to work hard for it, if you want it more than anything else!

    Sturgis 2014!

Hey TX, always a chance Tip and I may head back out too. The address for our campground (Puc's Peace On The Prairie) is, 20574 Gravel Rd Sturgis, SD 57785-6626. If you, or others, plug that into mapquest you will see a gravel road (appropriately named Gravel Road) cutting off 34 just past the Buffalo Chip heading away from Sturgis - I think that would be east.. The gravel road forms a perfect Y off 34, no idea why an address came up when I mapquested - there are NO buildings, its open prairie. I usually follow that gravel road to the fence line that runs across the prairie to the right.. I always camp close to the fence cause its the quietest spot, there are horses on the other side of the fence, you can see the stars and still able to watch the bikes go by all night... Been camping that spot for many many years and never a problem - knock on wood.. Still dont have running water, bathrooms, a bar, any food joints, cant have a fire and havent been able to get Ted or Tobie Kieth out there to play at our campground BUT,,, its free and open to anyone, anytime... If we do make it out again this year we will try and hunt you guys down - we would LOVE to have breakfast with ya'll!! I am sure I will recognize your scoot - if you, or ANY OF OUR GUYS, happen to see ol Tweeks come cruising thru PLEASE yelp at us!!! I will have a swig of water hangin on the bike for ya if you do!! Puc
