This is interesting Steamer,,, I think I also heard Bongo mention something about this while at Raggys... If there is gonna be any form of working on bikes at that Rally and those folks attending need a CEO, I KNOW from experience that a better CEO there has never been than Bongo himself,,,,,,, I had soooooo much fun supervising under his leadership... -

Oh man Buddy,, had I have known that was your place I wouldnt have written on the walls like I did,, please forgive me - I will personally remove the writing next time I come thru.. By the way, any chance I could rent that stall we were parked in? Little bit of fixin I could take that lift you left in the ground and work on four bikes at once.. I applied with Hollow Wood out in California and they said my productions were to close to being actual cartoons.. They also said their Saturday Morning time slots were full of other cartoons that, in their words, had less of a chance of having a negative impact on or causing nightmares for the children viewing these types of programs:rotf: THANK YOU for the vote of confidence though you guys!! I feel inspired now,, maybe its time for another episode of "The Adventures Of The Pucster and Tippy,, co-staring Tweeks" (Jack,,, Jack,,, how do you come up with these ideas:rotf: - maybe YOU will be our special guest star on the next episode -
OUTSTANDING BROTHER!! I could ride that puppy till the cows came home, even further maybe.. GOOD ON YA!!:cool10::cool10: THAT IS BEAUTIFUL!!! Now, about that statement - easier to get forgiveness than ask permission.. My son quoted that to my wife many years ago and I had to have that infamous father/son talk with em.. I said "Jay (thats his name), that quote is part of the Mans Code Of Secrets and women arent suppose to know of such things.. Might wanna edit that part of your post so as to protect us fellow members whose wives read this stuff on here,, no sense causing us grief to go along with our jealousy stemming from your new bike Midnight:rotf:

Ok,, now we are getting somewhere.. That probably (never underestimate the sneakyness of an electrical system - always leave room for the unexpected) means the problem is somewhere within the wiring leading to one of the lights that flash on the left side.. With electrical systems, narrowing the issue down is half the battle.. Again Sarge, I am assuming that the problem is happening WITHOUT the trailer wiring attached.. It is possible that you have something as simple as a filment in a light bulb that has found ground somehow. Take the lense covers off on your blinkers on the left side, remove the bulbs and check em carefully and make sure the filamints in them are still attached to the posts as they should be.. If you happen to have an ohm meter with you - bike key off, blinker selector switch in neutral (neither on for left or right), turn on the meter, put it on Ohms, touch the test leads together to make sure the meter is working - you will see a change on the meter reading when you touch em together.. With the bulbs removed from the left blinkers, look into a socket that one of the bulbs set in, notice the contact spot in the center of the base where the bulb sets.. Place one of the test leads from the meter against that little spot of lead - make sure your not touching the wall around the spot with the meter lead. Touch the other meter lead against a clean from paint spot on either the frame or the engine. If the meter shows a change in its reading you probably have a fray of wire touching somewhere - this is called a short or a closed circuit.. If the meter does not change, this is good - the circuit is "open".. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU REMOVE ALL THE BULBS THAT SERVE AS BLINKERS WHEN TESTING - any bulbs left in service will cause a faults reading.. Now put the test lead that you had on the center of the socket onto the edge of the socket and no longer touching the center spot, against the wall where the base of the light bulb would make contact and keep the frame/engine test lead touching the frame/engine.. The socket that the bulbs set in are wired as ground for the light bulbs.. Testing here you should get LOW ohms (infinitly) and your meter should ring if it has an audible.. If this test "open" (or no change in your meter reading) you have probably got a ground wire at the base of the blinker bulb socket that has broken loose.. Depending on how its wired, a loss of this ground could easily cause voltage to pass back thru the system and cause exactly what your describing.. Bad grounding (or that ground wire coming loose) doesnt always result in a "short" and its usually some form of shorting that will cause a fuse to go.. BUT,,, a ground wire - like the one attached internally to the base of a light bulb socket, that has come loose and is causing a low/dim scenario like your experiencing WILL cause a "short" if it happens to bump against a positive wire causing the positive to go to ground (thats what a short is).. Hope this helps somehow Sarge and isnt to confusing.. Remember I mentioned to leave room for other possibilies? There are lots of other area's that the problem could be coming from, handle bar switch, terminal area (might be inside the headlight on the 2nd Gen), a relay ect... If it were mine I would start where I suggested as it seems like those extended blinkers get a lot of movement and exaggurate viberations and thats what usually causes wires to break and such.. (THIS IS AN EDITED VERSION AND SUBJECT TO MORE EDITING AS OTHERS CHIME IN WITH SUGGESTIONS)

Your welcome Rick

happy birthday carl!!!! Tried to make your card colors the same as your new bike!!

Hey Sarge You mentioned bad weather happening at the time all this began.. Had you by any chance been operating your 4 ways for a period while riding in the rain? It is possible between the bike and the trailer light draw that you burned out a flasher unit..
-
That probably eleminates a short or bad ground out on the blinkers themselves and leads me to point in the area of the flasher unit itself or before the flasher in the circuitry.. As mentioned earlier, have you checked the harness where it might rub or get pinched in the neck area - look closely at the harness itself for evidence of pinching.. Also check the harness on the bike that leads to the trailer for the same thing..
-
Sarge, with the emergency flashers off, try your blinkers and see if you can determine whether or not the dim/bright condition happens only with one of the positions of the blinker switch,, only when right or left blinker is turned on..
-
And the trailer is totally disconnected?
-
If the trailer lights are unplugged and the trailer is disconnected from the bike than it has to be the bike wiring.. Are the lights going dim/bright even with the blinker switch turned off or only if you try and use the blinkers?
-
Hey Sarge, you might try a test wire from the frame of the trailer to the frame of the bike bike and see if the lights go back to normal.. If they do, you have lost the ground between the trailer and bike.. What Brake Pad is discribing is a common trailer wiring problem!

I love Ghost Towning,, described by myself as the act of finding an abandoned town or, building, while out touring on the scoot... I have done my share of it, both off roading the bike and while traveling the Interstates on the same.. Doesnt matter if its an abandoned motel in Chicago that we happen to camp under an overhang of or an old abandoned town in the middle of Mountains of Utah. I classify em as Ghost Towns if they are obviously that,, only inhabited by Ghosties.. I posted this video up cause its actually the first time I/we have been rescued by a Ghost Town.. Usually its me rescuing the town by adding life to it,,, this time it was different... Something else I wanna add,, while not a destructive person by nature, I left some notes on the wall of this abandoned building (watch and you'll see).. I KNOW most of you arent that childish BUT,,, as we were leaving this fine establishment I mentioned to Tippy how cool it would be if someone saw this video, happened to go by that place at another time and they chose to stop, pick up a piece of old drywall and sign the wall near our names,,, get a Ghost Town Pen Pal Club going or something... Crazy eay.. Location is given in the video if your crazy enough to take the challenge!! Puc

WOW!! Sounds like you folks had an AWESOME ride!! Gotta admit, that Colorado is one GORGEOUS State!! Makes a feller not wanna go home doesnt it Barry!! Glad you all made it back safely and had a ball! Puc

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY RANDY!! Maybe when I grow old and cant ride bikes anymore,,,, be a shame to have something like THAT and not have time to play with it during the summer months.. MAN THAT IS AWESOME!! In 20 years or so we will have to convince Don to start a EXVENTURERIDERMUSCLECAROWNERS.ORG for us has beens who still have the need for speed!!

The Cannonball is set up to be for antique bikes of no later models than specified for any given event.. The Cannonball Run we followed was for 29 and earlier bikes only BUT, indeed, you can tag along on your own for the whole trip if you want to.. Tippy and I were out at the Sturgis Rally and heard about it out there.. We came home specifically to do what you are suggesting VideoAZ!! On the way home, Tippy says "so lets see here, we have covered half the country this year on a bike and now you wanna go follow these bikes on basically the same tour, sounds like fun but I still dont understand why".. My response "cause sooner of later one of those old bikes is gonna break down and when it does,, ya never know, I may get to work on the Holy Grail!!".. Guess what Dave,, IT WORKED!! Short vid of the results are here Oh, by the way AZ, you also gotta remember that the Cannonball is a race and the bikes get really spread out.. Couple here, couple there so its not like following a large group of really cool old bikes all riding together.. Still a LOT of fun though,, just gotta be patient and wait in certain areas if ya wanna see em all... -
Barry, on my 1st Gens if I dont have a lift and use the center stand I just put it up on the center stand, take a 2x4 and lay it under the bike so the board is touching the two feet of the center stand. CAREFULLY, lean the bike up on one leg of the stand enough so I can slide the board under the lifted foot.. Than lean it the otherway so the bike is lifted by the foot of the stand with the board under it and kick the board so the other side goes under the other foot too.. That extra 2 inches (or whatever the actual thickness of a 2x4 is) gives the bike plenty of extra lift for getting the rear tire off,,, on a 1st Gen anyway... I can get the rear tire off while bike is on the stand without the assistance of a board BUT, I have to take the bag rails off to do it.. Yours may be different..

Hmmmmmmmm,, sounds to me like we have the makings for another Poll to be taken,, what do ya think Buckshot? It almost sounds like we may have underestimated our good buddy Bongo's state of bikership... On another note, wonder if anyone else noticed the really neat shirt Buckshot was wearing during this event? That shirt sure had me making a lot of trips thru Raggy and Jeannies kitchen while I was there
