Hey Don, was there any discussion with your Harley shop about the removal of the converter and affect, if any, on your warranty? If it had no affect on your warranty, did your Harley shop have to do the work to keep the warranty going? Also, concerning the heat that you guys are talking about,,, Tip and I have test rode several of the new HD models and have had on a number of occasions, experienced the "rear cylinder shut down mode" on them.. I am sure yours is equipped with such, do you find this "mode" to help with the heat issue compared to your Evo? I follow you on the "never being sensitive to heat on bikes" thought.. My 78 Lowrider LOVED the desert and I loved riding it out there.. Problem now is I havent been a solo rider for years,, like I was back then... How does your wife, as passenger, feel about the difference between the two (RSV/Harley)? REALLY enjoying this thread! Thanks for posting it up Don!! Puc

WOW GS - GLAD YOUR OK BROTHER!! I hate having flat tires, specially on motorcycles!! My guess,, and its ONLY a guess (dont spend the money on another bike based on this), is between 2800 and 3400 if its the Royal Star, 3100 to 3700 if it the Royal Star Touring Classic... I have friends who have totaled bikes, the ones who had the bikes towed to their homes after the collisions were able to remove add on parts, the ones who's bikes got towed to a garage/service center were unable to do so.. I agree with the suggestion to see what buy back is BUT, if you decide to buy it back dont forget it will be coming with a "salvage title" probably and that doesnt help in resale on a restored bike.. Not to discourage, just to inform... Again, glad your ok my friend! Puc

Well,, lets see here,, sorry Eck ya caught me sleepin... First off, I was SHOCKED at the amount of International riders I saw and met.. I gotta say, the Canucks came out in full force, were VERY polite people and represented their country with honor, dignity and wholesome fun.. I am a little absent minded (cant remember 1 rally from another) and I am terrible with names so if they would kindly chime in and identify themselves in the pics below it would be appreciated.. The U.S. of A. was also well represented with all the people I met being just as friendly, polite and thoughtful as the Canucks were.. One guy in particular, noticed someones bike needing a horn and he jumped right in and did the install right in the middle of the Rally!! His actions were supported and supervised by a group of very knowledgeable and VERY serious minded folks.. The caterers of the food did a superb job, the main cook thereof - a funny guy with a love for grilling, was an outstanding chef who should receive some kind of an award for his cooking abilities.. I believe I have pics of him too.. It rained just enough to make us draw closer as a group and it (the rain) actually helped us stay in group discussions - always fun!! My only complaint about the Rally was it went by way to fast.. Ok, I also have another complaint.. The directions for the Rally werent exactly clear,,, we were suppose to turn on M-5 West.. When we got to the spot this intersection was suppose to be located we found M-5 North and M-5 East but no M-5 West... We spent about 45 minutes in the dark figuring that out,, I feel like that 45 minutes could have been better spent harrassing or being harrassed by some of the folks at the International Rally.. Thankfully, my internal calendar and clock, dynamic sense of direction coupled with a "feel" for the presents of other VR members saved the day... Thank you for asking and here are some pics of how the Rally went for us.. Puc -
WOW what a story B2Mom and Dad of an AMAZING young man, what a blessing to have you share that!! And, my goodness,, those pictures are PRICELESS!! PLEASE give your son a hug for Tip and I and let him know how proud of him we are! Also Patti, you can count on us to share the story and pass the dynamic words on that your son exemplifies: you can be anything you want to be, if you want to work hard for it, if you want it more than anything else!

Hey TX, always a chance Tip and I may head back out too. The address for our campground (Puc's Peace On The Prairie) is, 20574 Gravel Rd Sturgis, SD 57785-6626. If you, or others, plug that into mapquest you will see a gravel road (appropriately named Gravel Road) cutting off 34 just past the Buffalo Chip heading away from Sturgis - I think that would be east.. The gravel road forms a perfect Y off 34, no idea why an address came up when I mapquested - there are NO buildings, its open prairie. I usually follow that gravel road to the fence line that runs across the prairie to the right.. I always camp close to the fence cause its the quietest spot, there are horses on the other side of the fence, you can see the stars and still able to watch the bikes go by all night... Been camping that spot for many many years and never a problem - knock on wood.. Still dont have running water, bathrooms, a bar, any food joints, cant have a fire and havent been able to get Ted or Tobie Kieth out there to play at our campground BUT,,, its free and open to anyone, anytime... If we do make it out again this year we will try and hunt you guys down - we would LOVE to have breakfast with ya'll!! I am sure I will recognize your scoot - if you, or ANY OF OUR GUYS, happen to see ol Tweeks come cruising thru PLEASE yelp at us!!! I will have a swig of water hangin on the bike for ya if you do!! Puc

Not so much Squeeze,, mostly 1/8th mile now adays here in the States,,, guess the NHRA shortened it up for safety sake.. Good point on a 1/4 mile still ='s a 1/4 mile though,,, glad to hear it cause my old body has been trying to convince my mind that a 1/4 mile now ='s closer to 10 miles I would LOVE to watch that 09 Max rip up the strip!

This discussion takes me right back to being a youngster, sitting around debating who's is faster and "groovier".. Mopar's, Chev's, Ford's, and an occasional AMX.. The days when drag racing was a 1/4 mile and ya run what cha brung, a 67 slant 6 Dodge Barracuda with that full view rear window glistening sun while it putted down the strip.... Pits were open and the smells and sounds in there were to die for.. Local car parts stores had parts for Holley Carbs and boxes of Cherry Bomb Muffs.. K-Mart sold Dwell Meters, 8" slots, 10" Cragers, L-60's and an occasional set of cheater slicks. Don Garlits, AJ, Preston Petty, The Little Red Wagon posters hangin on the walls of all the car shops.. Sunoco 260 could be had for 39 cents a gallon and the kid pumping it would get high off the unburned fuel smell coming from the 396 Chevelle that was cammed up with 12 degrees of valve overlap... Barely able to idle, that Chevelle would go sideways instantly in 3rd even being loaded with 2 guys and 2 chicks.. Dog n Suds, A&W, Drive Inn movies, Bell Bottom Jeans and Mini Skirts... Seems like just yesterday....

Any chance you could get a friend to bounce it for you while you listen and move things around in the fork area? Hold the speedo cable, lightly touch the chrome coverings,, use your fingers to feel for the noise source.. I would also put a wrench on all the associated nuts and bolts on the front end before I ran off with it,, maybe the fork tubes are loose in the triple tree or you have a loose fork brace tieing the forks together... Another note,, I had one once that someone put a new front tire on and didnt set the front forks properly on the axle.. Instead of clamping the fork on the ax after tightening down the axle they clamped it first and then tightened the axle, virtually putting the forks in a major bind... Just something else to check...

DOG GONE IT DAN,,, last time someone woke up Fool he went out and started pulling maintenance on that goofy machine of his,,, sky's turned gray - cold chills could be felt across Michigan - peoples pets became nervous as all get out and weathermen quit their jobs and went to work at Wendys (all happened a week ago).. -
Where Condors Ski: A Puc and Tippy Video Production

Heyyy,, Hi Kev!! Ya know,,, for some reason I still cant imagine it being 3.6 miles from the Lodge to the top of the mountain... Just looked a lot closer than that when we were up there... Man that was a good time!! -
Not real familiar with the 2nd Gens SundayRider..... On some of the newer bikes (post 1990's) I know they have a "floater" brake disc, its a disc that actually moves a little on pins. I had a YZ250 once that had one and it made some very familiar noises of which you speak and it had me thinking some of the same thoughts as you bring up.. Might wanna check those brake components that your pressing against while moving the forks up and down.. You could even put your front wheel against a wall instead of using your brakes to bounce against, then press down on the forks and see if it still makes noise.. If it does, you will at least KNOW it is fork related. Another possibility is that the inner fork system that is held in place by a bolt thru the bottom of the outer fork tube has come loose and is allowing the internal rod/valving mechanism to clunk against the bottom of the fork tube where it is attached.. Most bikes I have worked on have an allen head bolt that can be a rascal to loosen up that attaches the internal rod.. If your bike is built in the method I am talking about and this is the problem,, all you would have to do is remove the front axle, drop the front wheel, look under the end of the front forks and you should see an opening with an allen head bolt in it.. Get an allen wrench and check both sides for tightness.. If one is loose, it is possible you will need an air wrench to spin it back to tightness as sometimes - once they are broke loose the internals will spin with the bolt so you cant get it to tighten.. Just some thoughts.. Puc

IMHO, water in the bulb housing would have to cause enough resistance between the bulb base and the wall of the socket it is grounding to in order to cause voltage to seek another path thru the system (the result being that notorious condition of dim/bright).. Also, it would be very difficult for the water itself to cause an actual short - the type needed to blow a fuse - water is a conductor but not a very good one, I doubt water could carry enough amperage at 12 volts to actually over come the natural resistance of the water and pop a fuse.. Again, IMHO...

Billed as a spin-off of "Where Eagles Dare", "Where Condors Ski" is a short but fascinating video production starring famous VentureRider.org member "Condor" himself.. Using techniques involving a Pointer Stick converted from a walking cane, this fun loving, motorcycle riding, gravy covered french fry Bandit instructs some innocent bystanders on snow skiing methods he had learned as a child.. The actor also subconsitiously instructs one of his students in proper beard trimming (you gotta read between the lines a little to pick up on this)... Filmed on location at Mt. Hood, Oregon... NO SKIERS, MOTORCYCLIST, INNOCENT BYSTANDERS OR EMPLOYEES OPERATING SKI LIFTS WERE INJURED IN THE PROCESS OF THE MAKING OF THIS FILM!!
