  1. Heyyy,,, don't nobody go hangin my friend now,,, aint really his fault,,, Fool has been desert and southern regioned :stickpoke::stickpoke: for EVER.. All the = nahhh nahh dee boo boo's = cant reach us being played over and over again,,, I think he just snapped and gone off the edge of the ice berg... It's not Fool's fault that friendlies like the Boss just happen to catch the over spray when Fool swings the nozzles on his White Washer to the south in response to those lop eared suthern varmints.. I personally have stuffed rags in the nozzles on his WW but not interested in hurting him personally.. I will say this though,,, if you do Venture yonder into Consin with ill intent,, be VERY careful,, that White Washer and surrounding area is a booby trap zone second to none,,, one wrong move and POOF = PLANETARY ICE AGE HAS BEGUN!!:snow: @Flyinfool ,, if you see this,,, how bout giving us all another shot of my favorite WW Inc thingy:cool10:
  2. It does take some special learning tactics and extra special attention to detail to follow me at times don't it my eternal brother !! Soo glad you are figuring it out Sly!! Mom Yam,, if you are attempting to follow this,, Sly brings up a VERY serious note/point here.. We aint talking about no moped powered scoot (although I do love my mopeds),, we are talking SERIOUS motovational Hybrid power... Trooper has a 38kw electric motor that yields 126 ft/pds of torque right off the line, combined with his 1600cc 4 cylinder engine he gets a total yield of 140 horse power. Sport mode on the tranny will launch him from a dead stop REAL worthy like.. Normal mode on the tranny will yield +50 mpg at a steady +100 mph (Troops cruise control will still set at 117 mph - maybe beyond but that is as fast as I have ran him). Sly (and Mom Yam),, I am thinking a similar arrangement on a full blown, CTFW, touring scoot.. No reason why not IMHO.. Maybe drop the 1600cc engine for a smaller 1200cc V-4 (I am a lop eared old school varmint still stuck on the V-4 bike platform ) like our original MK 1's had. Troops red line is set at 5500,,, the range where our bikes are just getting started in developing some serious HP,,, Mom Yam = using the tiny little (by todays standards) V-4 - you could use the healthy electric torque for a hard hitting linear launch then engage the V-4 when needed and rev limit it at 8 grand.. Another thought for some REAL excitement would be to wrap the project around a Liter bike engine like @CaseyJ955 and I been about .. Tiny little 1000cc engine producing +150 horse and let the electric motor handle any deminished torque needs lost to ICE displacement ... Actually Sly,,, I am (see if you can follow this) talking about a package that slays in all arena's = MPG and performance.. A real game changer as it were!!
  3. I am there with you Corporal Newkirk, 100%!! Definitely gotta have those potty breaks.. On the other hand though,, especially while traveling the endless desert regions,,, not all of them potty breaks found a fuel station attached to the pee area.. Matter of fact,, even though 150 miles sounds like a pretty good distance, we discovered numerous areas that even 150 miles of range was iffy. Matter of fact, due to our love for finding out what is behind those distant mountains,, even 600 miles to a 10 gallon tank on Trooper can get iffy and we had to drift into a fuel station under battery power. Still stopping for potty breaks though
  4. Exactly Jack,, you are onto my point! Way I figure it, if this little 4 cylinder Hybrid Ioniq we have been travelling in can regularly see +60 mpg shooting back n forth from Commie forn ya to Michigan and back again,, aint no reason that someone can't produce a full blown touring scoot with similar design dynamics that can top 100 mpg.. Another point to ponder is that Trooper (our Ioniq), Tip and I camped out down on the south west border at a place called Organ Pipe Cactus NP a while back. 104 degrees at night. Ran the air conditioning with the cabin temp set at 68 degrees. The air pump runs off the high voltage battery and when the battery would run low, the ICE (Hybrid language for Internal Combustion Engine - I learned that since owning this thing,, old dogs new tricks ya know ) would kick on to charge the battery. In that environment the air pump would run for 40 minutes and then the ICE would cycle for 3 minutes.. For a 13 hour camp out, it cost less than 3 bucks (1 gallon of fuel) to stay comfy all night long!! Years ago, when leaving Moab on one of our cross country trips, Tweeks/Tip and I bumped into a VERY serious Electric motorcycle cross country rider named Terry Hersher. He and Craig Vetter (yep, Vetter fairing icon) had worked for many years designing streamlining kits for the Zero electric bike Terry was riding. Terry and I chatted for a longgg time at the gas station we had both stopped at.. He was having a great trip with the only real flaw that he discribed being that he had to stop every 120 miles or so to top off his battery = +4 hours of down time.. Our discussion centered around the need for battery technology to catch up in order for Electric vehicles to become worthy for touring.. Back then, I had no clue about the whole Hybrid idea (still know very little) but knowing what I do now,, I SERIOUSLY wonder if the Hybrid ICE/Electric should not have been discussed during that dialog.

  6. Polaris has long since been very tight lipped about actual unit sales of their bikes BUT,, this latest recall openly shows the number of units of Big Twins produced from 2014 to 2019 as just over 52000 units. Shown here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2019/RCLRPT-19V776-9381.PDF If my math still works somewhat, that figures out to be about 10250 units per year.. Polaris closed their Victory after 18 years of production with 125000 units of production during that time stating the Victory just didnt produce sales enough to continue the line. Lets see,, 125000 divided by 18 = 7000ish per year.. That puts the average sales of the Indian brand up significantly from the Victory.. Thinking business thinking and future motorcycle predictions and all that,,, I am predicting that the Polaris Indian is going to make it!! IMHO, another interesting point to ponder (if you are a lop eared pondering varmint like I am anyway,,, the rest of you varmints are probably wayyyy bored by now ) is the thought of how this all compares to the Indian brands number 1 competitor = HD... Figuring HD has been averaging well over 200000 units of their Big Twin models per year during that same time period (well into the 240's if you include the non Big Twin models) that would give HD 1 million units sold during the same time frame as Indians 52000 units or,, stated another way,, this would show Polaris Indian Big Twin at 5.2 percent of HD's Big Twin sales since Polaris introed the their version of the Indian.. Is that enough to actually make the folks at HD know that Polaris exists,, ,,, I think so,, I certainly hope so cause THAT would mean good things to come for us consumers because in a Capitalistic society such as ours,, competition has a way of doing just that I gotta go take some Excedrin for a headache now

Very very few actually (just under 7 thousand that I personally have put on her).. Maggie (my R1) is relegated to her own "private track" as its just wayyy to easy to get in trouble on her... Our local police have given me a couple "breaks" and asked me to keep her "out of town" ... Wanna hear a story about that? Thought you would .. So my buddy on his Sportster and I on Maggie were out playing around.. The Shell station where I buy gas from sits on top of a hill with nothing but the drive way for a Mr Quicks resturant drive way between the Shell Stations drive way and the apex of the hill,, then a nice longggg drop of pavement with a stop light at the bottom where we turn towards our home(s) on the lakeshore.. Traffic clears,, my buddy on his sporty takes off in race mode,, I could hear him running thru the gears going down the hill.. I turned out of the driveway at Shell,, went braapppp and pulled Maggies clutch in from 1st gear and started coasting down the hill.. About 3/4 of the way down I noticed a Police Officer sitting at the stop light at the bottom and noticed him not moving with the rest of the traffic as it pulled forward .. I figured for sure he was after my bud and I would non shellontly putt by as he pulled my buddy over,,,,,, ahhh oh,,, not so fast,,, he let my buddy go by and was obviously waiting patiently for yours truely.. His lights came on as I rounded the corner... When he approached Maggie, he said "I had your buddy at 55 in a 30 but you I had at 62 in a 30 on that hill top ... As he was balling me out, asking the usual questions,, I was removing my helmet - when I pulled it from my head he about FELL OVER!! His words "I was TOTALLY expecting to see the face of some young kid buried under there",, then asked what my "story" was... I openly told him about Maggie being my "bucket list bike" and some of the health reasons that brought her into my possestion.. He listened carefully as I finished and also as I told him that Tippy would have a great big on her face when she came to lock up to bail me out and that Maggie would be going to a new home .. Ironically,, the Officer turned out to be a fellow biker who also had watched the movie "Second Hand Lions" = looked me right square in the eyes and remarkably said "I get it".. Before he let me go though he asked me to PLEASE keep Maggie near home on her "private track" roadway farr away from town so I dont hurt anybody if I do go down and to PLEASE watch out for Red Barns (you will have to watch Second Hand Lions to get that one ).. I am SOOOO glad that I took the time in my life to own such a remarkable machine Casey.. My health has steadily been deteriorating and has gotten to the point that I probably will be looking for a new home for Maggie this Spring,, things are not like they used to be in balance and judgement - it's an aging thing for most people - I think.. Mags and I did have a LOT of fun though, even though our area is no where near as "open" as I KNOW your area is.. 200ish mph runs with any form of real safety is an issue around here,, wayyy to much forest and inhabitants.. Always wanted to play the Bonneville game on her,, I KNOW for a fact that she is completely capable of bouncing the rev limiter in 6th gear (remarkable machine these Liter bikes are) but have never done it. I think, and this is just my opinion, if I lived in your neck of the woods,, knowing it like I do,, I DEFINITELY would have proven that fact. Soooo many amazing open run areas out there,, perfect for an angel flying to close to the ground .. As you know,, as you, I too have been there with the V-Max.. NICE scoots that I LOVE the performance of.. The neat thing about the Liter bike (and especially your Gixxer - Maggie is an old under powered carbed model of an R1 = EXACTLY what I was looking for but DEFINITELY not a modern day Gixxer of a Liter bike) world is where the V-Max runs out of steam,, that Gixxer will just begin to dance .. Personally brother,, there is NO WAY on God's green earth I would sell that sweetheart of a machine if I were you until I had a chance to be her dance partner a time or two :dancefool:
  10. Hear Hear!! Wasn't long ago (ok,, maybe it was but I aint admitten it Corporal Newkirk ) a few wrenches and a set of torches was all I had to work with... Coat hangers for weld rod = amazing how much fun a grease covered youngen can have.. I could get two pieces of steel to hang together ok.. Even had a couple years of welding in shop class back then (talking 60's here,, back when schools still had "shop classes"). 70's I landed a really FUN and good paying job with the Boilermakers = they were building a new Power House on our side of Lake Michigan and were willing to hire almost anyone not afraid of heights. When the "push" announced the local was gonna be needing welders and asked for volunteers interested in attending Weld School, my hand couldn't get up fast enough (always looking for more "tools" for my life's "tool box").. Class was taught by a Pipe Fitter and WOWZY could he weld and, better yet,, a VERY patient teacher.. Before he even began teaching us to Tig (a class only available to those who passed bend and x-ray on an open butt over head plate = 6010 root/7018 woven cap,, he started with all positions of plate.. LOTS OF FUN!! About 1 week into the course,, he pulled me aside and complimented my welding abilities, his words "you weld really well for someone who cant see what he is doing :big-grin-emoticon:"... I went home over that one Newkirk!! Next class he pulls me aside and ask if I would like to REALLY learn the art of welding,, OF COURSE was my answer.. He then told me that I would have to work HARD and learn to see the puddle.. Took some time and LOTS of practice with a lowely Oxy/Acet torch but,, I will NEVER forget the day it connected,,, watching the puddle lines overlap each other and tie in to the edges was amazing,,, sort of my version of how someone who really understands Algebra (I tried,, I REALLY tried but never got there in Math),, kind of strange eh? From there on out, sky was the limit in learning Welding.. "Walking The Cup" was a BIG thing in Tiggin Pipe back then and before I "graduated" his class,, Terry (the instructer) had me Tiggin mild steel like I had been doing it all my life.. No more riggin,, no more dragging 1 inch cable between Buckstays and hanging upside down from 300 feet to hang pullies or unloading box cars... Full time Pipe Welder including lots of Stainless (REAL PURDY STUFF,, a little patience and practice = welds look good enough to use for a Wedding Ring) and "pimps" (what we called helpers back then) to boot... All because a very highly skilled individual took the time to work with me till I could "see the puddle", never had one weld fail to xray (that I know of) in 3 years of welding pipe.. Probably all sounds crazy but that is the way it happened to me...
  11. With all the hype and push toward Electric Motorcycles I can't help but wonder why no one has ventured into the Hybrid arena. Instead of being limited to distance traveled due to battery depletion, a hybrid gas/electric powered scoot would enable the rider to travel long distances, non stop. Plus, if done correctly, breaking the 100 mpg glass ceiling on a tour bike should easily be within reach. We have been breaking 65 mpg in our little Hyundai Ioniq CAGE now on a regular basis. Personally and IMHO, the responses I have been seeing about the new HD Electric bike (and others) has been :thumbdown:mostly due to the price (30 grand for two wheels and an electric motor?) but also due to the range before run out of juice.. I really think a "hybrid" = gas engine AND electric would be a game changer... Of course,, I am admittedly one of those lop eared lame brainered varmints who thought the 1700 cc V-Max motor instead of an air cooled V-Twin in the new Venture would have been a game changer and produced better sales on your touring bike offering so there's that but I still cant help but wonder if the first producer out with an actual Hybrid bike may be onto something in the future of motorcycling..

WOWZY WOW WOW WOW - she is GORGEOUS Casey = a MAJOR upon you!! Oh yeah,,, it WILL be OK brother!! Just lots and lots of respect being paid to it and believe me - it will be wayyy more than OK!!! IMHO,, owning/riding a full blown Liter bike is like having your very own World Class Roller Coaster of your very own.. It's also really fun having one of the fastest production vehicles produced and being able to enter triple digits in 1st Gear with the feeling of entering warp speed aint half bad either = BAD TO THE BONE.. Throttle control my friend,, its all about throttle control
  13. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW ,, she's a DANDY Radar!! Did it follow ya home yet?? Been seeing LOTS of GREAT deals on both the Eluder and the SVTC out there.. Just noticed (Cycle Trader) em listed for 15 ( https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2018-Yamaha-Star-Eluder-5003956296 ),, you go all the wayyyy out to Washington to get yours in this sub-zero weather? If are in order,, are given my friend!!
  14. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, THANKS FOR JOINING IN ON THE FUN MONSTAH!! Beautiful smathering of mouth watering shooters ya got there brother!!! LOVE your VEPR-12!! Grabbed an FR-98 (AR-12 cause I am into AR's) myself to fulfill the want of a high cap 12 gauge a good while back and discovered the issue of having to pay big money for mags above 5 rounds,, something the VEPR had long since had covered. Time and sales has long since brought those prices down and the AR has proven worthy but I do LOVE your AK style 12 gauge = NICE,, REAL NICE! As well as your other shooters, I also LOVE the looks of your wifes Kimber 9.. Looks like a 1911 platform!! DEFINITELY love the 1911's!! Thanks for joining the fun Monsta!! Glad to have you keeping the lead tossin happening!! Puc
  15. Got er done ya lop eared White Washin varmint!! Told Tip,, got 2 choices,, dismantle and install blower or wait and see if it melts and the leafs fall so I can attach the leaf vac and pic em up.. Then got thinkin of all we have learned about Murph = leave the blower off and bingo = full blown winter of historic WW records is headed our way. 2 hours of dismantling and installing blower = snow will melt so I have to uninstall and then reinstall at next snowfall,, I was :scratchchin: until it dawned on me,,,, 6 extra hours of work = the return of summer? WIN/WIN for all of lop eared NON ICE IN VEINS varmints :moon::rasberry: - just say NO to SNOW
  16. DEFINITELY a brother by a different mother Bum!!
  17. IMHO, besides understanding that welding is sort of similar to painting in that it tends to be alot about prep and cleaniness, beyond that it is alot about being able to actually see "the puddle". If you can see the puddle then you can use the puddle like an artist/painter delicately uses the paint brush tip to apply his trade with remarkable accuracy. Undercutting and goose poop welds become a thing of the past as now the person doing the welding is actually seeing the fusing between the two objects taking place and knows exactly what the weld is going to look like and perform like before he/she even raises the weld hood.. Also, IMHO, it seems (for some us anyway) that it is easier to learn the skill of "seeing the puddle" by using an Oxy/Act torch (you got a torch Jack?) set up for brazing and practice some without the additional alloy being added as your trying to see the puddle. Adjust the flame to a nice cone like you are gonna braze up a piece of tin then just use the tip of the cone on a hunk of steel to push the puddle around without adding filler. Practice keeping the puddle consistently at one size by both speed you are moving and distance between cone and steel.. I know, as usual I am getting long winded.. Have fun playing with the new toy brother!!! Puc
  18. Maddy, I never tried a Turkey Baster but am pretty sure it would be very difficult to attach it to the drain tubes. I have always used Syringes, like what I show in the pics below. I get mine from a local Tractor Supply (use to be Farm and Fleet) and they fit the drain tubes nicely. What I do/have done is attach the syringe to a drain tube by forcing the nipple shown in the pic up into the tube (you may have to pre-spread the tube a little with a pair of needle nose pliers - just stick the closed nose of the pliers in the tube and open the pliers enough to stretch the rubber hose some so the syringe nipple will start into the tube) open the drain and suck the fuel out into the syringe. Leave the syringe attached and pull the plunger out and dump the fuel into a jar. Pull the carb slide/diaphram, fill the syringe with carb cleaner of your choice (I use spray cleaner from Menards), put the plunger back in and push the cleaner into the carb while watching the main jet emulsion tube in the carb body that the metering rod that attaches to the slide slides into. Push fuel in until the cleaner starts flowing from the metering rod hole - when it flows = close the drain and let it soak over night. When I remove the cleaner I like to pull it in and out of the bowl with the syringe to adgitate the cleaner a little. Not sure how well this will work for cleaning the float valve though as the float is going to be raising as you inject cleaner thru the drain... Perhaps,, maybe,, what da heck,, worth a try.. If it were mine I would probably do what I am talking about only after cleaning pulling the cleaner out for the last time I would leave the syringe attached, close the drain, cycle the fuel pump with the kill switch till I heard the pump signal the bowl was full by not cycling anymore, pull the fuel from the carb with the syringe a couple times to wash the float valve thouroughly. Maddy, did you check your fuel tank for rust? If not, it may not be a bad idea to pull the seat, pull the sending unit out of the top of tank and take a look inside of it. Pay special attention to the top of the tank, also dump the fuel you are removing from the carb and put it in a jar and let it set overnight to see if tiny rust particles are gathering in the bottom of the jar. I know this probably sounds nuts but I have had on more than one occasion had rust particles from rusty tank interiors that were so small that even the best of the best fuel filters would not collect em.. The little buggers of rust would still contaminate and mess up a healthy float valve though.. Anyway,, hope this helps.. Here is a video of the carb drain hoses that I did for another clubber, it shows the drain hoses I am speaking of and also some pics of the syringes I use, hope this all helps in some small way brother..
  19. Just got back in here myself and HOPE AND PRAY you gotta outta dodge BEFORE Fool started his latest round of shananigans Raggy!! I was planning on maybe doing some fall yard work but looks like we went right to Fool's WWW season instead!! All the VERY best in your move brother and that your singing this tune: Here is what we came home to:
  20. Another thing that comes to mind Red, maybe pull the slides and check em for stickiness in the carb bodies. Also double check the condition of the diaphrams while your in there poking around...
  21. Been out putting a few more miles on Trooper,,, boogied home with hopes/plans of maybe picking up a few leaf's in the yard (hard to do with 90% of those leaf's still hooked up in the trees!!) but ohhhh nooo,, instead we got welcomed back by Wisconsin White Wash scattered all over the place... County plow trucks are even chasing around scraping and spreading salt!! 5 inches on the ground and still comin!! :snow::snow: Hope I can remember how to attach the blower on the tractor!!
  22. Noticing that Polaris is specing out no valve clearance adjustment on this new SOHC engine as it has Hydraulic Lifters and being of the type of gearhead that I am,, I couldn't help but wonder what's inside.. A little digging and I came up with the following pic that shows the topend (it's the only pic I could find, I am on the right trail here). It appears to my untrained eyes that the "lifters" are installed on the valve stem contact end of the rocker assembly and that Polaris is using fork type roller rocker = one cam lobe is operating 2 valves. An interesting concept,, - I think my eyes and greasy fingers have played with such before,, thinking Honda 700 Nighthawk . Think I am calling this right? Also, looking at the end of the cam,,, seeing what looks like possible variable valve timing ,,, probably not,, more likely some form of compression release mechanism. Thoughts?

IMHO, from the get go - our club has been a "family oriented" site,, one that even children could visit without having parental over site needed to guard against seeing things that may not be appropriate for young eyes.. I have never been a site Moderator but can only imagine that being one is not that dissimalar from being the "trail boss" on a ride that consists of +50 riders all of varying degrees of skill levels and trying to make the call on routing, ride speeds and difficulty of terrain = ya gotta gear the ride to the least skilled levels to protect the group and make it fun for all. Personally,, as a "trail boss" I think MarCarl (and others) has always done an excellent job at the task and I totally trust his call on this type of stuff.. I also know from experience how easy it is for things to turn "personal". In the spirit of Club brotherhood and just to cut off a possible opportunity for that to happen somehow in this case, it may do us all good to be reminded that what is being discussed has been dealt with many times over in the past..
  25. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW = AWESOME Fool = my brother!!! All the absolute VERY best of wishes as you break in a new employer my friend!!
