  1. Is it possible that the new filter is a oil dampened filter that he has too much oil on??
  2. Just from the hip having never worked on a V-Star 1100 but having worked on a few Virago's and others... May wanna take a peek at the carb diaphrams and vacuum lines.. Also, If I had been told all that work had been done and then discovered that the guy had cheated my buddy on a carb job, I would begin with the basics and check his other work.. Do a quick compression test just to check the mechanics skills on valve work, check the vacuum lines for proper placement and so on. Also,, if that model still has the Vacuum operated fuel petcock you might wanna check its operation.. If it does, pull the vacuum line off the petcock and see if there is fuel in it - if so ya got a bad diaphram in the petcock..
  3. The Cannonball is AMAZING!! We followed em back in 2012 and had a BLAST - well worth the time and effort! An interesting thing that I learned by doing so was that not all these folks are followed by support teams and the like.. Some of them are just everyday kinda people out for an adventure,, just fellow gearheaded kinda folk livin off the land so to speak.. ALL great people:bighug: Got to make GREAT friends, fixed a stranded 29 Harley JD, heard many many great tales PLUS seeing a rolling bike museum was PRICELESS!! GREAT THREAD Bob!! Go find em you guys if ya got the time - you WILL be glad you did!!
  4. Prayers Up busting right thru the rain clouds!!!!!

  6. If its pretty much all the time and not just a freak thing that you smelled during certain wind conditions, I would bet on the windshield.. I have ridden a few bikes with oversized windshields (bought/sold a 93 Wing that had a MASSIVE shield on it - did exactly what your saying).. I have seen windshield vents out there, I wouldnt be surprised that a set of those may help.. Another thing that would help would be exhaust turn down tips but I have no idea whether they make em for an RSV... On a positive note,, I bet your wife really likes the added protection of that shield!! Welcome to VR Motiv! Puc
  7. Truthfully Kev,, I am soooo impressed with the modern day motorcycles and especially our Ventures, I would be happy if Yamaha just started reproducing the 83/84 1st Gens.. They were plenty fast, the most cuddly 2 up bike ever made - lay back and cruise for hours and hours, straighten the twisties like on rails and I even LOVED the colors!! Yessirreee,, just tweek the trannys, stators, clutch and brakes,,, crank em out for 10 grand a piece and I would order one!! I would even want a cassette player on mine!! If I had one wish for all manufactures, I would personally wish they would find a way to incorporate some form of reflective material (like the stuff you see on road worker vests) into their bike schemes.. I have often thought that thru the years.. On all front, rear and both sides.. Maybe even a totally reflective glass body Dont mind me,, I am just really really tired of people getting hurt out there:bighug:
  8. Dont let em get cha brother,,, that Suzi/Kawi merger happened years ago and its going strong to this day.. I find it interesting that they duplicate models (different colors to match the names though), obviously taking advantage of name strength in demographic areas.. Now toss that crow away and enjoy some fried chicken for your ol pal will ya:bighug: June 6, 2002 Irvine, CA - (MCNW) Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. has unveiled its 2003 off-road motorcycle and all terrain vehicle (ATV) line-up to a gathering of media serving those recreational vehicle categories. The company also took advantage of the product presentation to clarify its position regarding the announcement made in Japan last year of a strategic alliance between Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. and Suzuki Motor Corporation. Kawasaki executives provided an overview of favorable market conditions in the off-road motorcycle category and showed a full complement of two-wheeled units to meet what they see as a significant industry-wide sales surge in the next two years. Models introduced included competition, enduro, and dual purpose motorcycles. The company is equally bullish regarding the expanding ATV market, and sees industry retail sales for the four-wheeled vehicles moving close to 900,000 units by the end of next year. That would represent twice the total number of units retailed in 1998. The most rapidly growing segments in the ATV area have been in the youth-sized and sport categories during the past 12 months, according to the company. Kawasaki's latest introductions are weighted to meet those consumer preferences, said Bob Shepard, Executive Vice President, Marketing Group. The alliance between Kawasaki and Suzuki is intended to increase competitiveness and profitability on a worldwide basis for both brands. Cooperation in development, supplying OEM products and commonizing and purchasing of parts compliments each other's business resources.

    Busted!

Hmmmmmmmm,,,, so,, how much is your bail this time ya troublemaker? I know a couple fellers down there who are members here that would probably volunteer to come get cha, problem is if they did they would probably be sharing a cell with ya.. Ya right:thumbdown: That scene would have went down like this ,,, "man these things are AWESOME,, hard to explain,,, tell ya what, climb on my cruiser and I will jump in yours and follow ya with the lights flashing and siren on just to give you a good feel for what riding my bike is like" :rotf::rotf::rotf: GREAT PICTURE THOUGH GARY!!
  10. :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf: Laughed till I got tears in my eyes on that Diddy!! However, PLEASE know I am not laughing AT you but with you brother 1%er!! Interesting thing about our club,, we dont need no 3 part patch to KNOW we are members and our swollen knuckles aint from fightin! Bronco - thanks for sharing your story!! Bottom line in the "Clubs", especially for recruitment purposes, is the offering of a sense of belonging/security/acceptance/respect/pride and having fun with "Family".. Things we all have need of as human beings. Many folks who get involved are shocked to find out afterwards how difficult it can be to recant their membership if/when they find out they no longer find those things fulfilled.. I am happy for you and proud of you that you found your way out and to our family here on VR.. There are many great people on the site from all walks of life that, hopefully, you will take the time and meet. Just like the rest of us, whether young or old, I also hope you find your time with us very fulfilling and rewarding! Puc Truthfully, I think its just nature of the beast Don being an air-cooled big twin.. Tippy and I have spent a LOT of hours on the Ultra Classic Limited (103") and ridden many miles with our friends that own it and can attest to exactly what you have found.. Just an opinion, I think that HD (like everyone else) chasing the big bore idea (74" - 80" - 88" - 95" - 96" - 103" - 110") and running em leaner (fuel injection) has not helped with the heat at all.. Personally, I think the coolest running HD I have ever owned and put a LOT of cross country miles on was my 78 Shovel with an oil cooler.. It ran WAYYYYY cooler than these new ones do!! Tell ya one thing HD has done right in helping with the heat my friend.. Moving that oil tank down from the right hand side of the fuel tank like on this ol WLA is a MAJOR improvement!! 90 degree summer day riding with that HOT 50 weight oil flowing like 10 weight can make your thigh feel like a thigh from Kentucky Fried Chicken!!
  11. Tippys homemade Banana Waffles for lunch,, Prayers Up - Blessings Down

  16. :clap2::clap2: An early THANK YOU for doing this Bill (and to all those involved!!)!!! May I suggest that someone send LoneEagle a message begging him to PLEASE get his Indian friends to start their dry weather dance for that week NOW!! I have NO idea who his contacts are in this regard but I do know from experience that they do a super job!!
  17. This may or may not help in their situation.. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12536 Even though written from one of my experiences with a 1st Gen, most hydraulic systems (be it brake or clutch related) are subject to dirty hydraulic fluid (brake fluid) causing situations like you are describing Phoneman.. Given, a dirty piston or two or four can/will cause the problem too BUT this article describes a scenario where a stuck brake is not dirty piston related.. An easy way to find out whether its piston or blockage in the purge hole is to loosen the bleeder valve on which ever caliper is sticking with the brakes being stuck.. If loosening the bleeder valve relieves pressure and releases the calipers hold on the brake pad it is probably not a stuck piston and more than likely a blocked purge hole..
  18. HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOZZY!! YOU ARE LOVED AND APPRECIATED MORE THAN WORDS CAN SAY!! :Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886
  19. YEEEEHAWWWWW!!! Hmmmmmm,,, make sure you let that Fritz the Cat feller know your plans will ya Barry?? I liked him too,, he was my kinda guy.. Always willing to share family secrets and very very proud of his new bike just like his brother..

  21. Hmmmm,, talk about mixed emotions,, I wanna cry for your lost love but can sure see why ya did it!!! That Wing is GORGEOUS!!! :dancefool: CONGRATS MECH!!!!
  22. WOW BRD,, I can totally relate to your situation (and I KNOW lots of others here can too).. I have had 5 back surgeries myself and KNOW full well of the suffering that goes with both the issues leading up to and after surgerys. My friend, I tried everything from pain killers, therapy and even electric shock therapy (they implant a wire along side the spine with electrodes on it, then implant a small pace maker device that sends a signal thru the wire to disrupt nerve signals - worked great until my body rejected the device).. I can tell you that without the surgeries I would still be in a wheel chair today!! It took a long time to hook up with the correct Neuro Surgeon who finally found the bone fragments at my L5/Sac on an MRI and those were very very tough years on both me physically and emotionally.. Besides being extremely draining on finances, it was also VERY hard on our family life.. I also spent over a year in a turtle shell (and good lord, the drug therapy was unreal) before life began to settle back down.. There is nothing fun about living in pain, not being able to sleep at night, being grumpy with the ones you love, not being able to do the things you love.. Those are very very hard times my friend!! I HIGHLY commend you for taking the steps to find relief and for having the courage to do so!! I know of all the scary info (being told the things that can happen both during and after surgery is disconcerting to say the least) but can also tell you, to me it was worth the risks and I am sooooooooo glad I did them!! As I recall, removal of part of the disc is called a Discectomy (sp).. If that rings a bell with you and nothing has changed in the procedure, I have some very strong advice.. Talk to your Doctor about this.. When they remove that little piece of meat from the bulging disc a "void" is present where the bulge once was.. That tiny void takes time to fill in to the point that the shaved edge of the disc has support.. If pressure is applied to the spine and presses down on the remaining disc before the void fills in the disc can easily reherniate - NOT GOOD!! I was told that most failures with this type of surgery are the result of the above!! People come home feeling great and wanna get right back to living and overdo it... Listen to your Doctor closely!! You have my thoughts and prayers Brd for an excellent recovery and a return to the madness we all love!! Godspeed Puc
  23. WOW is THAT pretty!! Outstanding piece of work there Jonas!!:clap2: Now,,, is that the 2015 Venture we have all been waiting for? Ya listening Yamaha??
  24. Thoughts and prayers for all involved BJ!!
