Any of you guys remember nickle Cherry Phosphates at the soda fountain? I always ordered mine unstirred. Then slowly sip it down to the syrup..

Really well put their bro!! "Loner" was the nickname my Grandfather gave me,, guess he noticed that even at a very young age I couldnt help but swim against the stream, so to speak.. That name followed me all the way into young adulthood, including the early "biker" years like your "Lunatic" days:rotf:.. Man, I agree with ya about the modern stuff.. Loner (the 59) just wreaked of those days long gone by,, a since of "soul" or something else really deep.. With its right side shift, magneto, 10 over Grass Hopper forks and it being a hardtail it had the true Stallion of days gone by attitude!! We just pulled in from Harley Demo Days at our local HD shop about 20 minutes ago.. They had one of the new Limited Lows.. Pretty cool bike really.. They have narrowed the primary case (dealer said very very few people noticed that), seat was low formed so you sit in a "U" (didnt really care for that aspect),, gotta sit a good couple inches lower than last years ultra's.. Anyway, wife and I are cruising along yakking about exactly what you mentioned brother.. She asked what I thought of this gorgeous new bike.. I said,, "this modern stuff stuff is AMAZING! No shaking, quiet, no oil spots on our jeans and this thing feels like if I knew how to program it - it would autopilot itself"... Than I said,, "crazy as this sounds,, I miss the old days".. I think what is really missing is the human to machine connection that a grubby, long stringy haired, grease covered biker instilled in his bike with his own heart:confused24: With all due respect of you and your past and out of my love for those old Panheads, if you get a chance and bump into that pic of your 59 I would LOVE to see it!

WOW David,, Casper the Friendly Ghost (singing the theme while I type), The Lone Ranger, Roy and Dale, those little plastic 45 record inserts, Xray Glasses, SeaMonkeys, Elvis.. I was just little kid and it all just popped right back in my mind like it was yesterday! Thanks for the memories! Puc

You must have adding this while I was typing! Good on ya Bill - HD made a lot of changes on the Sporties and the newer the better! GOOD ones started in 07! If you have ANY interest at all in making it run really good a Tuner is a MUST have.. I only mention this because Harley has a way of obsoleting stuff fairly quickly, if there was one part that I STRONGLY suggest that you dont wait on its finding a tuner for it (again, only if you think you may wanna "play" with it someday).. Anything else, even though the parts may go obsolete, seem to be readily available all the way back into the AMF bikes!! Thats a very nice model year, extremely good motors. The thing I really like about the sporty is they are gear driven cams stock - no cam chains or tensioners to worry about.. WOW,, THAT is exciting that you won it!! TOTALLY AWESOME!! :cool10::cool10:

CONGRATS BILL!! THOSE ARE AWESOME BIKES!! Helped a neighbor build his 07 up over the summer. It was an 883, took it out to 1200 - 52mm throttle body - cams - high comp pistons - tuner and pipes = 103 rear wheel horses:cool10::cool10: Suckers a RIOT to ride, talk about nimble - like riding a dirtbike!! Helped another neighbor turn one into a 3 wheeler. Talk about a BALL to ride.. Its like a big Honda 350X!! Those sportys are soooooo freaking versatile it aint funny! There is soooooo much out there for em!! Can I ask what year/model yours is, is it an 883 or 1200, how many miles? Not that it matters cause ANYTIME a buddy wins a motorcycle its a day to celebrate with him! CONGRATS my man, have fun with your new scoot brother!! THAT IS AWESOME!!!!! Ride it like you stole it Bill,,, or in your case - ride like you won it!:rotf: Puc

Good on the Iron Head, not so much on the 750 Don.. Those 750's were left side exhaust outlets for flat trackin (that ol XR750 is REALLY RARE!!).. This was a 1st year (59) 900 XLCH (had the magneto and was kick only) IronHead.. Pretty rare motor that I was VERY fortunate to run across.. Besides being an AMAZING motor (were dominate in Hill Climbing, Drag Racing for many years) they came with a well known flaw right from the factory (no - not oil leaks - they did that but that was NOT a flaw - if it leaked it had oil in it:rotf:),, the kicker bendix was KNOWN for releasing just before the kick start lever was at the bottom of the throw,, many many knees were blown out because of folks not knowing how to kick them (step down on it with a straight leg - dont bend your knee!!).. There were all kinds of myths around about the broken legs being caused by back firing because the mags were set in the wrong position and such when almost ALL knee injuries were caused by that stupid little disengaging bendix!! I put BRAND NEW parts in this one and, yep,, every once in a while - pow! Another interesting thing about those early year HD's,, they came titled to the motor and NOT the frame.. I actually got the title with the Engine (back then, if you purchased a Harley motor without a title there was a good chance it was hot).. Than when I purchased the frame at a swap meet (Amen Hardtail = 150 bucks) it was stamped and came with a 68 title of its own.. When I sold the bike I actually handed the guy 2 titles for it,, crazy eay:backinmyday:

Stick a hunk of gas line in through the filler hole, put a syringe (tapered end used for farm animals available at ag stores) on the gas line and suck some out.. You can also use just suck it out with your mouth like but it tastes icky if ya suck to hard:rotf:

CONGRATS!! Glad it worked out for you Motiv!!

If the Grand Prize is available to or we opened the Grand Prize up to ALL supporting members, whether present at the Rally or not and advertised it as such, IMHO a cash prize would be the most inviting = more playing = higher pay out for both the OPE and the winner. Winning a Grand Prize that has to be shipped adds expense and there is always the risk of winning something one doesnt need or cant use, doesnt seem like it would be as appealing to the broad spectrum. I think a 50/50 split on the total Grand Prize $$'s accumulated would be fair with NO LIMIT on the amount, just split what ever it is 50/50,, it is what it is. Make THIS the GRAND PRIZE and keep the other 50/50 drawing (s) or other prize drawings for people attending the Rally.. If there is a concern about this having a reverse affect on people actually attending the Rally we could get creative on the numbers and do a 50/50 split if present, if not attending the split is 60/40 in favor of the OPE account.. Its possible that another attraction to increase the amount of folks willing to join in on the Grand Prize drawing would be a list of Vendors who would be willing to sell their goods at a discounted rate to the Grand Prize winner.. That way, if they needed bike related stuff their winnings could be stretched.. Kinda of an added attraction as it were.. (just thinking out loud here ) One of the HUGE problems here in our area has been the economy. I know that there are area's in the U.S. that are going strong but I also know (from traveling and interacting with many folks) that our area here in Michigan is not alone in its difficulty to overcome the financial crunch. We also have a number of folks still raising kids, some on fixed incomes, people with college bills, people with medical bills and on and on who I am sure could appreciate the $$'s at this time.. One really really nice thing about a cash Grand Prize would be that it may end up helping someone who really needs it and even encourage someone to take that much needed refreshing ride on their bike. The idea's of PrePaid Credit Cards, Gas Cards, Hotel Cards, Gift Cards and the like are all good idea's BUT,,, cash with no strings attached by the sellers of the cards just seems like the best way to go in todays market... Plus, 10 - 100 dollar bills (give or take a few of em) just feeeels better than a piece of plastic..:cool10: Puc

Condolences to you, Peg and Cash on the loss of part of your family Buddy! That was really thoughtful of you to handle the situation like you did! RIP Dakota Puc

Thanks Don,, I really enjoyed building em and riding em,, lots and lots of fun!! It would be GREAT if the economy would snap back,, I would LOVE to go back at it!! Good guess DJ!! Both are 750 SOHC Honda's, stock motors. The red one is a 72 motor on a 1971 Amen Savior frame (notice the plungers). 12 over girder.. Came out real pretty.. The black one was one I kept for a while after building it.. It was a 69 motor and 69 Santee Soft Ride frame. 18 over Cali Springer.. An interesting thing on the springer,, I picked it up for 175 bucks at the Gilmore Museum Bike Meet in Kalamazoo Mi.. The rockers were locked up tight on it and I was expecting to end up rebushing it.. When I nocked the rockers apart it became obvious that it had NEVER been on a bike - the original bushings still had ream marks in em - GORGEOUS PIECE!! Being a the Soft Ride frame and length of springer it rode like a DREAM!! I actually rode it out to the Sturgis Rally 3 times from Michigan!! I built a bunch of em (for a living) thru the years.. Here's some shots of a 59 I did.. Lets see if anyone can guess the motor on this one! And if so,, lets see if you chopper lovers can guess the front end - only made em 2 years!!

Brother am I glad you included EATS in that list! For some of us it just wouldnt feeeel right to not look like a homeless person :rotf:

OR,, there have been lots of us sending our thoughts and prayers towards all you folks who we have been hearing about in the news:stirthepot:... Those weather forecasters dont stand a chance against the One who really controls the weather.. Either way,,,, really glad you finally got a chance to get the bike out KIC - 7 weeks is a long time! Just be glad you dont live downwind from my buddy in Wisconsin, could be months instead of weeks :rotf::rotf: GORGEOUS PIC - THANKS! Puc

Man,, I dont know Semi,,,, that saying in your sig by Bob Seger sure sounds inviting to me personally:cool10: Driftin along with the front wheel pointed in a Southwesterly direction and, as YammerDan would say,, follow it!! But thats just ol Pucs heart speakin.. Back road driftin to Gettysburg, the Curtis Museum, Barr Harbour, Bay of Fundy, finding old coal mines in the Appalacians, Holocaust Museum - Ground Zero Memorial - boat ride to Staten Island NYC - Arlington (no back roads though), camping at the Finger Lakes, tidal bore hunting in Nova Scotia, refinding that great big Moose on the eastern seaboard wherever it was :rotf:all would be a BLAST!! If you do decide to head toward the Dragon,, the Red River Gorge area in KY is an amazing back road ride too!! As far as the how many miles question,, thats a toughy,,, I say ride your ride my friend.. What ever leaves you both smiling at the end of the day is whats important.. Bottom line my friend, no matter what you decide or where you folks head,, I wanna wish you both the TIME OF YOUR LIVES!! Ride safe, take some pictures for us and have fun!

Leo,, those pics are AWESOME - THANK YOU FOR SHARING!! Looks like you folks had a fantastic journey - CONGRATS! Man I love the west! Puc

No doubt about it,, I would ride it!! I love those old chops - of course, it being a hard tail I wouldn't ride it very far! I am sure I would give up before Tippy would! I LOVE those old panheads, they had a sound and look that was just incredible! The affect that the Easyrider movie had on the public back then was amazing.. I wore a Captain America helmet while motocrossing and harescrambling back in the day. I still have an original EasyRider posters.. Those were crazy times back than, has taken a good while but motorcycling has changed.. For the better I might add!! Man thats a LOT of money, think of the impact something like could have at St. Judes:bighug:

I love quotes,,, especially those made by those close to me.. I wonder..

Not sure I wanna even get involved in this BUT,, if someone takes Condors comment to the next level and starts that goofy "Why" thread back up,,, that person would be classified as a "TWINKY", IMHO of course... -
INDEED JOE!! WHAT A MESS!! So Jack,, any chance you folks will see some of that much needed water from the Hurricane? I have heard that the weather from the baja is up into Vegas?? Maybe Coff will fill us in if he reads this!! Sounds like a bad one, lots of folks needing our thoughts and prayers - THEY GOT EM (and so do you drought sufferers)!!

I know I was having some of those same issues a while back.. Resetting Firefox (my browser) seemed to help a lot.. The member here who explained how to reset Firefox mentioned that IE can also be reset, I think:whistling:.. Also, cleaning out your temporary files (cache) would probably help too.. I think that increases the amount of Memory accessible which is where those pictures are probably being loaded to.. I am guessing at this,, lets see if some puter wiz will come on now and verify my understandings here...
