Just ran across this article in Thunder Roads.. Would have loved to have met you, :bighug:you and THANKED YOU in person Chester.. That is really to bad Brake Pad, the word picture you just painted could have (and, IMHO, should have) been painted with a different brush - the brush of a reminder of personal responsibility.. We have a large number of friends/neighbors who ride and we have many many group rides going on any given weekend. For some reason, I always end up being selected as road captain (people like getting lost I guess).. I ALWAYS remind people (we seem to get a lot of new comers to the group) before we leave of one of my favorite sayings = "ride YOUR ride".. A couple weekends ago we had 12 bikes, came to a corner that I throttled thru, got a couple blocks down the road and noticed I was missing three bikes from the end of the group. Went back to find a new rider on her new bike in the field beside the corner. She had not fallen, just said she was afraid to "lean" her bike and rolled into the field.. One of the other people started in on me about taking the corners to fast (same person who had chimed in about two hours earlier that I was going to slow ) causing this person to miss the corner.. Amazingly, the person who missed the corner chimed in and said "no - your wrong - Scott didnt miss the corner - I DID, I forgot to "ride my ride" and that is what went wrong".. I never had to defend myself, I just smiled and THANKED her for her wisdom!! We have all ridden together since and everyone learned and grew thru that experience.. Regrettably,, as fun as motorcycling is, I truly think it is a BAD place to begin learning personal responsibility as there are many many examples of the cost of learning it thru biking resulting in the loss of human life = price is to high!!

AWESOME!!! And, unlike Don,, I NEED one!!

Sometimes ya just gotta walk away, THAT is a FACT!! Thoughts and prayers for what ever your dealing with RBig! Speak to it brother:backinmyday: (Puc version of DITTO)

That is exactly where I am Larry and what I use,, I really like that set - it has all the adapters and came in very handy when building inline 4 chops a number of years ago.. Have done a variety of bikes - just did a 79 Wing for a buddy.. For the price, very well made! Nothing steadier thats for sure.. I did own a "Twin Max" electronic balancer for while (got stolen) and it was amazing how accurate it was and was a joy to work with - talk about as close to perfect as possible.. The only problem was, you could only dial in two at a time - not a big deal on the Yam but other intake designs = not practical.. Not sure if TwinMax now offers a 4 cyl model now or not..

I LOVE IT!!! Those are the kinda contraptions that a bettin man could lose a LOT of money betting against.. Just looking at the tires, much less apparent lack of decent steer ability coupled with a belt drive looking garden tractor motor it would be really hard to believe that thing would run like that!!! If its one of those photo chop deals, they sure did a good job,,,, if its real they sure did a GREAT job!!
-
Your betcha bro!! Another one of those roadways that leave ya scratching your head wondering how in the world they built that roller coaster ride :rotf:and the scenery is breath taking!! And we LOVED Stewarts Point,,, nothing there really,, just a quaint little hole in the wall spot on a few million dollars worth of real estate,,,, makes ya wanna plop down the tent and never leave.. Small world, cool that our paths in history crossed there eay!!

So sorry to read this but SOOOOOOOOO glad the results were not worse (broken pelvis is bad enough!!). You are in our thoughts and prayers for proper and full healing! Prayers Up Puc

Cant add much to the statistical side for ya ALW but gotta say,,, I bumped into a bunch of them there Star Rider folks out on the west coast (VentureWest Rally) this last summer and they were really great people.. Why there was even a young Lady in that Star bunch who I swear, never shuts her bike off and never sleeps!! And her bike was REALLY tricked out!! Point being,, they definitely had the passion for motorcycling and really were great people!! Interesting point,, I was chatting with one of them Star Riders about one of the most awesome places Tip and I have ridden,, a little no-name road called "Skaggs Creek Road" (should be a national park in itself) out in California and, come to find out,, she was very familiar with it.. Out of all the people I have mentioned that road to, she was the first that had even heard of it,,, pretty cool really!!!

WOW Len, sounds like you folks had a ball down there!! One of these years we are gonna make it!!! Congrats on a fun, safe journey and THANKS for the great write up,,, hate to sound like a whiny ol geezer but, pictures,, did you happen to take any pictures,,, some of us love pictures Any idea what retail is on that new Dresser Indian?? I too have ridden em a few times (havent ridden the new Dresser though) and was very impressed with what Polaris did with that motor design - really sweet.. I honestly thought that if they would have come out with their pricing a couple thou below comparable bikes in the HD line they would have sold A LOT of bikes.. Even for the first couple years, just to get em out into the real world for testing.. Told one of the reps that at a demo we went to and he kinda laughed and said, "we arent trying to take away riders from HD" ...

Hmmmm,, let me think on that for a second,,, no chance,, tack on another 29000 and your passed gas might get noticed Get this,, the weekend of the auction is also Tippy's birthday (11th),,,, sitting out front this morning I says to her I says,,, "ya know,, I been thinkin,,, wouldnt it be fun to go see the girls in Sac for your birthday :whistling:",, she gets this funny look on her face,,,,,,, and says "ok,,, whats up" . Shoulda heard the ensuing discussion that took place after that,, something about "reading me like a book"

Aint that the truth! Or, in our case Dale, had a bunch of the Hells Angels behind ya who the dork also cut off, sit back and watch as they turn that new 4x4 upside down in the parking lot and leave.. Then have your camera ready for when the guy walks out of the Store:rotf: Frank, soooo glad you and Barb got thru that ordeal in good shape!! That saying of Venturous Randy's (or whatever the heck his name is now) about riding like your invisible to others can sure come true in an instant.. Like my ol Basket Ball coach used to scream at us - DEFENSE, DEFENSE.. Sounds like you had the same coach and you LISTENED!!

Guess it would totally depend on the deal for me.. Lets say the difference being made up in cash was gonna get me out of debt on the bike and I didnt use it enough to make it worth owning, yep,, I would do it.. Or,, lets say it was gonna make it so I could spend the summer touring the country, going from party to party, sleeping out on the prairie and up in the mountains, coasting down those mountains with my best friend Tippy, riding HWY 1 along the west coast, looking for tidal bores up in Nova Scotia, being broke down and meeting new GREAT friends because of it... Hmmmm,, yea I would do it,,, those 1st Gens are very capable bikes. On the other hand,, if the deal were not that "sweet" and you gotta choose 1 as an everyday rider,,,, there is a HUGE difference between owning a newer bike and one that is 20 years older.. We didnt name our 83 "Tweeks" because I never have to work on it!

Don and family, condolences on the loss of Annie.. That ol saying about a dog being man's best friend is so true and its meaning never speaks closer to the heart than upon their death. RIP Annie and thank you for the devotion, love and companionship that you so unconditionally gave! Puc

WOW ZEEEE WOW WOW WOW PARTNER - hmmmmmmmmm,,, suppose the right thing to do is jump on the bike, head to Wilton, visit with the kids, eat an ice cream cone at Leatherby's with you and EasyRider than all of us go to that auction and see if we can find something mundane by actually being there!!!! It's raining it's pouring.... the old man is snoring
cowpuc replied to Condor's topic in Watering Hole
Condor,, riding north out of Sac this summer we couldnt help but notice a HUGE reservore/lake area that was pretty much empty.. It was MASSIVE, some of it was actually dried up and parts of it did have some boats in it still playing around.. It looked like it may have been a couple hundred feet deep!! I am thinking it was still in California,, maybe just before crossing into Oregon.. Seems like it was after that town where Lone Eagle and the gang stayed at the Motel,,, Red Bluff I think.. Any idea the name of that Res and if the rain you are getting will help fill that puppy up some? -
IT DONT GET NO BETTER THAN THAT!!!!!
-
WOW!! GORGEOUS PICS and an AWESOME story - thanks for posting! So,, was that Harley you were working on just someone you stopped to help or was it part of your party? Either way,, GOOD ON YA for lending a hand!! Puc

Glad you folks are FINALLY getting that much needed rain Jack!! Now you and EasyRider can spend more time enjoying that Banana Nut ice cream without the worrys of having your yards spontaneously combust!!!!! that you all get a good start at refilling some reservores!! -
Tweeks has an exhaust system that,, well,, is basically a rolling Weld Shop supply of .035 Mig wire and 1/8 inch brazing rod.. The remaining holes and bad gasket in her right side exhaust serve as a warning device for the same folks you wave at Bob.. I spot em, nod to Tippy (her headshake and smirk when I do this is priceless), pull up with the right side exhaust just ahead of the drivers window, back off the throttle and Tweeks says "STOP KILLIN PEOPLE" by laying the prettiest golden egg sonic BOOOOM imaginable! Lots of fun in tunnels, under bridges and for waking Tip up after 16 hours in the saddle too!!

Yeaaaa,,, forget it Jeff,, its probably just condensate from the condenser on that white wash machine... ... Hey,, wait a minute here,,, better idea would be to drill a few holes in that condenser, let the refrigerant out of it,, problem solved!! Glad you found the issue bro! Puc
