  1. THATS MY SON RIDING LIKE A CHAMP!!! Wish we were there Coff,,, what the heck is a MSF ERC:confused24:,, probably should have asked that before I said I wish we were there BUT,, because it involves you and motorcycles I am pretty sure that was a safe claim
  2. Way neat Pete!! Thanks for sharing!! Loved their bikes and the story too! 2 wheels + motor = fun, fun + really good friends = great memories, great memories x life together = everlasting brotherhood...
  3. Many years ago I had a 65 Barracuda that had a Vacuum Gauge mounted on the dash.. By screwing around watching the gauge and maintaining a steady high vacuum on it I could increase my fuel economy considerably... I wonder if this same rule would apply in todays world of modern technology:confused24:
  4. Hey Jeff, Not trying to poke holes in your idea or be a nay sayer but,, I wonder if confined spaces coupled with trying to get the bike up and down off the center stand might could get ugly... I also wonder if using a regular hydraulic bike lift/jack would be a better pathway.. You could modified one or build to fit exactly your needs.. Just thinking out loud here..
  5. Bet he didnt get much better with his bike pulling allllll those Pecan Pies across Florida than he does with his truck Jack:rotf: Thought I would have forgotten reading about that by now didnt cha Brake Pad?
  6. DO THAT!!! Matter of fact,, the more knowledgeable you become about anything that perks your interest, the less chance of Buyers Remorse you have!! THE most important thing is getting a new bike that YOU are gonna enjoy your time on!! That said,, the buying season is upon us!! You can use Adhuntr.com (searches Craigs all over the country) and find all kinds of dealers offering GREAT prices on left overs.. I also watch Ebay closely throughout the winter months and am shocked by bike prices in certain locations.. Last year (bought and resold over 10 Harleys) the hot spots were California, Texas and Florida.. Just takes a little research time but really really good deals are out there.. Heads up with Ebay,, sort by "newest listed" if looking for new left overs with low buy it now prices.. I personally know of 4 dealerships (ones even a Harley Shop) that buys LOTS of bikes this way for their showrooms.. Ya gotta get em right away or the good deals are gone!! Might be wise to also check on the transferability of remaining warranties on used bikes.. Realistically, if you run across a slightly used RSV that was purchased as a left over at less than half of MSRP,,, well,,, nothing wrong with saving a buck... Harley has come a longgggg way in their dependability arena, the latest Twin Cam (09 and up) seems to be a pretty solid machine (I do know of a number of Switch Backs that have had problems though but for some reason, only that model:confused24:).. I have seen a number of them now with well over 100k on em.. The key there seems to lay in finding a way to run them in stock form and be happy with their performance.. Truely,, the main complaint I have heard from Ultra/Road Glide Riders (including Freebird) has been about getting hot BUT that is not the same as a dependability complaint.. Didnt notice the Wing on your list either Rouger,,, may wanna get at least a test ride on that 1800,,, sure seems like LOTS of family members on here are showing up with smiles on their faces from that bike!! What ever you end up with, get the bike that fits your ride style and is appealing to YOU:080402gudl_prv:,, then,, RIDE THAT PUPPY TILL THE COWS COME HOME!! Puc

Could not agree with you more Neil - NOTHING LIKE HAVING FAMILY ALLLLLLLL OVER THE GLOBE!! Wish you weren't just IMAGINING being here VentureFar,,, I got a fresh batch of smoked chicken in the fridge, getting ready to go chase Salmon with hopes of having a nice batch of it smoked up too!! Stuff those Kanucks in your luggage and bring them too - we'll have a chicken and fish eating party while we tease that old Harley in the garage!! Stop imagining and get here will ya:stirthepot: Lucky bunch of lop eared varmints.. Puc
  10. Wish our local Indian dealer was closer Art,, I would be stopping in there daily to try and catch a peek at one myself!!! They sure are pretty in pictures!! Definitely a head turner!! Be awesome if Polaris hit on something that actually did make Harley squint a little,, competition is good for all of us - its the American way!!!
  11. I have a favorite non-biased MPG site that shows your mileage/fuel usage pretty normal for that truck = http://fueleconomy.org/feg/PowerSearch.do?action=noform&path=1&year1=2002&year2=2002&make=Dodge&model=Ram%201500%20Pickup%202WD&srchtyp=ymm I would say, a really good tune up, making sure your plugs are gapped properly (if they havent been checked in while they are probably wide), new air filter - check the air track and make sure its all open, set of good wires, make sure tire pressures are all up to snuff, run with the tail gate down when possible, make no sudden stops (coast to a stop when ya can) easy on the throttle - use the cruise set at 65 on Hwy... At that mileage, you could drop a compression test on it and see if you have a low reading on a cylinder or two BUT,, with 15 MPG being "normal" in comparison for other trucks like yours,,, I doubt thats an issue..
  12. Hope the knee is doing better Sparti!! Sounds like you learned lesson No. 1 when dealing with these big ol heavy bikes,,, when a fight breaks out between gravity and your bike let them figure out who wins... I know when I am bruised up and have to sit still I love to read cheerful motorcycle related storys. In that spirit, here is a true story that happened to my cousin and I while riding our bikes out to California a number years ago.. He was a newbie at the time, I had many miles of ride time and should have known better.. We pulled into a fuel station near Bodaga Bay, Chip on his 1100 Virago, me on my Blonde 84.. After filling his bike he rolled it over beside me and pointed to the tank. Fuel was leaking out around the gas cap and he couldnt get it to stop. I told him he over filled it in the heat.. I suggested leaning it down a little and letting it flow for minute.. I leaned out to hold the left grip of his bike while balancing my fully packed Venture between my legs, he held my right grip to steady his lean,, instantly we were on the ground with both of us trapped between our bikes:rotf: People were walking past a tangled up mess consisting of two fully packed motorcycles trying to press two grown men into the concrete.. I know they saw us cause they were pointing at us and laughing but no one offered to come help.. I looked at my cousin and said "I think they think its The Chip and Scott Comedy Hour or something",, the laughter helped the pain A LOT for both of us!! Its not IF my friend, its WHEN.. Puc
  13. Who ever wrote - IT DONT HURT UNLESS THE BONE IS SHOWING - never leaned his bare leg against a hot motorcycle exhaust header..
  14. I am with Zag on the Red Coat, have used many "Tank Coat" methods and Red Coat has worked the best of the best, IMHO. MEK works great for the cut too, Acetone will also work but it seems to evaporate real fast, either way be sure to listen to Zags advice about NO SMOKING and working in good ventilation!! By the way, one of the best prep methods for coating (or just to clean the tank) that I have found is soaking the tank internally with white vinegar.. Fill it up and let it set a few days,, stuff eats rust!! You could try this too, figure out which carb has the float sticking, try tapping on that carb bowl with the handle of screw driver or wood dowel.. If it does shut off as the pump brings the carb up to full, turn the bike off, drain the bowl down and try it again just to check it.. Also not a bad idea to run it for a while with an overflow hose for that carb positioned into an area where you can check it periodically,, at least to the point that you know you can trust it to not stick. Keeping a screw driver/dowel handy to give her a tap if you need to during this process aint a bad idea either.. KEEP MCGYVERING MCGYVER, WE ARE ALL ROOTING FOR YA!!!
  15. This may be a long shot Bay but what the heck, when it comes to getting rid of numb butt anything is worth a try.. It is possible that just being new to biking and riding tensed up can cause it.. You might discuss with her the idea of focusing on doing some relaxing techniques while she is riding.. Perhaps the Arm Rests that you suggested would increase her sense of security and help in relaxing too,, not a bad idea IMHO. Being uncomfortable with moving her legs around, changing foot positions, partially standing up occasionally long before the numbness sets in can all contribute greatly too.. Besides being able to see 360 degrees and being in the fresh air, one of the really great things my wife enjoys about riding the bike cross country instead of being in a "Cage" is exactly that,,, being able to move around while on the go to avoid the "numbness" from riding in a car... Bottom line,, I, like lots of folks on here, cannot count the times that I have suggested a newbie rider spend time in a parking lot alone, getting accustomed to their bike before hitting the open road.. Practice makes perfect so to speak.. I personally think someone who is new to being a passenger deserves the same opportunity to get alone with her hubby and the bike, developing passenger skills (riding on the back takes some learned skill too you know).. That all being said, I would stay off the highways and crowded area's until she is comfortable and tells you she is ready, nothing wrong with that.. Our local Harley shop uses their parking lot for training purposes so they have it all painted up and laid out.. Tip and I love to sneak down there and practice two up slow riding, keeping those "riding together skills" up to snuff.. Good place to have her standing up on the rider pegs while I am coming to stop,,, that kinda stuff.. Best wishes getting control of the numbness,, you two ride YOUR ride and and see where it leads! Puc
  16. They have a couple different sizes at Harbor Freight you might wanna take a peek at Angelo.. Good one! Right on the top of my list too Coff!! That and the hanger for our water jug, sure wouldnt wanna cross those deserts with em Sonshine!!
  17. The Michigan dealers have a bunch of leftover 2013's and 14's and are using the Military thousand dollar discount (notice the discounts cant be combined, California = HD ownership discount, MI = Military discount as example).. example = http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/mcd/4698828278.html Could be another interesting winter for left over new bike prices!! Also, anyone else notice that Polaris is dropping the 5 year warranty with the 15's and going to a 2 year instead? 5 year unlimited miles,,, hmmmm,,, wonder how many miles a man and his wife could do in 5 years of serious riding.. Think of the people you could meet, stickers and signatures you could accumulate and the sites you could see.. Wonder what that new Classic would look like after 5 years of camping on the Montana Mountain two tracks:stirthepot:
  18. Cager reads "Impassable Road Ahead", Biker reads "Adventure Begins Here". G.P.S. stands for Go Park Somewhere, we're riding and love getting lost!
  19. BEEEEEAAUTIFUL!! As I mentioned on youtube Darrin,, PLEASE let Mike know he did a FANTASTIC job!! Thanks for including us on your ride bro! Puc
  20. Bongo, Bongo, Bongo,,,,,,,,, will you quit messing around looking for loose change under the bed in the motel room and take that precious wife out for a romantic walk on the beach or something... YEEEEEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWWW ON MAUI BROTHER AND HIS BRIDE!! Hope you two are having a BALL!!!!! Glad the bruised knee aint messing up the walking,, KEEP ON KEEPIN ON!! Puc
  21. "Sheesh Randy,, you could have left some for the rest us" "Honey, I think our Voltage Regulator has a hole in it, all the smoke is leaking out" "Is your motorcycle a 2 cylinder or 4 stroke?" "I think I need a new power band" Puc to Chinese rep selling Honda Clone "Pit Bikes" at the Indianapolis Dealer Expo in 2001,, "Rotary Transmission idea NO GOOD"! Chinese to Puc,, "Much better, easier to fix when broke". Puc to Chinese,, "Being able to go from 4th to 1st by up shifting one extra click, it will ALWAYS be broke"..

  23. We dont got no 2nd Gen BUT I reckon I'll speak up anyway,,, my favorite accessory to date on my 1st Gens has got to be the mechanical thumb cruise control.. Electronic cruise took a dump on my 1st Royale years ago, picked up one of these mechanicals while touring, liked it so much I never looked back - actually use it wayyyyyyy more than I ever used the Electronic and have transfered it over and over again.. Tied for 1st place would have to be the little convex mirrors that stick onto the regular mirrors.... I would have picked my camera but thats really not a bike accessory I reckon...
  24. Or,,, just strap a set of the biggest, baddest, meanest Moose horns you can find to the front of your bike Dennis!!
  25. AWESOME :clap2:, and THANK YOU to all you great folks for ALL your hard work!! I just read a great quote by Marcarl that, IMHO, fits this thread perfectly: "We (the Committee) may not have it all together (yet), but, together we got it all."
