IMHO,, what you guys are probably noticing in vibration differences between the Harley and the others has to do with counterbalancing (Indian, Victory, Yam Strat and lots of others use it). Harley actually produces an "A" motor and a "B" motor, if my memory serves me correctly - the A motor is what you will find in the Ultra, Roadglide, Dyna's... The "B" motor is a counterbalanced motor and HD uses it in their Softails.. Just for kicks and giggles, if you get a chance to compare the two motors at a demo or something, take note that the B motors are solid mounted and extremely smooth, the A motors are rubber mounted - dance around in the frame and still produce an ample amount of shake in the bike to (judging from the sales of the A motored bikes like the Street Glide, compared to the very smooth B motored bikes) still please the masses.. Speaking Indian, I personally followed that 111 Indian motor pretty closely from original unveiling at Daytona.. Right away I picked up on several things that I REALLY liked.. The cam arrangement being one (gear drive). Right side drive belt (talk about easy belt swap,, if you have ever done a belt on big twin Harley you know what I mean). Gear driven primary.. As far as the counterbalanced motor,,, hmmmm,,, I like my V-TWINS to dance and shake,, I like my bars and front wheel to bounce around when I am sitting at a stop sign .. Now,, I dont like a "buzzing" feeling like you get if the cranks weights are out of phase a few thou but thats a different "feeling".. At any rate, that Indian motor is a gorgeous design in a gorgeous bike for sure and I bet if I could afford to own one I would learn to accept and love its smooth, balanced motor for what it is.. IMHO, Polaris got their slogan wrong,, it shouldnt be "Choice is here", it should be "Indian - making it that much harder to choose from a variety of great bikes"!!!

top 10 reasons why HD, GW & BMW riders wont wave...
cowpuc replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Watering Hole
I missed introducing myself to you too Bmiller!! To my own discredit, that happens farrrr to often to me .. As hard as I try to go around shaking peoples hands and making new friends, I ALWAYS feel bad when I discover that after riding hundreds (sometime thousands) of miles to get to a Rally (VR Rallys = Family Reunions to me) that I missed the golden chance to shake a new friends hand, or take a pic/make a vid!! THAT is one of the hardest parts of being part of such a huge family I guess!! I look forward to making up for a missed opportunity too brother!!! THANK YOU for sharing your feelings about my posts BMiller, hearing that makes me so we're square! I miss you too Barry (and love ya brother) :bighug:but dont know that I quite agree with that one of kind comment (THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENT),,,, watch this again, look carefully at what is in Sunn's hand resting on your left shoulder,, than watch that last couple of seconds of the vid at what you did :rotf:,,, sure looks and sounds like 3 of a kind brothers to me :rotf: PS,, also watch the people in the background PSS,, I have a bunch of pics/vids that I am going to be including in this winters writings about the summer adventures,,,, wait till you see and read some of those historical documents if your looking for one of kind - crazy people I tell ya,, down right CRAZY!!! -
top 10 reasons why HD, GW & BMW riders wont wave...
cowpuc replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Watering Hole
Top reason why I wave at all bikers,, including kids on minibikes/mopeds and dirtbikes. I LOVE riding anything with two wheels and a motor and I LOVE the people that ride too, really dont care whether they wave back or not Not only that,,, but when I am on my beat up ol 1st Gen with no second gear, 250K miles, laid back against Tippy, tent flappin in the wind, antelope horns whistling, stickers glistening in the sun, Utah prairie dust mixed with red Georgia clay all over the rims/engine and covered with signatures from the great people we met along the way,,,,, well,,,,,,,, I just assume that everyone KNOWS that ol Tweeks is THE "road king" and a wave back would be pointless :cool10::cool10::cool10::cool10::cool10::cool10: -
WHERE THERES A WILL THERES A WAY!! Isutley,,, your my kinda people!!

GORGEOUS COLOR!! Very very nice scheme too!! I gotta ask,,, what are those black things attached to the trunk?? Cant possibly be rod holders for trolling for Sockeye Salmon can they?? Also,,, I cant speak for Yammer Dan and wouldnt even attempt to but,,, my money is on his reply when he reads this thread is gonna be something like "the Blue Is Fastest statement only applies to 1st Gens,, if we are talking 2nd Gens the fastest happens to be Silver in color".. :rotf::rotf: VERY VERY NICE JOB AK!!
-
Oh man Hossman,, that happened right out my backdoor (45 minutes south) = hope the folks in Holland treated you with proper care!! Soooo sorry to hear about all this, thoughts and prayers that any wounds are healing quickly,, in procuring your next scoot!!

:rotf::rotf: "BUT Professor,, I did get half the equation right so I should have at least gotten half the points for that question",,,, and in this case I happen to have gotten the most important 1/2 of the equation correct = PECAN PIE!!!:cool10:

THATS MY SON RIDING LIKE A CHAMP!!! Wish we were there Coff,,, what the heck is a MSF ERC:confused24:,, probably should have asked that before I said I wish we were there BUT,, because it involves you and motorcycles I am pretty sure that was a safe claim

Way neat Pete!! Thanks for sharing!! Loved their bikes and the story too! 2 wheels + motor = fun, fun + really good friends = great memories, great memories x life together = everlasting brotherhood...

Many years ago I had a 65 Barracuda that had a Vacuum Gauge mounted on the dash.. By screwing around watching the gauge and maintaining a steady high vacuum on it I could increase my fuel economy considerably... I wonder if this same rule would apply in todays world of modern technology:confused24:

Hey Jeff, Not trying to poke holes in your idea or be a nay sayer but,, I wonder if confined spaces coupled with trying to get the bike up and down off the center stand might could get ugly... I also wonder if using a regular hydraulic bike lift/jack would be a better pathway.. You could modified one or build to fit exactly your needs.. Just thinking out loud here..

Bet he didnt get much better with his bike pulling allllll those Pecan Pies across Florida than he does with his truck Jack:rotf: Thought I would have forgotten reading about that by now didnt cha Brake Pad?

DO THAT!!! Matter of fact,, the more knowledgeable you become about anything that perks your interest, the less chance of Buyers Remorse you have!! THE most important thing is getting a new bike that YOU are gonna enjoy your time on!! That said,, the buying season is upon us!! You can use Adhuntr.com (searches Craigs all over the country) and find all kinds of dealers offering GREAT prices on left overs.. I also watch Ebay closely throughout the winter months and am shocked by bike prices in certain locations.. Last year (bought and resold over 10 Harleys) the hot spots were California, Texas and Florida.. Just takes a little research time but really really good deals are out there.. Heads up with Ebay,, sort by "newest listed" if looking for new left overs with low buy it now prices.. I personally know of 4 dealerships (ones even a Harley Shop) that buys LOTS of bikes this way for their showrooms.. Ya gotta get em right away or the good deals are gone!! Might be wise to also check on the transferability of remaining warranties on used bikes.. Realistically, if you run across a slightly used RSV that was purchased as a left over at less than half of MSRP,,, well,,, nothing wrong with saving a buck... Harley has come a longgggg way in their dependability arena, the latest Twin Cam (09 and up) seems to be a pretty solid machine (I do know of a number of Switch Backs that have had problems though but for some reason, only that model:confused24:).. I have seen a number of them now with well over 100k on em.. The key there seems to lay in finding a way to run them in stock form and be happy with their performance.. Truely,, the main complaint I have heard from Ultra/Road Glide Riders (including Freebird) has been about getting hot BUT that is not the same as a dependability complaint.. Didnt notice the Wing on your list either Rouger,,, may wanna get at least a test ride on that 1800,,, sure seems like LOTS of family members on here are showing up with smiles on their faces from that bike!! What ever you end up with, get the bike that fits your ride style and is appealing to YOU:080402gudl_prv:,, then,, RIDE THAT PUPPY TILL THE COWS COME HOME!! Puc

Wish our local Indian dealer was closer Art,, I would be stopping in there daily to try and catch a peek at one myself!!! They sure are pretty in pictures!! Definitely a head turner!! Be awesome if Polaris hit on something that actually did make Harley squint a little,, competition is good for all of us - its the American way!!!

I have a favorite non-biased MPG site that shows your mileage/fuel usage pretty normal for that truck = http://fueleconomy.org/feg/PowerSearch.do?action=noform&path=1&year1=2002&year2=2002&make=Dodge&model=Ram%201500%20Pickup%202WD&srchtyp=ymm I would say, a really good tune up, making sure your plugs are gapped properly (if they havent been checked in while they are probably wide), new air filter - check the air track and make sure its all open, set of good wires, make sure tire pressures are all up to snuff, run with the tail gate down when possible, make no sudden stops (coast to a stop when ya can) easy on the throttle - use the cruise set at 65 on Hwy... At that mileage, you could drop a compression test on it and see if you have a low reading on a cylinder or two BUT,, with 15 MPG being "normal" in comparison for other trucks like yours,,, I doubt thats an issue..

Hope the knee is doing better Sparti!! Sounds like you learned lesson No. 1 when dealing with these big ol heavy bikes,,, when a fight breaks out between gravity and your bike let them figure out who wins... I know when I am bruised up and have to sit still I love to read cheerful motorcycle related storys. In that spirit, here is a true story that happened to my cousin and I while riding our bikes out to California a number years ago.. He was a newbie at the time, I had many miles of ride time and should have known better.. We pulled into a fuel station near Bodaga Bay, Chip on his 1100 Virago, me on my Blonde 84.. After filling his bike he rolled it over beside me and pointed to the tank. Fuel was leaking out around the gas cap and he couldnt get it to stop. I told him he over filled it in the heat.. I suggested leaning it down a little and letting it flow for minute.. I leaned out to hold the left grip of his bike while balancing my fully packed Venture between my legs, he held my right grip to steady his lean,, instantly we were on the ground with both of us trapped between our bikes:rotf: People were walking past a tangled up mess consisting of two fully packed motorcycles trying to press two grown men into the concrete.. I know they saw us cause they were pointing at us and laughing but no one offered to come help.. I looked at my cousin and said "I think they think its The Chip and Scott Comedy Hour or something",, the laughter helped the pain A LOT for both of us!! Its not IF my friend, its WHEN.. Puc

Who ever wrote - IT DONT HURT UNLESS THE BONE IS SHOWING - never leaned his bare leg against a hot motorcycle exhaust header..

I am with Zag on the Red Coat, have used many "Tank Coat" methods and Red Coat has worked the best of the best, IMHO. MEK works great for the cut too, Acetone will also work but it seems to evaporate real fast, either way be sure to listen to Zags advice about NO SMOKING and working in good ventilation!! By the way, one of the best prep methods for coating (or just to clean the tank) that I have found is soaking the tank internally with white vinegar.. Fill it up and let it set a few days,, stuff eats rust!! You could try this too, figure out which carb has the float sticking, try tapping on that carb bowl with the handle of screw driver or wood dowel.. If it does shut off as the pump brings the carb up to full, turn the bike off, drain the bowl down and try it again just to check it.. Also not a bad idea to run it for a while with an overflow hose for that carb positioned into an area where you can check it periodically,, at least to the point that you know you can trust it to not stick. Keeping a screw driver/dowel handy to give her a tap if you need to during this process aint a bad idea either.. KEEP MCGYVERING MCGYVER, WE ARE ALL ROOTING FOR YA!!!
