  1. Motor mounts are rubber and an engine will lift upward a little in response to the torque it takes to get the rig moving..
  2. Makes me PROUD to be able to call you folks my neighbors and my friends:thumbsup:!!
  3. Another point that she totally missed was how disrespectful deer can be to the provisions we have made to protect them. If you look at the two loafers in the video at 2:38 it is easy to see they are up to no good. They are flagrantly Jay walking and clearly, local Law Enforcement has yet to issue any citations for this wrongful behavior.. And Fool,, I had no idea that Deer were allowed to vote, I now have a much deeper understanding of why we are in the trouble we are in..
  4. Bummer the lakes tween us or it would only be a 1/2 hour ride Moos BUT, I am only a few hours away in Michigan, have the gauges and have done it a few times on the 1st Gens.. Betcha between the two of us we could figure it out!! What da heck man,, you heading to Don's MD? Hop the ship Thursday night, spend a night here in Muskegon with Eagle Eye and me. Tune her up Thursday night ride over to Dons MD with us and we can have the pro's there double check our work!!
  5. Or maybe a loose fan shroud, step on the gas and motor lifts just enough to touch the fan on the shroud..
  6. U joints and mid shift bearings will also make funny noises...
  7. Is this a front wheel drive.. CV Joints can sure make some strange noises as their bearings loosen.. Knock some parts loose on a brake caliper and they can make some weird noises too... My son stopped by not to long ago saying his wife had destroyed their SUV,, it was making some weird noises,, I crawled under it and found the splatter sheild above the drive shaft had come loose and was laying against the drive shaft.. Put er up on stands and poke - prod - wiggle and squeeze things before ya turn her in to a tranny shop Mike.. Hopefully its something simple!!
  8. and when you do,, dont forget the 's cause specially if it has anything to do with JET FUEL POWERED ROCKET SHIPS THAT ARE AIMED TOWARD MICHIGAN!!
  9. Probably shipped by someone who has read the stories of the infamous Turbo Charged Wisconsin White Washer and its trigger happy owner who is now building snowflake shaped missiles and he KNOWS not to get on your wrong side Fool!! That is definitely impressive Jeff!
  10. LOTS of great advise so far.. Pull the air filter and side covers. Crank er up and watch slide's bounce - see if you notice any differences in movement. Pull headlight fuse, run in dark garage at night and see if you see any electrical leakage - plug wires especially. Also might wanna check resistance on plug terminals and double check exhaust leaks. Tight valves can cause strange noises too.. Maybe make a video for us so we can actually hear what your hearing? Youtube it - and post it up.. If we cant help you after all that, bring it to Don's Maintenance Day.. If the really smart people show up I bet they can figure it out and you wont have to walk home!!
  11. Hey Turtle,, is that tail light on your new bike a stock light? That almost looks Harley tombstoneish in design.. I always liked that look..
  12. Awe,, thanks Red for the offer! I know exactly what your talking about on the patina brother!! It takes a long time and a lot of miles to get one of these scoots exactly the way we want em. Its fun to be swapping out another rear tire and end up with red clay on your fingers from the swing arm and wonder which year and which state it actually came from:big-grin-emoticon:
  13. Just never took the time to ride one PB, Tip and I have sat on em but - unlike Harley, Victory and Indian - never did run into a dealer offering demo rides on one.. Tweeks says she does but she sure aint getting no younger - I figure it would be better to have an idea on whether or not riding home a 2nd Gen in the event of a complete catastrophic roadside breakdown BEFORE we head out into ride season 2015 might be a plus - I seem to see a LOT more of them (and the RSTD's) on Craigs than the 1st Gens nowadays.. Thanks Turtle for the info and THANK YOU for the offer!! I also cant wait to share some road with you folks too!! You ever get here along the West Michigan/Lake Michigan lakeshore be sure and give us a shout!!
  14. May be something about Pacific Coast shoreline.. Tip, Tweeks and I were on "1" in California following the cliffs, minding our own business. We were just above Bodega Bay headed south, made a sharp turn while following "1" and there right in front of us was a sign on a very small "lot" of land that said "Lot For Sale, $4,350,000.00" on it:scared:. I told Tip that I thought just posting something like that should be illegal!!
  15. Good post DragonSlayer!! I have Honda Helix that Tip and I spend a lot of time on when we are home. Minus the body, this vehicle reminds me a lot my Helix. A while back we ran into a guy out in Utah who was riding an electric motorcycle cross country that he and Craig Vetter (Vetter Fairings) had built. He was telling me that Vetter uses the Helix and one of his streamline kits and gets amazing economy out of it. The body on the scoots of these things also made me think of what I saw on his electric bike built by Vetter.. Really interesting!! The longer wheelbase and lower to the ground concept that the man in the vid is talking about is right on target.. I can tell you that the handling on the Helix is AMAZINGLY inspiring and VERY comfortable! I will say this though, when you get onto wet pavement and have a braking slide the dynamics we experience on a normal bike go right out the window!! Same thing if you have a flat tire at speed (we had one on the rear on the helix at 60 and it was a HANDFULL)!! One of the things I always liked about biking was knowing I could part company with the machine if/when I needed to - watching the video kinda gave me a creepy feeling knowing these folks wouldnt be able to do that.. Really cool post though Bob!! THANKS!!
  16. Or the other way around,, OR,, pool our cash and get rich off each other:178: Long as there aint no Bernie Madoff's in the crowd!!
  17. When I was young and stupid I use to park my Chopper in the bicycle racks (dont even know if they use em any more - metal cage like things). 21 inch spooly fit between the rails like they were made for it.. Then I got older and stopped and causing so much trouble and started parking out in the normal parking areas.. Now adays it seems I am being paid back for my younger days of foolishness and have come out of the store a couple times and found gum laying on the seat of bike in the sunshine.. So now I park wayyyy out away from everyone when possible.. Kind of miss those bicycle rack days:hihi:
  18. Well that just plain stinks Silv!! Hopefully you somehow regain your loss when you deal directly with the Motel.. You could also just skip the whole Motel scene, sleep under the stars and REALLY get your cash back I thought exactly the same thing as DJ when I first read your story! My mind went,, lets see here,, so if I would have purchased 30,000 US dollars worth of Canadian currency on March 10 and returned it on March 13 I would have made 1900 hundred bucks in 3 days:scared:.. Even doing it backwards like you mentioned,, 1500 bucks is nothing to scoff at:scared:... If that is possible, I bet there are some wealthy folks who have figured out exactly how to do that and are having all kinds of fun as we speak!! :mo money:
  19. That is one PURDY scoot there Turtle!! Of course, like everyone else around this joint, I LOVE the looks of 2nd Gens and you have that puppy dolled up gorgeously - GREAT JOB!! So,, you and your wife went from an 83 1st Gen to a 2nd Gen? Like that VideoAZ character, I also keep a close eye on the Ebay/Craigs bikes and pay special attention to the Gen 2's. The main reason being, prices seem to continue coming down and these 1st Gens are getting older every year and Tip and I keep talking about what will replace Tweeks (our 83) when the time comes.. Wondered if you could run some questions by your wife about her comparisons in being a passenger on the two? If ok, please run this list past her and ask her to give an open/honest answer to the following and then, if you dont mind, answer a couple too? 1. Basically, how tall are each of you? 2. How much wind buffeting does she receive comparatively - referring to shoulders and up? 3. Heat differences on legs (Tip notices right away if I remove the plastic side body covers on Tweeks - her legs get hot, I am wondering if the frame differences make up for the need of the side covers)? 4. Have you contemplated the need for a center stand for on road emergencies - any plans on your part to add one? 5. Have you folks any experience with long distance day ride with substantial cross winds and how does the 2nd Gen's fork mount fairing compare in stability to the 1st Gen's fixed fairing? I have done a fair amount of high wind desert touring with fairing mount (on lighter bikes though) and found a 500 to 900 mile day of riding really exhausting and hard on my shoulders. Hoping to hear that the narrower fairing on the 2nd Gens are better? 6. They look dorky (IMHO) but I have always LOVED the fully adjustable bars on the 1st Gen's. Have you found it necessary to contemplate adding risers and/or different bars to get your new 2nd Gen into a familiar "comfy" spot for long range touring? BEAUTIFUL scoot Turtle and great job on the making it "yours" with the "tattoo" copy!! Thanks for the story and the 's and look forward to hearing anything you (or anyone else) might wanna share!! You folks have a WONDERFUL, safe riding season out there!! Puc
  20. I always wondered why places that are really populated and that seem to be a little more "green" have not adopted real encouraging motorcycling laws to promote effeciency.. Every time we get an opportunity to ride the "diamond" path (commuter 2 or more people only) thru a big city I always think to myself how cool it would if there were one for motorcycles only that had a speed limit set a 10 mph faster than the auto traffic or something just to add more enticement for folks to ride.. If that didnt work than they should try a free Butter Nut ice cream cone at the end of every bike only lane
  21. You betcha Goatster!! Glad you found it!! I LOVE those Shadows, talk about FUN!!
  22. RATSS,,,,, motorcyclings best kept secret is no longer a secret!!!!!! If this keeps up I am gonna have a very very hard time replacing that poor old Tweeks when the sad day comes around!! BEAUTIFUL JOB GODLOVER!!
  23. I dont know nuttin about nuttin but gotta ask, hasnt diabetic medicine gotten to the point that a person can carry a little digital monitor with them - prick thier finger and instantly know exactly where the blood sugar is at and adjust their intake of sugar accordingly? If so, Kat it might not be a bad idea to just carry one around and keep a close eye on your levels and what you eat until you can develop your own system.. Does that sound stupid you guys? If so just tell me and I will shut up Thinking and praying for you guys while you sort it all out Kat!
  24. I like the looks of that Fiat,, I wonder how one would pull,, make a really cute trailer!! That Blue 1st Gen is GORGEOUS David!!
  25. Well, I cant personally speak for the Gen 2 tires cause I have never had the honor of torturing one of those gorgeous (albeit, a little slower than the 1st Gens I am told ) scoots on a long distance expedition. I will say this though, the ONLY tires that really stick in my gut with the "steer clear of em if at all possible" syndrome are the Metzler's. We ran a brand new one (880) from Michigan to the west coast last year. Probably because of heat (we run desert temps A LOT), weight (two up/fully loaded with camp gear) and speeds (I do ride hard sometimes) getting over 6k out of a rear tire is VERY uncommon for me. The Metz actually was superior to anything I can remember running as far as actual miles traveled. After we made it to Sacramento, the tire appeared good enough that we trusted it up to Mt. St Helens and back to California (no idea how far that was - speedo was broke). I was SHOCKED to find the tire had delaminated during its run between Oregon and California. I am hard on tires but watch my tire pressures VERY closely, always run/maintain "max" spec pressures on tires. I later spoke with Squid about the delam, I am almost sure that he said (wanna be VERY careful not to put words in anyones mouth) that he and Lonna had a similar experience with Metz only they went down because of it. I am also pretty sure that they were running their GEN 2 and, I think we can all be pretty assured that Squid had a good idea what kind of air pressures and condition his tires were in before their incident. Here are a couple shots of the 880 delam on mine. It did maintain air pressure BUT, in my opinion - this is the kind of stuff one should expect from "recaps"! I have burned off a few 404's too but the only complaint I had about them was the cost per mile.. Seemed Dunny wanted almost the same $ for em as we used to pay for the E2 and those 404's were a 3500 mile tire MAX on Tweeks backside. I would (and did) use em again if it in a pinch BEFORE Metz though. Chasing from Michigan to the west coast like we love to do has taught me that no matter what tires I run, its one rear out and one rear back in. About the only thing I have not tried are duel compound tires like my buddy runs on his new Ultra but those are real pricey (I think he paid 220 bucks for his rear tire). I ran a 65 dollar Full Bore home from the coast last year and it did just super - actually way better than any 404 I have ever ran. Right now I have a Conti Tour on the front that was brand new when we pulled out last spring, its been all over the country (minus the New England states) and it still looks great. It was a left over tire I grabbed off Amazon (or Ebay - cant remember) for 60 bucks shipped... One thing for sure, load rating and air pressure maintenance is an absolute no matter which brand ya choose I rekon I rekon!
