Not me, I am making this one if at ALL possible!! I dont do the concerts and show stuff anyway,, I LOVE the bikes - sleep on the prairie a mile or so from the Chip - should be one of the biggest turnouts EVER!! I remember times thru the years when I-90 was backed up for 2 miles waiting to get into town - parked the bike and watched the action right on the highway!! Been a LONGGGGGG time since the big HD rally has had this much potential (stupid economy) bikes bikes and more bikes!!! If you are thinking of touring the Black Hills this summer, the 1st 2 weeks of August will be a NIGHTMARE unless you like waiting in lines and listening to Harleys rumble:big-grin-emoticon:!!

Looks like a cross between a Yamaha, Kaw Voyager and even some Victory blood in it.. Definitely dont look like a V-4 exhaust - thinking v-twin, front boards are huge, lots of room between rider and fairing - that sure looks Victoryish, rear boards look yamahaish and so does the trim on the bags. The fairing looks voyagerish but the leggins look Victory and so does the Trunk design.. Looks more like something one of these gangsters around here bolted together --- its ugly enough that I would ride that puppy! I probably oughta find my way to Face Book cause I seem to be missing a lot!! Thanks Rick!!

I hope you win that Lottery too:fingers-crossed-emo:guitarist 2::guitarist 2::cool10:

Stuck Pilot Screw, Got any Ideas?
cowpuc replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Now that we are all back on the subject of removing ruined carb kibbles and bits, and while we are waiting for Cha to give those measurements, I will tell you all a story.. Back in 1991 a young guy brought an 89 CR500 Honda into my shop to trade it in on KX250.. I had ran CR500's for many years and gotta say - this bike looked BRAND NEW!! While we were standing in the parking lot looking at the CR in the back of his truck I had to ask him why he was swapping it in.. Expecting him to say, it flipped on me the first and only time I ever rode it, I was actually shocked to hear him say that he could NEVER get it to start - they can be hard starters, especially when they get miles on em but this thing looked BRAND NEW!! The glare in his eyes told me he was not joking!! He said (and his title proved it) that right from brand new (he indeed had purchased it new) it was THE hardest starting bike he and his friends had ever experienced. The bike looked like it had less than 5 hours of run time on it.. I asked him why he didnt take it right back to the Honda shop when he got it home a little over a year ago and found out that it had a problem - they had told him NO warranty.. After making the deal and everyone was gone home, I tossed on my MX boots, tipped the CR down on its side till I got fuel out of the overflow (old trick), lifted the choke - rolled that great big coffee can of a piston around to TDC, gave er solid stiff legged whop and got one "bang" out of it,, hmmmm.. My first thought was she had popped a crank seal real early in life on a backfire and was sucking air.. I gave her a couple tea spoons of mix in the jug, tapped her again and she started right up but strangely died after the fuel ran out.. Float bowl read full.. Pulled the main jet screw out of the bowl and the main, spotless as was the rest of the carb both internally and externally - looked like brand new.. Playing around firing it up a few more times on premix raw fuel (it ran great as long as you primed it) it suddenly dawned on me that the enrichment system on the carb was not functioning.. Honda used a lot of Keihin Carbs through the years and this particular Keihin had a choke knob on the left hand side that you lifted up on to choke the carb, this "arm" also served as a low speed idle jet that you adjusted by screwing it in or out to set idle. I removed the arm and could not believe what I found, the tiny little tit on the end of the shaft (looked almost identical to the pictures here of the end of the pilot screw) had broken off and was lodged in its tiny orfice - perfectly blocking fuel from entering the choke circuitry when the chock lever was lifted!! I surmised that the lever was broken from brand new and that the young man who swapped the bike in had been trying to cold start a CR500 Honda with NO choke for all its life - kids right leg is still probably twice the size as his left!! A few days later the young man was back at the shop to purchase gear or something, I took him in the back room, did a one kick start on the bike for him, told him what I found and offered him his bike back - he laughed and said he had had enough of that (he said a bad word here)... Someone hand me the marshmellows will ya... -

Awesome and GOOD ON YA for having the foresight into the long term affect of having a child not getting the attention they need and deserve :clap2: THAT is a heart breaker and, if I were in your shoes, I would be on the same track you are on Bren!! My initial response was one from seeing you head cross country with her on board - TOTALLY a different situation than what you wrote above with farrrrr fewer issues waiting to pop up!! It sounds like you have a pretty good grip on a solid relationship with her parents, especially being a God Parent and all.. There is this thing that I discovered many years ago in dealing with people, called being transparent. It can be difficult at times (usually cause it involves a little deeper communications and not everyone is a communicator) to be transparent BUT, it seems like when I am - it dismantles a lot of natural threats and stuff.. Maybe a really good heart to heart talk with the 7 year olds parents disclosing some of your concerns and, in a completely non-judgmental way, letting them know that you would like to be able to initiate a deeper Father/Daughter relationship with her.. I will NEVER forget those years with my own girls Bren.. They spent HOURS at my shop while I was spinning wrenches in the evening. My first born (daughter) would climb up in my tall bench chair and contemplate the universe and talk my ear off - now she is a school teacher in California. My second born (daughter) was the hands on type - she ended being one of the best carb mechanics I ever had work for me and went from there to Med School and is now an MD. Both of them started REALLY showing the sign of their "bent" in life around that age of 7 years old -its interesting that that is the age of the little girl we are talking about!!

I have spent an enormous amount of time crossing this country on a motorcycle with my kids in tow since they were very young. Our lives have been positively and deeply affected by these adventures in ways that are almost unheard of in todays times. For some reason, when the interplay that happens between a rider and his motorcycle includes a willing child - magic happens!! Now if you spread that thought across the natural, almost divine, connection between a Father and his daughter (my son rode many miles with me too but it seems like there is something different about the connection between a Dad and his daughter(s) ) amazing relationships are born!! I say all of that so you, Brenner, understand that I REALLY do understand what this whole thread is all about!! As hard as this is for me to say, and NOTHING against you or anybody else, knowing what I know about road tripping on a motorcycle with a young girl in tow,, I would advise against it as long as it involved a girl child who was not my actual daughter.. There are just way to many things that can happen. An area of concern, IMHO, are how Laws and Law Enforcement have gotten so sticky over the years. An example of this is it used to be that if a person on a bike had to go pee pee really bad, you could just pull off the road, find a tree and go.. Now adays, if the wrong person see's you, and wants to cause you some BIG trouble, they can and they do!! That goes for children in your custody too - they do the "crime" - you do the time!! I have heard of folks now being placed on the "Sexual Offenders" list just because their young child went pee pee outside and when questioned about it, mentioned that he had seen his Daddy do this with his Dad ending up with some healthy legal bills and a quick trip to the list.. If something like this happened and you had a child (especially of the girl type and she was not your daughter) with you,, Lord only knows what might happen.. This is just the tip of the ice berg of things that I see having the potential of happening Bren.. Please KNOW that I am NOT implying anything wrong in what you are suggesting - I TOTALLY get it.. Now if we were talking about you adding a side car, taking the child AND your wife along on a cross country tour.. HECK YEA!!!!! All that said,, THAT is just my opinion! If you decide that you are going forward with the ride,, remember that children dont see things like you and I. Cater the rides to her liking, I used to place an old couch cushion between my kids and I when they were little. Then I would lean against it and it would hold them clamped in place. You can get creative with a cushion - cut it to the correct height it can have "pockets" sliced in it for packs of Green Skiddles and Gummy Worms (if my daughters were sitting here next me reading this they would start crying from the memories of this - HAPPY TEARS) and even a place for a water bottle and her very own cheap little digital camera. My kids would sleep for hours back there with either their head laying on the edge of the cushion or leaned back on the bedroll on top of the truck, (thankfully) we never even had a near miss.. Personally, I have always been one that likes to lean on my riders - I like the contact because it constantly lets me know what they are doing.. Perhaps that is one of the really great things I LOVE about my 1st Gens is that they actually seem to have a little less room between riders and seem a little more conducive to leaning on each other instead of using a back rest.. This is a good thread - THANKS for having the guts to post it up - LOTS TO THINK ABOUT!!

OUTSTANDING RANDY!!! We got a couple kids out there too and have made the trip a time or two.. If you are planning on camping along the way I can probably help out with advice on places to camp.. For instance, in Blue Earth Minnesota they offer free - 2 night stay overs at their local fair grounds, comes with showers and hook ups.. That said, you guys camping or moteling? You wanna ride mostly highway or would you like to stay on 2 laners? Ohhhh mannnnn brother,, you two are headed for some AWESOME RIDING and unbelievable scenery!!! :clap2:

SHE IS RUNNING SUPER GANG!! Cycled thru a bunch more on and off's, some from me playing with the thermostat and two on its own in maintaining heat - PERFECT with no failures!! A HUGE thank you to all of you for your thoughts and idea's on this little opportunity to learn - ALL of your input is greatly appreciated!! Hey Unc, THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENT ON THE WORK:happy34:!! Its always been the old "cant win em all - BUT YOU CAN TRY" routine with me!! I did stick an amp probe on the blower motor, amp draw is spot on! The Squirrel Cage rolls freely like its on ceramic bearings, no funny noises or bearing play. No out of balancing. The "veins" in the squirrel cage were all nice and clean, no build up like the filter was not doing its job (gets a new one every month). The furnace sets high and dry, we have had flooding in the basement twice now since we moved in (house was built in 02) but the water never reached the furnace itself - installed 2 sumps last year - worked perfect! Burner flame is real pretty light blue with no yellow happening.. I tried carbon monoxide testers back in the 90's at our old house and found them to be wayyyy to sensitive, constant false alarms and have never revisited that nightmare. I really appreciate the idea though Fool and would be happy to give it another shot. Any idea if they have improved? Any suggestions for good ones that dont do the false alarm routines? About the repaired Circuit Board, I take what you guys are saying about "REPLACE IT" very seriously and am going to go forward with doing exactly that. That is VERY uncommon for me cause I really am a do it myself kinda guy BUT,, your points are well taken!! It got to late in the day today because of that "I CAN FIX IT MYSELF" side of meand I ran the clock out of time to be able to search locally for a new board here. I did jump on ebay and amazon real quick and noticed right away that the ONLY exact replacements for my board are USED - only available new are an "up graded" version made by Honey Well.. Normally I have NO problem using "salvaged" parts (I do that, A LOT ) BUT again, I get the point about the safety involved here and really APPRECIATE the concern - I am gonna replace this one with a new "up graded" version.. (Furnace just cycled off again) I will shop around here locally tomorrow and see what kind of $$'s I can grab one for, if they are close to Ebay prices I will grab one and stick her in tomorrow. If not I will keep a close eye on this one and survive for a few days while waiting for the snail mail!! Maybe even rip the old one back out and see if I can get my grubby little fingers inside that relay switch that was mentioned just for the fun of it!! THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INPUT GANG!! Puc

Tippy wakes me up and says she smells something hot in the house.. Couple minutes of searching and I find that its coming from the heat vents. I go downstairs and discover that the squirrel cage blower that forces warm air thru the vents is not running. The vent pump that brings in fresh air for the burner and the burner are still functioning.. There is small led on the gas control valve that is signaling NO codes. Some diagnosing revealed what appeared to be a questionable Start Capacitor for the blower motor. It did test functional but weak on a cap test to me.. I shot into a HVAC joint in town, a tech there tested my cap and said it tested weak to him to. He did not have an exact replacement but had one that looked like it would work. The new one tested within specs where mine did not. 1st question: Look at pics of both caps. The grey one is the old one, the silver one is the new. Does the silver look ok to use in your opinion.. After replacing the cap the blower would still not function. I jumpered the blower motor leads and all seven of them spun the motor right up.. I had gotten no codes indicating a fault on any limit switches but went a head and tested em anyway, all looked good. All the low volt stuff on the board tested fine. I noticed a small dark spot on the board itself, popped it off its mount and immediately found a burned pin. The pin was the first component on the boards connector attached to "L1" (110v supply for the board). The neutral connector looked fine. I cleaned up the back of the board and resoldered the pin. Put it all back together and she seems to be working fine. All that explained, got a few questions: 1. Is it possible that the weak Start Cap caused the L1 connector on the board to get warm enough to loose its connection. 2. The board number is - Furnace Control Board ST9160B 1050, the furnace is an Air Quest High Efficency that is about 12 years old. Take a peek at the pic's, any idea if this failure is common, any recall on this board, should I replace it even though it is now functioning fine on my resolder job? 3. I am thinking that the hot odor we smelled was probably dust that had gathered in the heat exchanger area. Since the blower that forces air around the exchanger is the one that died I am thinking the heat exchanger got hot and the "dust" on top of it started smoking (it smelled that way). Is it possible for this incident to have done enough damage to the heat exchanger that it would leak? If you were repairing this unit, would you normally check the exchanger and if so, how? Thanks in advance to any and all responders!! Puc
