  1. I get it,,, I really do Fool... Bottom line,,, I think I tend to live in a world of Applied Mathematics where you prefer pure logic.. Sort of a Kirk/Spock relationship
  2. EXACTLY,, THATS IT BP !!! A very telling video to say the least, IMHO of course!! BP,, thank you for the find = I knew someone like you would have noticed this Beemer/Wing comparo' and know where it was!! @Flyinfool, go to 19:38 into this vid,, those YEEEEEHAWWWWWW's and multigear wheelies are the result of a couple of fun lovers discovering the magic at 5252 and above
  3. From a mathematicians stand point I can somewhat see where one may get that impression but from an end use consumer/dyno tuning mechanics perspective that may not be entirely true.. If what you are promoting were rock solid, it would seem that all dyno graphs would show, especially above the magic 5252 R range where HP and Torque curves always cross and where HP always becomes greater than Torque, the HP curve as a perfectly straight mathematical line.. Unfortunately, this is not the case.. As a matter of fact, dyno techs use the dips and valleys shown in the dyno curves (both torque below 5252 and HP above 5252) on a tune in process to work out.. Its the irregularities in the these non-mathamatical fluctuations in the curves that a good mechanic tunes out = smoothing out and creating a lenier pull hopefully.. From an end use consumer/riders perspective, crossing into HP heaven (at 5225) on a properly tuned, good running scoot will usually result in a "kick in the pants" feeling. That feeling can easily be seen and explained on a dyno graph (this is why people put big money into dyno tuning,, meaning actually adjusting parameter fuel/ignition inputs within each parameter = IMHO, the early HD Screaming Eagle Race tuners were the best for this and most fun as they allowed exact adjustments within 200 rpm increments = wayyyyy cool and with a little time you could adjust the valleys and dips - both torque and HP above 5225 very close to a straight, hard pull. IMHO, In the real world where dyno output numbers and graphs are used as tools for tuning, that 5252 number is in fact magical as it gives a solid base for the tech to tune from - its a given in the endlessly unuser friendly, Murphy filled world of tuning.. In adding to my perspective of the matter here on the debate floor, take a quick peek at the attached dyno graph.. Notice the 5252 on the blue lines = 1600cc Beemer 6 banger.. Notice the dips and valleys in the graph lines both from torque and up into HP country.. Those are the dips/valleys that, if it were only numbers on a page figured out mathematically instead of induced from actual engine pull pulses, would appear as perfectly straight lines. Those are also the exact varations that a good tech would be seeking to straighten out by adjusting fuel/ignition maps. At least, that is how tuning has worked for me,, doesnt mean I am right though Another point to ponder on this graph is I would guess that the rider riding the Beemer (blue line) would experience a much harder increase in accelleration boost above 5252 than that of the Wing rider (red line). Matter of fact,, I recently watched a video of a couple riders reviewing the Wing and the Beemer and they did some time, two up, on a track, comparing the two.. Its a pretty telling video concerning our little debate here Fool. I will see if I can find it.. Until then, here is the dyno graph I was referring to:
  4. I know brother,, I am one hopelessly sick lop eared varmint aint I?
  5. Anyone else taking time to look beyond the CCP Virus news and notice what's happening in the biking world today?? I've been watching the uptake of the new Polaris/Indian Challenger and have been overly impressed with the glee of those who have test ridden it (youtube is filled with these folks and it is amazing to hear their "HOLY SPAMOKEY" screams of joy as this new water cooled/OHC 108 engine crosses into HP heaven at the magic 5250 R's where hp always takes over for torque).. I have also been amazed at how well the Challenger has been selling and the total interest in the bike all while the world is fighting this corona thing,, pretty impressive!! It is also interesting that Polaris is openly challenging the HD Road Glide with this new one - it remarkably does resemble the fixed fairing Road Glide but the resemblance ends at the fixed fairing as the HD is still the iconic air cooled/push rod 45 degree twin = far from apples to apples IMHO.. Makes me wonder what the outcome will be in Polaris's hope of stealing HD riders from HD.. Polaris seems to have forgotten about their own air cooled push rod 111/116.. Makes me wonder how many Challenger buyers will actually be 111/116 Thunderstroke riders,, following the Polaris Indian sites seem to support this thought as there seems to be a lot of those riders trading their 11/116's in and very little mention of the Challenger on the HD Road Glide sites from what I can see.. Another interesting point has to do with the new SVTC/Eluder sales,, or lack thereof.. I personally find it interesting that Mom Yam took the polls and the polls showed that nobody was interested in a "performance" Venture/bagger back in 2018 (release of the new Venture).. Mom Yam therein jumped on the HD air cooled/push rod band wagon. Less than 2 years later shows tons of left over brand new SVTC/Eluder's sitting in warehouses and still not sellable even at +$10,000 below MSRP fire sales on left overs.. Its like the "give us high torque, low R's, electronic gizmo's light switch was just a real short "on-off" thing or something as Polaris is proving that bikers really do appreciate and love the thrill of wicking it up occasionally.. All this leaving one to wonder what would happen if Mom Yam retraced her steps and dropped that 1700cc V-Max motor into that mean looking SVTC,, worth a shot IMHO.. I have spent a fair amount time aboard the now defunct 1250 V-Rod as I helped a neighbor tune/build one up.. We ended up seeing 114 rwhp on his and it ran strong,, right about even with my 85 V-Max named Crud who would outrun a stock V-Rod easily.. Similar to Mom Yam's sales experience with the SVTC/Eluder, HD riders repelled the V-Rod like a duck repelling water.. Now,, with this new found love for performance,, I cant help but wonder what would happen if HD re-introed the V-Rod Revolution motor only in a touring/bagger platform, I bet if HD dumped another 400cc into that 1250cc V-Rod motor and did that it would be a seller!! Could get interesting out there!!
  6. Your writing prowess is a breath of fresh air during the ups and downs of present day issues Silver!! Concerning your new steed,, due to its cool chrome OEM forward controls and spoke wheels it screams CHOP ME" to a 46 degree rake,, slap on an 18 over Springer and an old school King/Queen seat with a 6 foot twisted steel sissy bar topped off with a functional bayonet scabbard built into the top of it.. Then a quick wheelie down mainstreet of Sturgis during the rally would be in its DNA, IMHO of course LOL
  7. I know,, I still know nutting about nutting but I am still wondering about my original post above,,, maybe somehow the digital circuit board/led system really does not interact well with the non-digital/high draw incandesent light flasher control unit.. May sound crazy but again,, I wonder if your not going to end up with something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Pin-Speed-Adjustable-LED-Flasher-Relay-Fix-Motorcycle-Turn-Signal-Hyper-12V/282385721814?hash=item41bf8029d6:g:8CkAAOSwTM5Yvap1 being needed to make the project do what you what it to do... Unless of course, the led lighting package and controls have a flasher unit built into it and you are wiring it so the OEM flasher is still inputting when it is not suppost to be..
  8. OUTSTANDING!!! Good for you brother and you are more than welcome on the comments!!!
  9. Funny,,, I tend to lean slightly in the same direction as you two lop eared varmints concerning the matter
  10. Hi Kev,, hope you dont mind,, I am gonna try a guess at what Earl was talking about.. Lets see how close I am when he responds back and enlightens both of us.. I am guessing that he is referencing used bolts when he mentions replacing them.. I only say that cause I have found that those 6 bolts (6 bolt pressure plate was actually OEM on the MK1's so I am familiar with them too) tend to stretch and weaken over time due to the constant pressure they are under even when the clutch pack is engaged.. I always replace them when opening up the clutch basket in an effort to give the bike a fighting chance in its constant battle with Murphy.. What fun!! Puc
  11. ,,,,,,,,,,, :lightbulb:,,,, OPEN "FLYINFOOL'S JOB SHOP" = PUT THOSE BASEMENT MACHINES TO WORK EARNING $$$'S!!! Do some gunsmithing!! Post it up on here first!! Got a bunch of lop eared shooting varmints that I am a sure would assist in keeping you busy and away from that infernal WWW!!! :snow::snow::snow::no-no-no::no-no-no:
  12. My kids and even Tip used to saw logs on a regular basis while CTFW with me, especially crossing longggg endless area's of nothingness out in the middle of the desert regions.. Never an issue,, and never needed arm rests to keep em aboard,, just lean back in my normal ride position with Tweeks grips laying on my knees I would capture them between me and the trunk,,, lock the throttle at 110ish and let er go.. Speaking of the all mighty Liter Bikes and their ability to bust the myth that there is no replacement for displacement (unless we are talking about pulling a car with a motorcycle and short shifting a high torque scoot like a semi to do it),,, I asked my Grandson what he wanted for his 18th Birthday.. His response was "I want you to take me out on Maggie (my R1) and show me what +160 mph is like".. After explaining to him the protocol for doing such a feat (things like: arms around my waist - fingers locked together at all times, dont panic when Maggie lofts front end at high speed, lean with me, never remove feet from pegs, stay directly inline with me at all times when in gears above 3rd = air stream above 150 is dangerous and will drag you from bike if you get in it) away we went.. I remember his scream of "HOLY S*&$" as Maggies front wheel lifted slightly in a rise Maggies personal private race track as we broke 150 so I knew my Grandson would never be the same and was having an 18th birthday the likes of the type that 99.999% of Americas youngens will never have.. It's probably obvious to you if your still reading this that I happen to be one of America's few that still believe in the American way of life that encourages pure American individual freedom.. I am one who believes that as long as my/your choices in life do not infringe on anothers inalienable rights that any form of Governmental over reach that seeks to protect me from me is a no no.. I lean so strongly in that direction that if we were talking our homelands 2nd Amendment,, I would be one to stand firm with a few other Americans that believe we non-felon, clean U.S. citizens should be able to own fully automatic weapons as easily and affordably as we can handguns or long guns.. Way I am,, way I always will be.. Helmet? Yep,, when I choose to wear one.. Seat belt? Yep,, when I choose to wear one.. Back rest on my bike? Yep, if I choose to put one on it.. And on and on.. Win lose or draw,, way I am.. As far as the article goes? Hey,, it happens... Biking is a risky hobby to say the least.. Those that choose to participate in it would have to be brain dead to miss that point when signing up for such a fine, noble and fun hobby,,, IMHO of course
  13. We had sooooooooo much fun!!! It never ceases to amaze me how sensitive the ears are of our clubs Moderators though,,, ever time we get to partying really really hard,,, get all charged up and start yakkin about the VR cops and then POOF - they show up!! It's down right ear-a-lee uncanny how sensitive they ears are!! P.S.,, I am in it up to my own ears trying to figure out who that missing female VR member is that Carl mentions,,,,,,, got a hunch,, by the time our geezer minds recall who she was we will owe her another round of a :bighug:contest!!!
  14. Sent it to soon:
  15. BINGO!! GIVE THAT MAN A CIGAR!!! I read your response and went to dig the shirt out that they gave me yearssss ago - sure enough brother (see pics)!! Talk about a small world,, hard to imagine that years ago you got your first scoot from the same business (and probably from the same owner - I actually got introduced to the owner but he was not the one to give me the tour upstairs,,,, cant remember who that was,, maybe a family member who works the floor?) that rescued me while I was one mile from a really close friend who I would meet a few years later.. JUST CRAZY!! Another edge of the seat thought,,, my 1st factory race bike for MXin was a 1st Year model, 1973, Honda CR250M Elsinore that I bought brand new from a Honda shop I was spinning wrenches at back in Michigan... Wouldnt you know it,, there,, upstairs at Jims,, 2 - BRAND NEW, as you mention, IN THE CRATES = 73 Honda Elsinore 250's!! I thought my eyes would start bleeding!!! UNFORGETTABLE!!!
  16. Looks like that little spring is only available with the OEM diaphram/slide purchase.. Looking around other sources shows same as parts nation.. I will do a little digging and see if I can come up with one.. Will also check for a fuel cap.. Anything else?
  17. Operative word "we" =
  18. JOHNSON CITY TENNESSEE!! Randy,, not to another thread (sorry about that, got a really bad habit of that) but is that the REAL Johnson City Tennessee brother?? The following pics were of Tweeks years ago on the side of 26 about 10 miles south/south bound lane out of Johnson City and a pic of what went thru her brand new rear tire!! You anywhere near that spot? BTW,,, I got a ride into town with the rear wheel and my spoons at the hole thru the tire was wayyyy to big for plugging (brand spanking new tire with less than 1200 miles on it) and the awesome local Johnson City feller that took me in took me to a Honda shop not far into the city.. Once I explained what happened, those folks at the Honda shop treated me like GOLD!! They sold me a new rear tire at cost,, installed on their tire machine for free (so I wouldnt have to use my spoons) and gave me the grand tour of the upstairs of their dealership where millions of dollars of vintage bikes (some still brand new) and unobtainable vintage parts were stored!! IT WAS AWESOME!! 1st time I ever had to ride down a flat tired touring bike from speed and was actually glad it happened!! They gave me a free shirt that has thier name on it, I could do some digging and find out exactly who they are but I am wondering if you can guess?
  19. Get em Randy,, get em get em get!! Like you,,I CANNOT STAND SCAMMERS IN ANY FORM!!! GET EMMMMM!
  20. watching the POTUS give his daily CCP Virus update at the time,, will DEFINITELY take a peek when time permits Patch - I love history! You get a chance to watch the two vids I posted up in this thread? Careful out there on the road,, keep er pinned so them virus dont catch ya!!
  21. Hope everyone south of us reads and heeds this warning! A bored man with his finger on a machine like the mighty WWW could really make life down on the U.S./Mexico border interesting...
  22. @Flyinfool,, Couple days ago Tip and I boogied up to Fremont Mi,, about 30 miles North East of us (remember it @videoarizona ? It is the place where you stopped to take pics of the Amish Sign) to pick up a few groceries outside of Muskegon Corona Country.. On the way there,, I was looking out of Troopers (our little Ioniq Motorhome) window and notice lots of what appeared to be light colored smoke.. As we neared,, I told Tip it almost looked like think ground fog.. As Troop led is into the fog,, it suddenly occurred to us that we had just entered a blinding blizzard of a snow storm.. Looked down at Troops outside ambFient temp gauge (things almost as fancy and electronically controlled as the new SVTC Venture) and noticed it was 53 degrees outside.. Getting closer Fool,, gettin closer!! Ohhhh,, by the way,, gas up there was a buck a gallon,,, cost us 78 cents to run up and back Vaz
  23. It should start and run pretty good down even being down by 1 IMHO.. I have ridden numerous miles on 3 pots (even on 2) and found these scoots to be fairly good performers even on 3.. Concerning your Fuel Cap, see your looking for some carb parts too (spring)? I have 3 parts bikes and a fairly good parts supply built up = both NOS and used.. Put together a parts list and I will work you up a decent deal on your parts needs if needed.. I could probably come up with a couple references concerning my parts supplier endeavor if you need it too... Best either way getting that sweetheart back on the road! Puc
  24. part of Part 9 and NOT spring = Part 7? as shown on parts diagram here: https://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/500430a0f8700209bc78abfd/carburetor-non-california-model
  25. Doogie are talking about the spring for the metering rod that hangs out of the bottom of the slide on the carb diaphram? The one that is removable by removing the 4 screws on the exposed cover on the carb?? By the way,,
