Not to throw even more of a curve ball into this pot cause my mommy taught me better manners than that but,, I dont remember EVER having a good clutch in ANY of my 83/84 1st Gen's.. Not ever!! Not even one.. Its kind of embarrassing too cause when Tippy, Tweeks and I race my neighbor on his 2012 103 Harley Ultra and I try to explain to him that the reason he gets a window of catch up time in low speeds is cause Tweeks has no second gear and that the reason we are only 8 bikes ahead of him when we get to 100 mph is cause my clutch starts slipping as soon as the tach hits 4 grand in 4th or 5th gear he gives me a .. The 83/84 models do not have the large diaphram spring like you guys are talking about, they have the old type of pressure plate springs (5 or 6 springs that look like little valve springs). I have tried more than once to shim the springs out to tighten em, have even tried using different springs but never did get to the point where I could feel the front end coming up in 3rd, or be able to actually power pull in higher gears.. Wonder when Yam started using that diaphram spring and if the clutch basket is adaptable to the early models.. Also, the next time I work on one I am gonna pull that inner plate and do me a Skydocker plate and see what happens!!

WOW zzz WOW WOW WOW - OUTSTANDING piece of work there MR. Shuttlebug!!! Tell you one thing, you once again have shown the depth of your resolve and the capabilities of your skills/talents as a gear head - AWESOME JOB! What a great way end to one journey and a fabulous start to another! Godspeed as you folks rack up more great miles on your BEAUTIFUL scoot!! where's the hitch,, I dont see no hitch,, how ya gonna pull that AMAZING trailer you built if you dont have a hitch,, Tippy said tell Mrs. Bug hi!!

Interesting Gary, makes sense now that you point that out,, like maybe the narrowness of that first plate (the one behind the wire) would make the pac less grabby and smoother to operate cause the surface area of the clutch itself have been lessened - am I even close to being on the same track with your train of thought? Wonder if the trailer pulling members around here make it a common practice to swap that inner plate out for a whole one... Hopefully PB is ok with me hijacking, if not you have my apologies PB..

Your welcome! Glad you found it Fly!!!!!!!! Have a GREAT summer buzzing around on your scoot with one less buzzz to worry about!!

Anyone know the purpose of the wire and the funky disc in the first place? Why didnt Yam use a full clutch pack right from the beginning?

Point well taken Ventureless!!!

:crackup:David :crackup: You ever have a set of bars come off a bike David:crackup: Believe it or not,, I did  Had a Honda CT 90 with its bars rubber mounted,, the mounts pulled up thru the top of the top clamp :crackup:talk about instant pucker butt :rotfl::rotfl:another one, had a Suzuki that had a steer lock on the key switch - push down and turn and it locks,, for some reason this one was messed up and would lock without turning the wheel to the side.. Riding along, wondering if I was fast enough to lock/unlock it while riding, amazing how fast I went down - click - BANG!! Gotta agree with David here,, could have been much worse Bren!!

Wrecked my 1993 Royale tonight - have some questions?

We got a law (at least according to the Judge in Muskegon but never really know about him - he is known for writing his own laws in "his" courtroom) in Michigan that is pretty simple - if you hit someone in the rear end its automatically your fault.. It kind of sounds similar to what Michael is talking about. In our area, if you are involved in a 30 car pile up, the State fairs pretty good cause anyone who nails the car in front of them has to pay a fine.. This kind of stuff is the very reason that I mentioned hoping you could keep this out of the court system Sys - experience has shown me over and over again that the only ones who really come out ok thru the courts are the Judges/Lawyers and other Public servants who make a good living off those fee's and fine's.. Sorry to hear this accident had to turn this direction and I truly hope it all works out for you!! -
I dont know,, I still got a strange feeling that the only reason that Harley drifted into watercooling that exhaust valve had more to do with meeting regulations having to do with emissions than it did on rider comfort.. I may be wrong and probably am but Tip and I spent some time on a wet head HD and I honestly can't say we felt much difference in temp comfort.. It did seem to have more umpphh though.. WOW Midnight, no more V-Max? I am sure they were not a good seller (economy) but, this saddens my heart cause I was hoping that big block 4 would be around long enough that for us folks who live off the table scraps of folks willing to spend the big bucks would be able to find an affordable one to go out and play on - bummer!! I still think that big block would have been a GREAT resource for a new breed of Venture!! And the end of the Strat/Roadliner,, guess I can see that too as they have been around a while and you dont see alot of em out on the tour... I happen to love that great big torque makin push-rod clankin V-Twin coffee can pistoned 1900cc hunk of pure Yamaha motor but I would prefer mine in a Raider (old habits are hard to break, the feel of a chopper gets in your blood I guess) - not in a touring bike per say.. However,, if Yamaha would come out with a "Raider" turned "touring" - that could be interesting.. Sort of a new breed of V-Twin tourer that nobody else had.. Laid back in an easyrider fashion all stretched out with my back in Tips lap, the feel of the stability that only comes from a long bike flowing down the highway and a great big torque monster 1900cc pushrod V-Twin idling along at 2 grand and 70 mph, feeling the bike flex under me as we cross expansion joints on the highway while going around the City of Sacramento.. I could do that.. If its gonna be a new pushrod V-enture,, probably rather pick up a year old Harley Ultra Limited for the same price, maybe,,, maybe not...

Yea but you know Larry,, he may very well have snapped those shots on some quick escape "tweeking" ride him and Joyce did down in Florida or something.. He's like that you know, just kinda sneaks off and we dont hear from him for a few weeks..
-
Huh,, what, who,, Jaguar? No, I dont never get to hear bout nothin... Did you do it??
-
You know these pictures probably originated in Larry's garage

WOW zzz WOW WOW WOW - is that AWESOME!! It almost looks like the front end is articulative (did I say what I wanted to say and mean what I meant to mean with that word?).. Like the rider is maybe turning the whole front axle instead of just the front spindles - probably an illusion.. Anyway,, COOL BIKE!! Ok, so if I had the cash,, hmmmmm,, well,, I gotta admit,, me and that Carbon One, we kinda think alike I think.. I think I would go with a Slingshot just cause I like the looks of and the idea of having an adult go cart/Cedar Point Roller Coaster/roadster twisty carving side by side with a 170 horsies draggin my butt around!! Maybe I am wrong but it seems like the low sitting go cart would require far less rider input in order to control things once g-forces starting taking over.. I am probably wrong but I am a biker and I know all to well about how much body input it takes to really get a bike to perform like a race car in twisties.. I also know how much FUN go carts can be and, if I had the money to toss into something along this line I would ripping down to my Polaris Dealer and dragging home a Slingshot.. Probably be taking the body off it to make it look even more dune buggy/go cart RAW but yea,, 170 horse while sitting a few inches off the ground has my attention!!!

Yep,, what a bummer,, people teaching their children not to accept responsibility when they make a mistake... Sounds crazy but I think this is one of the very basic things that is causing so much trouble for all of us in the world today... Mans gotta do what a mans gotta do Sys!!!! -
That Raggy, he's ok PB,, just a little old fashioned in character and thought is all,, now if I would have had Velocity Stacks on that ol chop and you would have said Stacks? it wouldnt have even caused him to loose his groove,,, dig it?
-
air filters
-
and you guys can come over here and drag this trailer home Raggy:178:,, if your still interested:detective:..

so just reapply the tape and leave it on there:beer:

Find the pic, let your cursor rest over the pic for a second - the size of the pic should appear, when I do that mine says "640x480" and 168k.. If you do that and says the pic is bigger - you probably gotta resize the pics.. I know that when I change my battery in my camera I always end up resetting my pic size and quality way down so I can post them up on here.. I would pick on Don and call him a cheapy:stickpoke: for not allowing bigger pictures but I am actually thankful that he doesnt cause I am the REAL cheapy - have a very slow internet connection and it HATES big pics!!!! DOWN SIZE CHA - DOWN SIZE!!
-
I think its a gorgeous scoot too but I am having a hard time finding an asking price by the dealer in here... Sorta hard for me to share an honest opinion of whether or not I think its a good deal if I dont know what they are asking for it.. Could be I missed something though.. Lots of scoots out there..

OUTSTANDING!!! That is soooo close to being cross country ready!! All I would need is a rack up there to put the bedroll in - then it would be STICKER TIME,, yeeeeeehawwww!!!!!

Does the fact that Tweeks original shield has lost over 1 mm of its thickness mean that the original coating is probably gone :rotf: That FlyInTheOintmentFool hit the nail on the head!!! A trip from Michigan to the west coast and back is about a 8x Plast-X application (depending on time of year and how many bugs they release in places like Alberta Canada, Waterloo Iowa and Lincoln Nebraska).. IMHO, its not that big of deal of you use Plast-X to clean your windshield after washing it down with a truckstop squeegy thingy..

NICE,, really really NICE Cha!! BUT,, you know the rules:big-grin-emoticon:
