Someone wrote something about it maybe being a new model that they bolted on a bunch of extra left over parts to disguise it David.. Its ugly enough like it is that I think with a few stickers and a set of Horns on it and I would ride it!!!!!!!!! I would even ride to Sturgis and park it on main street by all those great big beautiful new Harley, Indians and Victory models... What the heck my good buddie,,,, I would even dig around and find some Yamaha name badges, put em on it and tell every one that Yamaha FINALLY came out with a new model for us!!

Hey GF (and all you other 2nd Gen Owners),, I, I, I,,,,, I dont recall reading anything about rear end whine (going out on a limb here, guess I shoulda done a search first) - maybe its cause I dont hang out much in the 2nd Gen tech section?? Now,, if we are talking clutch whine,, than yea - lots and lots of whining about that one l have personally (knock on my wooden forehead cause I am a little ways from any other wooden object at this time:thumbsup:) experienced some odd noises coming from what sounded like it could have been a rear end BUT, always found that to be associated with a certain brand of tire being worn a little square and making humming noises when I corner with it,, other than that, all of my Yamaha rear ends have been very quiet and really durable... NOT doubting your word here GF, just stating an observation from owning a few 1st Gens and running em out to their terminal end... Never did even own or ride a 2nd Gen so I probably should just shut up and let someone who has a clue give some thoughts..

COOL!!!!!!! That Honda got into the 13's!! Heyyyyyyyyy,, wait a minute here, wait just a dog gone minute, a big guy picking on a little feller eay!! That aint fair,,,, we need to dig around and see if we can find a similar vid of an 84 Honda Goldwing 1200 vrs a 1984 Yamaha Venture - stock for stock - apples and apples - man o' to man o' (been there, done that - LOT OF FUN!!).. Or,, toss some bags and a fairing one of them stock 1700cc Yamaha v-4 V-max jobs,, at least that would be closer to 1800cc's and would be a little fairer race....:witch_brew: Good one Motiv - NICE!!!

So I am talking to one of these young "stunt" rider "kids" after a show one time,, talk about TALENT!! Anyway, I tell him how impressed I was with his skills on the crotch rocket. Of course, being a geezer, it wasnt long and the discussion turned to long distance touring and I made the comment about how uncomfortable I would get after a 16 hour day with my belly resting on a tank and head bent back so I could see where I was going.. This young man was telling me that these rockets are actually designed for speeds above 140.. Apparently and according to him, above 140 the air comes off the front fairing and lifts your body so you are riding on a huge pillow of air.. I mentioned this "air ride" idea to Tippy, she smiled and said "dont forget - we have a 100 mph limit at all times" (I love flying the back country of the deserts, another flaw). I smiled back and told her I doubted the tent would stay on at 150 anyway..

Wrecked my 1993 Royale tonight - have some questions?
cowpuc replied to syscrusher's topic in Watering Hole
This may or may not be noteworthy here and I TOTALLY mean it in helpful way.. It also may apply ONLY to our little Muskegon Michigan area but,, it may not so here is something else to think about.. Some very close friends of mine were involved in a situation that ended up in some court time similar to what Sys could be facing here. They signed up with a "famous" Michigan Attorney (advertised the "no pay unless you win" deal on T.V.). In the end, the courts decided that he and the other party shared in negligence and it was just an accident and that both parties were to turn to their own insurances for recovery.. Short form, nobody won.. My buddies comment on that day was,, oh well - I tried to do what was right.. Less than 2 months later he and his wife got a bill in the mail from his "famous" Attorney for $24,000 for "Office and Adminstration Fee's". He called the Law Offices and found out that the "no pay unless you win" only applies to win/loss awards and that if they had won the 300,000 dollar settlement they were seeking, the payoff to my buddy and his wife would have been (300,000 - 100,000 [1/3 of win going to Attorney] - 24,000 "admin fee's" = 176,000 to go to my buddy and his wife.. Since he lost the case, he was only/still responsible for the 24k in customary Admin fee's. Of course, my friend and his wife were FLOORED!! He went down to the court house with the paperwork, talked to the Judge who handled the case and asked if all of this was appropriate.. The Judge said absolutely, customary office fee's were my friends responsibility (some of these fee's were things like filing fee's to the court that pays Judge wages too).. My friend pointed out that it appeared he was being charged $650 an hour for the Attorney to "discuss" the case with the other person's Attorney - my buddy felt these hourly rates were outrageous.. He said the Judge didnt even bat an eye when he looked at my friend and said "$650 an hour is a steal! - PAY IT or you will probably be back in my courtroom". To some folks 24k is not that much cash, my friend and his wife were not fortunate. They ended up in foreclosure and filing bankrupcy when the economy fell years back.. In the process of their bankrupcy dealings they learned that there are things that cant be resolved through bankruptcy and fee's owed to the legal system are one of them (their are others too, I guess Federal Student Loans fall into the same category), as far as I know they are still making their $380 monthly fee to the Attorneys office.. Sys, if you do get involved with an attorney and its on one of these contingency deals,, it might not hurt to ask them before you sign anything whether or not the "if you lose you dont pay" deal applies across the board and includes EVERYTHING!! Cant hurt to ask about it Sys!! PS = THAT IS ONE NASTY LOOKING BRUISE THERE MY FRIEND! I AGREE ABOUT THE BLOOD CLOT STUFF - GO GET IT LOOKED AT BY A DOCTOR, WE DONT WANNA HAVE OUR RIDING BUDDY - VR FAMILY MEMBER MISSING A RIDING SEASON OR SOMETHING WORSE!! PLEASE GET IT LOOKED AT!! PS, PS = LIKE ALREADY MENTIONED - THERE ARE ENOUGH OR US GENUISES AROUND HERE WITH XTRA PARTS AND IDEA'S - WE WILL HELP YOU GET YOUR BIKE UP AND GOING - I AM IN!!! -
Sorry to hear that Goat,, live is so short and so fragile!! I hate cancer and what its done to so many families. I lost my dad last fall, still have a lot of dreams about him.. Its hard to believe how vividly I remember the 60's/70's and times with bikes like you had in the pic's and family stuff.. Just strange to be older in body but still young in spirit... Those pics brought back a lot of memories...

Got it running, but,won't move!
cowpuc replied to mandalore16's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think we need more info.. These are pretty tough drive trains and not usually subject to major catastrophic failure... Was this a bike that has been sitting for a really really long time? Wonder if the clutch fluid got so nasty from sitting that the actuator is being held open and the clutch isnt releasing, maybe the little tiny bleed back hole is the master is plugged solid and the master cant release or the clutch plates are snagged open somehow.. Need more info.. Seems like if do put her on the center stand, drop her in gear and see if it will spin rear wheel.. You also might wanna spin the rear wheel by hand in neutral first just to be sure the brakes are not stuck on from sitting too, if you do have a stuck caliper (cant turn the wheel by hand) - smack the caliper with a rubber mallet to get the pads to release. If the rear wheel will spin while on the center stand when you drop it in gear and does so without a lot of noise, you probably have a clutch stuck open for some reason.. I suppose its possible something came loose.. More info,, was it running/rideable for you before you parked it??? -
Stator cover removal
cowpuc replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Go around it's parameter a bunch - use a flashlight and make sure you have ALL the screws out of the outside edges - make sure and double for sure you have all the screws out!! If I recall, the cover is doweled onto the case - just take a rubber or plastic mallet and give it a wrap on the edge of the cover - enough to break the gasket loose. Then you pull straight out and like mentioned, your pulling against the magnets so its tight - nice little quick jiggling.. Also, there are one or two cover screws that have copper washers on em - make sure you get those back in the proper holes.. -
HEYYYYYY,, GOT ERR FIGURED OUT EAY!! :clap2: BEEEAAAUUTTTIIIIIIFULL :dancefool::clap2: Sure wish I was sitting there in the shade telling stories and staring at the bikes with those two guys - ACTUALLY LOOKS WARM ENOUGH TO RIDE! Really nice Cha! THANKS!!

NICE Motiv - CONGRATS!! I am really really partial to the Harley Heritage Softail (my friends call em a girly sissy bike - I tell them all I dont care what they think - I LOVE that old school look) look and have seen a few bikes that really intelligent bikers like you have installed a quick detach tour pac on - that set up of yours reminds me of that iconic sharp look I have always loved - GORGEOUS SCOOT!! So,, that said,, what da heck is that thang?
-
Probably not much help G&V other than to tell you I had pretty much the same experience thru the years.. I decided to just stay with cheapy Walmart stuff (been 3 or 4 years since I needed one so I really dont even know if Wally World still carries em) - the one that comes with acid you add - and than just replace the battery when it dies.. In all these years I did have one Wally battery get weak on an out of town trip - stopped at a Wally World out west and they handed me a new one.. If your old battery will crank the bike right up that kind of shows the starter aint draggin,, maybe make sure the AGM bat posts are good and clean and the cables on the scoot are good and clean, put it in the bike and start it with cables off the old battery to help it start. Let the scoot run, check voltage output at the battery with an ohm meter - see if its showing 13.8 volts so you know the stator/regulator is doing its thing.. Watch the headlight when you rev it a little and see if it perks a little.. Ride it around the block for 15 minutes and see if the battery takes a charge.. If it doesnt and the bikes charge system is working good, either buy a new battery or use the one out of the wrecked one (thats the one I would use - just make sure the cells are all full if its a wet cell)..

You have no idea how many times I have asked myself that same question thru the years Wally and STILL, to this day,, have no sensible answer for it!! Getting back to kickstands and transcendental meditation,, years ago a guy opened a "Gas Gas" bike shop near us, I was very heavy into dirtbikes at the time and VERY interested in this "new breed" so a friend and I rode to G.R. to take a peek.. I asked permission to sit on a pretty red one at the end of the row of bikes, the owner gave me a nod. I noticed right away that the bikes kickstand SNAPPED up when I tipped the bike up.. My buddy caught my attention with a "look at thisssss" from the other side of the show room.. I CAREFULLY got off the bike, PURPOSELY held the kickstand down and pulled back on the bike to make sure the kicker was all the way engaged, let go and PURPOSELY looked down at the bike to make sure it was good to go, walked around the back of the bike AND DID NOT TOUCH IT and than across the showroom.. When I got to the other side of the showroom there was a LOUD CRASH as a whole row of brand new bikes went down!! Of course, the owner was TICKED at both me and the Gas Gas company.. Me for not being more careful and Gas Gas for putting a powerful enough spring in their "GP Start Kickstands" to actually give the bikes forward momentum on their own - a motorcycle with a mind of its own!! After we all calmed down, He told me that he had came into his shop one morning and found all the bikes laying down!!

cowpuc replied to syscrusher's topic in Watering Hole
Hey Sys, I was in NO WAY trying to insinuate that you had done anything wrong and just trying to respond to a question from Semi when asked if anyone had ever heard of such laws in any other state.. I share your frustration and truly was hoping that the kids dad was gonna do the right thing and just take care of getting you back on the road on either your scoot or another one! Accidents like this always have a way of causing plenty of their own grief and I certainly had no intent to add to yours Sys!! Thoughts and prayers over the whole matter my friend!!
