I could not help but notice that your Limited (us Harley lovers in my neighborhood,,, we call an un-named bike like your bike a "Limited" - is that ok with you or do you have a special name for it?) may have "LED" lighting up front? I know its the new model cause it also has the vented fairing but,,, did the non-CVO Limited's come with LED's or is yours a CVO? Either way, I LOVE EM!! Talk about lite up the highway!! Also,, is that color that deep "Merlot" (I think it is called) on the darker paint? The one with the really really deep sparkles in it?? Also again,, is that the new water cooled bike? SOOOO MANY QUESTIONS!!! :178:,, that gorgeous scoot really really needs its own thread so we can all :bowdown: and hear about it!!!

Need Help synchronizing my Carburetors
cowpuc replied to Vonwolf's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Wolfy, take a quick peek at the bottom of your gauge rack where the hoses connect onto the guages and see if the hoses are connected to a nipple that also serves as an adjustable flow restricter - I had an old set that had em (my newer gauge rack has em but they are knurled and easily noticable) and unless you knew they were there you may not even realize the gauge rack had them - never know, might be worth a look.. If nothing else,, it sure seems like 4 of those cheapy little plastic inline fuel petcocks could be adapted real easy like,, or,, how about an aquarium air bubbler flow restricter - turn the knob to adjust the flow.. -
I'm going to ride Beartooth, Chief Joseph and more.

Speaking about checking air pressures in our tires,, anyone else do this..
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
 Must be something to do with this water in Lake Michigan brother cause I am RIGHT THERE WITH YA JEFF!! Laying on the slab, wake up to Tippy kicking my leg and asking me what I am doing,, me replying "ohhhh,, just checking the air pressure on Tweeks rear tire dear:dancefool:".. Of course,, I feel kinda of funny when she starts laughing and I go to jump up and bump my head on the cross member of the car that I am changing oil on!! -
Back in my early MX days I jumped ship from Yamaha when Honda came out with the 73 CR250M Elsinore (wore out 2 in two years - just could not get enough of that wonderful stuff). Besides the amazing increase in Horsepower that the Elsie made over my Yamaha 250 MXer was how quickly it revved.. I was a gear head back than too so it didnt take long for me to have it apart (1st week of ownership) to see what was inside.. One of the big things that Honda did with the Elsie was they completely did away with the flywheel on the crankshaft.. This allowed for a quicker revving motor but also added horsepower because energy was not being used to spin the added weight of a flywheel. I later moved up to CR500's and finally to the KX500's. I woods raced these bikes and found it necessary to actually add flywheel weight on these bikes when woods racing to detune them and make them more rideable for woods usage (in woods racing on single track - the minimum distance between trees in a sanctioned race is/was 30" - an instant burst of 63 horse (about the same as a stock 103 inch Harley) is fun on a Motocross track but can be deadly when trying to dance between trees). My KX500 went from an explosive 62 rear wheel dynoed horse to a very tame and lenier 51 dynoed horse just by adding 14 onces of weight to the flywheel.. I am no engineer by any stretch of the word but I gotta wonder if some of the same principles apply withing the Harley world. I only say this because I have also hung around some at the "all Harley" drag racing events and had a few discussions with the Harley guys about why they dont use the balanced Harley motors as opposed to the unbalanced. This type of discussion usually ends up with the idea that having to rotate more mass with any given amount of horsepower/torque is not a good thing when talking performance. Matter of fact, its not uncommon for these shorter life drag racing motors to have "shaved" crank weights in an effort to do an exact opposite with the Harley motor that I had done to my KX's for woods riding.. IMHO = and that is ALL this is = opinion ,,,, another very interesting perspective about the 45 degree single pin Harley motor is that the fire order on the degree wheel that this design creates puts an enormous amount of pressure on the forward rod because it's energy is being released way out of phase.. The sound and the shake that people have come to love about these motors is actually the result of the motor attempting to self destruct (thats a crazy thought aint it ) by snapping that rod off as it takes the punishment of the previous combustion AND, if Harley changed this and made them more durable by producing a truly balanced motor (2 cylinders = firing at 180 degrees of each other,, not sure but I think Honda does this) they probably would sell a lot less bikes... Pass me the marshmellows please,, man this fun!!

You got that right Champ!!!!!

So my buddy who chooses to utilize the name of one of the fastest fish in the ocean for his screen name, rides a bike that can put a whoppin on us all , goes flying by us with his :guitarist 2:ripping up the air foil that he is leaving in the wake of that gorgeous Wing, comes meekly into our wound licking contest here and tries to console us riders with a "who cares how fast they go" comment Sure Barry,, I know your tricks,,,, you just want us 1st Gen riders to buy 2nd Gen's so will you always get to the :essen_018:first!!!!

If I recall correctly, that Strat motor (1900cc) is indeed a balanced motor and for really good necessary reason. Like a Harley big twin, Yamaha stayed with a single pin crank and really pushed the envelope to get as close to HD specs on the engine configuration - HD's have been 45 degree V-Twin motors for years, Yamaha came in with 48 degree's on the Strat motor.. That single crank pin design and 45 degree "V" sets up the firing position of the piston's on the rotation of the crank in an imbalanced way and this is what gives a Harley it's wonderful exhaust note and, I think Yamaha purposely pushed as close to the edge of a copying Harley as they could to get the sound and to sell bikes.. Ironically, Harley has a "B" motor (balanced with balance shaft) that they use in a few of their bikes too. Many Harley riders stay away from these motors because the balance shafts rob power and make the bikes not feel right because they dont shake, thats right - there are many many people who actually LIKE the shake!!

Something just popped into my head today as I was out reacquainting Tweeks with the feel of being saddled up again (felt good). We were cruising along on an open stretch of highway not far from our hideout, checking the over all "feel" of the bike.. I had checked both tire pressures last week and hadn't bothered to recheck them when we left the cave so I did my on-road method of pressure checking.. I watched for a crack in the road, noticed one and Tweeks and I arrowed it perfectly as I felt for that familiar "thump, thump" of two adequately pressurized rubber tires making contact with the wonderful open road.. These days of my life, I find myself doing this almost subconsitously when the three of us are out crossing the country.. I have actually lost count of the times this little trick has brought our travels to a convenient stop to stick in some air while traveling and was just wondering if anyone else does anything similar to this old school survival technique.... It is amazing what these old friends of ours will tell us if we listen carefully...

New tires Going to Shinko's
cowpuc replied to PBJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I did Shinko's on Tweeks and had a hunk of steel go thru a rear tire.. I will look around here and see if I can find a pic, it was kind of strange because the piece of steel had no real sharp pointy edge, cut a hole thru the tire that almost matched the end of the steel piece (3/4 inch x 3/8th) - never seen anything like it in all my years of biking.. The tarmac was VERY hot (108 in the shade that day) - loaded down with all the gear and Tippy on the back!! Brand new tire with less than 1k on it!! I took the wheel off on the side of the highway, got a ride into town, the guy at the bike shop that swapped on a new Dunlop for us said he had never seen anything like it either (the steel part I am holding in my hand was still inside tire) but attributed it to the softer rubber of the Shinko.. I have had a number of flats over the years at highway speeds, this one went with a real "bang"... -
It used to really get to me when they got my brother and I messed up like that...

WOW,, THAT is just AWESOME!! It is amazing how sharp and with it this hero is - just amazing!! God bless you for and THANK YOU for your service Captain Yellen!! AMAZING!! :clap2::clap2::clap2:

Ahhhh,, the summer of 14,,, ADVENTURE SERVED UP GORMET STYLE!!!!
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Something didnt add up here.. Doing my spring cleaning this last week and going over stuff from 2015 - I counted my empty oil containers, used oil filters and tires I had swapped out and something just did not add up, I KNEW I missed something in last years little ride report.. I figured out why my math was all messed up!! Today I was working on Tweeks, I accidently knocked her tank bag over while it was unzipped and all the stuff from the summer of 2014 fell out and LOOK what I found!! A close examination of the contents of that Mini-Card from our Tablet revealed that I had actually missed a few miles from last year fun!!! I haven't got the time right now to go into detail BUT I will say this, after returning from the ride out to California and catching Raggies Rally, we decided to head south - after outrunning a Tornado (went right over our heads - it landed in Tennessee) and having its hail rip stickers off Tweeks fairing - kinda like Dorthy and Toto, we landed in a strange place called "Guntersville" in Alabama. While trying to figure out exactly where we were, I found this little article in the local News Paper. I know most of you varmints would rather be washing the smell of gasoline from your paws than reading an old news paper article BUT, I thought someone out there might be interested in this (C-Pics).. There are also some other pretty neat pics and vids on this little "Card" that I will share when I get a second to do so. Might be some - pictures of strange inhabitants (human and animal form) - motorcycle repair in the dark of night - examples of Southern hospitality and even some interviews with several lop eared VR characters that I am really enjoying sitting here listening to!! -
OUTSTANDING BREN!! :clap2::dancefool::thumbsup: Of course,, and I am sure you are expecting this, what Harley are you mentioning? Gotta ask you know,, just gotta ask!! I have had many Harley's (LOVE THEM TO DEATH) and would really likw to know which model/year and mods to the bike you might be referring to in comparison to your Venture?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS. ROBIN,, KEEP ON ROCKIN YOUNG LADY!!! :dancefool::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Crazy_139:
-
TOTALLY :dancefool::clap2::thumbsup: ROCK AN ROLL WOW ZZZZ WOW WOW WOW TAKE ME FOR A RIDE HECK YEA - THATS WHAT I THINK ABOUT THAT PB&J!! Now that you have I HAVE to ask,, does your Stang have one of those 2.4/2.2 liter motors like in the "Capri" or is that, by chance, a turbo 302 (no idea if Ford ever made such a critter).. Either way,, BAD TO THE BONE FLAT GORGEOUS!! Dont know about needing more area's to discuss stuff but I do know that I have heard everything from Apple Pie to Zinnia colored draperies figured out at one time or another right here at the ol Water Hole... Ahhhh family life, so much more to it than riding around with two wheels and a motor bouncing betwix our feet eay Bill!! :bighug::bighug: Natty, IMHO, another perfect example of the underlying message being talked about here can be seen in this video. I happen to know that more than one person showed up without a motorcycle at this amazing VR Family outing. The cause was great and the family love was strong as we pulled together in unity toward a common goal - helping the kids at St. Judes. What I am saying, and I think the others here may be saying too, is that there is so much more to VR than motorcycling and that you and your wife will be missed if you choose to depart.. Also know, that if you do you will always be welcome back, bike or no bike!! Maranatha Puc

WOW Eckster, talk about horrible flash back memories,,,,,, thoughts and prayers for all involved!! Reading this just sent chills down my spine, its seems like just yesterday that our neighbor and his 9 friends (all from Michigan) were over in Wisconsin near Fond Du Lac on their once a year ride that, as a group, they had been taking for almost 20 years. In their case, a young man decided he didn't like motorcycles (sounds crazy but that is the last we heard as far as reasons from the authorities), swerved over and hit the lead bikes head on and everyone went down like bowling pins!! Our neighbor was in the rear of the group, lived to tell about it (spent 4 months in a coma) and has since had to sell their family home and he is now in a nursing home.. These unnecessary things are horribly hard on everyone involved!! Like I said,,, thoughts and PRAYERS UP for all involved!!
