Thanks Fool, your type of input is exactly the reason I thought best to toss this up - much can be gained from seeking the advice of many wise counselors:thumbsup2:!! Funny you mention the fairing corners.. Now that you mention that - I cant remember ever bringing a 1st Gen home that didnt have some kind of marks on those corners.. Also totally agree about the res window fogging over. Your input is TOTALLY appreciated!! I am going to suggest to our brother who is buying the scoot that he maybe pop the breather cover when he fly's in to pick it up. Take a peek at what the fuse block looks like - thinking it should be original and not in to bad of shape with those low miles on it? Then take a quick check on the air cleaner just to make sure no mice have gotten into it, results may give a hint as to when the last time was the fuel system was actually looked at? Thanks again Stan. Good eye my friend!! I am not really up on the MK2's but do you think the seat is a redo? Also - I LOVE those passenger arm rests, never did have a set.. If you happen to be able to locate those folks please let them know we would appreciate any info they are willing to share. Also reassure them their pretty Yamaha is going to a VERY good home!! I am getting very excited for my buddy!! I am also getting VERY excited for Tip and I because if this all works out, we are gonna get to actually meet yet another of our VR family members IN PERSON (yeeeeeeeehaaaaawwww):dancefool:!! 's and documentation to share are guarenteed if, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, this all ends up like it appears it gonna!

Ya know,,, closer examination of these new pics (THANKS AGAIN STAN!!) revealed something else... Take a look at the clarity of the window on the front brake res.. Man thats sharp,, now that does appear as you would think a 20k bike should appear:301: Given,,, it could have (and probably/hopefully did have) the brake fluids changed but dont those little windows usually loose their clarity over a life of CTFWing? Seems like mine always did....

THANKS A GAZILLION TIMES A GAZILLION STAN - YOU ARE DA MAN BROTHER!!:clap2::dancefool: A PERFECT example of what makes VR such a fantastic family to belong to!! Viewing the pics - I somewhat question the validity of the mileage,, I do see what appears to be some wear on the front brake rotor that causes me a little alarm (strictly speaking from a "is mileage accurate" concern.. From a different prospective though, I dont see that same feature on the front brake rotor that is activated by the rear brake pedal (left side as sitting on scoot) - maybe the PO used his front brake most of the time (I know I do),.. I also notice that the speedo numbers dont line up nicely - anyone know if this is a questionable point concerning speedo accuracy (not trying to be anal here, just going over things with a fine tooth comb the best I can.. In an indepth phone conversation, I was telling our friend who has money down on this one that I have personally seen many of these scoots, that have been cared for properly, with well over 100k on em still looking almost like new. Explained how difficult it can be to really give a good "feeling" about it. Anyway,,, Stan, in your opinion, having seen the bike,, can I ask what your thoughts are on the question of whether or not the stated 20k is actual mileage? Anyone else have thoughts on that from viewing the pics? In the end,, however this shakes out,, thanks again Stan for your time/effort/pics/input into all this - YOU DA MAN BROTHER!!! Puc

Struck a nerve Ron!! Not to pick on your stepson Ron in ANY WAY but, deep in my heart I have a gut feeling that what you just described is the beginning of the pathway along the road of where many of these pet peeves are found... Hope that made sense also hope I didnt offend you Ron

1st job employment experiences,, oh those wonderful first jobs..
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
These stories are outstanding ya'll!! Silv - THAT is soooo cool!! Tell ya one thing, your first job sounds like a DREAM COME TRUE for any youngster whipper snapper (IMHO) - how cool was that!!!! Your last comment reminded me of the time I had just started working for the Boilermakers and was on my first Power House job site.. Hadnt been on the job for 2 weeks - the fellow boilermaker in the tool shed stood their staring at me with a great big when a clean shaven young Puc with brand new Carharts and boots stood before him and announced that the Push (boss) had sent him there for a Sky Hook and 40 foot of Shore Line... Gotta be endless stories like these out there folks:happy65: -
A little more info.. I did a google on the names on the back of the bike, Chuck and Sarah Konn, and came up with a phone number.. Gave the number a quick shot a second ago - figured it was worth a try. Unfortunately a Fax Machine answered the phone and I dont speak fluent Fax lingo so that was a bust.. Anyway, current info shows Chuck (or Charles) as an older gentleman (+70), having lived in Warren Mi like the bike suggests and currently living in "Applegate Mi" (never did hear of that one before).. Would have liked to have had a brief chat with Mr. Konn about mileage accuracy and all that stuff but it didnt work out.. Also wondered if he may have been one of our own here at one time... Any chance any of our east siders knows Chuck and Sarah or recognizes the scoot:fingers-crossed-emo?

SOUNDS LIKE A FLIPPING RIOT DAVE!!!!:clap2::clap2::dancefool::dancefool: Prayers Up and Blessings Down for a marvelous journey no matter which trail you decide to CTFW on!! Gonna be keeping my eyes open for that chance to follow the fun my friend:fingers-crossed-emo P.S. - if it were me and had the time (and good weather) I would go up and around,,,,,,, BUT,,,,,,,, that pathway right along the bottom of Lake Michigan past the Museum of Science and Industry is awesome too... Plus, a ride past the HD Museum while stopping and jerking Fool's chain would also add flavor to a Chicago tour:think:

Hey Stan, here is a link to the scoot in question.. http://www.approvalpowersports.com/pre_owned_detail.asp?veh=4333803 Once again, THANK YOU for offering to check her out for us!!! Scott Oh yea, anyone else have ANY input into this that they would like to share,, feel free to click on the link, take a peek and fire away! All your thoughts and opinions are more than welcome and appreciated ya bunch of lop eared varmints!!

Yeppers Dave, that is the one! Not a bad looking scoot, hoping it all works out for our fellow lop eared varmint!! AWESOME STAN!!!! We would REALLY appreciate anything you could do for us!! Stan, its the Maroon colored, 1988 Venture they have in their used inventory. Our buddy has cash down on it already but is wanting to make sure that it is what its suppose to be before he flys in and rides it home. I wish I were feeling better cause I would scoot over and take a peek myself but thats not going to happen. Anyway, some concerns are: - it shows 20k miles, would like to check rotors for wear and see if they look like 20k rotors. Any pics you might be able to get would be a HUGE plus for us! - tire conditions, do they appear to be ok for a 1500 mile trip home.. Again - good pics would be awesome!! - a really good warmed up to temp test ride to check for sticky brakes, drive train noises and all that would be OUTSTANDING if you have the time my friend!! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR RESPONDING STAN!! Looking forward to any light you can shine on the subject!! Puc

Any of you varmints know anything - good or bad - about Approval Powersports over yonder in Sandusky Mi?? Got a really good buddy (fellow member here) who is thinking of doing some business with them and we are trying to get the scoop on em.. Also, any chance that any of you rascals live in or right near Sandusky and would have a couple minutes to stop and get a peek at a used scoot? As always, any and all thoughts or input would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks Puc

Only thing I can forewarn you about Silv involves their carb situation.. The early years of having the carbs out on the heads are long gone with the early 1500's, instead - Honda chose to bury the carb system up between the frame spars - very difficult to work on.. My neighbor has one, it had a flat spot on the bottom that was actually very dangerous (think intersections).. Thinking it was a typical Wing carb set up that I had some experience with I offered to give him a hand.. We soon discovered that with my hands in the condition they are in and his lack of mechanical ability - it was best to send it to local Honda Wing expert.. Cost him just under a grand to have the carb gone thru - not cheap.. I also know that the early Wings were interference motors so you had to stay on top of timing belt changes.. Not sure but I think the 1500's fell into this category too.. In the end though I know for a fact that those 1500's were very good motors.. Lots and lots of high mileage Wings from that era still out CTFW to this day!! All the best in what ever you decide to do!! Puc

Have you ever had thoughts of hanging it up on riding?
cowpuc replied to Eck's topic in Watering Hole
That happened to me many many years ago when the kids were to little to ride and the wife was just to busy.. Got bored with traveling alone and found most of my need for motorcycling met by racing dirt bikes.. Later when the oldest kids got close to double digits is when I bought our first 1st Gen.. Found an amazing connection building thing happening between the kids and I as we traveled (one at a time of course) cross country on the bikes - never got bored.. Kids grew up, walked into their own dreams and Tip and I picked up Tweeks, #5 1st Gen and, because we both LOVE meeting new folks, camping, touring and are bestest of friends - have managed to pretty much wear Tweeks out too.. Now, with all this medical stuff going on plus the fact of me getting older and slowing down in my reflexes - I actually find Tip and I discussing the very question that you propose here @Eck.. For us I think the solution may very well come in the form of a soft top/removable door CJ5 type of Jeep with a small trailer (cant even believe I typed that word).. Plan being to go back over some of those mountain two tracks that we have come to love and be able to actually answer the longing question of exactly what is around some of those corners and over those hills that 2 people on a packed down 1st Gen could not explore:think:. That said, I think each one of has to be honest with ourselves about what really makes us happy and fulfilled. All while understanding that our days are truly numbered and that it is important to not waste time in fear of change but to accept it and boldly go forward seeking a fulfilled life. -

Wow,, you and Eileen married fairly young,,, must be the marriage laws in Ohio are somewhat more relaxed than in Michigan Don.. -
Ok, I admit with pride that I did pick blue berries and even had a paper route when I was a kid. My first REAL job was even cooler though. It consisted of the nightly cleaning of a restaurant called Ole Taco's in Muskegon Mi. I was 16, had just gotten my Drivers License and had also found true love in the form of a 1969 Honda SL350 Motosport which I planned on purchasing to meet the instant transportation needs that came with having a DL - cant put gas in the scoot without a job to earn the cash for the gas - cant work without a bike to get ya there.. Funny how that works.. After spending a summer day earning my MMS, or Masters of Mopping and Scrubbing, my personal disposable income instantly went from $0 to $60 per week - NOT BAD!! A few weeks of sneaking into work on my 59 Sears Moped and I had the key to that GORGEOUS Motosport!! The summer dwindled by with me learning to ride the Motosport on the backwheel while shifting it thru the gears and lots of folks enjoying a taco with clean tables and floors to put their food on - win/win.. Then something really strange happened. It was late summer, I had arrived at the Taco shop at about 3 a.m., parked my Honda in front, unlocked the door, set the store keys on the counter, looked out at my scoot and realized I had left my bike keys in the ignition. Walked back outside to get my bike key's and heard the store front door go "click" behind me at about the same time I realized I had left the key's to the store inside:doh:.. BUMMER!! I spent the rest of the night practicing my wheelies in the parking lot in front of the store and chatting with my gorgeous Gold colored 350 Honda.. I was just finishing riding a real pretty 3 gear wheelie when I heard a horn honk behind me. I dropped the front end, turned around and it was my Boss with a forlorned look on his face:confused24:. I parked the bike, we walked in the uncleaned store and HUSTLED to clean the joint before any customers came in. Afterwords my Boss told me that my time with them was finished. I told him I was sorry about what had happened.. He didn't seem to be that alarmed about the store not being cleaned but could just not get beyond the fact that "I could have been killed riding a bike like that" .. Your turn:Cartoon_397:

Which spawns some questions,, I aint much of a Facebooker, bookie maybe but not a Face Bookie.. I tried to go find those vids Jay cause I would REALLY REALLY like to see some .. I did manage to finally get on to face book but ended up with a "pending" on my application on the VR page.. Wondered if I have to sign a waiver or something? Anyone know?

maybe the store manager misspelled the Do Not Enter sign = Do Nut Enter

I had a pet peeve once. Found out first hand how hard they are to take care of - they get into EVERYTHING and my neighbors complained all the time about them causing neighborhood problems. These problems increased exponentially when the critter had baby peeves - it was thru that ill fate that I discovered that peeves are like rabbits = there is NO such thing as having ONE rabbit. I finally figured out that I was not much of a pet owner so I offered the whole family of peeves - free of charge, including shipping - on Craigslist. I was contacted by a very wealthy person in Nigeria who offered to actually pay me for the Peeve's - including extra for shipping - via a personal check. I packaged the family of peeves up with extra food and space in the container in case there was more of them by the time they reached Nigeria. I did receive a strange looking check in the mail from the very nice person who I had shipped the peeves too but, being a man of my word and not wanting to take advantage of anyone - I threw the check away. I did have high hopes that the Nigerian peeves would prosper and multiply but have not been able to verify this as, to this very day, I never did hear back from him . I was bored after my peeves were gone so I replaced them with an 83 Yamaha Venture motorcycle. It broke down shortly thereafter which led to a strange feeling that my peeve family may be searching for a way to reclaim their U.S. Passports. I then "googled" 1st Gen Venture's and experienced past pet peeve owners which led me to a website called Venturerider.org. My life was changed forever with the results of that search because I ended up becoming a member at Venturerider and, to this day, continue meeting many lop eared varmints (NOT PEEVE RELATED) thru Venturerider.org. These varmints even helped me fix my motorcycle and the peeves stayed in Nigeria. I guess you could say that love found a way..... Please note - NO PET PEEVES WERE HARMED OR INJURED IN THE PRODUCTION OF THIS STORY!!
