  1. Heyyyy, Gladwin Michigan,, how cool is that @ChiefCass!! I did a LOT of dirtbike stuff over there back in the day.. Also did a fair amount of deer hunting in the Glenny area. Always a pleasure seeing another Michigander varmint at the water hole!! Pleasure hearing from you and, oh, by the way, THANK YOU for your service in the battle for freedom Chief!!! Puc
  2. Tell you one thing,, that Icelandic brother of mine sure does mighty fine work,,, JUST BEAUTIFUL JONAS!!!:clap2::dancefool::bowdown:
  3. Yep, my memory worked,, this time.. Check this out Lit, we got a super mechanic here named Dingy who answered the question perfectly with a pic - that @dingy - he is keeper!!! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?100987-Anyone-know-where-what-the-quot-Repaired-Stamp-quot-is-suppose-to-be-for-83-85-2nd-gear-issue
  4. Hey Lit, you could also check above the forward gear for the little punch mark that is suppose to be there if it happen to have gotten the second gear repair way back when.. It would be WAYYYYY cool if you happen to be one of the fortunate ones who got the stamp of approval.. I think there is a picture of the stamp floating around here somewhere - if I run across it I will link it to you. Otherwise, if you look at the top of the forward bevel gear area you will see a couple raised area's about the size of dime, I think its the front "dime" that is suppose to get the stamp.. Personally, out of all five of the 83/84's I have owned I have yet to have one with the stamp,,,,,, and have also driven a fair amount of miles on em having to short shift from 1st to 3rd too .. GOOD DEAL ON THE SCOOT AND HAVE FUN WITH THE PROJECT!!!
  5. Ah ha!! Finally the comes on!! Dont feel bad brother, I have ridden near the area that Orlin lives in for years on my way to Sturgis or just heading west.. Just never Ventured down into his area - always wondered what was down there.. Made it to his MD this past spring - could not believe what I had been riding right past all those years
  6. As long as we are on the subject, there's another lop eared varmint who has something he would like to add..
  7. Another thought, just thinking out loud here.. Maybe the springs are sacked enough that they are actually rubbing against the wall of the fork.. Possibly time for some Progressives... Or,, maybe they dont have enough Fork Oil in them and you are just hearing springs work... Any history of fluid loss? When was the last time you swapped out the fork oil?
  8. That is way back on a Two Track on the back of the Bad Lands in South Dakota @Brake Pad.. Open prairie camping at its finest!! On another note though,, yea,, I pretty much have always enjoyed just riding till tired - drop the tent - fall asleep and get up and do it again.. Do wake up in some strange places though my friend!! Not all quite as plush as camping out in the middle of no where OH MY GOSH I FORGOT MY HAT!!
  9. BUMP IN CASE YOU MISSED IT!!! and dont forget....
  10. Hit Lit, welcome to VR!! I just stepped out in garage and measured Tweeks (our 83 Venture). Full tire contact on the ground is 77 inches. Full length of bike is 98 inches. If your trailer is an enclosed trailer it may be to tight of fit because you have side bags that are going to allow you to go completely diagonal. Keep in mind too that these arent the lightest things in world - not easy to just slide around.. On the other hand, if you dealing with a small, open flat bed I would say indeed, more than possible to strap her down.. I have used small flat beds for years of hauling scoots and have hauled many full size Ventures/Wings/Harleys and even 10 foot long Choppers.. Just a little imagination to get em secured.. If I were going to do it with a trailer your size and it is a flat bed - I would roll the bike up to where the front tire is right at the edge of the trailer. The take a ratchet strap, go around the tongue of the trailer right in front of the front wheel of the bike - thru the front wheel and tighten in down to hold it in place. Take another strap and do the same with the rear wheel so when you tighten the rear down it has the scoot captured between the straps. They make bike hoops (have one on my own trailer) that are inexpensive and work well BUT - I dont think you have enough room on your trailer for one so you will probably have to do with the straps as I mentioned. Then strap front and back as best you can to collapse the forks and rear shock - end up with the bike standing upright.. Dont forget to check bearing conditions and air pressures on your trailer.. Another thing to think about is the loading of the scoot - the more extra hands you have the better. My wife, Tip, and I have loaded many full size touring bikes by ourselves. Our trailer tips down for loading. Using a ramp and pushing it up though requires extra help.. Hope this all helps somehow, best wishes on the trip!! Let us know how it all works out and,, if possible, provide us with pics if you land it!!! Puc
  11. OUTSTANDING!!!!!:clap2::clap2: Just got a text from @Hoss from Brookings S.D.. As a few of you know (most of you dont cause I haven't even started my winter time babblings about our summer adventures), Tip and I stopped and met Hoss on our way out to Sturgis. Later in that trip, Hoss came and did @bj66 's Pie Butt Ride.. Anyway, Hoss and his wife are on a cross country trip and are going to hook up with us today too .... More to come,, much more to come!!:dancefool::dancefool::dancefool:
  12. Shhhhh,,, that Chaplain,, he is in our back bedroom sawing logs,, has no idea I am out here ratting him out!! WOW ZZZZ WOW WOW WOW,, what a GORGEOUS tribute to the Yamaha Venture he pulled in on!! JUST BEAUTIFUL!! Definitely a 20k scoot!! Puc P.S. - Thanks Dusty for coming all the way across Michigan after picking up your bike to share some of your journey with Tip and I!!!
  13. Spoke to the Chaplain about an hour ago, he successfully aquired his new 1st Gen MK2 from Approval Powersports over in,,, ahhh oh,, forgot the name of the town over there,, help me out here @stanG.. Godspeed as you head across Michigan to come visit us Dusty!! CAN NOT WAIT TO MEET YOU AND SEE YOUR NEW SCOOT!! Pictures to come @Stealthblade
  14. Are you missing the selection for "pixels" maybe David.. What I did was opened Paint, upper left - click on file cabinet, click on Open, select pic from my pictures, once it appears in Paint, click on resize, click on Pixels, enter new size parameter (I just filled in the horizontal box - vert box adjust automatically), click on resize, now go back to file cabinet,, THIS IS IMPORTANT,,, click on "save as", click on J-peg, MAKE SURE YOU RENAME THE PIC IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL PICTURE!! I didnt do that with one of the pics I altered of my friend Moe The Goat and now one of my Moe pics has writing on it permenantly!! Just a heads up... Now,, to satisfy that varmint Stealthblade and rescue myself:doh:
  15. I think that would work Roller. Some tips from your buddy.. Tip and I rode down to those swamp lands a few years ago.. Continue to Key West after Daytona, those long bridges are awesome.. Come back and take the alligator road from Miami, across the Glades to the other side (Marco Island?).. Make that part late in the day, about half way across on alligator road there is some kind of an Art Gallary on the left, camp in their little parking lot (nice people) - gators crunching birds will keep you up all night (swamp night life is awesome). Tippy believed me when I told her the gators would not crawl into the parking lot but she didnt believe the snakes wouldnt - glad zippers on tent still worked. Two tracks in the Glades get remote really fast, big pot holes with water can get really deep too. Indians make gator meat really tasty. Watch ditches, lots and lots of REALLY BIG fish in them!! Also Manitee swimming in little narrow river along Gator Road!! REALLY NEAT!! Would go back in a minute!!
  16. That Dad of yours is a man after my own heart Vernture!! If the world had more Zip Ties, Duct Tape and WD40 - there would be a lot more riding and a lot less pushing I tell ya!! Know what I mean Vern? So,, what year/model is your Pop's old HD?
  17. Got goofing around using "paint" to make a Election picture for Moe and found out that "MS Paint" has a picture resizer built into it.. Paint is part of most MS software packages, the resizer is very easy to use.. Thought I better post this up now.. With fall coming and all the pics of those GORGEOUS fall ride colors you varmints are gonna wanna post!! NO EXCUSES NOW!!!!

  19. One of my favorites was grabbing a handful of contaminated arc welding rod, telling the new guy that we had a guy on the site that could bend 8 of em around the back of his neck.. Then watch as he took the challenge to try and top that... The look on his face as flux ran down his sweaty back was always priceless..
