Quite a day around Puc Land today. Starting out with me cleaning out a bunch of junk from out back, taking down an old antenna and then Tip and I hauling the stuff down to the scrape steel joint. As the lady behind the counter handed Tip the $9.50 for the scrape steel I said "oh crud".. Then when the lady smiled and asked I said "oh crud" I politely said "cause I did all the work and you gave all my earning to the wife" As we are on the way home from "the junk yard with the nice lady" (Tippy's words) I get a phone call from an ol buddy of mine who says he has something I may be interested in.. Drop off the trailer and head north.. First peek when I saw the rattle can paint job I said "oh crud" for the second time today. Tell ya one thing though,, he may look like crud but I think my neighbor's new V-Rod may have named him "HOLY COWPOLY"

I am with ya Beach, me and Tip - we dont much care for pushing these great big ol heavy mudsuckers much either - matter of fact, Tippy actually likes it less than I do.. Anyway,, I get chur drift brother!! Thankfully you made it home ok my friend and didnt have to retrace with the truck, to me that is even less fun than pushing. Tell ya what,, knowing how the fan can suck the life out of a battery and by the sound of things (you stated you had an extended wait in a long line of traffic) you were well into running the fan - if it was mine and the bike didnt have a volt meter on it (no idea which scoot your riding) I would just walk out into the garage, crank er up, let it idle and watch the headlight as I spun er up a little bit.. You should be able to detect a change in the headlight on the garage wall as it revs - should get brighter. Yea,, I know,, may not be the same as going thru all the testing and all that BUT - aint no way I would miss "the party" if that headlight was telling me she is charging. Anyway, glad you made it back home safely!! Oh, by the way,, I have used MANY of those Walmart batteries with some pretty awesome results - one nice thing about Wally World - THEY ARE EVERYWHERE if ya have problems!!

GREAT IDEA MIKE!! You folks in FLorida must also have some pretty small chickens though,, not sure that chickens up here in the north would like living in gutters or even fit in em for that matter.. BUT!! :lightbulb:betcha the gutter downspouts make excellent egg chutes I dont have chickens so I can't try it out,, maybe next time I go visit Moe in Viroqua I will talk to Orlin (he and Sharon have chickens I think - if not I will check with @eagleeye cause I KNOW he does) and see if he wants to give it try.. Seriously though bro - good idea - never thought of that!! -

Dj, up here in the great northern state of Michigan we have a fairly good fishin pond known as Lake Michigan. While our pond does not have sharks in it like that bigger fishin hole you folks have down there, it does have something that yours doen't. It has something called a @Flyinfool who lives somewhere on the pond's western shoreline.. This high flying Fool likes to mess around with diodes, triodes, astrogenetics, jet streams and many/anything else that he can get away with while he tinkers in his basement. Many years ago, Mr. Fool got some wires crossed while in his man cave working on something called his Wisconsin White Wash Machine (it's a device that turns green lawns white and makes it very difficult to drive anything other than a vehicle with true four wheel drive). The resulting eddy currents associated with the crossing of those wires caused some kind of a magnetic paradox in our atmosphere which, besides an occasional case of Northern Lights (those are really pretty), this caused our trees to shed their leafs and go bald. Its kind of strange because both the Northern Lights and the trees going bald happens pretty annually these days. Unlike yours truly and the bald spot on my head, our Michigan trees seem to be fairly tough and always seem to regrow their leaf's every year.. Oh, wait a minute,, that might not have been the answer you were looking for,,,,,,, maybe you are asking the tougher question that has to do with why leaf's fall down instead of floating in the air? No idea if thats the question but I can tell you one thing - be glad they dont float and end up in Florida cause they sure can be a pain in the neck to clean up:backinmyday: -
So, what your saying Gary is it would take the group of about 100 VR International riders a couple hours to get my camping spot.. Just about perfect for Tip and I to wake up, pack Tweeks, build a camp fire and have the fire in perfect shape for all of us to roast hot dogs for lunch before we jump inline and bring up the rear to take some half baked video's of my buddies riding those awesome roads.. Sound about right? THANK YOU for the link my brother!!! Puc

Now that I got your attention GUYS,, Menard's has gutter covers (you know, the stuff that keeps the Fall leaves out of the gutters) for FREE this week!! Store rebate after purchase for FULL amount!! Tippy is an avid couponder and LOVES Menards rebate program which is FANTASTIC but,, sales like this can sure add to the "Puc honey,, do this list". Thats why I thought best to make this a Mens Only thread. A simple "well thank you Puc for having your brothers backs and posting this valuable thread in this manner, will do.. Oh yea, PS = At first I was all poochy lipped - standing on a ladder in this GORGEOUS sunshine, buddies going by waving at me on their bikes and all that.. Then it occurred to me, with every section of the gutter cover I put up now - it means in the future years I - THATS RIGHT - I can be out riding my bike while the leaf's are no longer finding home in my gutters:178:

Gotta ask, if you go to 6:30 in the first Vid (the one your speaking of Gary) you will seeing folks camping - is this area a National forest where pull off camping is allowed? All AWESOME rides = BEEEAAUUTIFUL!!!:clap2::dancefool:

Depending on the stuff you use Dan,, I have been able to store the stuff for long periods of time just by adding a little acetone to it to keep it fluid.. Know what ya mean by being frustrated about it bro, nothing like having the stuff on a shelf until ya need it, then right in the middle of a job ya discover ya gotta put all the tools down and run into town for a 5 dollar can of adhesive..

Right there with Freebird! Start with battery connections.. If cleaning the battery connectors fails to solve it check back here - these guys are GREAT teachers!! -
Sounds like a fun project Vern, definitely something this ol back yard mechanic would be interested in reading about (was a time not long ago that I would have been right in the middle of it with ya:big-grin-emoticon:).. In the end though, I really think an attempt at using a secondary to try to eliminate the need for jetting out of a lean condition is actually going to result in having the opposite effect.. Remember in the mid 80's when Honda came out with the twin carb single cylinder XR's? The system didnt last very long because of mysterious mid-range hesitation issues associated with that set-up. Sometimes the hesitation (bog at the wrong time is never pretty in the woods) was a blubber from to much fuel - Honda built in a reed valve to help with this, worked ok but even that was just not quite good enough.. Other times, mainly due to not having jetting spot on - a crack of the throttle was momentary lean creating more hesitation.. In the end, you will probably end up with wayyyyyyy more work in a redesign than 4 or 5 carb tear downs and rejets.. If your main concern is trying to overcome a lean condition and I were in your shoes, I would probably start with the basics - stock air box with stock lid so you have control of air flow. Check for airleaks on vacuum hoses, intake manifolds and even the sync plugs. CHeck the diaphrams for holes. If everything is airtight and still seems a little lean - before I would do a rejet I would shim the metering rods (these carbs dont have "E" clips like "normal" bike carbs,,, gotta be careful when I say that - someone just told me that the Canadian Ventures actually came with "E" clip adjustable metering rods ).. Anyway, pull the slides, pull the metering rods and fatten er up on the mid range - thats what I would do before I got into rejetting.. PS,, DONT FORGET TO KEEP US POSTED WITH PICS AND EVERYTHING IF YOU DECIDE TO CHASE THAT V-MAXING IDEA

Your more than welcome Rhy, best wishes in getting your scoot up to snuff.. -
Right there with ya brother - right there with ya!! Will say this though, not much has changed that way in most of the western states (minus California of course), States like Utah, Montana, the Dakota's, Arizona, New Mexico are still pretty much like you and I remember as open minded to our kinda moteling under canvas freedom seeking biking lifestyle.. I have also done a fair amount of it (still do) down in your neck of the woods (few years ago I spent a month searching for old coal mines in Pennsylvania - West Virginia,, came home with a real old pick axe strapped to the side of the scoot and an AWESOME old coal miners helmet thingy that I modded and wore out in Sturgis on my chopper - will try to post a pick of it when I get a second ) - certainly not the same as back in our time BUT still lots of possiblities.. Bottom line my dear friend,, I think we are a rapidly disappearing breed What about those Motel Coupon books at the welcome centers when ya come into most states - anyone ever find them useful for saving

Heyyy,, wait a second here,, is your scoot still covered under warranty? If so I would handle it just like a new car,, have problems - give it to the dealer and tell em you would really like it back fixed. If that isn't the case, continueing with this discussion,,, IMHO - even if its been a while since getting wet it is still possible to actually buy contaminated fuel.. I personally try not to buy fuel when the gas haulers are filling up the underground tanks.. All under the "theory" that them putting fuel in is stirring up trouble down below.. Might not be a bad idea to check things out like mentioned above, if all checks out - ride it till what you are describing happens again.. When it does, if the Gen 2's have a fuel petcock,, turn OFF the fuel as soon as the symptons appear. Now open the drains and see how much fuel is in them. If they are low level or empty you know you are on the right track with it being fuel flow.. Then close the drains, turn the key on and off to run the pump - listen carefully to the pump - it should eventually stop clicking as the bowls fill (you should actually hear it slow down till it stops completely). Now with NO choke - hit the starter and she should restart just fine. Keep in mind thru all of this that a bad fuel pump doesnt just mean the points are bad - there is more to the pump than just points.. -
This will be interesting Raggy,, around here in these parts the junk yards wont sell whole vehicles - including bikes (have bumped into this several times during the years). Parts yes, whole bike no.. Have always wondered if it was a "legal" thing or just greedy junk yards.. Last one I had that happen with was over a Suzuki Stinger like the one in the link below. It was back when I was doing restore's for resale. Bike was GORGEOUS, engine was free and was only missing a couple of pieces.. I offered em 900 bucks for it, no sale.. Offered to parts but wanted 200 bucks just for the pipes https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=suzuki+stinger&ei=UTF-8&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-001 I would say I would start by figuring weight x per pound scrape price current value = x, then x times 1.5 (they gotta make something) would be a good place to start if your gonna make an offer.. Cant imagine paying much over a couple hundred bucks for a non running, pig in the poke - IMHO Now if it were 39 Indian Chief
