Been having problems getting our site to load, any one else?
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Exactly 1.7 seconds for that link to load up now Don,,, before I made these changes on my end 43 seconds would not have even scratched the surface - more like 3 minutes after trying several times for the home page.. Only way I could get on at all toward the end of this whole episode was thru clicking on an email link and going directly to a forum thread.. I did notice that all that depended on how many folks were on the site and also whether or not Tippy was sharing our DSL connection on the tablet. Either one of those and I could not get on at all - I was having withdrawals really bad. It all started about a month ago, I began having to refresh Firefox (first a couple times a day, then sometimes 20 times a day) just to get on the site.. It was really strange in that this all only applied to VR - I spoke with my provider about that and they had no explanation.. This thing is faster than fassstttt right now brother,, it flippin ripsss!! In the end I am sure my 190ish gig of pics I had on my hard drive may have somehow had something to do with it (bought a Teribite external - it ROCKS!!), puter probably a few dozen nasty virus things floating around that I ditched when I wiped the hard drive and started from scratch, calling the provider for my DSL was a HUGE part of it - the service guy came out today, moved my new router upstairs so now my connection tach is pegged against the rev limiter.. The 3 year old router I had been using was a known problem according to the service tech. He said this new one communicates way better with them.. -
Only Eckster could use a little more schooling on how to repair my puter problems:rasberry:,, had me doing all kinds of crazy things not even applicable to puter stuff

THANK YOU GENTLEMEN!! @Marcarl,, sounds like you might be the man of the hour...

Looking at an 85.. I already done the research and have the good VIN memorized (1416 and above for the no more 2nd gear issues right @Venturous Randy? = THANK YOU BUDDY).. Anyway,, need a little more info if any has it. Does the 85 come with the stator upgrade (oil hole in crank nut and splash plate), diaphram clutch, aluminum water pump impeller? Were the frame issues I have heard about (fortunately never experienced it - knock on wood cause still riding Tweeks) resolved by then. Also, I know the 85's still had the clam shell bags, do they mount the same as the 83's, hangers the same so its the same process to remove rear wheel for tire change? Are the brake calipers the still the early style or can these be swapped out to the upgraded R6 calipers? Any other things you can include (plus or minus's) would be appreciated.. Thanks ya'll.. Puc

88 Vaccum leak
cowpuc replied to chocking's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have used both many times.. Usually I save the propane method for checking crank seals on two strokes cause I am looking for at a specific item (one seal). The problem with using when many items could be the issue and they are all located in the same area is that your dealing with a gas and its hard to control to one specific point.. Liquid works better in the application we are talking.. -

HF Jack for 83 Venture
cowpuc replied to SpencerPJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Indeed, you will probably get all kinds of response to this Spence and most folks are gonna say = that Puc, he is crazy but - I wouldnt hesitate one minute on purchasing that jack, slipping her under my 83 and jacking it up.. I am gonna try to attach a pic here showing exactly that.. Been doing it for years, have never had an issue with crushing pipes, pipes loosening at the head or elsewhere.. On the same token though - I do a little trail riding on my scoots when the need arises and most of the undersides of them are not exactly dent free anyway - few goobs of welds and weeds hanging down and all that.. I have tried many different approaches to what your talking about and have found right on the pipe aronies to be the solidest lift points.. Another point though, I think the square tubing on the lift in the pic is about 2 inches in width.. Depending on on the width of the lift arms on that jack your looking at, gotta be careful with narrow lift arms - I think the potential for crushing pipes would go up if your lifting with 1inch width arms... Maybe cut a couple two by fours to lay on the arms must to spread the weight wider on the pipes... The lift in pic is a harbor frieght lift, I lifted my 83's many many times on it from the pipes - works great.. -
One of the GREAT things I LOVE about our site is that each one of us now have the scamming world kinda by the toes if you will.. What @stanG has done here is exactly why I say that. Also his stopping and prechecking the scoot out for Dusty BEFORE the Chaplin found himself faced with that sick feeling of facing a machine that was totally misrepresented.. Personally, I think we are fools (go back to sleep @Flyinfool - your radar picked up the wrong message = wasnt talking about you behind your back = this time ) if we are seriously headed down that familiar road of purchasing something in another demographic area and dont at least post it up and see if some innocent bystander VR member varmint () who might live near said scoot and give em chance to get a quick peek.. Scammers of all types usually will run and hide if you can say - I live right down the road - be right there:cool10: The power of "got chur back brother" trumpts them scammers con jobs almost everytime:witch_brew:

Yep,, I thinks it a 2nd Gen part though cause its the part that keeps bike from getting the riders lost.. The part that pranksters like you and I would have never been able to use anyway Dan:big-grin-emoticon: -

,,,, ahhh ohhh,, another one of those varmints speaking in code,, send smoke signals Silv = THOSE I can figure out:doh: Our provider fixer upper man was just here.. This thing is rippppppinnnnn again!! Apparently my router may have been part of the problem.. He said something about it being old and being set to being constantly looked at for authentification where this new one goes right thru and is not being constantly monitored.. Also moved it upstairs so now I have 5 bars of signal instead of 3.. Checked all the lines, set up the phone on 1 pair and the router on a separate pair too.. I explained to him how competitive our site is and that, being a hard core 1st Gen rider - I aint use to losing.. Guy died laughing ( - guess he dont really understand the difference between the 1st n 2nd Gen Ventures:rasberry:), then he said - well the way I have you set up now - you have a 1st Gen streetbike so you got em whooped there and a 2nd Gen router that is showing 3g of speed so you got em whooped there too = BEST OF BOTH WORLDS:guitarist 2::happy65::happy65: Cant WAIT for this winter when all 12000 members are on the site and I am still able to zip around the site like a chicken pecking ants:bowdown: THANKS again for all the assistance you guys, sorry if I added to your work load @Freebird but thank you for checking things out on your end my friend.. Keep Puc -
Owners of the shop probably took their marketing classes at the same place the folks at places like ABC Warehouse,, the old "sorry, we are out of that model but...." Hmmm,, I wonder if a person could use that same scam for a Meet n Greet,,, M n G sales ad reads - free Hot Dogs - Pop - Chips and all the trimmings.. Then folks from all over North America show up only to find the scammer has nothing of the sort - tricked em all into showing up just to take advantage of a chance to get to meet some new friends, maybe get some pictures and a few half baked video's Seriously though Stan,, THANK YOU for the heads up about Approval - between their sneakiness with our friend Dusty and now this little ploy I too would suggest steering clear of those rascal's.. Lots of good dealerships here in Michigan and a few bad ones - thanks for doing your part to help us sort em out brother - you da man Stan Puc

Start at the bottom and work your up with the spray, that way if its a leak in the lower area it wont be triggered by spray running down - leading you to a false location.. -

YOU BETCHA AMIGO!!!!! No parameters on the hot dogs brother!!! -
Back in 01 when I still had my bike shop it was common practice for me to help the Franchised Dealerships out by purchasing their left over new scoots. A Harley shop in Indiana had a Concord Grape Purple Wide Glide they just couldn't sell (thing was drop dead GORGEOUS - had golden inlaid Harley emblems on the tank that looked like they were imbedded 3 inches deep - WAYYYYYY PURDY:178:). I picked it up way below wholesale - brand new still in the crate.. They wouldn't let me take it with Certificate of Orgin so I had to leave it a couple days while they put it together. Jumped on Ebay looking for buyers.. First guy I contacted was bidding on a new Black Wide Glide. Told him what I had, he said THAT is EXACTLY the color I really really really want BUT Harley told em 1 year wait for that paint job - offered me 1500 over MSRP? The man asked how soon I could get it to him out in Jersey.. This was a Thursday, was picking bike up on Saturday in Indiana, told him I had just finished a 2 month western tour on my Venture, could do 50 mile break in (thats right - Harley had an UNDER 35 mph 50 mile breakin back then ) on way home in Ravenna, head to his house and be there by Monday no problem.. Come to find out, guy owned a HUGE car dealership in Jersey - about 1/2 hour from Manhatten.. He said if you would do that, I will Bank Transfer money for the bike, overnight you plates - insurance, pay ya a buck a mile for your time, treat ya like royalty when here, put ya up at a top class motel at the airport and fly ya home first class . I reminded him that owning a new car dealership - maybe he could have the biked shipped with Certificate of Origin - still in crate - put his own bike together for fun,,, NO NO NO _ WANT IT NOW!!! Met me in his driveway, patting the back of his 3 month old baby girl (PRECIOUS), dressed in shirt n tie, super nice wife - LOVELY couple! Guy lived in a home high in these hills, told me place was 30 million - it was BEAUTIFUL!! He says,, wanna go explore the City - I will ride my new bike and you can ride my "old one" (his "old" Harley had under 2k miles on it).. Of course I said YOU BETCHA!! He disappeared for about 20 minutes while I sat playing with da kid.. Came downstairs dressed EXACTLY like you are talking Lenny!!! LOTS of really super awesome Professional folks do exactly what you are talking about - go to the Sturgis Rally sometime if you wanna see the extreme of it.. Pretty unique really...

And here are some words of wisdom from your Mentor Duey,, "most business establishments follow the code of NO SHOES - NO SHIRT - NO SERVICE,, therefore its always best to carry your shoes and a shirt on your bike somewhere just in case" -
Hmmmm,, Tip has a mid October birthday,, I wonder if Mother Yamaha read our new Venture wants/needs in that other thread, noticed that my description was perfect in every way and that they decided to produce one for Tippy and to give it to her on her birthday:clap2::clap2::clap2::dancefool: If so, dont worry you guys,, I will talk to Tippy and see if I can get her to let you camp by it and maybe she will even let me take you each for a ride around Don's pond next year at MD:Laugh:
