  1. I hear that bro,, I think it's what the shrinks would call a "love/hate relationship"
  2. Nobility, kindness and thoughtfulness come in many fashions GW, I think the actions you took toward your fellow man are another perfect example of what I am talking about brother. I also think your last comment about helping his loved ones work thru the grieving process also demonstrate the type of person we should all strive to be, thank you for being there for them. I know it has got to be very difficult but please know Tip n I are sending our Prayers Up for you and this person's loved ones my friend. IMHO, there are many things that can cause depression so deep that a person would take their own life. Everything from extensive lack of love - sheer loneliness , a person's inability to forgive others and himself/herself, inability to recognize the spiritual side of man, physical pain, hormonal imbalances and on and on.. It is always inspiring for me to read of friends of mine like yourself who do the noble thing of reaching out to people like your friend regardless of what the root cause was. May your friend rest in peace and may his family/friends find nothing but the richest blessings possible thru your continued support Great White! Condolences Puc n Tip
  3. WOW,, WHAT A MESS!! Prayers Up and Blessings Down for all involved in that crisis!!
  4. At a boy Billy - THANK YOU Sir William - a genuine concerned lop earned varmint ye be!!
  5. Hear say also has it that if you are a felon or been declared a little touched - missing a few cards from the deck - not the sharpest nail in pouch - elevator dont go all the up or for any other reason instability can be proven - you walk.. While I am certainly no felon, I think the next time I get one of those job applications in the mail I will just print out a couple weeks of "The Water Hole" and send it in with my app so the courts know what kind of family I belong to.
  6. Unless I missed something here,, it appears to me that Dan O' has a "done deal" on keeping the Warden grinning by getting some more grass to mow instead of buying another scoot (including this trike) and that good ol Silver is going to still be around as Dan's steed. That Yammer, he does a good job of following the code, Article 14, Section 139.77A,, and I read my fellow lop eared varmints: "If mama aint happy, aint no "buddy" happy".. Please correct if I missed something here:thumbsup: On another note, wish I were closer cause I would gladly take a peek for ya'll..
  7. OUTSTANDING JEFF!!! :clap2::clap2::dancefool::dancefool: Sooooo glad to hear your feeling better my friend, here's to continued better health for our FlyingFool!! I do feel pretty bad for that scoot of your's having had to sit for all that time.. Tell ya what brother,, why dont cha just leave the Wisconsin White Washer parked for a while and show that pretty scoot of yours some love. As far as any concern for your lop eared varmint buddy on the other side of the pond, even though he did buy a new lawn tractor that has a blower attachment, I can assure you that there would be no hard feelings on his part if this Christmas had to be a green one @Flyinfool
  8. Hey Dan O',, get ahold of @Flyinfool and see if he can tweek your vertical hold servo for ya (located frontal lobe, left side), he did mine a while back and it really helped with those stutter bumps. Yep,, we are a lot of like brother!
  9. THANKS for story Howard! Brought back some great memories of yesteryear! Fortunately you had the CB,, those low pipes probably help keep her upright.. I had an early RD350 Yam that I actually trail road for a while - even put a set of knobs on it.. Got a lot of looks and laughs from my buddy's cause they were riding "real" dirtbikes.. They laughed till we hit sand or mud and those low pipes acted like ski's while that little 350 tossed mud in the faces:big-grin-emoticon:
  10. Since you were kind enough to share a pic Don,, here are a couple pics of one of my 750 SOHC Chops.. Look carefully under the front of the seat, notice the old Amen Chrome tank? That was the oil reservoir (oil bag) on that build.. Same principle as that pretty looking 500 you posted.
  11. Nope,, your thinking about the right bike Boss.. That is called a "dry sump" lube system = oil is pumped in and out of an external holding area, a wet sump system is where the oil pump scavenges from an internal engine oil res = like our Yamaha Ventures. Good ol Yamaha stepped up to the plate with even the early model of the 500's with that frame res, it worked great cause it allowed the oil to cool much better.. We had a LOT of problems with our early XR Honda's back in the day because they would destroy the oil so fast from heat.. Then Honda went dry sump on them in 85,, MUCH more durable!! Same deal with the early Honda 750's Boss, up to 78 (all the SOHC's) they were all dry sump bikes - thats why they had an "oil bag".. This also made those early models VERY durable motors. Then they went to the 750 DOHC's starting in 79 and the dry sump 750 went bye bye.. I LOVED building chops using the SOHC's, they were fun to build and I always liked the look of the plumbed in oil bags..
  12. :rotfl:.. Thats great GW but sorry about the loss of your helmet brother,,, give that wife of yours a hug for us and tell us thanks for her steady hand and careful eye!! Now,, about our forum 's policy... Its situations like the one you just described that us beggars live for!!
  13. It will be interesting to read the responses you get from folks who have actually owned and operated both bikes Ham,, looking forward to reading them!! Just wondered if you ever checked the frame on your RSV? Might suggest this: Take a friend who you trust to ride your scoot - go find a big parking lot or quiet piece of roadway where you can play.. Have your buddy ride your bike out a half block or so, lay down on the pavement and look down the axis of the tires with him coming straight at you - he doesnt have to be going real fast but fast enough that he can maintain a good straight line.. If the frame is tweeked you should be able to pick it up in tire to tire alignment visually.. I have purchased a few tweeked frame bikes from salvage for parts/restoration and can tell ya, you get scoot whose neck is twisted and what you are describing is how they can "feel" = weird.. Another issue can be a little tight on the neck bearings or bad neck bearings.. Its amazing how this will effect in a very bad way, a scoots cornering charactoristics..
  14. Sounds like your buddy and his Sporty got off what could have been a really really bad situation in fairly decent shape Bren. Certainly not playing down his fall but brother - its not uncommon for the quick steering Sportsters to go the other way and high side = ouchy ouch!! Good on ya for being there for him either way Bren and glad he is ok!! I had an incident recently on Crud my Vmax pretty similar to your buddies.. Same kinda deal,, all qeeked out having some late season new bike fun.. Neighbor following me minding his own business ( ( @bluestar99 ), come around a corner I have taken at speed many times - no gravel or dirt BUT pavement tempts had recently changed a LOT - in the excitement of the day I had forgotten about that common issue to watch out for:doh:. Thankfully I was on the Max cause I may not have been able to save the spill on our heavier 83.. Happens quick dont it!! Right back at you on your last sentence brother!!
  15. OUTSTANDING OR!! :clap2::clap2::dancefool:
  16. :sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that: Prayers Up for ALL you folks dealing with that hurricane down there - BE SAFE MY FRIENDS!! How bout you folks Joe, you guys alright? Just caught the evening news - hokey spamokey, what a mess!
  17. WOW ZZZZ WOW WOW WOW Red,, THAT is AWESOME:178:!!!!!! GOTTA LOVE COLORFUL COLORADO Thank you for including us and not making us beg for 's - you da man bro!! Hey Jeff,, spray some more salt water on the door hinges of those Canadian back doors while your up there will ya brother!!
  18. Ahhh yes,, shame on me Mr. Bird,, shame on me:buttkick:!! How dare I miss one of the trail icon's of yesteryear my friend:thumbsup:.. Like you mentioned, I also remember how good ol Mother Yamaha took liberity to help teach us how to start a REAL thumper by placing a small window on the rocker cover above the right end of the cam shaft. Then they put a small white line on the cam to visibly show boneheads that couldn't "feel" the cam land between the valves for easy starting - a four stroke kickstarting technique that saved many many potential broken knees and ankles (also turned a 50 kick bike into a 1 or 2 kick magic machine:big-grin-emoticon: I actually tried to teach that easy start method to the guy that bought Olivia Don. Months later when I saw him at MD, I was surprised when he told me that the top notch mechanic who "tuned" Olivia for him told him and he didnt have to do that any longer.. I just shook my head while I sat n watched him kick that poor ol 42 over and over trying to demonstrate the prowess of that mechanics advice - I guess some of the things we learned thru the years of biking still hold true my brother:big-grin-emoticon:!! Oh,, by the way,, those 500 Yams were AWESOME flat-trackers!! Talk about maniac but controllable torque to hang the back tire out there! :checkeredflag:
  19. By the way Bert, we have never owned or actually ridden a Gen 2. I have been told that one of the issues with the 2nd Gen has to do with the passenger having to do with more wind buffeting than on the 1st Gen fixed fairing scoots.. I wonder if your wife being shorter like she is may actually not be a blessing in disguise when it comes to that issue?
  20. This is a VERY interesting subject Bert. One that has Tippy and I for a long time. In our case, the RSV seating makes my wife Tip feel like she is sitting a way to high above me (she is tall). We LOVE the seating on Tweeks, our 83 1st Gen because it puts her in just the right spot to be able to see above me when I am leaned back against her. My thought was always that if we ever did find the need to swap out to an RSV I would get ahold of the seat guru here on VR = Rick Butler and see if he could produce an RSV seat to our specs:fingers-crossed-emo. I would suggest that you do the same.. If the Butler mod seat champ cant do this, I am SURE that there are custom seat folks somewhere out there that could make a custom seat for you folks that would put those seat height needs exactly where you want them!
  21. Ya know what Bill,, I have often thought that if Tip n I ever did end up with an RSV or RSTD we would really really miss the bars on our 83's.. I gotta have "back and in" to get comfortable,, just looking at the RSV's makes me wonder how hard a pair of 6 bend Chopper bars would be to install on one..
  22. Thats pretty strange Sys, here in Michigan we have a BUNCH of single track dirt bike trails that are "loops" thru the National/State Land forests in both the Lower and Upper Penninsula's. We also have the Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail - a gorgeous single track trail with 30" wide room for handlebars to pass thru (its tight but it keeps the quads out - they have their own trail system anyway:missingtooth:). For many years I belonged to the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan and we also have Off Road Chapters consisting of groups of single track dirt bikers covering all of Michigan. I preached "street legaling" dirt bikes for many years to enable us dirt bikers for many many years. It was always fairly easy to do here, add a lighting coil, lights, a horn, a fold away mirror, some DOT Knobs, plates and insurance and you could connect all the trail loops and ride our Cross Country Trail legally! Adds a whole new deminsion to the world of MX Bikes:thumbsup: I must have converted over 500 MX bikes at my shop thru the years. I also personally know LOTS of Michigan riders who have done their own too.. I always wished there would have been a way to convert Quads too, would have been a BLAST to have a street legal Banshee or Honda TRX250R with street tires on em.. The snag with doing that here in Michigan is the "straight" axle those quads had - we have a "green sheet" we have to work from that a Police Officer checks off when you have the bike inspected to obtain the street Title. Part of that includes a "differential" section for any 4 wheeled vehicle.. No differential - no street legal status. Funny how the States differ. I will never forget the first time I pulled into Salina Utah when heading west. Kids riding all over town on dirtbikes and quads:think:. Got talking with a youngster about it, asked if it was legal.. He proudly acclaimed it as part of the fun of living in Utah. Then a guy pulls into the same station with a BUMPER hitch on the back of his truck pulling a camping trailer, camping trailer also had a BUMPER hitch with a boat behind it (Michigan you can do that with a 5th Wheel but NOT a bumper hitch) - when asked if that was legal he had pretty much the same response. Then I asked an MX biker if there were any trails up into the mountains from there,, he just points and says, yea,, its all trails:confused24:,, we just ride:witch_brew:.. Then I asked the same question about camping over night in a tent in there,, he laughed and said - anywhere you want to,, then he said "you folks in Michigan must really have it rough" and rode off..
  23. He didnt cry like they do when that clapped out, sticker covered, 300k mile beat up ol Tweeked on 83 Venture goes slicing by em Dan:big-grin-emoticon: And I think that Tippy secretly knows that in my case,, Tweeks and I do occasionally sneak off and still ride like that NOTICE THE LAUGHTER AT THE END OF VID:big-grin-emoticon:
  24. Sounds good @rbig1,, only the Curator at the museum would be like,,, lets see here:think:, do we place this thing in the "I LOVE America" section , in the extinct wild animal section:think:, the sticker art section:think:, the outdoor survival section:think:, at the front door and use it as a sign in registry:think:.. They certainly would never put Tweeks in the motorcycle section next to all those gorgeous extra clean examples of touring bikes of yesteryear
