  1. Now THAT pic should go up on our "Pure Michigan" tourist signs MiRider!!! BEEAAUUTIFUL!!! Looking closely at that pic, doesnt even look like it's been field dressed,,, maybe a roadkill the guy picked up = if so, definitely my kinda Michigander!! another look,, kinda maybe even looks a little bloated = if so, definitely not my kind of Michigander
  2. Couple years ago Tip and I rode "50" = "The Loneliest Highway In America" as part of our annual 2 month motorcycle westerly migration. Tip had made it a point during our 35 year married life that she wanted me to show her some Elk in the wilds and I had been reminded of this again on this trip.. We left Salina Utah heading west on 50. Started getting later in the day as we approached "Connor Pass" (GORGEOUS). Hadnt seen a car or another bike for a LONG time, just crested the pass and 3 GORGEOUS cow Elks ran right across in front of us - within 20 feet!! Slowed way down talking about the fact that Tip had FINALLY gotten to see some Elk, maybe doing 20 mph and there went 2 more.. Tippy was like :clap2::clap2::dancefool::dancefool: :thumbsup2: I FINALLY GETTING TO SEE SOME ELK!! Seeing the size of them and how populated that area was, I was now slowed down to a crawl as we rounded the last bend on the downhill of the crest.. Right there on the side of the road stood a HUGE BULL ELK WITH A HUGE BULL ELK RACK just standing there at a slight angle to us.. Was doing no more than 5 mph per hour, I could see our reflection in his eyeball as we went around him.. Got almost around him (I was riding the center line - he was on the shoulder THANKFULLY) and he charged us!!!!!!!!! I nailed the throttle and he came within millimeters of Tips right leg - she literally could have reach down and touched his nose!!! :scared:Thing was MASSIVE! I went about 1/4 mile, road off road into a little valley to set up camp - Tip asked what I was doing,, I said I aint riding no farther till I know the killer Elk they have in this area are all done with their evening attacks !!!
  3. Some more interesting ice cream trivia, there is a place called Leatherby's Ice Cream in Elk Grove California. I have no idea how long they have been there or how many flavor's they offer. I do know that they have THE BEST ice cream EVER if you get Banana Nut. Cant vouch for any other flavors beside Banana Nut.. Maybe @Condor or @EasyRider will chime in and fill in more of the trivia about them in case someone reading this wants to know where to get the best BANANA NUT ICE CREAM in existence.
  4. :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
  5. Good question JF,,, I usually just leave the upper tubes in the tree and remove the lower legs from them. Never have had the uppers all the way out.. My money would be on the seals on those collars are what is holding up the process.. By the way,,, when you go to remove the lower legs - you might find you will need something along the line of an air wrench to spin the bolt out of the innards on the lower legs - takes a little extra speed to spin that bolt out while the innards are spinning too. That is one of the reasons I like to rebuild em with the upper tubes still clamped up on the scoot.. Does all that make sense?
  6. COOL!! THANKS DJ!! I actually already had a couple Sprints, the older ones became pretty valuable as they were actually pretty popular for Flat Trackin.. Showed the ad to Tip and she wondered where she would put the "Womens Health Care and Beauty Aids Department" on a bike that small It the thought that matters though DJ - THANK YOU!!
  7. Awe,, thanks @Barrycuda, Bar please tell you daughter I said thanks for making room on her very humble list for ol Pucsters desperate motorcycling needs The pic I posted up is the 2000 FLSTS Heritage Springer. I also REALLY like the same model in the older, Evo motored scoots BUT prefer the one in the pic cause I think the new Twin Cams are more durable if you upgrade the oil pumps and the cam chain tentioners to current production standards. Pretty bike aint it? :lightbulb:because she sounds like such a nice young lady, please tell your daughter that I hope and think that she should get everything on her list this year
  8. Wow BJ, THANKS a gazillion for all the prep work on the up coming Pie Butt 26.2 - its appreciated!! In your endeavors to make sure those roads are cleared for landing would you mind scouting and clearing the main road going North out of Newell for about 400 miles? We rode up that road for about 100 miles and had to turn back cause the pie was calling but plan on following it further in 2016 to see where it goes - it was just getting really really GORGEOUS when we turn around.. Thinking I would be one to take the reckless driving ticket over getting hit by a deer if I have a choice - specially one of those great big Muley's like you guys got out there.. Rather pay a fine then be found in the obituary's
  9. Gotta agree with what our buddies are saying here Pav, if you are dropping into Fifth at 45 mph you are probably hearing the drive train strain and the engine shutter from being lugged. Try not shifting into Overdrive (5th) under 60 mph and see if that makes a difference..
  10. it wasnt my fault,, swear on my old Captain America Helmet,, I was a victim of circumstance :crackup:sure felt like a TURKEY though :big-grin-emoticon: Ohhh the great times those who missed those hot dog specials missed eay brother
  11. :lightbulb:had a buddy looking at the new Scout,, he is Vet and was telling me that they (Vic) had some kind of special thingy going on for Vets, Police and Fireman too - you any of those DJ? May end up GIVING you a scoot Prices are amazing right now and I gotta hunch they are only gonna get better as we creep into winter!!
  12. And just for you taking that in the spirit that it was intended MiRider,, YOU get an extra Hot Dog at the next Meet n Greet brother!! Now you know why I used to get beat up a lot when I was a kid
  13. Seems how no one else wants to take a shot at this I will Blackowl,, gonna be the blind leading the blind here though:big-grin-emoticon: Up in the upper right hand corner of any page on VR you will see "settings" - first icon left of your "logout" button. Click on "settings". Scroll all the way down to the last "settings" button found on the left side of your screen. Click on that "settings" icon. Make sure none of the 4 boxes found in this area are checked, if they are - click on that box to uncheck them and make sure you click on "save" before you leave that page..
  14. SHEESHHH,, sounds like your onto something there brother.. We would DEFINITELY wanna pick Canada for our time together!! Last I heard they were still hanging folks in the U.S. (Texas) just for stealing a little ol cow and even a improper helmet in California will cost ya 500 bucks (never got hanged but I do know about the Helmet laws in Cali from experience). Just occurred to me, wonder if we could choose Canada and pay our fines with US Dollars and take advantage of the exchange rate on our fines, :lightbulb:we could actually end up making more money on that "system" than we did on our fuel sales
  15. Unlike Arnold Shwartsnegger, I think me and that Pancho may have actually had something in common,, I have always felt in my heart that if I were ever gonna find the need to outrun the Coppers on a motorcycle I would definitely not want to find a 75 horse HD under my butt. THAT is one thing I did not agree with in the Terminator Movies (rest of it was spot on though)
  16. Sounds GREAT Huggy :dancefool::dancefool: ,, with your Canadian connections then we can go into business together - run a pipeline from here up into Canada , open our own fuel station line up there called "Huggy n Puc's", sell our fuel for 2/3 of any one else in the area and still make a good living!! Why we could even give a 5 cent per gallon discount to all VR Members and even have free Hot Dog Days :scratchchin:Quick question for ya my soon to be house guest, any idea if,, being an "international company",, would we have a choice between or systems to spend our retirement years in together if our endeavor proved to be slightly underhanded?
  17. I feel for you (and all my Canadian brothers) Hugger!! I remember paying just under 6 bucks a gallon out in Death Valley California a couple years ago - cashier didnt even smile when I handed her 30 bucks to fill up my scoot .. Be curious to know, short time ago when we were paying 4 bucks a gallon here in Michigan - what were you folks paying? What has been the highest/lowest you guys have had to pay for fuel? Wonder what off shore prices are like, @StarFan - what are fuel prices like in Norway and Iceland?
  18. YEEEEEEEE HAWWWWWWWW $1.69 in Muskegon Michigan:happy65:,,,,, oh, wait a minute there's more,, using a 3 pennies off card its $1.66 Now if it would warm up I would summon's my Hot Dog cookin crew and toss a great big old fashioned best of the best Puc's Greet Meet and Eat Meat and invite EVERYONE to come for a...... Oh, wait a minute,, got over overly excited about the price of fuel and almost hi-jacked another thread:buttkick:
  19. @Dokon , aint heard a peep out of ya for many many a moon brother - wanted you to know that where ever you are and whatever your doing, Tip and I want to wish you a :Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday: Hope all is well and that you and that wife of yours are still enjoying that GORGEOUS Goldwing!! PS,, ahhh the precious memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Thats weird Don, I was thinking the same thing about the Strat/Roadliner - checked the roster and could find none of the "1900"'s listed so I didnt go there.. Was kinda scratching my head cause I thought the Yamaha Dealer in Sturgis told me that he was anticipating an updated Strat into a touring bike.. Hey,, you notice that East Side in Toledo is having some killer deals on left over Indians? Man those are pretty bikes!!
  21. @Pegasus1300 ,, hey Paul - how's your weather there in Utah? You still riding? You thinking of doing the Pie Butt again next year? Hope so - was LOTS of fun brother!!
  22. Funny you bring this up Cruise, I was just playing around checking the same thing out,,, come on Mother Yamaha!! Speaking of 1300's,, it seems like just yesterday that 1300cc's of motor was HUGE... Where'd the time go....
  23. Oh,, by the way,, give your buddy a good pat on the back and from me will ya!! 170k on a Roadie ain't nothing to scoff at!!
  24. See ya got tank vent checked off already cause that was the first thing I was mention,, lets see here.. Beau, if I were there I would grab a new plug, ride the scoot till it stalls and wont start -leave the key ON - unplug a plug terminal and plug in the new plug - ground it and hit the starter to see what cha got spark wise. If spark checks good I would repeat the same process, run till it dies - turn fuel petcock off as soon as it dies, open carb drain and see if the bowl has fuel in it. If it does, remove air filter, take a squirt bottle of fuel, run till it dies and squirt a little fuel into the carb throat and see if it fires. You said you did a compression check already, never worked on a Roadstar (I am assuming we are talking about a "Roadie" = 1700cc pushrod motor?). Gonna go out on a limb and say if it is a pushrod motor it probably has hydraulic lifters. If it has hydraulic lifters - perhaps the lifters are collapsing under usage so the valves arent opening correctly - seems kind of far shot but I suppose its possible.. Must say though, in the end, it would not surprise me to find that your problem is fuel related and related right back to that rusty tank. I have done many restores thru the years and lots of rusty tank jobs in my bike restoring and have never had any kind of luck with just cleaning the tank and then adding in line filters with hopes of removing remaining rust - just never worked for me. That nasty fine stuff would always find its way thru even the best of filters and plug up jets. Always seemed like I ended up in similar shoes to what you are going thru and then recleaning carbs and all that - got tired of chasing my tail and started coating everything that came to me rusted. My last several years of business I used a product called "Red Kote" for relining tanks and found it to do a great job (I still know of several bikes running around with tanks I sealed 20 years ago that are doing great) - far superior to anything I had ever used before. I KNOW how ya feel brother - been there many times.. Stick with it, you will get it figured out!!! All the best Puc
  25. Another one for you Eck, years ago - when I was a kid we had this thing called "State Insurance" that we could purchase through the State of Michigan. Most of us kids carried it cause it was the only way we could get on the road (no money ya know). For 25 dollars the State would "insure" you BUT - ya had to pay them back if ya got in a wreck.. I had the brakes go out on my 1964 Chevy Pickup one time at the last stop light in Grand Haven while carrying State Insurance. Lady in front of me with a brand new Cadillac slammed on her brakes when the light turned yellow - I ended up with one of those big ol Caddy tail lights embedded in the hood of my truck. State Police were across the street so we went over there. Ended up costing me 350 bucks to get her car fixed (dont sound like much now but back then that was a ton of cash).
