Cap, hope your ok out there. Sounds like you might be running on 3. Start the bike, let it idle, put some spit on your finger and touch each header pipe one at a time and check them for heat like your checking a hot iron. You will probably find one pipe that dont sizzle like the others - this will be your non hitting jug. Pull the plug on that cylinder, put the plug back in the plug cap, lay it against the head (or other metal part) to ground it. Start the bike back up and see if its sparkin.. If it's not and you dont have a new plug to check for spark, you can stick a screw drive up into the plug cap, hold onto the handle of the screw driver so you dont get zapped, hold the shaft of the screw driver a 1/4 inch or so away from a metal surface on the bike, start it up again and see if you get an arc from the metal screw driver shaft to the bike.. Hoping its a plug but Carb diaphrams will cause problems like your experiencing too. If you got good spark, I am thinking that is where I would venture next..

Yep,, your thinking is linked to the reason I inquired about it, was just thinking it would be pretty cool to just be able to follow along with people we havent heard from in a while.. Kind of a "catch all" of activity.. Our own "VR facebook ticker tape" as it were ... I did sign up and got accepted at our facebook but found it kind of overwhelming if you will.. Do you remember making that post a while back about us not using the different areas on our site here? You made a comment in there about it appearing like we all just wanted a "watering hole" and about how horrible it would be if that was what VR became because of how easy it would be for things to get lost - not your exact words but I think I am close to it? Those words became clear to me as I tried to follow thru our Facebook page,, real difficult to keep track of the who, what, where, whens and all that.. I do check in at Facebook once in a while and read lots of our members posts and that is fun to stay in contact that way but it is a fair amount of scrolling, maybe I just havent spent enough time learning to navigate our page there.. Just thought maybe a scrolling facebook thing here would help keep us together - in the spirit of fighting against dividing us as you mentioned above:think:....

Nope,, thinking Fool has perfected the efficiency on the nozzles of the White Washer to eliminate over spray with it's resulting collateral damage. At this time I am happy to report that the arc of his trajectory for the east coast is spot on with no leakage detected.. Tried to tell you guys to be nice to FlyinFool but some people just wont listen,,, give em books and give em books and what do they do,,,,,,

Back when I was young I spent a fair amount of time racing dirt bikes. Later in those years, O-ring chains became all the rage (probably still are) because they were sealed and supposedly never needed lubing. Problem with them was they robbed a fair amount of power that could be useful if you wanted to have a small competitive edge so I usually stayed with non o-ring chains. Problem with the non-ring chains was they wore quickly if not maintained with good lubrication. Similar to your situation BJ, I found that any form of "wet" lube that I used on my chains actually worked against me because the wetness would pick up dirt from the tracks and turn my chains lubricant into more of a lapping compound than a lubricant. I found a solution that worked really well in the bicycle chain lube world with their high wax "dry" lube. In spray form, the wax is suspended in a fast drying agent that, after it dried, left the dried "wax" in place as a lube. Worked GREAT except it took a fair amount of applications before a heavy wax film developed.. I too tried using spray on white grease BJ, it worked fine except it was grease so it never dried and still collected dirt. Another down fall with the aerasol white grease was that it too had to be applied many times before it built up a good grease base. Problem was once I made the initial application, all added applications were made over the top of contaminated grease.. Thru the years going all the way back into the 60's, I am thinking I tried about every experiment known to man trying to keep from wearing out chain/sprockets on my dirtbikes (including things like dipping chain in a heated mix of 90 wt gear lube/grease mix) but thru the years found nothing worked as well as the bicycle chain spray on "dry lube" when it came to the dry, talcum powder like dust that was found on some of the sandy tracks around here..

In the spirit of an attempt to and maybe get some input on this discussion from folks who know a lot more about the later model MK2 1st Gens than I do (have never owned or worked on one) I would like to add: I think the frame issue's that @VenturousRandy was addressing was more of an issue with specific model(s), 83's I am thinking.. Certainly worth a look see to make sure the frame isn't kaput but I gotta hunch the issue is CLASS related. I have owned a number of "linked" mono shock dirtbikes thru the years and discovered that the added rear suspention travel due to the dynamics of "linking" can and does translate into a reverse of that (resulting in an increase in the loss of sag) when a shock goes south. I am no math genius but I do know that 1/4 of an inch of sag loss on the shock of a non linked set up can translate into a LOT more sag loss on a "linked" system. Looking at the two set ups we are talking about here (87 vrs 89) the 87 is not a linked system and like the 89 is. The 89 may or may not also require a shock with more travel to accommodate the type of linked system it has - might not be a bad idea to check Yamaha Part Numbers and see if the two shocks are different. While I do totally agree with the mechanic whose logic tells him that a blown shock should not affect sag because it is the spring that controls sag (carries the weight of the bike), IMHO he is missing something. Our shocks are air over coil shocks, meaning that air pressure does play a part in supporting the load carried by the spring. That is why your bike will raise and lower when you add or release air. Also, most modern dirtbikes use a "damping" form dynamics with another gas in their rear shocks, Nitrogen is used for this. I have never torn a Venture rear shock apart but it would not surprise me to find out that our Venture rear shocks are also Nitrogen Gas charged for dampening but this would NOT have to do with the CLASS system that employs under 70 pounds of compressed air (Nitrogen used from dampening is usually charged at a much higher PSI). Alllllll that said KIC,, YES - it is highly possible that the entire problem has to do with your bikes "Class" system and not the shock. It is highly possible that there is something wrong in the circuitry of the Class system that is telling the "release" air solenoid to release air. It could also just be a sticky or malfunctioning release valve but it sounds to me like the valve is not maintaining signal when you go from ACC to On on the switch.. Do you have a manual that shows you how to check the system, including the solenoids?
