99' cruise issues
cowpuc replied to tj3777's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
No idea if this is applicable to yours but I know on one of my first 1st Gens I had cruise (it was a Royale) that, after it got close to 300k on it the clutch lever got so tired and worn that a simple bump in the road would cause the switch for the cruise at the clutch to interrupt.. It's a small micro switch that is probably the same on your scoot. Cant remember if there is one also on the front and rear brake pedals but I think there was.. Anyway, perhaps one of these interlock switches is out of adjustment or gone faulty.. Might be worth a check.. -
OUTSTANDING JOB Z:clap2:!! You know me,, I will be anxiously waiting for the pics!! PS,,, extra points for additional night pics showing off that beauty!!!

You are more than welcome Bert,, glad to help brother!! There is a little more to the story... Basically it's a theory of my own that revolves around the thought that Gremlins are/were actually Shovelhead Harley parts but ergo, that is another story in itself and my fingers are getting tired

The Story Legend has it that Evil Road Spirits have been latching themselves on to motorcycles for as long as there have been bikes on the road. These Evil Road Spirits are responsible for mechanical problems and bad luck along a journey. Legend goes on to say that by attaching a small bell onto your bike, the Evil Road Spirits will become trapped inside the bell where the constant ringing drives them insane, making them lose their grip until they fall to the ground. (Ever wonder where potholes come from?) Legend also has it that the mystery of the Guardian™ Bell carries twice as much power when it is purchased by a friend or loved one and given as a gift. Show someone how much you care. Offer them defense against the Evil Road Spirits! Give a Guardian™ Bell and share the Legend of Good Luck it offers to a motorcycle and its rider!

Just more bling Kiwi ] Actually they are a little bell that folks tie on their scoots to spook off Gremlins ,, no really,, stop laughing,, we really do that here in the states :crackup: I had one once but either the Gremlins stole it during the night OR it got torn off on the willy weeds (now dont go asking me what willy weeds are - you should have LOTS of those in New Zealand) while looking for a place to camp.. Problem I always found with them is that according to my anti Gremlin book, your suppose to hang them as close to the ground as possible to keep the Gremlin critters away.. After loosing my bell (and some of my marbles) I decided to switch to stickers and have found them just as effective as a bell in Gremblin Protection.. Here is a link to Gremlin Bell http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEVER-RIDE-FASTER-Guardian-Bell-Motorcycle-Harley-Accessory-HD-Gremlin-NEW-/380799294536?hash=item58a9681c48:g:v9cAAMXQd75SKheK&vxp=mtr PS!! Steve, I noticed that pic of you out hunting in that other thread - OUTSTANDING = my kind of people brother!!! You should come here go "Snipe" hunting with us sometime - YOU WOULD LOVE IT!!!!

Tips before to buy :)
cowpuc replied to ceneremusic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
1st things first,, to VentureRider.org from Michigan Cen - GLAD you found us!! I can see why you have fallen in love Cen,, that is one gorgeous motorcycle my friend - WHAT A BEAUTY!! Concerning the value,, I did a quick a conversion from Euro's to US Dollars and came up with $3300 for cost - does that sound correct to you? Here in our country (the US) that would be a little on the high side - in my humble opinion.. As mentioned, that bike is a 1st Generation and is the Mark 2 model of the 1st Generations. We are currently seeing a number of the 2nd Generation Ventures (also known as the Royal Star Venture) that started production in 1999 for right in that dollar area for sale and they are newer bikes. All that said,, I KNOW from traveling a little of Europe and exporting bikes to England that you folks over there do pay more for stuff over there so,,, its entirely possible that for Italy a 3000 Euro price may be a good deal over there.. Having said that,, if I were you I would do a quick comparison in your area and see if you can get a feel for value.. One thing about it Cen, if you do end up purchasing it, you are getting one of the best - if not THE BEST - touring motorcycles known to man!! We LOVE our namesake Yamaha Ventures here!! Concerning the brakes. I would like to add to the already excellent advice, that the model you are looking at can easily accept the "upgrade" of adding Yamaha R1/R6 calipers. Those sport bike calipers add a LOT of stopping power. There are many folks on here who have done the caliper swap and are very happy with the results. I would also put the bike up on the center stand (THESE BIKES HAVE A CENTER STAND - YAMAHA THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING ON THIS MODEL!!) and spin the wheels to make sure the calipers are not sticking. The answer you received on the water is right on the money.. It is not uncommon to find a small leak below the radiator where the hoses join after sitting - warm up usually stops the leak. I have owned a number of these scoots and all of them "seep" from that area during the winter months. If you look in the area I am speaking of Cen you will notice a small black valve - rub your finger under that valve and see if thats where the fluid is coming from - if it is, not a big problem. It would not be a bad idea to check the front fork springs for sacking. Original springs are very prone to weakness and like to collapse over time. Make sure you have no air in the front forks, lift the bike off the side stand and look down thru the fairing so you can see where the fork tubes enter the bottom legs. An inch of travel left with out you sitting on the bike is not good. You should see a consistant 2 inches. All easily taken care of with new Progressive Springs, springs are about 100 US Dollars here. Start the bike up cold, let it idle, carefully touch each exhaust header with a wet finger (we call that spit checking) like you were testing a hot iron. What you are looking for is a consistent heat temp at each cylinder. Make sure that each cylinder comes up to full heat (should sizzle when you touch em). Plugged carbs or even one plugged carb is not uncommon from sitting and these bikes will run surprisingly well on 3 cylinders. Carb restoration is not undoable but it can be tricky and expensive if you have to have a shop do it.. Consider that if it is not running on all four. You will also want to operate all the electrical controls. Pay special attention to the operations of the CLASS system - that is the system that inflates the front and rear suspention. Make sure it operates correctly. Look closely at the brake rotors for ridging, a bike with low miles like yours has on it should show very little ridge formation from pad wear. These bikes are VERY capable of high mileage - just make sure the speedo has not been rolled over and it does not have 143000 km on it instead of advertised 43000 km.. At 43000km that motorcycle should have many many more REALLY fun miles left in it Cen!! Hope this all helps in some small way!! All the best in your purchase - have fun and come visit us in the U.S. sometime, as a matter of fact - if you come to Michigan I will buy you a Hot Dog at one of our Hot Dog eating events!! Puc -

Hey Barry,, I appreciate you candor here.. I certainly had no intent when seeking your advice to place your profession under the spot light - sorry about all that.. I also GREATLY appreciate your professional assistance thru this whole thing and want to say THANK YOU for your compassion in helping me!! You are appreciated Barry!! Puc

Indeed Cha,, gotta get that one done too.. Good chance that one will be able to undergo injections for some relief - my right hand was not a candidate.. Apparently there is a chemical they inject into the tendons that loosens the blockage up enough that the doctor can force the fingers back.. This is a progressive disease so either way - surgery or injections - it is my understanding it will probably return.. Gonna ask the Doc` (maybe @Barrycuda knows) if one way or the other has a longer relief time.. If surgery does I am the type who would just as soon undergo the surgery on my left hand too and get it done with.. We shall see..

Good possibility of it George, its a long ways off but I would anticipate a mid/late July departure if it happens but again - thats not written in stone cause you know how we are = may be mowing the lawn, look at poor ol Tweeks sitting there whimpering, toss a leg and hit the road - leave that lawn mower running in the front yard . Got lots of catching up to do around here BUT sure would like to.. Sacramento will definitely be on our agenda if we make the coast, kids are out there. As always we will post on here before we head out,, you should do the same so we can stay in touch and maybe cross paths on the road brother!! :lightbulb:You get into Wyoming your only a putt and a peep from Sturgis.. @bj66's Pie Butt 26.2 ride is now an annual VR event out there - come on out and become a Pie Butt Rider - YOU WOULD LOVE IT!! Hope you KNOW you are ALWAYS welcome to one of our Hot Dog events here too.. Matter of fact,, if you come here we will hold a special one in your honor!! GIVE YA TOP BILLING FOR SURE!!!!

I tried to tell you varmints that all the down time Flyinfool had over winter was not an indicator that he was gonna sit around and do nothin.. Now we find out what he has been up to = wired up some R.C. servo's to the nozzles on the White Washer and has them tied to a programmable controller that is tied to a GPS!! I have said it before and I will say it again - That Fool is NO fool!! Never ever trust a lop eared VR varmint who shows up at one of our VR MC Rally's with a SNOWMAN in the passenger seat!!!
-
