Yep,, that Millie is one sharp puppy!! I think she has that look on her precious face that says,, "Pardon me,, but is that a Doggy Treat my nose detects in your jacket pocket??" :lightbulb:was thinking I had seen that look before somewhere then it dawned on me.. Last summer in response to an announcement of one of our upcoming Hot Dog Days a couple of VR members had that same look!!

Now I dont mind a good laugh Eckster,, what the heck,, I really truly dont even mind being the one being laughed at BUT,, something deeply concerns me about what you wrote here.. When I wrote my response about going Fozzy/Eckster Hunting down there I was under the impression and hoping that Fozzy's memory was not that great.. If he remembered enough about that incident to recall it and explain it to you, he probably also remembers that poor ol Wingman was the one he took out after after I said "Fozzy Bear?".. That being said,, he probably remembers he never did actually catch Jamie and therefore may very well have not satisified his Bearly instincts to nip someone over that incident.. May have to reconsider my Hunting plans and just apply for Opening Day of Eckster Season when I apply for my Southun Varmint Hunting License - might be a LOT safer

If we do, I will make a thread on here titled "Opening Day of Fozzy/Eckster Season 2016" AND - unlike a couple of law breakers that I know - I WILL INCLUDE 's - LOTS AND LOTS OF 's with my post!!! ,,,,YE BE WARNED!!! PS; Glad you lop eared varmints got together - REALLY sounds like fun!!

Wow brother,, want you and your family to know that each of you have our deep condolences and that Tip and I will be praying for you during this very difficult time my friend. Indeed, PRAYERS UP AND BLESSINGS DOWN! Like most folks, I/we have had to deal with death within our family on several different occasions. Gotta tell you Don, I have seen the same spirit which your Mom displayed during the end of her life play out many times over - not trying to make excuses or nothing like that but that is really not that uncommon. I have watched loved ones who loved the Lord with everything they were, would never swear and never had a bad word to say about anyone turn into the most foul mouthed, hateful person one could even imagine. Dementia and Alsymer inflictions are known to create such terrible things but I have a hunch if a person suffers silently with chronic pain that can cause it too (inspite of modern day drug care).. Its a horrible thing to witness!! One of the things that has really helped me personally in working thru the grieving process in dealing with such a situation (have been thru it a few times in the last few years) is to focus on who that person really was when they were themselves. While not being that much of a religious expert or nothing like that, I have read through the Bible, studied it quite a bit and it is still my favorite book of all times because it is real life/flat out TRUTH from start to finish. There are many many opinions and ideas of the Word of God, how to apply it to life and all that. I am one who takes it literally and wholly and I accept the promises and covenants found therein at face value - crazy but I actually believe the Bible stories of the flood, David and Goliath, the parting of the Red Sea and all those "stories". I am also one who still believes that God is real and so are his promises. Cant give you exact references without looking them up brother but one set of those promises reads something like this: I am persuaded that neither life or death or angels or powers or principalities or things present or things to come or height or depth or any creature can separate us from the Love of God which we have because of Jesus Christ our Lord. For me, that passage speaks firmly and solidly of just how deep, secure and permanent God's promise of salvation is to those who have accepted his Son as God in the flesh and has takin His free gift of forgiveness and salvation and brother - I LIVE by that passage and those promises. I have found by doing so it solves a lot of questions that roll around in my pea brain when faced with situations like you are dealing with. You mentioned in your letter to us that your Aunt recalls the day when your Mom accepted the Lord and professed Him. To my understanding from reading God's Word, THAT is the beginning of the process of a person being found fully secured and vetted as one of God's own and having full access to the promise that God Himself made in the verse I quoted earlier - fact is brother, doesnt matter what happened between the day when your Mom accepted the Lord and the day she passed away - once her name was written in the Lamb's Book of Life,, its there permanently and she is part of the great cloud of witnesses that are watching over you and GLOWING a heavenly glow because she is going to get to see you standing by her in the presence of the Lord someday.. I want you to know something Don, I gladly clicked the "Thanks" icon after reading the story about your Mom's passing because I am HONORED to have gotten to be part of sharing your grief and possibly be an encouragement to you - THANK YOU again for sharing it all with us and for encouraging us to grow from your experience!! That little "Like" icon was a different story though.. I most certainly DO NOT like to hear about my dear brother being in grief and I want you to know that.. The reason I clicked on "Like" is because of the part in the story where your Aunt remembers your Mom accepting the Lord and hearing of what kind of a Mom she was.. She certainly sounds like she did her part in raising her children properly, she didnt abandon you kids like so many parents do these days, she spent her life teaching her children to be decent people and corrected them when they did wrong - SHE was a REAL Mom and THAT I "Like" brother!! I also "like" (LOVE) rejoicing with the Angels in Heaven because another one of God's children are with God Himself and have escaped the sting of death!! Love you Freebird and you have those prayers you asked for! Puc -

Getting some awesome advice here (IMHO) Gez.. Right in line with what has been mentioned thus far, here is what I think may be happening.. (IMHO) If your scoot has a fully charged battery and a fault in the charging system somewhere it will start and run fine until the battery runs down.. As the battery is discharged and goes below needed system voltage/amperage - strange things will start happening.. Anything electronic can be affected - I had a situation like your talking about and I turned on my blinker and every time the blinker would wink the bike would try to die - really weird eay.. So you come to a stop, bike is dead.. Let it set for a while and the battery will recharge itself somewhat just from sitting, enough to restart the bike and ride a little ways UNLESS the fault in the charging system has to do with battery drain from something gone to ground.. What you have described sounds to me like a non charging situation without an abnormal battery drain situation - you following me? Making any form of sense? If this does make sense and you are still able to follow me YOU are probably in a very small group of folks who are able to do so Now,, all that said,, what I think you might want to do is charge the battery in your bike, take a volt meter (I see Harbor Freight has em on coupon sale for 6 bucks this month - same type I carry in the maintenance department on my scoot) - put it on DC Volts = 20 and turn it on, touch the + lead of the meter to the + post on the battery and the - lead to the - on the battery.. Look at the read out on the meter, should show 12ish volts. Now start the bike up while watching the meter, a small increase in rpm should show 14 volts ish as you spin er up a little.. If you see no definite increase in your meter you can be assured somethings up with the charging system and I just about bet that is what you will find.. Thinking we are working on a 2nd Gen here right? Never owned one but have owned a few 1st Genners.. I know early 1st Gens are known for stator problems - from experience.. Seems to me that I have read more about bad regulators on the 2nd Gens though so that is the first place I would check if the bike were mine and the charging system checked bad as mentioned above.. Thinking there is lots of info on the site about checking/fixing reg problems if what I am talking about is correct.. Does any of this make sense? By the way,, another way to easily check your bikes charging system is to start it up and watch the headlight as you bring it up off idle - it should brighten up just a tad as you rev it - probably sounds corny but I have monitored my charge systems like that for years.. I know,, sounds kind of like old school nonsene but it does work.. I am also the type who will occasionally drift to the side of the road onto rumble strips or purposely look for cracks in the roadway and hit them to listen to my tires to see if they are probably inflated - may be a good thing to consider all that BEFORE you take my advice :big-grin-emoticon:

Dont know how I missed this one,, 4 speed Ventures are my specialty I am currently finishing off 1st Gen Mk1 number 5 (Tweeks is her name, she is a little spoiled but we love her anyway) with no 2nd gear. I have chased em all out to over 200k, 3 of the others with no second gear either. Tweeks is currently a ways over 300k miles with 260k of those miles with no second gear. 2 of the others I bought REAL cheap cause they were already second gearless and the owners didnt want to spend the big money and have them fix. I basically bought them as "parts bikes" and kept them from going for scrap, tossed in a battery and such and rode em out till they were done. Had one that lost its crank bearings at just under 250k, that one I was extra hard on, ran it all over the country with homemade straight pipes on it and I had a bad habit of taching it out just to hear it sing.. Others just got wore out and got real tired - Tweeks is almost there too - they get really "loose" all over the place when they get alot of miles on em BUT - their 4 speed trannies are solid:guitarist 2:. Its really strange cause NONE of my 1st Gens have ever had a catastrophic failure caused by running them with no second gear. I also gotta say that having 2nd gear missing has really not been that much of a problem.. I know lots of folks talk about needing to keep these V-4's revved up but I have always been amazed at how torquey they can be.. Only place I have ever really missed 2nd has been off roading in the mountains BUT, even then - it has also kept me slowed down crawling along in 1st gear which, when I think about it,, was probably not such a bad thing out there on those snake trails:missingtooth: I have had a really wonderful life of riding low dollar no 2nd Gear Ventures all over the country and would do it all over again - it has been a match made in heaven in my case. I actually am glad that it was 2nd gear failure and not a different gear that was/is the issue, I dont think any other gear would be as easy to live without. I LOVE the freedom of riding a 500 dollar bike to far off places and having that feeling of freedom that comes with knowing if it breaks and I cant fix it I can give it to some poor Indian kid as a yard ornemant - hitch hike home and buy another one (crazy thing,, never have had to do that,, close a couple times though knock on wood).. One other thing,, I do HIGHLY admire folks around here who have spent the time to actually correct the second gear ailment. I have split my share of cases thru the years in bike repair and KNOW first hand how much effort it takes - it is time consuming. Doing so has just not been what owning these old Ventures has been about for me - in my case it has been more about giving an old scoot with problems a chance to have a completely full life and having fun in the process.. Here is a short real life video of Tweeks showing off here 4 gear capabilities - notice how happy she sounds knowing that she is in the hands of two people who love her inspite of her disabilities..

That would probably be the mechanical seal JF - seal #8 above. The next seal on the impellar shaft going in toward the engine is the oil seal that keeps water out of the engine if the mechanical fails. That weep hole is there to let you know the mechanical seal has failed.. Making GREAT progress ,, looks like you are having all kinds of fun:thumbsup:,,, you missing the snow yet:big-grin-emoticon: -
Look what followed me home yesterday.

wish i had a go pro or some kind of vidio cam for the helmet
cowpuc replied to oldgoat's topic in Watering Hole
Go Pro may not be the answer Goat.. Squirrels around here are extremely intelligent - like they have been taking lessons from the neighborhood Crow family or something.. Ever notice how Crows KNOW the difference between a Broom handle and a Shotgun? Seriously,,,, if you walk outside to knock a Crow out of tree and they see a shot gun in your hand they are GONE right now!! If your carrying a broom stick in your hand they will sit in the tree and laugh at ya.. Around here our Squirrels have developed the same kind of intelligence about camera's,,, cruise along with no camera and those little suckers will pull all kinds of crazy tricks - run between your wheels, stand in the middle of road on their scrawny little hind legs just daring you to take a swipe at em - gotta admit, most are not as brazen as you describe Goat but still - we got some crazy squirrels around here.. Thing is, as soon as you try to video em ya never see em... Thinking maybe what ya REALLY need is 50 caliber machine gun mounted on your scoot......
