  1. ,,, this sounds like fun Bossman!! Off the top of me head,,, lets see,,,,, my very first adventure onto a Motocross track was back in 69 and it was on board a 1968 Yamaha DT1 - good ol 250 Enduro that I had tramatized to the point that it thought it was a true MX bike - took a hard earned 2nd place on that ugly White DT and was hooked on MX.. I stayed "Yam" for my racing needs by converting a couple more DT's before I bought a brand new Honda CR250M Elsinore in 1973 from the dealership that I worked at. Had a 68 350 Grand Prix, a couple RD350's and an RD250 (still in basement). Bought a brand new Yamaha TY250 trials bike in 1974, was a little hard on it - broke the frame jumping it, traded it even up for a pretty little green 1973 DT250. Had a Blue 73 Yamaha TX650 that I rode out west a number of times back in the mid 70's - chopped that one out with an aftermarket Amen frame and Springer forks. Bought a brand new red Yam 650 Special in 1978 - won a brand new left over Harley Low Rider on a job site the following year and sold the Special to a friend. Picked up a 81 XS1100 the year after we got married.. Tip started popping out kids and then things really got out of hand cause I had to start thinking touring sized bikes PLUS, dirt bikes, minibikes, quads and all that stuff so they (the kids) could ride with me on the big bike plus have bikes of their own - tough job being a good Dad and keeping up with 4 kids.. Had several Mini-Enduro's, a 1970 Maverick (Yamaha) Mini Trail, a PW50, a YZ50, 3 - Big Wheel 80's, a TY80 mini-trials bike, a 125 Enduro, a Big Wheel 350 (fun bike), a couple Banshee's (liquid cooled RD350 motors), a pair of TTR225's, 2 - yellow Chappy's, a pair of Zuma mopeds (ever ride one? like a moped with a YZ motor - braaap), 2 XT350's, a couple YZ80's, an 87 YZ250, an XT600 and an 88 350 Warrior (quad) that my youngest daugher nicknamed "Herc" short for Hercules.. That era was also the beginning of my adventures with the Ventures.. Picked up a Blonde MK1 Royale in 87 out of an estate sale with a bad stator. Kids named it Big Girl, shortened to B.G. - shortended to "Beeg".. Kids and I rode Beeg out to terminal end and 3 other MK1's the same during the years before I picked up Tweeks a few years ago.. You can still see the original side covers off "Beeg" on Tweeks sides if ya look close enough (gotta look around the stickers). Those side covers (NOT TWEEKS) have over 1 million miles of our riding on them!! Oh,, almost forgot Crud - my V-Max.. He is my second V-Max,,, cant forget Crud,,, almost forgot Crud!!! Whoaa,,,, was looking for pics and ran across this video of my Daughter riding one of my Zuma's while she was home from college years ago... Probably pretty boring for all you fast paced lop eared varmints BUT - skip to 2:45 in the vid and watch what happens at about 2:50ish....
  2. Possibly, quite possibly, cause I have been looking at 2nd Gens and............. :stirthepot::witch_brew::stickpoke:
  3. "ROAD HAZZARD",,,,, something caught my eye about those two words ROAD HAZZARD:scratchchin: :lightbulb:Sky,, you may have just inadvertently named my next scoot for me,,,,, think I may just name her "Hazzy" ...
  4. Oh,, just noticed your youngestes awesome in that picture!!! PLEASE tell her Puc and Tip bid a healthy right back that offspring of yours!! Nothing better on this planet than seeing a Dad and his kidlet out enjoying the open road like the two of you are doing brother - wayyyy cool and CONGRATS!!
  5. STICKER,, DID SOMEONE SAY SOMETHING ABOUT A STICKER? DID SOMEONE SAY SOMETHING ABOUT A STICKER ON A MOTORCYCLE? :clap2::clap2::dancefool::dancefool: BEAUUUTEEEEFUL PIC AND STORY AZ - JUST GORGEOUS MY FRIEND!! YA DONE MADE MY DAY!! THANK YOU PUC
  6. Well,, my take is,,, that it wouldnt work IMHO, The U.S. is kind of a different place with a different kinda people whom, at least some of them in some area's,, roll to a little different drum beat than most of the rest of the world.. There a still a number of States and lots of people in those States who are kinda touchy about their freedoms and get a little edgy when things happen that infringe on those freedoms, which (and this may sound strange to a number of folks who live outside of the States) find the general idea and concept of a Curfew as an infringement of those freedoms.. A good example, I noticed that South Dakota is on the list of States where this curfew idea is going to be implemented.. I happened to have spent a fair amount of time touring, attending rallies, cow towning, sleeping on the prairie and meeting people from that awesome area. The people of SD have opened their very hearts up with a spirit of:bighug:every year to tens of thousands of motorcyclist when they host the HD Sturgis Rally - it is a sight to behold!! I know how hard we in Michigan fought to get our freedom of choice in whether or not we wanted to do a simple thing like wear a helmet back after we lost that choice (to some Americans, the right to choose what is good or bad for us as individuals is a big part of being free) years ago.. I have a hunch that there is probably a similar minded group of folks in South Dakota who realize that once something like a curfew is implemented it might be an uphill battle to get it reversed and one can only imagine the impact of not being able to ride a motorcycle at night would have on something like the Sturgis Rally that those very people have fought so hard to maintain.. Another line of thought for Americans about all this may linger along the line of thought of an old school concept found in one of America's beginning foundations of "Of The People, By The People, For The People".. And they may think something along of: "If "we the people" do this to the biker community, who is to say that "we the people" wont do this to car drivers, truck drivers, bicycle riders or even pedestrians...
  7. That Zag,, he be speakin my thoughts to a tee!! After reading time after time on here about people getting 8, 10, 15 even 20k out of a rear tire on their scoot I had long ago come to the conclusion that I had picked up a tire eating Gremlin somewhere in life.. I have tried pretty much all brands and configurations of tires thru the years and have yet to have one reach even 8k - that includes some fairly pricey name branders.. An example is the super high mileage (and rather expensive) Michelin that is on the back of Tweeks right now.. Came about it honestly, traveling and noticed the rear tire was getting down there - stopped at a bike shop, guy had Dunny 404's for 130 bucks, also had the Michelin on sale for 170.. Told him of my experience with 404's = 4kish per tire. He sold me on the design of the Michelin being one of of super high mileage - figured what da heck what da hay - worth a shot. After purchasing it and getting ready to head to the parking lot to put it on, the guy mentioned being careful in the twisties with the Michelin cause it was "harder rubber" that added the mileage and it may not be as good in the corners as the softer rubber 404's would be.. 6k later and the Michelin is done.. The above is just a current example.. Going all the way back into the 70's, riding my HD Shovel Low Rider from Michigan to the West Coast. Brand new Good Year Eagles on the scoot just before I pulled out.. While strapping my tent back onto the sissy bar in a place called Big Bear California I noticed my rear tire was down to wear bars. Got to Ventura California and had a rear blow out - rode the flat out to a stop - looked down and found I had rode it till the cords was showing and it went poof.. That incident started me on a "one rear tire to the coast and one rear tire to get me back to Michigan" lifetime routine and may very well be where/when I picked up that nasty tire eating Gremlin.. The End
  8. EXACTLY!!!!:clap2::dancefool::big-grin-emoticon: As my dear friend @StarFan Jonas from Iceland would say: WE DA MAN!!!! :scared:,,,,,,,, THAT'S IT JOE!!,,, gotta tell you brother,,, if you EVER get up that way you gotta check that joint out - that place was AWESOME way back then - I can only imagine what it is now!! ,, probably best to see if we got any VR members who live up that way that could verify that before ya set sail from the suthen states and chase the front wheel in that derection.. what am saying ya lop eared varmint,,, our house is right on the way up there,,, you folks could make a double dip of the trip and stop here first - I KNOW we have the BEST Hot Dogs anywhere in the country that I would LOVE to introduce you to!!:guitarist 2::beer: Or,, if your gonna play that "I'm skeerd and shy" card on us Roller,,, you could PM me your story and I would gladly copy/paste it in the Watering Hole for you brother!!! I aint skeerd of these varmints,,, I may be a little shy but I sure aint skeerd..
  9. This thread brings about some pretty fond memories of a debate I had with a buddy of mine after a long day of riding.. We were sitting by a camp fire in the U. P. of Michigan, swatting skeeters and trying to burn a couple Hot Dogs before we climbed into our tents. My buddy mentioned to me that I had a tendency of riding a little above the speed limit and asked if I was concerned about getting a ticket for doing so.. I told him that most Cops wouldn't write for up to 5 MPH over the speed limit if you were driving a car and that they double that buffer zone for us motorcycles - allowing us bikers to safely travel 10 MPH over.. He basically called me out on that one.. We sat there arguing the point when I had a epiphany.. I told him that I KNEW I could get caught on Radar by a Police Officer going at least 10 MPH over the speed limit and I would not get a ticket, he disagreed (like I knew he would) and we made a bet - I would purposely speed the next time we saw a Cop running Radar - if I got a ticket, I bought dinner at a place of his choice - if I didnt, he bought dinner at a place of my choice.. I could see "STEAK" written all over my buddies face as he grinned and crawled into his little nylon tent that night.. Next day, while headed toward Pictured Rocks on Lake Superior, we both noticed a Michigan State Police running radar on the road we were traveling.. My buddy gave me the strangest look when I pulled into the parking lot where the Trooper was sitting.. I pulled up next to the officers squad car and said - "I just put new tires on this thing and wondered if you check me with your Radar so I can see how close my Speedo is".. Nice guy,,, he says sure why not.. It was a pretty dead area with not much traffic,, my buddy sat there in the parking with his mouth hanging open when I went flying by doing a good 15 MPH over the speed limit.. Went back to the Troopers car, he shook his head and said yea - that thing is way out of wack,, I had you at 16 over - you really need to have that thing looked at.. I told the officer thank you, got on my bike and headed for a place called "The Dog Patch" in Munising Michigan (was a LONG time ago - no idea if its still there - was a REALLY cool place though) that I had heard about earlier in the trip... Good thread,, THANKS for the great memories you guys!!
  10. You know what you guys,,, it is entirely possible that folks all over the planet have heard of VR and it's dynamite group of lop eared varmints who help each other out with their problems, have great get together's and LOVE to ride all kinds of different motorcycles while touring the country.. The word may have gotten out that our VentureRider.org Motorcycle Club is the best bike club known to man with members who love to tease each other and laugh together but when the going gets rough, we are always there for each other.. It is entirely possible that, with Spring just coming on, a large Global group of people heard the news and happen to pick last night to stop by and check us out. I sure hope that is the case because there were a LOT of Hot Dogs left over after the last "Puc's Meet - Greet and Eat Meat" outing of 2016 and the prospect of having more lop eared varmints show up and ending up with a zero left over Hot Dog season REALLY makes me My cups half full... Puc
  11. Is "Star Days" anything like the "Wing Fling" thing I have heard about down south? Never went to the Wing Fling but heard that the "factory" put it on, provided bikes to test drive and all that.. Had a buddy that did it a couple times and had a BALL!!
  12. AWESOME ECKSTER!!! Thank you for the update!! that the rocking and bouncing routine does the job for our friend Sam!! While we are waiting for some kind of news from our California buddy, I wonder if you could do me some learnin with a brief explanation of how the Wing reverse system works.. In talking with Sam, we kind of concluded with the system working of an electric motor that is basically like a car starter.. Do you know if the bike uses the same "starter" to start the bike as it does to move it in reverse? When I first talked to Sam I thought we were talking about a Trike Conversion that came with a reverse electric motor installed on the trike kit rear end.. Being that the reverse is stock Honda, wouldnt there be electrical interlocks in place to keep the reversing action from even being possible if the bike were in gear? Have you heard of what happened to Sam happening to others - seems like bumping the reverse button while in gear would not be that hard of a mistake to make? Is there some kind of an aftermarket update kit that a person can install to keep this from happening?
  13. Wonder if ya rolled over in your sleep, pressed and held the "Enter" button on your puter with your elbow while your login was highlighted... Just thinking of thousands of YammerDan's running around the site causing trouble makes me ,,, might make the Boss but it makes me
  14. Sooooo,, how fast were ya going and how much was the ticket One of these days my smart alec is gonna get me into big trouble
  15. Running in high temps,, could be boiling your clutch fluid JF,, teeny tiny little air bubbles.. Experienced a little of that riding western US temps above 110 degrees.. Maybe try bleeding in some fresh fluid - pretty easy when riding an old scoot that you are just gonna ditch anyway.. You know how to bleed that system? Also, any chance you may have ran the master low enough that it now has a little air in it? A tiny bit of air will cause a lot of grief.. If the master has been low level full and that little rubber boot inside the master was not reset properly so its being pulled down inside the master to keep fluid from sloshing around around its possible for air to get into the system when your banging the bike around off roading it.. You could pull the res cover and gently work the lever in and out - using about and 1/8th of the stroke of the lever - while you watch for tiny air bubbles.. It dont take much air JF - ANY tiny little bubble you get out will make a huge difference.. Sorry to hear about the food poisoning ailment brother!! They got Pepto Bismal down there? Might give it a try.. Hope you get your strength back and the rest of your trip is worthy!! Also,, THANK YOU for the awesome pics and great write up - been a BLAST following your journey!! Puc
  16. Your more than welcome Kat.. Thinking more about this and wondering if you may be actually feeling a tire issue.. Maybe put the scoot up in the air and spin the tires and watch em closely as you do.. If this started at a tire change - may check the "bead line" on your recent tire install and make sure the bead is set in properly. Also double check your front tire for wear too.. Jack mentioned to check you front wheel bearings, good suggestion IMHO. Also, just for kicks - if its a "wobble" you might wanna check your swing arm bushings for wear and also maybe your triple tree bearings for looseness.. FYI,, I bought a brand new tire once that had a similar "feel" to it after install.. Sort of wallowing feel just before I stopped - sorta spooky really.. Come to find out it was all about a flaw in the casing of the new tire... It happens...
  17. Awe,,,,, THAT is soooooo cool Nanci!! Would LOVE to see Sam post a quick message up here and would LOVE to someday shake that musically talented pedal steel playing hand of his someday!! Sam,, if you are reading this, I want you to know it was a pleasure meeting you and I sure hope our best of the best VR member @Eck and you can figure out that gorgeous Wing of yours! Also,, my wife (Tippy) and I LOVE the Weed California area! We have made numerous trips out to the west coast on our beat up old Yamaha Venture named "Tweeks" and Weed is one of our favorite places to visit. We met your good friend Nanci on one of our trips out there at one of our VR Motorcycle Club Rallies at The Dalles in Oregon and can both certainly see why you folks and Nanci are such good friends - that @Luvdaleather (thats what we all know Nanci by) is one very talented lady and also the best of the best of our members here (you probably already figured it out, all of our members are best of the best in my opinion).. Sam, after you get that scoot fired back up and you and your wife start riding it again, you should think about coming out to a Venture Rider Rally or Meet n Greet sometime.. You two would have a BALL and I know these folks would be GLAD to meet you, I KNOW I sure would!! Your ol buddy from Michigan who kept buggin ya with strange phone calls... Puc
  18. Close but not all of em,,, Bill Mack and I sure packed our fair share away too brother :banana::checkeredflag: Just think, couple months and we will be right back at our Hot Dog chompin ways - CAN'T WAIT!!

Those Gyro's were one strange little creature,, Honda quality but definitely strange in design.. Oddly enough, they were pretty fun little riders - just make sure you relocked the frame lever when you got off or over she'd flop Another model that I did several of thru the years was the Honda MB5.. Little 50cc scoot that was pretty popular on the Gran Prix tracks cause with a little massaging they would really scoot.. I had one that I redid the motor on that, after freshening up I could break 70 mph on with me on it and it was stock!! One I never did get my fingers on and always wanted to play with was the Yamaha 50cc Crotch Rocket,, thinking it was called a YSR50 or something like that.. VERY well built mini crotch rocket that China (like a lot of the cool Jap scoots) copy catted.. The Yamaha was a high end piece of work and just gorgeous!! ,,,, another one of Ecks threads,,, thankfully I can blame the Bossman for this one
  20. Totally 100% AWESOME Dixie - JUST BEAUTIFUL!!! :clap2::dancefool::thumbsup: Makes Tip and I wanna toss a leg over Tweeks and hit that PS - give that PRECIOUS little Daughter? Grand Daughter? of yours a GREAT BIG HUG for Tip and I will ya = that princess sure looks like she loves her Grampa!!:big-grin-emoticon:.. What a sweetheart,,,, tell her ol Pucster up in Michigan said to turn around and look at you with that same look on her face and say "Grampa,, did that guy with the funny name just say you were gonna take me out for ??"

Yessiree Bossman,, had a couple of em.. If memory serves me correctly, kind of a different step for Honda cause they were 2 strokers - GOOD BIKES THOUGH!! The only thing I didnt care for about em was that none of them came with lites and you therefore couldnt just hang a plate on em and buzz around on the roads.. FUN trail bikes though.. I bought both of mine with probably the same issue you got yours with - dirty carbs from sitting? The kids had a BALL on em, they pulled pretty dog gone good for a 90 and the wider tires made em pretty stable in the sandy soil on the two tracks behind our old house.. They were electric start (with kicker backup) and it would have been fairly easy stick aftermarket lights on em and make em "street legal" (Michigan titling laws were really lax back then) but they didnt hang around long, like you - I found them to be GREAT SELLERS:thumbsup:!! By the way,, $70 ,, NOT BAD AT ALL YA LOP EARED BANDIT VARMINT!!! I got a lot of my vintage stuff at auction and both of my Cubs came thru dealer auction sales.. Thinking mine were closer to adding another zero onto what you got yours for:missingtooth: but still turned a handsome Also did a few Honda "Gyro's" a number of years ago.. You ever had one of those Boss? They were REALLY strange.. Had dual rear wheels and had an articulating frame.. Had a little lever on them that you could "unlock" the frame so it would pivot in the middle.. I did buy one of the Gyro's once for about the price you got your Cub for because the owner had picked it up from a guy who bought out one of those storage bins and the frame was unlocked - it wouldnt stand up and he thought it was busted .. Honda sure came up with some cool stuff!!
  22. Yep,,, I was ambi-sackual before being ambi-sackual was cool eh.. I gotta admit though, I come about my ambi-sackualism honestly because I always just grab what ever is handy on my way out the door so I dont Tweet in the store eh..
  23. VR Hillbilly!!
  24. Pie??? Puc loves pie... Puc wants pie.. Puc NEEDS pie... Puc dont worry about the rippling filter when it comes to pie,, thats what makes Puc a "Pie Butt Rider" - right @bj66?

You know your scoots Larry!! She was a Honda CT70 - also known as the famous "Honda Trail 70"... Sold that one to guy from Maine, drove all the way to Michigan to pick it up.. Did a bunch of em back in the restore days.. Also did a good business with the original hard tail Honda Z50 ("Honda Mini Trail") = LOTS OF FUN!! Still have one of the Trail 70's in my basement. It is the rarer bird, an original CT70-H model that has the 4 speed with manual clutch..
