Reread your explaination of issues again Chock (I am really really thick skulled so sometimes it takes me FOREVER to comprehend - sorry bout that)... Another possibilty if its a "Fat" stumble is a float height adjustment or leaky float valve with a result of flooding a carb.. Did you guys check your float heights when you had it apart? Do you by any chance notice small dribbles of fuel on the overflow lines? If you look under the bike just in front of the swing arm you should notice the four over flow tubes hanging together. You might just check the ends of those four lines for dampness.. You could also centerstand the bike, turn the key on and off until the fuel pump stops pumping so the bowls are full - check the lines again, drain the bowls one at a time into baby food jars and see if you have one that shows over fueled. -

Is it a to much fuel stumble when you wick on it (twist the throttle quickly) or is it a starvation stumble/bog? How is your air filter and are you trying to get it to run right without the air filter or airbox cover off - gotta have filter and cover on when tuning.. It is not uncommon for these old scoots to oblong the orvice that the metering rods ride in - this can result in a fattening up of the idle/mid range circuity and cause stumbling like you mention. You might take a couple minutes to read thru this: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?86325-Carb-metering-rod-question&highlight=tweeks+metering If your machine is not Canadian it will not have the normal "E" clips and multiple slots for adjustments on the meter rods. You will need to shim the rods with nylon washers. My bike, Tweeks, had a similar problem and I found by dropping the meter rods .065 worked perfect. Canadian 1st Gens have normal E clip adjustment for doing the same thing.. Does any of this make sense to you? If you problem is a lean condition you could also try raising the rods and see what happens. Another issue that I have experienced in dealing with what your talking about has to do with high resistance in the plug caps.. Maybe try unscrewing the caps from the wire, trim the wire back a 1/2 inch and rescrew the caps back on.. Also. depending on the caps - they may have resistors in them you can clean up.. Of course, the best thing to do is replace the caps - nothing like new if you have an issue there. You fellers got a set of gauges or a way to check carb sync? I would double check the diaphrams for pin holes, check the area where the diaphram attaches to the slides real well, triple check the slides for ease of movement in the throats, make sure the cover orings are in correct place and in good shape so its not sucking air and then drop a carb sync on it.. You might be surprised how far out it is after a dismantle of the carbs like you did.. edit - what a dork wad am I,,,,, I just reread your original post and noticed you had that covered already:doh: my bad:detective: -

Freebird's Maintenance Day - Do we want to do it?
cowpuc replied to Freebird's topic in Watering Hole
we really are brothers I once had 66 Plymouth I bought for 25 bucks (scrap price back then) because the tops of the front fenders were rusted right out - you literally could watch the tires spin thru the tops of the fenders while going down the road.. Now,, not that I minded the look so much but muddy Spring roads in Michigan combined with open top fenders on a 66 Barracuda means your gonna be going thru 6 sets of wiper blades a week and there was no way I could afford that.. Ripped some insulation out of an old shed, mixed up a batch of resin, coated up the fenders with a home brew fiberglass patch and painted the finish product with a sponge and some brown (rest of the car was Yellow) latex interior house paint.... Stopped the mud water and looked pretty dog gone snazzy too!! -

1st gen vs 2nd gen clutches
cowpuc replied to gaj1917's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
All my Ventures have been the MK1's and I have never had one with a good clutch.. By that I mean one that held solid engagement when the scoot was fully packed, Tip and I both on the bike and then nailing it at 4 grand in 4th or 5th gear.. On the same token though, I also have never really gone after better springs ( @Skydoc specials), removal of the half plate or tried different aftermarket plate either.. I do know this,, my 89 V-Max hits pretty dog gone hard speed shifting from 4th to 5th when he's up on the ol V-Boost and his clutch always seemed solid.. That said, I am pretty sure that Crude (89 V-Max) has the diaphram spring instead of the 6 little coils and, if I were going thru all the effort of replacing 2nd gear in Tweeks I would definitely consider doing the change over.. It would be really fun to have 2nd gear and a good solid clutch to boot!!! -

You forgot to read the Official April Fool's Day rule book.. Page 31, paragraph 2: Any one who has been declared and certified as a fool OR has the term "fool" in their proper name shall not be eligible for April Fool's day coverage.. These special individuals shall, instead of participating in activities normally associated with April Fool's day, supply the world around them with only items that are true. These individuals will be required to do this for the 24 hours period during the day of April 1st each year and they shall be allowed to return to their normal antics of foolism after said 24 hour period..

Got to meet member VideoArizona today - Great Visit!
cowpuc replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
HEYYY ,,,, I want to be out there in that sunshine!! I kinda thought my tender little ears were ringing and were the other day,, just knew I was in some kind of trouble!! BEAUTIFUL PICS AND AWESOME TRAIL TALE THERE RIV!!! :clap2::dancefool: I absolutely LOVE when times like those happen my friend - it's what life is all about!! Congrats to you 3 for taking a second and getting together - way cool!! I think I got the names for each picture figured out, "I'm the bald guy" VanRiver on the left, pretty Pat in the middle and that sunshine loving VideoAZ on the right - a more likely bunch of good hearted VR lop eared varmints there has never been.. The question I have is who's MK2 is in the 1st pic? I learned my colors back in kindergarten and, if memory serves me correctly - that aint Blue:hurts:.. Is that AZZI or did you guys just happen to find a Venture parked in a parking lot somewhere and stop to have your pictures taken by it:hihi:? ,, kind of a novel idea - just drive around looking for cool bikes to take pictures of your friends next to .. Glad that varmint Dave was able to give you some fine tuning info on AZZI Riv - got my that by you two having the chance to bump your heads together AZZI comes out a fine running scoot!! A name for David's gorgeous Blue 1st Gen,,, ,,, hmmmmm,,,,, in the Lakota language "Blue Friend" is spelled To Cola - Tocola nick named to "Cole" would be awesome.. Everyone needs a true Blue friend like a Blue 1st Gen named Cole.. -
Back in the early days I used to love to go to the local American Legion turkey shoots - I also LOVED shooting dynamite there too. I had a Bull Barreled Remington 700 .22 - .250 back then that loved range work and it did a fine job. There was a large group of WW2 Vets who I got to know there, I could sit around after a day at the range and listen to those guys talk war story's for ever - really really interesting group of take no crap from nobody but give ya the shirt off their backs kind of folks - my hero's .. I started going regularly to gun shows with a couple of those guys - one named Bob (who's daughter I almost married) and I used to do a LOT of Gun Shows here in Michigan,, always dragging some kind of iron home.. Always carried a few purchase permits with me so I could tote home hand guns at will too - it's amazing how much simpler things in the "gun" world were back then. When the Chinese 7.62 x 39 SKS's were selling brand new at the show's for 80 bucks a pop and crates of that junk ammo could be snatched up for 65 bucks a crate I grabbed a couple of of them and a few cases of junk ammo just to go out and shoot cans, pine cones and make noise - about all the stuff was good for.. Later, after things started changing for the worse in our Nation's right to keep and bear arms and those junk SK's started getting scarce it seemed like everybody and their brother was looking for em.. I took my now wore out SK's with their pretty little 20 round mags I had replaced the 5 round mags they had came with and went to gun show - toted em around the gun show with a For Sale sign on stick that was stuck down the barrel.. Hadn't gone very far and a guy stopped me - pealed off my asking price in cash.. By that time Tippy had long since proven her love for Hunting and Shooting. She was never shy about deboning venison quarter panels while helping me process deer. Her and the kids all loved to shoot and hunt too.. While I was meandering thru the gun show after selling the SK's it dawned on me that I hadnt done nothing nice for Tip in a couple days.. While walking past a vendor table I noticed this little Coach gun staring at me.. I bent down, picked it up and started petting it across its twin chambers.. Kind of a cute little snake eyed critter.. While standing there listening to the little coach gun begging me to take it home with me and getting over it's shear rugged beauty I finally returned to thinking logically.. Tip was well trained with our hand guns and I always feared for any person who broke into our home because of it.. Not that I have ever had much use for bad guys but, quite frankly, that Lady of mine always had this nack for just pointing, shooting and hitting what she was looking at and I really never wanted to see someone, even a crook, get killed.. While I stood there glancing the light of the gun show auditorium against my thumbnail and glancing down the barrels to check for corrosion it occurred to me how ominous,, down right intimidating, looking down those twin 12 gauge barrels really was.. The thought then occurred to me that I could take 75 bucks of the 400 dollars the guy had given to me for the SK's, buy ol Snake Eyes, give Snake Eyes to Tippy as a gift to let her know how much I love her and maybe save some crooks life and send em scattering just by looking down the shipping end of ol snake eyes,, possibly even scare em enough that they would have second thoughts about sneaking into someones house ever again - win, win, win and win! Logic won out and here is proof!!
