I am soooo right there with you Sky, buying the right bike is a like buying a really good fitting pair of Boots.. IMHO, you cant just read about how good they feel on someone elses feet and order a pair. You never know until you try em on and take a few steps.. I have never had the chance to ride one of the newer Wings but have bought/sold a few of the older ones and I could just never stretch out on them because of the engine design. Also did a few of the early Kawasaki Voyager 2's.. I really liked those bikes but they were also to low slung and left me crunched up in the saddle and could not stretch out on them either.. I do gotta say though, those Voyagers (talking about the inline 1200cc) looked great and got AWESOME MPG's.. Picked up our first 1st Gen MK1 back in 87,,, fit like that perfect pair of boots, ran like a scalded dog and toted my kids and I all over the country with very little problems.. Now after wearing out 5 of them (considering Tweeks as worn out) it seems like my backside is permanently molded in the shape of the MK1 saddle.. Problem with me is once I get onto to something like that there's no looking back and these MK1's are not getting any younger.. I often wish Mom Yam would just put the 83 Venture back into production (with the updated stator, water pump and hardened tranny shim of course - I am fine with carbs). I know a lot of modern day bikers that would look at Mom Yam and laugh at them if they did BUT I would not be one of them.. I still think those original Ventures were the greatest touring scoot ever built

Cam Chain Guides and Tensioners
cowpuc replied to almariders's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Gotta agree with Bill, got over 300k on our current 1st Gen and the top ends never been apart. Had 4 others that we ran out to almost those same miles and never had them apart either.. Thinking the 2nd Gens like you are questioning Alma have probably got similar (or the same) cam chain guides and tensioners as the 1st.. You know,, now that I think about it,, unlike the twin cam Harleys and a lot of the older chain driven cam metrics that were known for wearing out guides (remembering the Honda 350's here) I cant honestly say I have ever even heard of any one dealing with it on our V-4's.. -

cowpuc replied to slaghead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Brother that sounds like a speedo!! These 1st Gens are KNOWN for chirping speedos (and SQUEELING if they get real dry - especially when cold).. Net time it happens watch the needle and see if you pickup and strange movements as its happening.. -

Don't want to have to split cam chain....but How do I get this out?
cowpuc replied to Trader's topic in General Tech Talk
Just make sure you store your Dynamite far away for the torch will ya Fool? I finally got all the White Wash cleaned up you managed to scatter all over my yard over here on the other side of the pond and really dont need to now spend the summer cleaning up demolition debris from more of your experimental projects blown easterly:stickpoke::crackup::crackup: -
intermittant chirping noise
cowpuc replied to slaghead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Slag,, if you fast forward thru the nonsense in this video to about 40 seconds and listen carefully you can hear the typical whining of our 83. What your hearing there is normal clutch whine that the 1st Gens are known for. There is also a very distinct water pump "chirp" that I have always experienced in my 1st Gens but usually that is most noticeable at an idle... Both very pleasant sounds to an ol Venture rider like myself... -

I have test ridden (basically spent some days playing on em) those cool scoots at our local Harley demo/free Pizza days a number of times and have always been impressed by em. They are sort of a mini-VRod. GOOD performers HP wise and FUN riders!! Really spunky for a 750.. IMHO though, I have a hunch that HD is experiencing the same thing with them that they experienced with the V-Rod and the Harley Buell, that is low sales due to Harley buyers not really seeing that neat little bike as a real Harley BUT - that is just my opinion based on my very limited exposure to the Harley world. Our local HD dealership has finally worn out the little Buells they used on their rider training courses and are now using the smaller version of the 750 (I think they are 500's) exclusively.. Basically, besides during demo days when all the big inch Harleys are being ridden so us regulars gotta ride the 750's if we wanna go play, I have never actually seen a 750 or a 500 on the street.. On the same token though,, I think the design is a very formidable one.. Lots of motorcycle there for the money!! I know if I had one I would ride the wheels off it!! Concerning the Yamaha Bolt,, sort of the same thing.. It is interesting,, the Bolt started out at around 7 grand for a new one when they were first released. I now have seen em as low as 5 grand for a new left over. Seems to be a tough market for sure.. Shame too cause, IMHO,, that Bolt is also a really neat - well made scoot.. Ya know Wiz ,,, reading all the jibberish I just wrote:scratchchin:,,,, lots of meaningless opinion right there - eh:big-grin-emoticon:... Love me inspite of ways will ya brother?

Hey Cowpuc. Want a new hobby ride'n dirt bikes?!
cowpuc replied to The Tooch's topic in Watering Hole
WOW ZZZZZZZZZZ WOW WOW WOW :178::178:,,,, that does actually appeal HUGELY to my inner soul Tooch!!! After spending a lifetime racing MX, Harescrambling, riding Enduro's (an Enduro race is not really a race by folks who compete because its riding against a clock - not other riders,, kind of hard to explain but thats the way it is) and single tracking across America on a dirtbike I had to give it all up because of health problems. 5 back surgeries after a car accident in 2003 and I had to hang up my MX boots and accept street riding for more motorcycling fix. Now you come along with this option my friend!! An option where,, if I did fall I would be falling in water where, if I didnt drowned, I would probably still be able to walk again!! Oh heck yea,,, LOOKS LIKE A RIOT!! Indeed Dave,, THAT sure looks like fun!! Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap,,, braaaaaaaaaaap!!! -
Very very well put MiRider:clap2:... I did notice something missing though so, and I hope you dont mind, I took liberty to make a small correction..

Cruise control doesn't set above 85 mph?
cowpuc replied to Lug Nut's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I dont believe in slowing the traffic down when I go around Chicago either Lug = I know officer,, I know,,,,,, but I just cant stand back biters and I have found if I keep this beat up ol Yamaha's tach at 5500 it cuts way down on the potential for those back biting texters to be able to do their thing -
WOW thats AMAZING Or = CONGRATS on the new knee and CONGRATS that everything went so well my friend!! IMHO,, it is ALWAYS a pleasure reading success stories like the one you wrote!!! All the best as you continue your therapy!!
