  2. I am soooo hearing that brother! Went from working in the Blue Berries as a kid here in Michigan to a genuine job pumping gas at Sunoco Gas Station.. It was the mid/late 60's and muscle cars were everywhere.. I loved cranking the dial over to "260" to fill those big block Mopars, Chevy's and Fords sitting there idling lumpely with my nose sucking up the succulent odors of unburned high octane fuel being wasted because of valve overlap in those cammed up beauties.. What an amazing era to be a young gearheaded kid filling my pockets from a good paying job (1.60 an hour) and full of dreams of a new motorcycle and maybe even buying a girl a little something special:scratchchin:,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, bike needs takin care of first of course:178: .
  3. Sure sounds like a stuck solenoid. The only thing having the kill switch engaged and/or key switch off will do when this happens is keep the engine from actually starting with the starter still engaged.. Was the starter still rolling when it fired up and you had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop or were you touching the start button to make the starter engage? I have no idea where the solenoid is located on an RSTD but if you follow the cable coming off your starter it should terminate at the solenoid. Then there should be another cable coming off the solenoid that leads directly to the battery. The solenoid has a set of contacts inside it that are pulled together when voltage is supplied to its coils - that energizes the coil which closes the contacts when the start button is pushed.. If you disconnect the small wire leading to the solenoid and leave the two cables (one to the starter and one to the battery) connected with out the small wire(s) connected and you touch the lead onto the battery and it still does it you will know it is the solenoid is stuck..

  5. Prayers Up for you and your family Zzzz.. So sorry to hear this news and to hear about the loss of any pets but VERY VERY thankful that you folks are ok. My heart, thoughts and prayers reach out to each of you as you work thru all this!!!
  6. Agree with VideoAZ! High speed miss: Another thing to try is, remove the side covers, drape a towel over the headlight , start the bike in total darkness and look carefully at the plug wires you should see no leakage.. Check plug caps for high ohms. Make sure you gap your new plugs - .032. Also check carb slides for non-sticky smooth movement, diaphrams for pin holes and sync the carbs. Also check your battery and charging system which it sounds like you did. I would also drain fuel from the carb bowls into a clean glass jar and check for water in fuel - can also compare amount of fuel in each bowl by doing so (four baby food jars work perfect for this), if you have a float set to low you will find it this way. If you find debris in your fuel you can go to an ag store and pick up a 50cc syringe - fill the syringe with carb cleaner and fill the carb until thru the drain hose until the carb cleaner comes out the mainjet (its the hole where the metering rod on the slide goes in). Now pump the syringe to agitate the carb cleaner in the carb bowl. Suck it back out and close the drain. To check the tank for debris/moisture you can remove the seat and remove the fuel gauge sending unit and clearly see in the tank with a pen light.

  8. OUTSTANDING DAVE AND SUE!!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH OF YOU - THAT IS FANTASTIC!!! :ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886 !!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Wassup you Pie Butt 26.2 rider you - good to hear from ya brother.. Sorry to hear about your home computer but glad you have been able to at least maintain your Facebook VR activity. Been having a good time around here, Freebird did sell his pretty Harley Roadglide so I cant tease anymore but other than that - the place maintains in normal opportunities to harass and be harassed - so normalcy reigns Phoneman, here's a video that might interest you,,, hard catching you when your not working brother but GOT CHA anyway!!
  10. Oh yea,, CONGRATS on the "new" scoot Bov - she looks like a DANDY!!!
  11. Good advice so far IMHO.. Also maybe a stuck starter solenoid or a relay switch leading to the solenoid.. I would find the starter solenoid, unplug the small input 12v wire that energizes the solenoid and see if that stops it. If it doesnt the solenoid is closed causing the starter to get voltage as soon as you connect the battery.. Had an old shovel head do that once,, bike rolled over, started up and the starter stayed engaged.. What a mess.. Make sure you have the kill switch off when playing with it so that doesnt happen.. Can always just test the circuits and devices with an ohm meter to see where the fault is but thats not as fun
  12. Engineering 101: Mount an electric winch on a tree on the other side of the road,, hook the cable on the back of the bike and drag her up da hill ,, simple pimple and easy as pie.. Non-engineering old school biker method with friends who dont know about your snow making skills: invite your biker buddies over for a hot dog and have em push you.. Non-engineering old school biker method with friends who do know about your snow making skills: learn to turn the bike around and use Mr. Gravity to back the it in.. :lightbulb:good thing VR has a Puc in its club to do all the thinking or nothing would get thunk about Glad you finally got a chance to get out and test that knew foot Jeff!!! Sounds like your headed for a GREAT summer of riding:dancefool::dancefool:!!!!!!!!!
  13. Forget that dust covered snow maker and those empty bottles of gook you were mixing to make the summer snow with Fool!! It's ride time brother!!
  14. Never did figure out how to change thread title names either DanL so not much help,,,,, but ya gotta give me a little break cause I'm a Puc, not a Google..
  15. Gotta be a starter solenoid somewhere in the mix,, you can test for voltage at the solenoid with an ohm meter set on DC 12 volt range. Ground one lead to the bike frame or battery neg, probe the input for the solenoid and see if ya got 12 volts when you hit the start button. Have heard of problems on the starter relay on the 2nd gens, no idea if this is a different "relay" then the actual start solenoid but I am thinking it probably is - my guess is there is a relay somewhere that is controlled by all the interlocks in the system - you may have to find and test that in the same way..

  17. I stuck this over in the Craigslist section too cause its a pic from Craigs.. Gotta say,, I have never seen a pic of the actual unit Motortrike installs on their Trike conversion.. Wow there's a lot going on here - pretty cool setup really.. I helped install a straight ax under a Sporty a while ago and it was no where near as impressive as this is.. Amazing from a old school gearhead perspective,,, definitely material!! http://images.craigslist.org/01313_9xGWwFMDn2c_600x450.jpg
  18. Only problem is Drews, a lot of those scoots are from area's outside of Michigan and havent been converted to run on Hot Dogs yet... Not that their owners havent ALL been invited, over and over and over again I might add!!!
  19. EWE,,, thats nasty Brum!! I just betcha somebody refilled with cooling system with tap water during the life of the scoot and forgot about it.. Fortunately that didnt happen up here in @FlyingFool country or that puppy would froze solid and taken out a bunch of expensive parts and pieces.. Good on ya for helping out your buddy!!
  20. Next time could you do me a favor Fool,,, could you please add a little Seafoam to the mix, that last batch was kinda stale and tasted funny coming out of the siphon hose.. I am thinking all the stuff that you think you saw was actually just part of a dream you had during your last surgery.. That you never really did have 5 bars.. This is a common malidy for us bikers when we have to get cut on - its our minds way of saying all is gonna be fine.. Bottom line, dont worry about Jeff, just make sure you fill up the tank and mix up a small amount of Seafoam the next time you store the scoot under lock and key where no one can possibly get at it and all will return to normal:hurts: On a side note,, I hope Orlin, Hoss, BJ66, CMCoffey, Condor, Zzzz, VideoArizona, Eck, Barrycuda, YammerDan, Freebird and Raggy dont read this and figure out whats going on here - if they do I may actually have to pay for gas on our next trip around the country.. :mo money:You varmints didnt really think I would willing pay 12 dollars just to come on here and chit chat did you? Those names and addresses have sure come in handy
  21. Would love to have been there and would love to see a picture of your Mom on her scooter Marca!! She sure sounds like quite a precious lady!!

  24.:rotfl:I gotta tell ya Eckster :rotf: I am right there with your wife ... THAT is a classic my friend!! Now let me tell ya one that happened last night.. Tip comes home late from visiting with her mom, asked if I was hungry - of course I was hungry, I am always hungry.. I made the suggestion of heading to Taco Bell for a Taco.. We head out, its dark, we turned the corner by the Pizza Joint and there in the road lays a bag with something in it.. One of my bad habits (and its a bad one) is picking up junk on the side of the road (oughta see the cool hats, shirts, gloves and Harley parts I bring home from Sturgis every year) so I instantly noticed the white bag with something in it.. Turned around, went back and found a fresh baked Pizza that had probably fallen off the top of someones car!! Picked it up, looked at Tippy and proudly announced "Dinner is served" ..
  25. Sorry about the rain Riv but I gotta say - WOW ZZZZZ WOW WOW WOW DID THAT COME OUT BEAUTIFUL - NICE JOB THERE MY FRIEND!!!!!!:dancefool::dancefool::clap2: HERE'S HOPING YOU AND YOUR FATHER HAVE MANY YEARS OF SHARING THE PRECIOUSNESS OF TIME TOGETHER!! WAYYYY COOL!!!!!
