FZ-09 experience? Trade offered, looking for opinions.
cowpuc replied to CaseyJ955's topic in Watering Hole
Personally Case,, I think you did awesome!! Around here the litre bike is a hard sell at best.. The smaller cc sport bikes (600 class) are very popular and easy to buy/sell/trade but the litre bikes have a fairly small following,, almost one off cultish similar to the choppers or other custom builds.. That FZ is just the opposite IMHO. When the FZ first came out and the local Yam Shop had them displayed at Muskegons big bike show there were throngs of youngen's gathered around gawking at em.. I have since seen numerous FZ's buzzing around here. Personally I find owning/operating my own litre bike similar to having the best of the best world class roller coaster right in my backyard for my bucklist/retirement enjoyment.. The adrenaline rush of breaking 100 mph in 1st gear or feeling the front end lift off the ground when shifting into 6th at 176 mph is totally addictive BUT definitely not something you want to do over and over again hour after hour day after day.. Quite frankly,, I think the litre bike scares the crap out of most people (as it should, a person who dont respect his litre bike is a doomed biker IMHO) and, because of its needed lay down design (you ever stick your hand out into the air foil on your litre bike at 170 mph? I did,, almost ripped my arm off) many cannot stand the riding position as they typically do not ride at speeds above 150 where the litre bike design lifts the body and makes you float.. Yea,, IMHO,, you my friend did AWESOME on your deal!! ENJOY and dont forget to report your findings and get us some pics ya lop eared bike swappin varmint!! -
Yes gen2 basket fits but....idle whine
cowpuc replied to LaclaMoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Speaking of comparisons,, here is a quick vid of @videoarizona's 2nd Gen showing off its whine for Tip and I.. I don't think David did anything to change his 2nd Gen from OEM clutch basket,, perhaps he will pop in and let us know one way or the other.. -
My money is on your response to the feel of the bike when your finished will be "WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, had I of known that just dumping those OEM Ink Pen springs that Mom Yam stuck in there and replacing them with some Progressives would turn my scoot into a canyon carving, off road loving, feeling like it's on rails handling motorcycle like this I would have done this the day I brought my bike home"..

Skidder are you stuck on a 2nd Gen trike or open to others? I only ask cause I am really close friends with the owner of the Honda shop that used to be in my home town and know for a fact he had a full time Wing trike salesman working his showroom.. Thinking that a triked Wing may be easier to come by due to more being converted? Also,, maybe keep on eye on Cycle Trader as they do pop up on there occasionally.. Here is an ad I just noticed on there https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2007-Yamaha-VENTURE-ROYALE-5013508229 .. Best of the best in your search either way!! Puc

Interesting,, this is Sonny Rattan/Sunman writing as a member in our club back in 2010: I am Sonny Rattan. I have been a member of VR.org for quite a few years now. I ride a 2006 custom RSTD. I made the Yamaha Venture and RSTD facebook group quite a while ago. The goal of the facebook page, is two fold, first to give all Venture and RSTD riders and fans, a page and presence on facebook, and secondly to introduce them to this site. Believe it or not, there are many Venture and RSTD riders who don't know about this site. That is evident from the amount of people who find the facebook group, and show up here, or send me messages. I am glad to introduce them to the site, that has been such a great help to me. A separate facebook group for Venturerider.org, would only be found by people who alread knew about this site, my facebook group is about people who like the bikes first. It is a fan page of the bikes. I was asked to change the name of the group somehow, it is called "Yamaha Royal Star Venture and Tour Deluxe Fans, and Owners" Which I would assume would encompass all of you on facebook. I think the name is appropriate for what it is. Don is the admin of the group, I asked him about it before I did it. Not sure why anyone wants to change it. and, surprisingly,, if I am understanding all this correctly,, this is the same Sonny Rattan/Sunman writing now on "his" facebook page with the exact same name as above of ""Yamaha Royal Star Venture and Tour Deluxe Fans, and Owners"" written today, 8-14-20.. and he wrote: "I now come to something that may bother some of you. I do not want links and referrals to another Venture Rider internet site. Specifically the paid site. I was a long time member there for many years and even paid when Don needed help. But seriously, in this day and age, who pays to be on a bulletin board? And at 4K plus members at $12 a head, well you do the math. All the files should be available here in our files section it has so many. I am not comfortable sending our members to a site where they will be required to pay to be a part of it. Remember, these files were not created by the site owner they were gathered FREE from the internet and posted there. Some members from that site threatened me when I would not allow them to advertise here. Michael Brady posted there that he and some guys should come to Canada and knock on my door if I won't let him and Dave Watson advertise here. So yeah, don't post links to that site. Period. Everything you need is here, and if you are a member there, no problem. Your choice. If you tell people they should sign up there...you get the picture. I want to also let you know that if you believe you understand the rules and you are comfortable helping to apply them to our page, let me know I could use a moderator or 2. Even just to have a break!" In this rant of his I noticed he mentions Brake Pad.. Many of our club members will remember Mike/Brake Pad and know Mike has not been active in the club for quite some time as he suffered a bad accident on his Wing and no longer rides.. I spoke to Mike not long ago, he is doing much better and is still his lovable self. In Brake Pads defense here I find it hard to believe that Sonny/Sunmans reference to Mike could possibly be current? I highly doubt it.. If I am correct in my summation that it is not current but simply something that happened a long time ago I feel sorry for Sonny and his inability to let Saigon's be bygones. Life is to short for extreme drama and the type of division that he is promoting.. IMHO, especially during this time of upheaval in the world, one would hope and pray that as a motorcycling community we could debate pro's and con's of motorcycle brands/models, share information about them and enjoy our sport together without this type of nonsense.. It has always been vr club code that no political/religion discussions would be tolerated,, for obvious reasons.. Its a sad state of affairs when we are now asked to no longer even talk about motorcycles within the ranks of the larger biking community .. I also noticed that Sonny mentions our archived tech info and that the info was gathered by our club freely from the internet.. I take issue with that.. Much of the info in our tech area is derived by contribution from club members past/present and future and is an accumulation of hundreds of hours of experience from the contributors thereof.. "The internet" as it were, is simply a vehicle for connecting us lop eared varmints together and, until Artificial Intelligence is completed,, the internet is still garbage in/garbage out,, in itself it has no way of diagnosing bike issues or coming and rescuing one of us if we break down or pray for us if/when we are in need.. It is up to each one of us to decipher what is truth and what is not, truth matters.. I also take issue with the idea that our club takes a stand that if you dont pay,, you cant play.. First of all,, as far as I know Freebird still has entrance into our club set up with a 100% FREE trial period.. All a person has to do to access our tech info and also inquire/participate in discussions concerning MOTORCYCLES is take advantage of this free trial.. 2ndly, I know for fact that if one so chooses not to contribute a buck a month in club dues after that free access has expired that he/she is in no way hounded to do so.. And then finally,, and I REALLY need to say this cause Don is friend of mine who deserves to have the truth told about him,, I am one of numerous club members who,, after mentioning to him that at the time I simply could not afford the dollar a month club fee, he completely and totally marked me paid and continued to do so until my finances improved.. That is the truth and,, even though it seems that in this day and age many people are doing all they can to run and hide from it,, IMHO,, TRUTH MATTERS..

IMHO,, another thing to easily check is whether or not you have AC sneaking thru to the battery leads.. You should be seeing DC there and an AC presence indicates a diode/rectifier issue.. Also,, if it were mine, due to the issues I have had with stators getting hot and slowly loosing resistance between the windings in the coils,, I would also check the regulators responsiveness both at cold start up and in a full on,, hot,, up to operating temps environment.. IMHO,, a "lazy" or slow to respond regulator in warmed up condition often indicates its new stator time regardless of how the stator ohm tests read.. You should see a consistant,, instant snap up in voltage when the R's cross 2 grandish.. Laziness there is a Murphy, 1000 miles from no where,, party waiting to happen..

Yes gen2 basket fits but....idle whine
cowpuc replied to LaclaMoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
IMHO,, yes Yamaha is well known for good engineering practices but still,, they are far from perfect.. One of the things that I have noticed throughout my career in bike sales/service is/was that Mom Yam still makes mistakes and when those mistakes are made she is very slow,, if not absolutely apposed to making corrections when they get costly manufacturing wise.. Case in point? The Virago 750 and its starter system that made it sound like there were rocks being rattled around under the stator cover every time a starter button was pushed.. This design flaw caused those cool little charmers to be a hard sell, at the least, for any self respecting buy/sell situation.. Got to the point around here in West Michigan that those bikes were buyable for a couple hundred bucks.. I discovered by trial and error that grinding/honing some relief in the engagement gears on the Virago starter gears cured a lot of the issue,, as did making sure you had a really good battery to assist in disengagment of the gears (hard in = fully loaded return spring), and actually did ok on resale of most of them BUT,, by the time that was taking place the "issue" was well known.. Concerning the clutch whine on our V-4's.. Many many V-4 Yam riders,, from V-Max to Venture and all inbetween, actually have grown to love and respect the whine. I know I have.. Not only does it give instant notification that a fellow V-4 rider and his machine are approaching,, it also speaks loudly to the gearhead of SOLID and TOUGH straight cut gears and,, in my case,, they always sounded like a turbo spooling up or down .. I have often thought about taking the time to cut/fit some relief in the mating gear faces/ends in an attempt to quiet one down just to see if it could be done.. I highly suspect that it could.. It would take some time and in the end,, a good finish honing with perfection like a custom gun worker carefully honing the sear on his favorite shooters trigger system to make it smooth as butter but really,, I would do this longggg before I crossed a mighty V-4 Yam off my list.. They, the V-4 are farrrr to much fun for that!! -
Hope you have a great ride/time down there if ya make it Newkirk,,, PRAYERS UP for wife's health and daughter's move brother!!

You made us laugh, you made us cry, we miss you Bongo and this is why. Your smiling face and gentle way, is with us to this very day. But that is not an end to itself, your wrenching prowess remains on our shelf. You helped so many throughout the years, another reason you still get cheers. Your battle fought when you were ill, teaching us to fight with skill. Has also taught so many here, to rest in God and fight the fear. You my friend are like no other, a true life hero, a true life brother! Miss you Bongo! Happy Birthday! Your friend - Puc

HELP. Idle poping and coughing
cowpuc replied to Rilcoat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
All definitely worthy advice IMHO with not much constructive advice to add except for this one thing.. If it were mine I would warm it up really really good,, to full operating temp and then do a stator/rectifier check on it just for kicks. Simple test with vlt/ohm meter.. Hook er up,, touch the throttle and make sure your seeing it snap right to 14 voltsish when the regulator hits at around 2 grand.. No sluggishness,, it should jump right to attention.. Another old school way of checking it,, that I have used since I was a kid is just watch the headlight in a dark garage and make sure it is responding instantly and consistently when the stator sends the high voltage produced to the reg as it hits the correct R's.. One of my theories having to do with stator life and performance is that once those stator windings have become burnt from getting hot they lose their ability to resist current leakage across the windings which causes reduced signal being sent to the rectifier which results in irratic and/or slow response to charge the system including battery.. This can and has in my case resulted in one strange running scoot at idle and right off idle until the stator catches up - case worsens as the bike warms up.. IMHO, this has also been a prelude to a completely failed stator.. Note - battery ignition bikes are most susceptable to this.. Another thing that I would also do/check is corrosion at the plug wire ends.. Little extra resistance there can cause the same issues.. I customarilly will snip off a small amount at wires end going into the cap at any sign of corrostion there to prevent such malidies and am also very liberal in keeping good/new NGK caps on my plugs.. Probably wayyy out there in left field in suggesting such nonsense but I would just do it... -
I LOVE your screen name "" @horsecop ""!! Thank you for your service!! IMHO,, that Glock is a fine,, real fine weapon brother!! Takes a licken and keeps on tickin,,,,,,,, off the bad guys

Just like Tweeks,,, that iconic RSV of yours big sister, OEM spec on the plugs is NGK DPR8EA-9 but that is not the Iridium NGK my brother.. The perfect Iridium crossover for that Mom Yam OEM standard NGK plug is NGK DPR8EIX-9 and that is iridium.. My brother,, some of us - myself included would also be interested in your take on running iridiums in your upcoming review too if your in the mood for taking requests.. It is standard procedure for me to toss in a new set of inexpensive plugs at 10 or 15K miles and drop a sync into the mix in so doing.. I know the more expensive iridiums are suppose to stretch that out to 50 to 100k miles.. One of the issues I always held with that had to do with plugs getting hard to remove and I like to keep an eye on plug colors when I swap em out too.. I would LOVE to hear your take of such in a review and see what your thoughts are of such.. Also cannot wait to read another of your most excellent reviews on the tool kit!! Lord knows anyone who would "venture" a cross country adVenture without a healthy tool bag filled with tricks is a better man than I.. IMHO, while it has become customary for manufacturers to no longer even include a tool kit and the same for modern riders to ride off on a 3 month cross country tour with nothing more that a warranty card/credit card in their possession,, I am still one of those old school bone heads who are still convinced that my own skills in wrenching and the tools I carry are actually the better choice to depend on for getting home as I really hate to stand around in the desert sun while I wait for a few hours for some kids with a tow truck to come and get me.. I therefore, and whole heartedly anticipate your input on both tool kit and plugs my brother!! By the way,,, my local AutoZone shows those NGK DPR8EIX-9 iridiums available at 8.99 each Puc P.S. - YOU are more than welcome,, always!! -
So Tip (my wife), Trooper (our Hyundia Mini Micro Motorhome) and I are out CTFW's when I notice a carrier like you have mounted on the HF trailer Monst sitting in someones front yard with a little "FREE" sign hangin on it.. As the 3 of us are whippin a roadie, Tip asks whats up.. I said "you didnt see that micro trailer top sitting back there for free?".. She said ya but what ya gonna do with it,, our touring on the bike days are long gone and besides,, you wouldnt be caught dead draggin a trailer behind Tweeks (our 83) even if we were still able to tour on Tweeks.. I said "just hang with me. You'll love this".. The carrier was perfect,, came with key and all mounting hardware,, fit perfect inside Troopers internal campground.. Got home, unloaded it,, went in,, ate dinner,, took a nap, got up about 1 a.m. and asked Tip if she wanted to go with me down to the dunes,, says sure.. She as I loaded up the three buckets and shovel to shovel the sand in.. When we got back she :bighug:as I dumped the sand into our 3 year old grandsons new sandbox.. Next day, when the daughter pulled in with "THE KID" he literally ran to the sand when he noticed it!!

'86 VR rear master cylinder prime?

EXCELLENT CHIPS!!!! GOOD ON YA!!! :thumbsup:O Concerning the pics.. There are numerous lop eared VR mc club member varmints who can neither read nor write so one of our hidden club codes are that pics/videos are a must have... I may been wrong but I think our leader/Bossman actually reduced the post requirements for pic posting recently to 10 post so it may not be a bad idea to give it a shot at this time.. Speaking of club pics,, in the past some have had issues posting pics and the vast majority of the time, IMHO, this is a result of trying to upload to big of pictures.. I made a short video of solutions I have found to assist in this that has actually helped a couple varmints (I do customarily get more death threats over my vids than compliments but this particular video I actually did recieve a couple thank you's for so I know it might be safe) - here is a copy/paste of that vid should you get to a point where pic posting becomes an issue.. -
Probably cause she's more of a doer than a watcher,,,, let her steer the bike once in a while you ride ***** !!! Take video's and pics for the club when you do though!!

I spent the big bucks and put Franklin Binaries in both my ar15 and ar10 @MonsterBiker,, absolutely love them.. 3 Position selectors, drum feed for both and very very close to full auto if you "feel" the trigger,, about as close as one can get without the hassle of getting the feds involved with a class 3 (which I would absolutely do if I were wealthy and could afford a belt fed M60 ).. Thing is with the AR12,, IMHO,,, the action is not fast enough to warrant the cost of a binary,, I can almost out run the action in just semi auto... 2 for 1 would definitely allow me to do so in the AR12.. The BCG is so much more massive in the 12,, kind of like one of those 20mm cannons on a Warthog being put into action I see Franklin has now come out with a Binary for the Ruger 10/22! I am currently thinkin I may need to pick up a 10/22 of some form to fill a void.. I do have a 22lr CMMG conversion kit for my AR15 so my long gun need for binary fun is met that way.. Maybe a Ruger Charger with binary would be the best as that would be a pistol with binary... Thinking I better get er done By the way,, anyone else thinking of Franklin Binary,, beware the tiny little spring that follows the front trigger assembly mount pin.. Just look inside the dowel hole in the lower receiver that the pin presses thru in the lower receiver when nocking pin in on assembly and help the spring up over the beveled edge of the pin when assembling lest you use up one of the two springs Franklin gives you for this purpose..

ROCK N ROLL MONST :dancefool::clap2::thumbsup2:!!! That Vep is a BEAUTY!! Looks like a 20,, maybe 25 round mag hanging from its mag well?? NICE,, VERY VERY NICE!!! So the guy standing next to me out on the state land shooting his 22 Marlin smiles and says,, ""thats quite a machine your busting clays with there,,, I always thought an AR12 like that would make a good home defense gun.. What do you think?"".. My reply,, "well,, I actually calculated out its fire power one time figuring x9 - 7.62 Nato (actually larger @ 330 thousandths) bullets with each yank on the trigger traveling 1300 fps out of a short barrel with the I.C. choke screwed in and the ability to empty her 25 round drum as fast as I can pull the trigger pretty much puts me and my shooter into the realm of Arnie and that Mini Gun he and the boys battled the Predator with ,,, besides that,, I gotta hunch that even just the sight of some beat up, worn out old man (or his wife) pointing such a machine in the direction of any thief looking for jewelry would probably have the same effect of sending them running without even firing a shot"
