My Dad use to tell me "Son - your only real problem in life has to do with the type of people you run with..." (see pic one).. My usual response was similar to the person in pic 2... That said,,, NO - your not a bad person and YES - you probably have a problem but I highly suspect it has very little to do with commitment to motorcycles :big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon:

WOWZY - AWESOME PIC AND AWESOME MILEAGE EARL!!! LOVE your comment about the valves!!! Looking at the pic I gotta ask,, Tip (my wife) is 5' 8" and I am an even 6'.. She really enjoys the height difference between us on the 1st Gen's and we always wondered about the passenger seat appearing to sit higher on the 2nd than on the 1st Gen's.. Can I be so nosey as to ask how you and the lady on the back of your bike compare to our heights? Reason I ask is you two look like you fit that scoot very well!! PS - I still think your Diamond Cut bling is the snazziest thing going brother! BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Phew,,,,,, I thought that this: May have been related to this: and was preparing myself for .... Speaking about getting into trouble,,, remind to tell you about the time I got suspended from Ebay for a year for trying to sell Antique BB Guns on there.. My kids went crazy over that one and started calling me "Gun Runner"

Have been trying to help my neighbor sell his 88 Wing/trailer combo and, in the process of doing so found myself baby sitting it for a few days so I could keep it parked out front with For Sale sign on it... Tip and I also managed to sneak it into town and give it quick bath WITH the trailer in tow.. Couple of things I noticed... Never ever did tow a trailer with a scoot before,, was amazed at well it pulled - never even realized it was back there.. Also never did have a scoot with "reverse",,, wow was that fun!! Put er in neutral, pull the lever and hit the start button - talk about fancy!! I have maintained my CDL "A" truckers license all these years, have backed up everything from 50 footers to little bike trailers and gotta say - backing up that Wing with the trailer on the back was a RIOT!! Pretty cool option you Wing riders - pretty snazzy!!! :lightbulb:If I had one of my own I would toss some gearing at it and challenge ya'll to some Reverse Races at MD this year!!!!

Don, was just over in the Ebay sales area where you left a comment about a Tour Pac: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?119300-Yamaha-royal-star-venture-trunk-w-8-quot-subwoofer Tried to respond with a quick question but found out for some reason I couldnt.. Kept getting this message: cowpuc, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. Wondered if this is normal? My question pertained to the mounting of a 2nd Gen Tour Pac.. Any idea if there is a "quick release" docking system available for the 2nd Gens? I know they are popular in the HD world - INSTANT BAGGER - and wondered if such a critter exists for the 2nd Gen? THANKS FOR PUTTING UP WITH ME

Every time I go back and look at the bosses new scoot:178: I keep coming back to the thought of "20k miles - that beautiful scoot is just getting started!!".. Being the scramble brained type that I am and having no experience with the 2nd Gens that thought is usually followed by the question of "I wonder what it's capable of in accumulated mile's".. Knowing how shy a lot of your are, this may have to become a "Poll" question but thought I would try this first.. Wondering who has the most miles on their 2nd Gen? Anyone out there with 100k or over? 200k or over? 300K OR OVER?? Any one wanna share about attaining high mileage (not MPG - talking strickly about odometer readings here) and what kind of "Tweekin" ya had to do to get there? Dont be shy now,,, brag em if got em brothers and sisters!!!!

taste test works best!

Congrats Bossman!!! Sounds like you got that puppy almost EXACTLY the way you want it :clap2::dancefool: and WOWZY is she a BEAUTY!!!!!!! ,,, guess it's almost time to now get the site back to normal again with a little friendly :stickpoke:and maybe even a bit of .... I was just outside tinkering with Tweeks and telling her alllllll about your purdy new scoot.. As I pointed to your signature on her windshield and told her that it was you who gave up the Harley to get back on one of her kind she snickered, said "ohh yea,, I remember that varmint - he seemed like a really nice guy"! As I was walking away from her she mumbled something about having a hard time telling the real difference between a Harley and a 2nd Gen when viewing them from her rear views...

Forks bottoming out
cowpuc replied to kapebretoner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
IMHO,,, playing with the anti-dives, replacing fork seals and bushings, setting up the forks so they will maintain air pressure and putting in new fork oil are all wonderful things to do BUT - if your springs are sacked (and it sounds like they may very well be) alllll that effort is for nought.. 1st thing I would do is go out to the bike, release any remaining air from the front end, have someone lift it up off its side stand and take a look at how much travel you have left in the forks. You should be seeing 3 inches or so from the bottom leg top surface to the wear line on the fork tube if the springs are good. I have purchased a number of these 1st Gens with very low mileage on them and have ALWAYS found the stock springs to be sacked and sacked from sitting - not from being "used".. It's a fairly common thought that sacked springs can be over come by adding air pressure, adjusting anti dives and maybe going to a heavier weight fork oil - IMHO,, not so much.. High air pressure is hard on seals, anti dives are in place for setting the bike up for excellent braking (especially for folks who use the front brakes in cornering), and damping thru oil weight is more of control device for how quickly your springs rebound or compress.. If your springs are sacked Kape (and I gotta hunch they probably are) what I would do is pick a set of Progressives up (Ebay CHEAP), pull the oil from the forks, pull the stock springs and those tubes that are on top of them, drop in the progressives and proper amount of Bel Ray 12.5 weight (thinking Bob is right - 360ml sounds about right), add 3/4 inch of preload spacer on top of the springs (some folks like 1/2 but I prefer 3/4).. I know from doing this your air leak wont matter any more cause you will never need air in the forks again, set up like this will be a LOT easier on your seals because the front end will now be supported by springs like its suppose to be instead of putting undo stress on the hydraulic system within the forks and you will be amazed at how well it handles.. I would also suggest going back and match set your anti dives.. -
Good point Frodo!! And if a person started eating those corn dogs on a regular basis he would probably be forming a bad hobbit

Number 2 carb leak
cowpuc replied to mkflow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hmmm,,,, yep,, probably means ya got a float needle letting fuel by and over filling the bowl.. Kind of strange though cause there is an overflow line that empties under the bike in front of the swing arm that should be dripping long before the bowl over fills to the point that fuel will come out of the main jet/metering rod orvice.... Probably sounds crazy but it seems like the probability of this happening has gone up since all the alcohol has been added to fuel - got a hunch that alcohol has an ill effect on float needles or something.. -
Well,, I know one of my favorite all time great lop eared VR varmints of all time, @rbig1, is from the great corn state of Iowa.. He rides a 2nd Gen and loves to pick on,, I mean loves to contribute to the :stickpoke:around here.. I also know that Orlin and Sharon live not to far away from all that corn.. One of their family members told me that as soon as he (the family member named "Moe") gets his drivers license, he is gonna steal one of Or's bikes and head for Iowa cause he loves corn. And then there's @Flyinfool and his Wisconsin White Washer - Fool lives not far from Iowa either - surprised you didnt know that as he is responsible for all that nasty white stuff you folks get.. I am not to far away from Iowa myself but tend to stay in Michigan since I discovered Michigans abundance of Hot Dog crops.. Michigan Hot Dog fields are just starting to bloom and it looks like a bumper crop this year:guitarist 2:.. Hot Dogs are a little better tasting than field corn and easier to digest than field corn...

,, THANKS YAMAGRL!!!

Now I gotta do some googling and check out the specs on that beautiful machine.. I LOVE the looks of cylinder degree placement on it Shmily,, it appears to carry its weight lower with the jugs laid forward like that - different but I LOVE it!! Seems like that would be amazing in the twisties!! It also appears to be lower slung in the saddle giving it that "sitting in the bike instead of sitting on it" feel? I am sure it is a totally different feel that your Venture but, IMHO,, after few thousand miles of touring time under your belt on that gorgeous machine I got a gut feeling that the only time your not going to be is when your not on your new bike!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Copy/paste is the only way I know of... Highlight the text you wanna put here (if using a mouse you put the cursor at the end of the text - hold down on the left button and roll the mouse to highlight - if using a touch pad on a laptop you place the cursor, hold down on left pad button and move your finger across the pad to highlight), after highlighting release the left button and move the cursor anywhere inside of the highlighted area, right click and a window will appear with "copy" in it, click on "copy".. Now come to VR, go to the spot you want to post the e-mail, place your cursor where you want the e-mail to appear, right click and that box will appear again - click on "paste" this time and bingo - done deal!! Another way would be to forward the email to me and I could post it for you - be happy to do so..

50 mpg? After repairing the case damage, pulling the carbs (talk about a job) and going thru them, syncing her out and some new plugs - Tip and I took this one out for a test ride (couple days of chasing the wind).. Riding back roads (non-ickspressway stuff), probably averaging 60 mph but riding 2 up the whole time we averaged 62 MPG - I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!! About the same MPG as our 250cc Honda Helix gets!! Got yakking with the guy I got it from and says "oh yea,, I NEVER got below 50 mpg with it" - UNREAL!! You got a DANDY scoot there brother!! Better get that little one to give it a name so it feels like part of the family ("goo goo" would make an AWESOME bike name)

Be thouest careful for which thou wisheth,, for thou never knowest what tomorrow mayest bringeth forth Do I detect a trail leading from the backside of that modern day restroom that may lead to a perfect spot to catch a few zzzz's too?? Definitely a classy set up compared to some of the places our little Menards tent has found itself planted at!!

Speaking about scoots with coffee can sized pistons,,, whats the recent scuttlebutt on the Strats - Roadliners - Raider with the 1900cc motor? Heard or know anything about em? Be seeing a fair number of em out there with low mileage for pretty good prices... Wonder how they are heat wise and durability.. -
