WOW ZZZZZZ WOW WOW WOW JEFF - THAT COULD OF TURNED OUT REALLY REALLY BAD MY FRIEND!!! Thank you for keeping it all together to get er stopped - YOU DA MAN BROTHER!!:clap2: Regardless of how it happened - having a front end lock up like that can result in an instant crash. I had an old Honda 90 with the steer lock on the neck.. Got to wondering one day while riding whether I was quick enough to lock/unlock the steering while in motion:missingtooth:.. To my recollect, the face plant happened as soon as the lock went click:255:... Many years later I also lost a really good friend when his coffee mug fell from his cupholder - have used styro cups since that day... You done good brother and, for sure,, the good Lord was watching over your shoulder on that one!!!

Yep,, bolt right in.. The MK2's (91) had the diaphram spring clutch in em so the clutch cover is a little deeper but not to the point of interfering with anything.. TCI and carbs are different so you will want those from the donor bike. If I were going to do what you are talking about I would double check the frame on the 83 for proper gusseting - a really good buddy of mine had his fail ( @Venturous_Randy ) and others have too.. As far as modding goes - this is the only real essential modding necessary.. If you wanted to do some other modding you could do some modding to the front of the 83 - drop on a set of MK2 forks then add on some R1 calipers so the finished 83 would stop as well as it runs.. As far as being worth it,,,,, most of us 1st Gen riders around here sure seem to think so!! Mom Yam is the one who stopped building em,,, not us!!! DNA - just did a quick search - take a read here,,, think you will find this VERY interesting!!! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?66786-Rebuilding-and-Modding-my-83&highlight=engine+swap :lightbulb:the advanced Yamaha Venture tech info floating around this place is nothing short of STAGGERING!!

Couple of things,,, a quick check on Ebay for a motor shows the prices pretty wide spread BUT - most of those motors are motor only.. My guess is that a "Buy It Now" for 600 bucks plus shipping with the "make an offer" option engaged will end up with multiple offers in the 3 to 4 hundred range... Getting over that $500 mark may be a toughy but ya never know till ya try!! I totally agree with Bongo on his comment but keep in mind,, it seems like that is a two way street these days.. Bidders not fulfilling their "bid contract" seems to be a common factor too these days.. Being under no time constraints, I would figure out what I needed for it and stick it on our site and maybe in Craigs first GnV... Sure seems like anyone looking to replace their motor would be drawn to yours in particular seeing that its not even broke in yet

Just make sure those spots are well marked,,,, I sure dont want to wake up in the middle of the night by the sound of shotgun being racked and some Kanuckian Flint Westwood character groaning "get off my driveway" with nothing but the nylon wall of my Menards Tent between us,,,,,, eh
-
Yessirrreeee Bongo,,,, yessirrrreee it sure did.... Gotta add though,,,,,, be it ever soooooo hi-jackable there's nooooo place like home... Sooo,, doing a double hi-jack and reversing polarity on that epic condenser adventure so we get a positive reading on our EMF outages,,,,,,,,, I wonder if Sea Puppy was able to piggy back another TCI without ripping his bike all to smitherings:178:.. Hope so:fingers-crossed-emo!! Aint nothing worse than sitting in a classroom trying to decipher what's wrong with your scoot when you could be out smelling the roses while chasing the front wheel!

These Graduate Level courses in Electronic Studies can be kind of intense... Probably because they assume that a person like myself actually passed the Pre-Requisite classes - personally I am still back in Electronics 101...

What Battery Brand Came New in my 2007 Yamaha RSTD ?
cowpuc replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Watering Hole
Tweeks has got the original battery out of a friends 08 Sportster in her,,, I will let you guys know how that works out ... Maybe carry your old battery tie wrapped to the back of your bike just in case you run across someone like me sitting on the side of the road Fuzzy .. Sounds to me like your on the right the track swapping it out - no sense taking any chances if you dont relish the excitement of being broke down in obscure places:happy34: Sooo,,,,, anyone trying Lithium:icon_smile_question -
You can run Sticky but you can't hide Wishing you folks all the best in your move and in your new home!!

Hi GnV! Just talking off the cuff here,,, you talking about the complete motor, carbs, TCI all in one package or you talking just the motor? Sorry to hear about the crash brother but glad your OK!!
-
Well,,,,, ,,, I have I ridden some of that area KIC and gotta tell ya brother - those Canyon edges associated with that area are the last places you would have wanted to try and ride out a flat tire on one of these bikes... :biker:GORGEOUS pictures though... The group that you were going to go with sure seem familiar to me - my riding buddies would do the same thing for me had I of been in your shoes... Made sure that I got pictures of the ride I missed and all that

You should be fine switching over Bushwacker.. Just make sure you dont over fill and you swap out the filter in the process so you get as little mixing of synthetics as possible,, IMHO. One of the pretty neat things that I like about using old school dino oil like YammerDan mentioned is, again - IMHO, you can find 20/50 dino about anywhere and mixing em up doesnt really seem to hurt anything.. I usually come home from a month of travel on Tweeks with a mix of 20/50 from Family Dollar, Walmart, Auto Zone or even that gas station at the entrance of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (you dont want to buy your oil there - I paid 9 dollars for a quart of dino oil - and the old girl always seemed to appreciate what ever I stuck in her.. By the way,, I am not sure what all the hub bub is about you bringing up the oil subject ,,, after all,, its still winter here:sign67:

Hey Drag,,,, your pic upload problem has probably got something to do with picture size,,, its not uncommon to need to resize to a smaller pic (I have found 1000x750 works good).. Dont give up,, you sure got a line of folks waiting to see more!!!

GOOD ON YA RIV!!! I clicked the "thanks" icon to send ya a message of thankfulness for taking such good care of your Dad brother!! I clicked the "like" icon cause I also like it when fellow gear heads come to the same conclusion about stuff that I do... First time I swapped out a set of OEM boingers for progressives I had EXACTLY the same thought as you put in print = "what in the wild wild world of torturing motorcycles is going on here,, somebody put ink pen springs in my forks!!"":big-grin-emoticon:... Just never made no sense to me why Mom Yam would produce an amazing scoot like the Venture that could easily point the front wheel toward the sky in 2nd gear only to land on those OEM springs and the fish oil they used back in the day for dampening:big-grin-emoticon:!! Your dad is in for a REALLY special treat with his bump eating, super cornering trike my friend!!!! By the way,,, its said that a picture is worth a thousand words,,,, that of those springs pretty much prove that saying to be correct brother!!
