  3. Grab your Blue Swede Shoes (dont even think of stepping on mine), kick the tires and light the fires - ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING and is on his way to entertain us at our 1st Official 2016 Puc's Meet - Greet and Eat Meat!! That's right - the King heard how delicious our 1/4 Pound Hot Dogs smothered in home made relish are and he is ON HIS WAY!! Date: Tuesday, May 31st 2016 Time: 1pm Rally point address: 1021 East Parkdale Ave, Manistee Mi 49660 RSVP: None - just show up! Miles from your home: No Idea Requirements for attendance: Pack up the babies, grab the ol ladies and everyone go,,, cause every one loves,,, a good Elvis show... Auditorium Seating Capacity - no limit,, all my Meet Greet and Eat Meats are held outside where we can keep on eye on our bikes and it doesn't matter if we accidently spill relish, ketchup or mustard while we are diggin on some Elvis vibes. PLEASE NOTE: Weather here has been pretty dicey the last couple days.. If it's rainy, snowy, haily, tornadoie, hurricainy or cycloney come Tuesday I will cancel this one (one thing I really cant stand is soggy Hot Dog buns) and reschedule with Elvis - I explained this to him and he said - "thank you, thank you Puc,, thank you very much - dont wanna get my Blue Swedes wet if I don't have to". I will update this thread Monday night with any cancellation notification if that becomes necessary!!
  4. Yep,, should work fine!!!
  5. Hey Goat,, another alternative is sealing the tank.. I had to do a number of tanks throughout the years and can tell you from experience this stuff: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Red-Kote-Quart-Coat-Gas-Oil-Diesel-Fuel-Tank-Sealer-Liner-Patch-Hit-Miss-Engine-/131533413846?hash=item1ea0009dd6:m:m_t7zDtTPyVjhKTiiBBgucg&vxp=mtr Is the best of the best!! Far better than Kream Koat (the white stuff) - this stuff will actually make a tank within your old tank.. Very very little prep work necessary - if you read on the label you will even see where you can apply it right over rust - they arent joking,, it works that good!! I found it years ago when I was in a radiator shop and they were using it commercially... Good stuff!!
  6. Take a center punch and punch the end of the broken bolt before you start to drill it so you are drilling into the center of the broken bolt. A right hand drill bit and a small easy out should work to as long as the original bolt hole does not go all the way thru the casting - if it does the potential for the broken off bolt to go thru and end up inside the case is real.. Just gotta watch it very carefully.. If there is enough bolt shank left sticking out you may just be able to take a pair of needle nose and turn it out...
  7. Sounds to me like a hanging up float or float needle valve issue Addy.. Cant help but wonder if the hose you taped up may have been an over flow line? You could try tapping on the bowl of the carb giving problems and see if this frees up a sticky float. If not, you possibly picked up a small piece of crud between the needle and seat..might try opening the drain on that same carb (sounds like its the #1 carb), draining it into a small jar, leave the drain open and activate the fuel pump (never worked on a 2nd Gen but on a 1st Gen you just turn on the key and turn the kill switch on and off to cycle the fuel pump) to try and flush it out.
  8. Noticed that too XV and had the same thoughts!! Also, once I realized the area's affected by those storms I jumped over on @The_Tooch 's ride blog just to make sure those guys were ok too!! That was some NASTY weather!!
  9. Glad you guys avoided all those Nadoes out there Dave,, been thinking of the four of you and keeping up with your blog! Looks like your having a blast cutting a trail thru some pretty good rain!! Kind of strange to think about but it wont be long now and you guys will actually have to stop and BUY water - those FANTASTIC dry desert breezes will no longer automatically refill your water bottles for you ! Glad all is going well, THANKS for keeping us updated about your AWESOME Epic Journey!!!
  10. WOWZY,, that is amazing Patti!! Glad to hear you are both safe and sound and, with a huge THANK YOU to the folks who bought your home, have a place to hang your hat while your rig is being repaired.. There are a LOT of great people out there and it certainly sounds like you and Don were blessed with selling your home to some of the finest!! Just amazing!! Thoughts and Prayers Up for a quick fix on your 5th Wheel so the two of you can get back at it!! Puc
  11. Way to go Bum - YOU DA MAN BROTHER and certainly no bum!!! :clap2::clap2: GREAT post Dogman - there is something about seeing gratefulness in action that makes me inside.. Thanks!!
  12. Hey Speed, IMHO you may find 20w oil to create a fairly harsh dampening.. Its pretty amazing how much dampening change you might realize in just a small amount of oil weight change. May favorite setup is 3/4 inch preload on the Progressives and 12.5 weight Bel Ray on the forks running no air. I just talked to @ragtop69gs last Friday and I think he mentioned he had gone to 15w on his 2nd Gen. I am almost certain that he said it felt a little on the hard side but was a blast in the twisties - lets see if Raggy chimes in and reality checks me.. I know on my MX Bikes I played with suspention a fair amount, adjusting shim stacks and all that nonsense and 15w was about max heavy for me even on those.. +1 on the no need to rebuild again,, drain the oil, pull the springs, put in the new oil and springs - set the preload to your liking, cap that puppy off and hit the road brother!! ,,, never heard of running a little air to decrease foaming,,,,,,, sounds like a really good idea - may try that Bongo!

  14. Sorry @Drews, working on new bike,, getting it jussst right ,, got her almost broke in!! Thinking next Tuesday for season opener - Elvis says he is READY to let the Jail House Rock!! Will know more VERY soon!!!
  15. By "feels like its pulling" do you mean it feels like it wants to start if you press the start button or it feels like it wants to run right when your riding it and run the rpms up? Has it been running good recently up to this point - or is it fresh out of storage? Did you recently wash it or get caught in the rain with it? Noticed any small puddles of fuel under it or have you been smelling gas (sticky float).. If it will start = start it up, let it idle best it will for 30 seconds, wet your finger tip with spit and touch each header (like checking a hot iron). See if 1 cylinder is cold and others are hot. If you find a cold one pull and replace that plug and try again. If it works replace all plugs. Could also be high ohms on the plug caps - thinking 8 ohms is good - maybe wrong going by memory on an 83 here.. Also possible you lost a diaphram or have a sticking slide.. Quick check things with info supplied so far would be spit check pipes, drain the carbs in a glass jar and check for water, .
  16. Ooops,, thats not where your stuck,,, sorry bout that Ready,,,, indeed the covers can be finicky - just remember that the cover has alignment dowels that keep it in perfect alignment - as mentioned, you will definitely need to smack it with a heavy leather (best), plastic (not the best) or even a piece of hardwood being smacked by a hammer (worst case scenario that always seems to be where I end up) at an angle outwardly to break it loose.. Sure wish I was closer cause I would scoot over and give you a hand brother - I happen to LOVE home made Tamales ...
  17. Oh yea,, almost slipped past my radar unit: ,,, can I see your VR operators license and your proof of insurance? Any idea why I pulled you over? Well,, I know you think it had to due with you forgotting to post pics in your thread here BUT - I actually pulled you over to thank you for NOT posting pics this time.. A PERFECT example of a man following the Men's Code Of Ethics (which supercedes all unwritten forum rules) which requires us to protect others of the same species from immediate family members who may see those pics and........:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
  18. The Dragon Slayer and his Dragonite off spring done slayed another one!! What do you and your son charge for such services... Keep in mind that the contract for this project up in Michigan comes with free housing and an all you can eat daily Hot Dog smorgasboard Put me on your list of folks who TOTALLY appreciate your highly sought after totally worthy accomplishment my main man!!
  19. WOWZY Brother - that sounds like quite an experience!! I thank the Lord that it all came out like it did and you were neither injured (most important) and that your scoot is going to be ok - AMEN!! By the sounds of the weather conditions and the roadway the hail storm caught you on - I can only say that God was watching your every move on that one - could have been a WHOLE lot worse my brother!!

  22. Oh yea,, it is NOT abnormal for the cooling fan to come on without the motor running.. It is suppose to do that - run until the coolant temp at the sensor reaches the proper temp - then it will shut off automatically..
  23. In addition to the excellent advice you have gotten so far Pysco,,, here are some thoughts from someone who has never owned or even ridden a 2nd Gen - all coming from experiences riding 1st Gens. Also consider these thoughts are coming from a source known to be old school in thought and not exactly easy to follow at times so take it with a couple grains of salt.. 1st thing,,, was the ride you folks were experiencing abnormal with cross winds? Strange as it may sound, I have experienced cross winds/tail winds strong enough that they really messed up the air flow thru the radiator on my 1 Gens and have had the cooling fan needing to be running even at close to highway speeds - sounds corny I know but been there.. I also notice your running 10w40 oil? My 1st Gens have all really liked 20/50 for summer temps.. One of the things I always noticed was a lessening of oil venting from natural 4 stroke engine crankcase and tranny venting.. Having no idea whether or not that black tube is a vent tube (might wanna check a manual or wait and see if someone who knows what they are talking about chimes in here) I am guessing that somehow it is and, under certain conditions it would be easy to understand how oil could condensate enough on the ID of that hose to cause a small drip - especially from an engine running warmer than usual for whatever reason.. It might not be a bad idea to check your owners manual and see if it suggest upping the weight of oil for warmer temps - if nothing else you will be taking some highly skilled Yamaha engineer advice instead advice from someone who has never owned a scoot like yours .. I have also noticed that using heavier weight oil (20/50) actually makes my bikes run cooler and makes for smoother shifting and a quieter motor (their are actually people who can tell when its time for an oil change just by the "feel" of their tranny).. Another something I would be curious about,, is the grill on your radiator stock and is there anything you have added to the front of your bike that may be robbing airflow thru the Rad? I have seen some really awesome "grill work" bling thru the years and always wondered if,, under certain conditions (possibly like strong crosswinds) if the added material that looked real nice might not necessarily be a good thing.. Also,, 1st Gens have a temp gauge - do the 2nd Gens? If they do, was the fan able to maintain a "normal" reading? Because your riding a new bike,, this is probably far reaching but something I would check just for kicks.. I would check tire pressures and I would also check for brake drag (sticky caliper).. If you can get the scoot off the ground, spin the wheels and feel the resistance, take a rubber mallet and smack the calipers enough to loosen any drag, spin em again and notice the difference. Start with the front brake - spin the wheel and stop it with the brake - release the brake and feel amount of drag. Now smack the front brake caliper to free it back up. Now spin the front wheel again and stop it with the rear brake pedal (thinking 2nd Gens have linked brakes too - someone correct me if I am wrong PLEASE), compare feel between calipers to see if you have one sticking.. Now do the rear brake caliper.. Low air pressures, brake drag and oil to thin all create resistance and resistance can = warmer running motor... Any of all this make sense?
  24. FANTASTIC!! That is exactly what we were looking for!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAVEN THEA ATKINS AND WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!!!:thumbsup:
